What a concept! Combining mochi and donut seems like a brilliant idea after the fact. I had been here once before a long time ago and could have sworn there wasn't that many on the menu, just the plain original one, one with cheese and then a spicy one. I ordered the Hot Cheetos and my girlfriend had the Original. We both enjoyed them, and we liked how they give you a little cup of spicy mayo, as well as some ketchup and mustard. So many different way to try it and give it flavor :) . I will say the only thing I didn't like was the way the Hot Cheetos one was breaded. It was more like soft and the cheeto dust would fall off every time I took a bite. The original was a lot more crunchy and seemed to have the right amount of breading on it. It was still pretty good though, overall, I would come back here to try some of the other stuff on the menu because I love how much variety they offer and how quick the service is too. I had a bad experience with Korean hot dogs in the land of its origin, South Korea, so I was eager to see if any places in SoCal would be able to easily best my subpar Korean hot dog from Korea. Happy to report that Chungchun has much better Korean hot dogs than the street food version I had in Myeongdong. BF and I ordered the #5 Crispy Ramen ($3.95) and #6 Potato Mozzarella ($4.50). You get a choice of dipping sauces to go with it (we picked sweet chili) and you're asked whether you want sugar on it (always say yes!). The potato mozzarella is literally half a stick of cheese and half a stick of the hot dog. You'll hit the cheese first before getting the hot dog. The outside reminds me of crispy fat french fries. The crispy ramen is crispy bits of ramen noodles sprinkled over the battered hot dog. I have to say both taste excellent with the sweet chili sauce and I think the potato mozzarella barely pushes crispy ramen out as my favorite (mainly because of the cheese!). When coming to Chungchun, you may not immediately find the place. Their sign is covered by another sign for Mochinut, as they also sell Mochinut mochi donuts inside. We wanted to just get two, but they only do orders of 6 ($15) or 12 ($30), so we got one of each flavor. Milk tea and the Nutella were the favorites of the bunch. The original is great too if you don't want something too sweet. Plenty of parking in this plaza, though if you want to consume your hot dog and donut post-haste, there's not a lot of outdoor seating for you. We found an open bench nearby, but there was no shade in the scorching sun and the bench was more to hold our box versus seating. lol. I'm not a fan of corn dogs because of the breading... but my bf wanted to come here so I figured I'd give corn dogs another try and if I didn't like it, I knew he would eat it lol We got 3 different dogs, the 1/2 mozzie, the volcano, and the cheddar cheese. The first half is cheese so like you're eating a mozzarella stick then when you get to the second half, it has sausage but no cheese. The volcano uses a spicy sausage. It definitely wasn't spicy but it did have more flavor than the other sausages. Lastly the cheddar cheese, the sausage was coated in nacho cheese what it tasted like. I think I like the mozzarella one more than the spicy one. It's definitely a different twist, but a nice combo of sweet and salt. Update: they now have Mochinut here! How cool is that?! (This review isn't about the hotdogs served here but for the mochi donuts) I was browsing on Instagram last night, when I happened to find a photo of a melona flavored mochi donut by this store I had never heard of before and when I clicked on the page which had stated that it was a pop-up shop inside Chungchun Hotdog. Drove about 20 minutes all the way to Cerritos today with my friend to finally get the chance to try the mochi donuts. Unfortunately they do not sell donuts individually so me and my friend had shared half a dozen. (We didn't eat the entire thing, we just ate the Melona one and saved the rest for later) We had ordered 2 of each donut that was available (Melona, Strawberry, and Black Sesame). Half a dozen costs $15 and a dozen costs $30. The donuts are a bit on the pricier side but definitely worth trying at least once. The exterior is crispy and crunchy while the inside is very moist and chewy. Personally these were a bit too sweet for me but still very good. I think these will go great with an iced americano to help balance out the flavors. Definitely come try! read more

I've tried the mozzarella hotdog sugar-coated and went all-out on the different sauces they had. The mozzarella cheese hotdog is filled with sausage and mozz cheese. I sauced up this hotdog with sweet chili sauce, honey mustard, ketchup, cheddar cheese. Also tried the squid ink batter hotdog sugar-coated, which has sausage and mozz cheese. This one is one of my favorites! Tried the cheddar cheese hotdog sugar-coated, all mozzarella cheese sugar-coated (there's is no sausage in this one)--one of my other favorites--and their spicy rice cake that has melted mozz cheese on top. Note that the hotdogs sugar-coated is the way to go! For their spicy rice cake, you have the options of: just the rice cakes alone, rice cake + original hotdog, or rice cake + all mozz hotdog. I opted for the combination of rice cake + all mozz hotdog. In the event you get the rice cake combo togo'ed, they put it in a cute container that separates the rice cake from the hotdog so that the batter of the hotdog stays nice and crispy. The line here is not intimidating (unlike something other locations), the service is fairly quick and friendly, but parking may be difficult - as it is in the Landmark Square Plaza (same plaza as Lucille's and right next to Sup Noodle Bar). Pretty amusing corn dogs that are made from rice flour which is a lighter experience and not as heavy for food coma-inducing as regular corn dogs. Definitely recommend their sweet potato rice dog as it was sweet and savory. Also a good amount of texture. However, would jot recommend their drinks or at least the Guava passion tea since it tasted like those artificially flavored drinks with the sugar free after taste. Good place for Korean rice hotdogs. I've mainly had the Korean rice hotdogs from Myungrang and wanted to give Chungchun a try. I came by on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The hotdogs came out pretty quickly after ordering and it was packaged in a nice box. There were quite a number of people there ordering mochi donuts as well. I got the ramen crusted hot dog, cheddar supreme, hot Cheetos mozzarella, and half and half mozzarella/hot dog. For all of them it ended up being around $20. They were solid hotdogs, but they weren't as good as Myungrang in my opinion. I would come back if I was nearby and really craving it, but would choose Myungrang over Chungchun. read more

I finally got to try the new ktown craze! Haha. I've been hearing about this new cheese dog trend for a while and now that they opened up a location near my home I was able to give it a go. I'm a little sad that this place took over my favorite macaron store, but it's good food and drinks so I won't begrudge them their success (not much anyways). Also, apparently its typical to get these corndogs rolled in sugar. I didn't realize that when the employee asked so I turned it down, thinking the idea of coating my corndog in sugar was too weird- but now I want to try it! The day I came the store was having a promotion of a free milk tea (assam or thai tea) with the purchase of two corndogs. Their Assam milk tea was pretty good. I liked it, and I'm pretty picky when it comes to milk tea and bubble tea drinks. Interior is small with two standing tables for customers to quickly eat their corndogs at.
