Danielle is a **fabulous** colorist. I trust her with my hair above all others. She will always take the time to explain the color options and the process, and her #1 priority is always to protect the quality of the hair. She is extremely conscientious with her work, and it always turns out beautiful. On a personal level, she is delightful to chat with. I've been going to her for over a decade driving all the way from PDX to go to her, and I always feel at-home at the salon! In fact, everyone in the salon is really friendly and helpful. Yep, yet another sucker who purchased a LivingSocial deal for a facial and left wondering why this service is even offered. It wasn't AWFUL (I didn't break out from the products, and my face wasn't bruised in the process) but it was a total waste of money, even with the deal. The esthetician didn't seem to know about skin--more about how to massage a conglomeration of Dermalogica products on it. She shined a skin light on my face for a full minute, said absolutely NOTHING, and then said, "Alright, we're going to treat you with this exfoliating mask..." The esthetician made no reference to my specific skin type, pores, or target areas. What's the point of using a skin light if you're going to treat me with the standard procedure you use on everyone? When she left the room at one point, I had enough time to grow bored and catch up on my texting. After the treatment was over, the esthetician had the audacity to tell me she would meet me at her desk up front. Um, for what? Since I had already given her my coupon, it seemed like she was hinting for me to tip her. Here's a tip: If you want an amazing facial--a real one--go to BRIA Bodycare. I went here after purchasing a living social deal. while the facial itself wasn't bad, it was also not worth more than $20.00. There were two times the esthetician said, "I'll be back in ten minutes" DURING the facial! So really I got 40 out of the 60 minutes I paid for, I might explain that she applied lotions and exfoliants that needed to sit on my face for a while. HOWEVER, during a good facial they would give you a neck rub or a hand massage. Not to mention the room is not sound proof at all which completely takes the relaxation out of the whole experience. I heard many stories of drunken new years shenanigans instead of soft, relaxing music. I would never go back. read more

Emma is the only esthetician there that does lash extensions and she is amazing! It was my first time getting eyelash extensions and it was a great experience! My eyelashes still look fabulous after 3 weeks. She uses lashes that look very natural. I was comfortable the entire time and I never had any stinging or runny eyes. She is the sweetest girl, I don't think anyone could dislike her. My lashes look so full and wonderful! read more

I found Anita through a co-worker referral and she has done nothing but great things for me and my mess of hair! My hair is super fine and pretty dried out from years of blow drying and straightening. Anita uses a special technique to get rid of my split ends and always spends extra time on the shampoo because she knows it's my favorite. Very unpleasant experience. They were doing some construction just outside the treatment room, and there were loud bangs and drilling. When the drilling stopped, staff members were talking loudly about upcoming plans for the weekend. I could hear it all as I was getting the facial. Ugh. I see Michelle for my color - followed her from Just Hair. Now, while we ARE friends in real life, full disclosure, she is also the best colorist I've ever had. I am very picky in my hair color, and it actually HAS to fall within certain guidelines for my work. She knows what will colors will look best with my skin tone, accommodates my whim of the season, all while trying to keep my hair's health in mind. Anita is a hair goddess. I found her through YELP reviews and am so glad I did. She coached me through my hair indecision and did a fabulous job. I have never gotten so many compliments on a single hair cut. Not to mention that I was STILL in love with it over a month later - which is challenging if you have a lot of layers. Anita cut them all perfectly and as the cut grew out it looked even better. As I don't use product in my hair and prefer to let my hair just air dry it means that I've suffered at the hands of less skilled stylists. And to top all of this awesomeness off, Anita is super easy to chat with in a completely relaxed and authentic way. She is one in a million. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED with my experience. Purchased a facial through Living Social and hoped to find a gem of a place I would return to again and again. On the website, the salon looked fabulous -- in person, it's fine but my first impression was, "wow, they have a great web designer," rather than "wow, what a great salon." On to the facial.... Sigh. It was uninspired, flat, and boring. At one point the facialist sat behind me for about 10 minutes and did nothing. In silence. It was uncomfortable and frankly, made no sense to me. How about a hand or neck massage? Instead, it was just awkward. I am a glutton for facials and love the experience of having one. Instead, I found myself wanting the experience to end, quickly. It's my opinion that this is an excellent salon. I have been seeing Emily (one of the owners) for over a decade. After a string of coloring disasters at other salons my hair is always beautiful when I leave Modern Betty. Not only are my highlights/cut/style perfect but everyone I see leaving the salon looks fantastic. Those old negative reviews are unfortunate and not at all reflective of the service I have received here. I'm a tough customer and have never been unhappy with the result. I went there and one of the ladies there messed up my hair completely! The foils fell out of my hair, my hair turned out horrible. I was in tears wanting to just leaving. My hair looked orange! And when I wanted her to dye it darker again she said she didn't like "dark hair on me" so she wouldn't dye it back but instead did a "light brown" and it washed out in three days now my hair is orange AGAIN!I am complaining to the owner and demanding my money back. read more
