Extremely Disappointing Experience -- Twice! I don't usually write negative reviews, but after having two terrible experiences at Dave's Hot Chicken on South Street in Cerritos, I feel compelled to share my experience. Unfortunately, both visits were equally disappointing, and I will not be returning. First, the restaurant appeared dirty and disorganized, with loud music that made the atmosphere unpleasant. The customer service was extremely poor. The young employees appeared inadequately trained and seemed to lack even the most basic understanding of customer service, communication, and order accuracy. On both visits, my order was handled incorrectly. I specifically ordered my food for dine-in, yet it was packaged to go. On my most recent visit just two days ago, I had to repeat my order more than ten times before the employee finally seemed to understand what I was asking for. This is unacceptable and incredibly frustrating for a paying customer. To make matters worse, on both occasions, my chicken was served cold. When you visit a restaurant, you expect your order to be taken correctly and your food to be served fresh and hot. Unfortunately, neither expectation was met. I also saw employees repeatedly going in and out through a door while appearing confused and disorganized. The entire operation seemed chaotic, and I honestly questioned whether there was a manager, supervisor, or shift leader overseeing the staff. Proper training, supervision, professionalism, and accountability appeared to be seriously lacking. This is not simply a complaint about one bad meal. This is a pattern of poor service and repeated failures across two separate visits. I hope the management team reads this review and takes these concerns seriously. Employees need proper training, customers deserve to be listened to, orders must be prepared correctly, and food should be served at the appropriate temperature. A restaurant's reputation depends on more than its name or menu; it depends on the quality of its food, cleanliness, and the way it treats its customers. As for me, I have given this location two chances, and both were disappointing. They have lost my business and, unfortunately, my confidence in their ability to provide a satisfactory dining experience. I learned about Dave's when I tried their Lakewood location. It was great! Really surprised how much I enjoyed the sandwiches. Figured this location would be just as good so I was excited the first time I visited. Very disappointing visit. Their chicken was almost 20% smaller than the chicken I got at Lakewood. So I said I won't visit this place anymore and stick to Lakewood. Come today, my daughter said she was hungry. Said she'd love some Chik fil a. In my head I'd rather have Dave's so I suggested it to her. So we ended up here again at the Cerritos/Artesia location. As we were pulling up to the drive thru we noticed an suv that was waiting at the window. I placed my order and as we got to the window, the same SUV we saw as we pulled up was still waiting. And waiting. My daughter commented how they had been waiting for a while and I thought maybe they placed a large order. So when they finally pulled off, I pulled up and paid, the cashier was kind and asked if we wanted sauce or ketchup but then it happened. We got stuck waiting for our simple #2 for over 10 minutes. At the drive thru. While the staff just glanced at us and kept serving the diners inside. We finally got our order but the guy who handed me the food didn't even apologize for the long wait. Horrible way to make an impression on my daughter Cerritos Dave's. I went to write up this review and I'm shocked to see it has a 4 star review. Maybe today was an off day, but usually that's how these reviews get written. One bad experience can lead to these reviews l. At least in my case, this is my 2nd visit to this location and once again, I LOVE the Lakewood store. On a positive note, my wife and daughter both liked the sandwiches. Finally had the chance to try Dave's during Dave's free slider day! Customer service was really good and fast! I am impressed, I got the extra spicy slider. It was so juicy and had the right amount of spice (enough to make your lips a bit tingly but not overly spicy) and the chicken was crispy on the edges! I wish there was a bit more sauce on the chicken but overall I would come back again and probably try the reaper, I would say buldak noodles is a lot more spicy than the extra spicy slider. It's been a minute since I had Dave's, and they recently launched a collab with the animated series X-Men '97. I had to get the special X-Men Meal, which came with a cool mini-figure of an X-Men character. This location offers dine-in, take-out, and drive-thru ordering. I've always liked the food here, and they've been consistent. The chicken slider I got with my meal was delicious, and just the right amount of heat for a medium level. I do like spicy food, so I may go hot next visit. The chicken tender was juicy and flavorful. The seasoned fries were freshly made, crispy, and hot, as well. For vegetarians, they offer a few items such as cauliflower sliders, mozzarella planks, and more. I also got a regular fountain drink, which wasn't part of the X-Men Meal. Along with fountain drinks and iced teas, there were also bottled drinks available for purchase behind the cashier. I dined in for lunch (before noon); it wasn't too busy, and I received my order fairly quickly. After I finished my meal, more customers started coming. There were no more seats for more guests to dine in. The dining area was clean, but only a few tables were available inside, and a few outside (without shade). The umbrellas weren't out the time I visited. When not packed, the atmosphere is chill, and the art on the walls and ceiling adds a trendy, casual vibe. I think a few more tables could have fit in the dining area, but overall a pleasant experience recently. As someone who rarely imbibes in sugary drinks, The Frozen Hi-C Flashin' Fruit Punch Slusher reminded me of mixing Kool-Aid packets at home w/ copious amounts of granulated sugar. The Slusher did have a Hawaiian Punch-reminiscent flavor, but a few sips were all I could manage. Top Loaded Fries- This was good. The highlights for me were the kale slaw & thick, crunchy pickles. An ample amount of fried chicken tenders & crinkle cut fries, the Top Loaded Fries provided a filling & satisfying lunch. Service was good. The wait was minimal for the fries. The interior dining area is a tad small, with more seating available outside. There is a Drive-Thru option, as well. Dave's Hot Chicken manages to compete with the other fried chicken chains in the area. While I would never order the Frozen Hi-C Flashin' Fruit Punch Slusher, again, the enticement of getting one for free brought me in, and the Top Loaded Fries satisfied the grease tooth (sweet tooth's less pretty cousin). Not this time around, I normally go inside and the art on the wall is cool but I tried going through the Drive-Thru and I kinda wished I didn't. Finished ordering at the Drive-Thru and arriving at the window there was only one car ahead, their parking lot was empty so I'm assuming little to no customers were inside, didn't expect to be waiting 15-20min before being able to pay and recieve my food. The staff is super friendly! And the service is quick too. I got lite mild Dave's #3 which is a tender, a slider, and fries. You can choose different spice levels for the tender and slider which I thought was really cool and perfect for trying out different spice levels. Everything was so good from the seasoning to the sauce and the fries. The fries are a bit on the softer side, it's not the crunchy, crispy kind. It's thick enough so that you can really feel like you're eating potato, but not too thick to the point that it's too much in one bite. The buns on the slider are very soft and a bit soggy, maybe from the sauce. I probably would prefer the buns to be a bit more structured, but overall, the whole slider tastes great! The vanilla shake was also really good! It's comparable or even better than in-n-out! I usually don't eat a lot of spicy foods, but I can tolerate some spiciness. The lite mild was very very mild in my opinion. It's barely spicy. I think I could have handled mild. The music is a bit loud, so it's a little hard to have a conversation. There's also plenty of outdoor seating with music as well. They have a small parking lot for you to park. I would recommend this place and come back for more! I've heard so much about Dave's Hot Chicken I had to finally try it out. It was a pretty cool ambiance inside, I wish I took more pictures, and the service wasn't too bad either. I like that everyone can pick their own spice level, that's nice for groups with different spice tolerances. However, it was a little pricey, especially for the cauliflower vegan option, which has a cheaper main ingredient and was smaller in size, so that was weird. If you haven't yet noticed, I am addicted to Dave's Hot Chicken! I try to hit it up every single chance I get. We got back from Disneyland a bit late, and not many places are open. I saw that this Dave's was open until Midnight, so I drove down. I went with my usual order of a #2, Medium (usually do hot, but I did not want my mouth burning tonight), with cheese fries. Paid the lady my money and took a seat. How was it? #2- Bomb! These sliders tonight were probably the biggest and best ones I have had from a Dave's, yet! Each slider had 2 full size chicken strips in it. Fat sandwiches! Medium spice is perfect if you want some zing, but not the burn of "hot". The soft and chewy bun, the slaw, the sauce, the pickles, and the perfectly fried chicken just meld together so well. Really enjoyed my meal tonight. I also finally hit Level 3 on on their rewards scale, so my next meal at Dave's is free. Woot, woot! Score! Service was quick and to the point. Would definitely come back here if I lived in the area.
