    Smoked salmon tartine
    Teresa B.

How beautiful is this smoked salmon tartine? So delicious and fresh but also a sight for the eyes! The dill cream cheese and fresh salad toppings take it over the top from the usual smoked salmon bagel or toast. The whole grain bread is thick and chewy. My husband had the ranch chicken sandwich. He said it was one of the best sandwiches he has ever had. We love you Model Bakery!

This review is just for the english muffins and breakfast sandwich because they're so good! I don't like english muffins, but I found out how they cook theirs and it turns out that they fry it in ghee, so no wonder they're so delicious. The sauce on the breakfast sandwich really elevates a basic egg and sausage sandwich, along with the buttery english muffin. I wish they wrapped the sandwiches in paper so it was easier to hold, because it is buttery on the outside. The interior is decorated in their signature green and has lots of seating indoors and outdoors. I'm glad that this is finally in the Bay Area now and I don't have to make a special trip to Napa to get my english muffin fix!

What the caviar?! Yes, we went for the delicious caviar and have no regrets. It literally melts in your mouth! There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The service was quick and super kind. My daughter ordered a breakfast sandwich. She absolutely loves their English Muffins. We usually go to the on in Napa. However, this place in Walnut Creek has a total different fancier vibe. I mean come on! Caviar?! Absolutely coming back!

Came here for lunch with my husband today in Walnut Creek. I have been to the Model Bakery in St. Helena before and notice this one is much bigger. We got in line and order our food and drinks from cashier. She gave us a buzzer and we found our own table and set down. We ordered a mocha, argula strawberry salad (half size), tomatoe soup, english muffin and tuna salad sandwich. The food was good and everything is self served. There is also outdoor seating outside.

Last year a friend of mine gave me a 6-pack. I didn't know much about the hype, not a big English muffin fan, and that they're supposedly on Oprah's list. Ok! Wow! These are airy and buttery. And if you toast them at home, and spread more butter on them, you've basically died and gone to heaven. I returned a few months ago to buy more, but they were sold out. I went yesterday to take a peek around 1pm and they had a few bags left! Score!! Toasted one at home with PB and, damn, what a treat!! So good. I also got: Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie: It didn't have a lot of walnut and it was too delicate to eat. It could easily crumble on you so don't eat it in your new car. :) But it was pretty good but I've had better cookies. Banana Chocolate Bread Pudding: This was confusing because I guess I was looking for something either in a cup or a rectangular slice. I had to ask the person at the counter where this was because on the shelf, they looked more like muffins. So, guess what. They ate like muffins. They're not too sweet and they were a bit drier than I would expect a bread pudding to be. I think I was expecting it to be eggier? More moist? Chocolatey? Nonetheless it was enjoyable. Beautiful bakery with a small dining area. The breakfast/lunch menu looked good. I would like to return and try their tartines. They look and sound amazing. Service was okay. A smile goes a long way.

Loved this cafe and bakery while first time visiting walnut creek. We had a latte and cappuccino with warm cookies and portobello eggs english muffin and everything tasted absolutely yummy. The inside felt like walking into a bakery in NYC but I loved sitting in the balcony it's such a great ambiance. The servers were so friendly and welcoming.

I always have to come to Model Bakery anytime I am in Walnut Creek. I LOVE their English muffins and usually buy a pack to bring home. I've also had their breakfast croissantwich and breakfast burrito multiple times. Their pastries are good as well and recently I also tried their coconut pie (not sure if it's a temporary item), it was delicious!! I normally am not a fan of coconut as a lot of places taste very artificial but this pie was the complete opposite. Delicious coconut filling and coconut cream on top, not overly sweet too, I would definitely get it again. Staff are always friendly, I recommend signing up for rewards with your phone number/toast app if you come frequently.

Went here for Mother's Day brunch and even with the busy morning crowd, the experience was wonderful. Ordered an iced vanilla latte with a walnut Mexican cookie, along with the veggie eggs Benedict, avocado tartine, and caprese tartine ,everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The ambience had the perfect relaxed brunch vibe, and the service was quick, friendly, and attentive despite how busy it was. You can tell the team works hard to keep things running smoothly while still making guests feel welcomed. Sadly the cornmeal cookie was sold out by the time we got there, which probably says a lot about how good it is Definitely coming back to try it next time. Always love finding local spots that truly deserve the shoutout

My husband raved about the sandwich and said it was bombbbbb . For me I'm a scone lover and it was a 5/5 sooo freaking good I came back the second day lol . I'm sad there wasn't any sourdough bread left for me to try but I'll def be back !! Service was quick and everyone was so nice

Model Bakery opened in late 2024 in downtown Walnut Creek. They took over the spot previously occupied by La Fogata. I first heard of them several years ago, when it was reported that Oprah Winfrey would have their English muffins flown in to her whenever she had a craving. My question when I heard this tidbit was, can an English muffin be that good? Well, I got the answer on 08/20/2025, when my friends and I stopped by here after our dinner nearby. When we walked in, I noticed the interior had gone through quite a transformation from their predecessor. We each got some English muffins and desserts. The staffers who helped us were friendly and helpful. I'm not a Oprah fan, but she was right about these English muffins. They were really, really good! Unlike the ordinary ones, they were light and airy on the inside, and the exterior was deliciously crispy. They were more expensive than the ordinary ones, but well worth it in my opinion. Honestly, they were the best English muffins I have ever had. Get them if you have a chance!

A pretty good first experience here. Breakfast sandwiches were tasty and good quality, though for about 17-19 bucks or so.. it's certainly a bit pricey for what you get. At 930am on a weekday with a near empty store, the food took about 20 minutes to make. So not quick but I suppose that suggests the food was fresh and not just waiting around. Our loaf of batard bread also had a big gaping hole right through the middle which made making sandwiches a bit annoying but hopefully that was just a fluke. Check your sliced loafs next time

The bakery's English muffins were the highlight of why we came; fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I could imagine toasted with butter...The pastries were good, but they didn't quite reach the same level as the bread offerings. A small improvement would be to plate the pastries rather than serving them in the paper bags for those eating onsite. It would enhance the overall experience and presentation. It seems very much self-serve, you pick up your coffee order at the counter and you return any dishes to the conditioners by the counter, as well. Overall, it's a good spot, especially if you're a fan of quality English muffins.

    Original Breakfast Sandwich

Oprah was right... this bakery is worth the hype! My friend had been raving about Model Bakery in Walnut Creek, telling me it was newer to the area and one of Oprah's favorite spots. Naturally, that set the bar pretty high. After two visits in the same day, I can confidently say it lived up to the buzz. We stopped in early that morning for a quick coffee run and ordered a latte, an Americano, and the original breakfast sandwich. The service was friendly right from the start. They give you a buzzer while you wait for your food, and although ours didn't work, one of the employees noticed and personally brought our order over. Small moment, but great attentiveness. First things first: the latte. Smooth, balanced, and no harsh aftertaste. It's one of those coffees you actually want to sip slowly. But the real star of the morning was the Original Breakfast Sandwich. The bread absolutely melts in your mouth (which makes sense since this is a bakery). It was generously filled with egg, cheese, and bacon and honestly might be one of my new favorite breakfast sandwiches in the area. Later that same day we came back for lunch because we couldn't stop thinking about the place. This time we ordered the Smoked Trout Roe plate with mini English muffins, the Avocado Tartine, and the Vegan Chocolate Caramel Bar. The Smoked Trout Roe plate was such a fun dish. It came with house-made mini English muffins, crème fraîche, hard-boiled eggs, scallions, and the roe. The balance of flavors was fantastic. Salty roe, creamy crème fraîche, and those warm English muffins that practically melted in your mouth. It felt a little indulgent but completely worth it. The Avocado Tartine must be one of their most popular dishes because several tables around us had ordered it too. It's packed with flavor and surprisingly hearty. Definitely come hungry or plan to share. And finally, dessert: the Vegan Chocolate Caramel Bar. This was to die for. Rich, gooey, almost like a caramel cookie dough texture. It's definitely large enough to split between two or even three people, but it's the kind of treat you'll be thinking about later. Between the bakery-quality bread, thoughtful dishes, and attentive service, this spot quickly became a new favorite. Great atmosphere, great food, and clearly a place people love coming back to!

Do they have wifi and is it a good environment to get some work done?

They have plenty of spots to sit and work. Overall its probably not a bad spot to work, but I could imagine it gets a little loud when they are busy.

Has anybody been there for dinner yet? Do they have a separate dinner menu? The Walnut Creek location?

    Not to my knowledge.

Receiving a texted coupon for 15% off my order, I was excited to use it since I needed a birthday cake. Though there was an online code, I could not use the discount online. I called the shop several times, but there was no answer, and I even left a voice message but never heard a call back. Finally I noticed there was number on the website to text so I did, and got a response. The response was that it was too late to order the cake, and the coupon couldn't be used online ordering system because the online ordering system was different from what was used in the store. BUT I was told I can still call my order in and pay in advance over the phone to get the 15% discount if I still wanted cupcakes, and if the store didn't answer, the person sending the text said he/she would contact the store. I appreciated that kind gesture. The next morning, I settled for cupcakes and decided to call the order in and pick up the cupcakes in the afternoon since I had no time that morning to go to the store. But lo and behold, I called and again no one answered. I texted the same number from the day before and a response came back that they would contact the store to give me a call. I checked in by calling the store two more times and still no answer. And no one called back that afternoon either. Sadly, I had to give up, but was glad to give business to a way more responsive bakery with delicious cakes.

The hygiene alone should be enough to make anyone turn around and walk out. The employee working the front repeatedly coughed into his hands, rubbed his nose, sneezed, then immediately went back to handling customers' utensils, napkins, and food-related items without washing or sanitizing his hands. It happened over and over again. It was honestly disgusting to watch. Basic food safety should never be optional. Then came the bill. Three items. One tiny crepe, one madeleine, and one quiche. Nearly $50. I actually thought there had been a mistake. The crepe was embarrassingly small, and the chicken inside was some of the worst I've had. It was dry, stringy, chewy, and tasted incredibly cheap. There was absolutely nothing fresh or high quality about it. The portions were tiny, the quality was poor, and the prices were completely disconnected from reality. My husband was born and raised in France, and we've spent plenty of time eating at cafés and bakeries there. This isn't even remotely comparable. It's an overpriced imitation that relies on the idea of being French instead of delivering food that's actually worth eating. If you're going to charge premium prices, then deliver premium quality, proper food safety, and an experience that justifies it. This place failed on every one of those fronts. We won't be back, and I genuinely can't understand why this place has the reputation it does.

The location is easy to get to, with lots of parking behind in a lot, and it's very clean, with lots of chairs and tables; yet all were filled this Saturday evening, which is a good sign. There are too many pastries, treats, and drinks to even cover, and we spent a few minutes trying to find our choices, which you mainly pick from cabinets using a self-serve tray and tongs. For drinks and cake (whole or sliced), you order those at the counter. We decided on some pastries, some cake slices, and a drink. And S'mores was the predominant theme today. We ordered a raspberry fruit bite, 2 chocolate supreme croissants, 2 S'mores Belgian waffles, a sugar mochi donut, a coffee donut croissant, 2 slices of S'mores chocolate marshmallow cake, and a slice of rainbow cake. We also got the cream cheese puff and the crème brûlée bombolone ... quite the name! And, of course, a S'mores frappe! The server helping us at the register was polite and efficient, but there was only one register open and a long line. As such, other folks were helping gather the goodies from the cake case, and as we were taking these to go, we did not realize until we were home that the rainbow cake was not a rainbow cake, but a THIRD slice of S'mores cake. Ugh. That one was chosen by the 8-year-old, who was understandably not happy, and the additional insult of paying extra (above the cost of the S'mores) for a cake we didn't get made ME unhappy too! Paid $8.29, got a $6.99 cake slice. The pastries are generally good, with some very good and some more of a "meh." Among the best were the raspberry fruit bite and the coffee donut croissant. That coffee one was a surprise, as it had a soft liquid filling we didn't realize when buying, and the taste was very coffee, which I loved. Will get that again for sure. The S'mores chocolate supreme croissant was also popular. The crème brûlée bombolone was different, with a light pastry and a filling different from what I usually find in crème puffs, and it was tasty. The waffles were not a light and airy as we would have liked, but the flavor was good. The mochi donut was a bit dry as well, not up to true Japanese bakery standards, and the cream cheese puff was all puff and short on the cream cheese (see photos). And the S'more cake was good for flavor, very rich and S'morey, but the presentation really is lacking. Not that I normally compare one chain to another, but for example, when we get Crumbl, the product is very close to the advertising. Not so with the S'more cake, and I am not even sure all the layers were there and in the proper order or proportion; check out the photos and see what I mean. However, the flavor was spot on, and that is the ultimate goal, although the "eyes eat first," as we Yelpers know! And the highlight was not a pastry or cake, but the S'more frappe. It was layered beautifully, fresh-tasting, and very S'morey (yes, a new word I now love!). We even got a second, as we had to eat this there so it could be shared by the group, and it was calling us! Definitely hope it is available next visit, and Starbucks could take a lesson in quality versus price point. Some of the pastries here are really not worth the cost for the product (would skip the cream cheese puff, for example, and the mochi donut), but everything else was very good. Other than an error in fulfilling the order correctly and a couple a poor pastries (quality), it was a good first visit, and we all would come back when near a location.

I needed my coffee fix and some breakfast, found this location along the way to my Destination…read more Even for early morning, they had a good selection of pastries out to choose from. Grabbed a few pastries-- all were flaky and delicious. Probably even better if it were warm. I was in a time crunch so didn't ask for it. I ordered their caramel macchiato--really sweet for my taste buds.
