I want to be clear upfront that this is not the fault of the staff and that I should have done more research beforehand. The restaurant is described as "burgers, vegan, fast food," and based on the exceptional reviews and wording, I was under the impression there would be some regular or at least convincing burger options. That was not the case. My girlfriend wanted to try it, and I went in skeptical but open-minded. Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. The "burger" tasted nothing even remotely close to a real burger--not in flavor, texture, or overall experience. Everything came across as a cheap, overly processed, chemical knockoff of what it was trying to imitate. The cheese was oddly floppy with no real flavor, and the bacon substitute had a strong chemical smell and a very strange texture that made it hard to eat. I wasn't expecting perfection, but I was expecting something at least comparable to a burger. This wasn't even close. I fully understand this place is for people who enjoy vegan food, and I respect that--but calling these "amazing burgers" sets an expectation that simply wasn't met for me. I left genuinely wishing I had gone to In-N-Out across the street instead. If you already love vegan alternatives, maybe this is for you. cannot recommend this place enough! extremely satisfying food, and the head chef was very kind and provided free cookies! Their burger sauces and queso are phenomenal! The "meat" is very fulfilling, and I would wholeheartedly return when I come back to Austin. I recommend their fiesta burger, NY chopped cheese, garlic par' fries, and their version of "animal fries". Only critiques are that there is not that much seating available inside, but there is a table outside. This place is all vegan, which is nice of course I love vegan food since it's not always easy to find. What I loved most about this place was that everyone was super nice. When I came in, they were very welcoming and explained the menu. They gave me a free cookie. I'm not sure why they were just giving out cookies and they were damn good. The actual menu has so so so many options. I love that it means that I can come back again and again and have a different meal. I chose the California girl burger. It tasted really good. It was very light with avocado on it. I think next time I would like to try the barbecue because it seemed like that was more popular . This place doesn't have too much seating. I would say it's more of a takeout type of place. However, if you do want to just sit there and eat your food, there are some spots available. We went here after seeing a reviewer on FB listing the "Best Smash Burgers in Austin ". Best vegan burger I've ever had in my life! And I've had a lot of them. If I didn't know, I would've thought I was eating a beef burger. This place has got it down! Seeing such high reviews for such a deserving place is amazing. This used to be an old vegan chicken spot and realized we were at the same location when we pulled up. Upon arriving we order at the kiosk, grab a number and wait. There was a tad bit of a wait but I assume the owner, came around and handed out free cookies while we wait. They were nice and soft. We grabbed the BLT sandwich for myself and the BBQ plate for my boyfriend. BLT: wow the "Bacon" - I've had vegan bacon in my life but this one was the most similar to real thing. I am not vegan but could live eating this kind of bacon forever. Extra tomato and lots of mayo, but I'm a mayo girly. BBQ exceeded our expectations - they smoke the brisket for 3 hours! And wow it sure tastes like it. The sides are amazing too. Overall service was incredible, being checked on by the owner while balancing the rush of people. This place deserves all the hype. We ordered a ton of stuff, just because we wanted to try it all - and we were not disappointed. These guys make it look easy. You walk away from this restaurant wondering why there aren't options like this on every menu in every restaurant, because it's just so so so GOOD. You never eat this food thinking Wow, this is great vegan food, you think THIS FOOD IS OUTSTANDING! They are highly accommodating and very allergy-friendly here, and I was even told this is a nut-free facility. I have no idea how they make such excellent cheese sauce without nuts, but it's brilliant. We tried the brisket cheese fries, the reuben with garlic fries (ordered with extra cheese and extra saurkraut just because that is an option you can check off so why not?) the cheese steak sandwich and the smoked BBQ brisket plate. Saved half of this stuff for another meal (or two), and feasted like Vikings while we were there. Also got to order draft beers from the bar to go with, got a free choc chip cookie handed to us when we walked in the door (amazing), and topped it off with the vegan soft serve ice cream, which was also insanely good. Made from oats or oat milk, so NOT coconut forward, which I don't care for in ice cream. I'm from Atlanta, home of Slutty Vegan and this burger can easily rival theres. No complaints about the burger. I had the regular mission and my 6 year old had the junior mission. The toppings, the sauce, the patty were all top-notch! The fries are nothing to shout about. They are not steak fries but they're also not stringy, Just regular sized fries. They were fresh and well salted, but again nothing special. The seating area is in the middle of the convenient store so there's only about three small tables. The corned beef combined with the right amount of sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and thousand island sauce, piled high on an authentic marbled rye then heated through was perfection. I am so glad I was finally able to cross Mission Burger off of my list. It's been on my list of places to try for the longest and it is SO good. I love it. The crunch wrap was everything I wanted. And the fiesta burger was soooooo good! The service here is top tier. One of the cooks came over and gave us a cookie for free. Not sure if this is an everyday thing or just that day. But they had a tray of chocolate chip cookies that they handed out to us. The location is pretty unique. I've never seen a vegan restaurant inside a convenience store. But alas this one was. I know this sounds dramatic but IMPECCABLE SERVICE AND FOOD!!! Every time I've been here the workers have been incredibly kind, thoughtful, and generous to us. They give out FREE(!!) chocolate chip cookies that are crisp on the edges with soft chewy centers. So so good ‍ Now the FOOD: just look at the pictures. You can tell it looks packed with flavor. - Birria Mac and cheese: exactly how Mac and cheese should be. Cheesy, gooey, creamy and RICH. The birria "meat" is lions mane mushrooms marinated with depth of flavor. I do think if they somehow collab and marinate it in the birria at Nissi VegMex, I would simply *pass away* from being overwhelmed with flavor. But their birria is delicious itself too. At first I thought the portion was small, but it is HEFTY and really loaded. - the Reuben: wow this thing is (weight wise) HEAVY (I think it's like ! But also heavy with FLAVOR--the faux meat texture impressed my meat loving husband, he even said "wow" upon the first bite which is huge coming from him. The meat is smokey and the cheese they pair with it is wonderfully melted, they toast the bread crisp and buttery too. His only feedback would be to cut the meat into smaller pieces. I'm all about trying new food, but because we're allium-free vegetarians, it gets a little complicated. In comes Mission Burger, a 100% vegan burger joint that offers some pretty epic-looking burgers! I looked on their website and we can only have their Meati Chicken patty (unbreaded), which wasn't bad... but I only got one to share with my husband, because it's weird to get multiples of the same thing (it's hilarious when our entire family goes somewhere and we all get the same exact thing times 8). And with our diet, we were basically sampling a little here and there anyway, haha. When we got there, we had questions. Turns out Mission Burger shares space with a small grocery/liquor store... just walk in and you can see the stand smack dab in the middle of the establishment. There was a good amount of people in there, some ordering, others waiting. You order from one of the kiosks and the people there were so busy (there was only TWO people working at the time) that I ended up not asking any questions... I had wanted to inquire about the fries and the gluten-free bun, because one of my kids has multiple food allergies. Luckily, when I went back to the car, the kid in question finally conked out for his nap so it wasn't an issue. I ordered the classic chicken burger, no sauce. There was a bit of a wait time as they cooked everyone's orders. At least there are shelves to peruse and we got a free cookie (so warm and good!) while waiting. Once the order was ready, it was delicious despite not having the special mission sauce. We know Meati as I purchased from them before they started distributing to stores and restaurants, so I know we could have that one thing at least. My husband, who is one of those people who thinks everything is "okay" as long as it's edible and it conforms to his dietary restrictions later asked why I didn't get two burgers. I think that means he likes it. Or he was hungry. Maybe both. It was also $13, but I guess we paid for the patty which was pretty filling - all that yummy mycelium - and the labor. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because we could only have 1 thing (and maybe fries but I didn't get to ask so I didn't order them) and I couldn't get a better idea of what exactly we could have. One employee was in charge of cooking, but the lady was flitting everywhere getting orders ready. However, it's clearly a popular destination and the burgers I saw other people get looked mouthwateringly good! What a treat while my wife and I are on the Daniel Fast!! We came in, and I ordered the classic cheeseburger, and my wife ordered the steak sandwich. My wife, who is not a sauce gal; but gorgeous nonetheless really enjoyed the meat sandwich without the sauce. I had a piece and it tasted just like a piece of tender, perfectly marbled ribeye steak. Can speak about the sauce but from what I heard it just amplifies the experience so go for it! My burger was FREAKING AMAZING!!! Tasted delicious and was just like a classic smash burger. I mean the tomatoes, the lettuce, the sauce (Love The Sauce!!), the pickles, the jalapeno - I added jalapeno. I add jalapeno to everything, blame it on la cultural!! the bread looked amazing - wish I could've had it but it's a no-no on the Daniel fast so if this is your way get it on a bed of lettuce or wrapped. It was one of those, "it's been a weird day and I just don't have it in me to cook or I may just actually cry" sort of day and something compelled us to pull up to this convenient liquor store (Google brings you here). My husband and I were in town visiting from Dallas. We were extremely impressed to find and meet one of the owners, Michael, working behind the counter. He greeted us with a warm chocolate chip cookie that was delicious. He took the time to go through each menu item with us and gave us a free sample of the brisket which was out of this world. My husband got the Texas sunrise burger and said it was fantastic. I got a mission burger and we shared onion rings. They were delicious. Our daughter got crispy pesto chicken and said it was amazing. The atmosphere is clean and pleasant. We topped it off with some delicious soft serve ice cream. It was amazing. The tiny kitchen space connected to River City Market seems to be a revolving door for restaurants, cycling through three different concepts in under a year. Hopefully the latest, Mission Burger Co, is here to stay. They do one thing and they do it right. The standard burger build comes with a towering two Impossible patties and two slices of vegan cheese, plus all sorts of whimsies like meatless bacon, beer-battered onion rings, avocado, and more if you so desire. "Junior" sizes are also available that turn those double deckers into singles. Add caramelized onions free of charge, and you've got yourself one solid sandwich. The patty is nicely seared, cheese melted and gooey, vegetables fresh and crisp, and that brioche bun is like a buttery bread pillow. Seriously, what more could you want in a burger?
