Been to this Mission BBQ multiple times since living near Laurel in western Anne Arundel County in Russett as this is my closest location. I normally get the beef brisket either sandwich or entree, which comes with cornbread, and mac n' cheese or beans. Brisket you can get lean or moist. Moist is even more delicious, but less healthy than lean. Also, there are 6 varieties of BBQ sauces. My favorites are Texas Twang & West Virginia one. They have a Maryland style, which is a pretty good effort. There's also Carolina, Mississippi, & one other one. Good BBQ is hard to come by in MD, but Mission BBQ is always a great choice. Their blueberry clobber is incredible too, which I got a couple of times for free around Valentine's Day. Staff has always been nice at the Laurel location. Also, they support the troops & first responders. On 9/11 anniversary, they get a free sandwich that day. In 2024, my conservative dad also told me that at Noon everyday, they do the National Anthem. I asked my dad follow-up questions: Me: "Walked in at 12:05. Wonder if they still do that. Never heard them do before, but never was here exactly at 12. Do people stand up for national anthem at 12 even if they are in the middle of eating? Dad: "Yes" Me: "Does everyone stand up, or do some stay seated as they don't want their food to get cold or whatever?" Dad: "The employees stop working. Everyone except liberals stand up. They all face the flag waving on the TV until it is done. Many clap at the end of cheer." Me: "Oh wow, that's cool. So you do see some liberals stay seated?" Dad: "Just kidding on that." Me: "Oh and is it at every location? Like does Laurel, MD & all of them do it?" Dad: "All of them" Another time I arrived just before noon, which was nice as everyone stood up to put their hand on their heart while National Anthem is played. In 2024, my friend had a differing opinion from my dad on this noon National Anthem: Me: "Just missed National Anthem. My dad said Mission BBQ does at Noon everyday. I've never been right at noon." Him: "I would be pissed if I was in the middle of eating and had to stand up for national anthem." Me: "I hope I'm there one day so I can participate." Him: "Dealbreaker for an early lunch there for me." Me: "Liberals eat late. Conservatives eat first." Him: "Yeah they should have the conservatives eat at 11:30 and the libs eat at 12:30." The plate was photo perfect but I should have took the red flag as a sign it was after 6 pm and it was empty not one person inside. For them to take my order and within seconds to have my order ready...the whole plate was ice cold! So i would recommend saying you want "fresh" "hot" . read more

First, the food was good and didn't take long at all to come out. I was there around 4:20 after going to a movie. The cashier (Latina with freckles) didn't greet me, just stared at me until I ordered. She wasn't fully rude but she wasn't professional either. I just found the experience weird. The young man who gave me my food, slender Latino teen was polite and professional. I am a veteran and unsure if I will come back. It was just weird. But it was clean and the food was good. You can't go wrong with Mission when you are craving that moist, smoked BBQ. The staff greets you with a smile. Usually withing 15 minutes of arriving I am walking out the door with some smoked goodness, the brisket and sausage. BBQ beans and green beans with smoke briskett are always a treat. What made this visit more memorable was the seasonal dessert, banana pudding. They nailed this recipe. I hate that it is seasonal. I hope to catch it again soon. Bon Apetit. read more

The pulled pork, baked beans and brownies were all very good. The selection of sauces was also good. The brisket was over a little over cooked and dry (and I ordered moist), and the corn bread seemed dry and old. The staff were all excellent and helpful and the take out was ready on time with everything we needed. The restaurant itself was very clean and well kept. I had a great dining experience at the Laurel Restaurant with a friend on 9/11. There were many firefighters dining there that morning. Our host, Missy, was very pleasant and made us feel so welcomed for dining there. We really appreciated how she took such good care of us. She consistently checked on us to insure we were okay, especially acknowledging me as a first-time diner at the restaurant. Unbeknownst to my friend and me, we would soon experience a 9/11 ceremony outside commending our courageous, brave, firefighting heroes. The ceremony included a Youth Honor Guard Team and an Officer singing our National Anthem. I applaud Mission BBQ for this patriotic recognition. And, by the way, I also enjoyed the food and fellowship. read more

Stopped in for some dinner...smelled good in the parking lot...and.... YESSSSS!!! Delicious!! Pulled chicken was tender and flavorful. Added just a dash of the Memphis Blue sauce to kick up the flavor and was impressed. Topped with slaw and a side of baked beans...all good. We also the meat sampler with sausage, sliced Turley, and pulled pork. Sausage and pulled pork beat out the turkey with flavor. Turkey could use some help. Pleasant staff, clean restaurant. I ordered the baby back ribs, various sides and got a free dessert due to my retired military service. I like this place reminds me of Texas home cooked ribs without all the handwork. *Update* I'm kinda disappointed with one of my favorite restaurants. The last two times I went there, the food was not enjoyable but the customer service is still wonderful. My mom came to visit from South Carolina and I'm always excited to take her to try new places. She ordered the baby back ribs and noticed she received a lot more than the menu stated. This was because the ribs were notably old, so it was apparent that they were trying to get rid of them. I also got my usual brisket, moist and there was nothing moist or fresh about it. The taste and texture from both were similar to reheating meat. I decided to go again after my mom left because I mean...the mac and cheese is pretty good! The meat was much more the same as before, which was a disappointment. For now I'll give Mission Barbecue a rest and return at a later date. read more

I can't believe I didn't review this sooner. I live pretty close, so I come here fairly often. The staff is always very nice, and the food is always done so quickly. I usually get the brisket sandwich. I haven't been disappointed yet. The sweet heat sauce is like the cherry on top. It's a restaurant that has a military theme paying homage to our service members! You go to the counter to place and pay for your meal. You can either go sit down and have someone bring you the food or just wait at the counter for your food and go sit down. I did the latter. The cashier was patient and even signed a little (a plus). She also checked on me throughout the time I was there dinning. The place is spacious and clean with ample amount of seating. Let's get to the food: I ordered the NC Style pulled pork sandwich with the serving size Mac and cheese. Idk why I always do this when I see "NC Style", being from NC and knowing I'm going to end up disappointed. With that being said, the BBQ wasn't bad, just wasn't NC style ‍. First time here and it was definitely tasty! The quality of the food was good for "fast food" and I appreciated the way that you can customize your meal by picking your sauce flavor. I actually purchased a bottle of their BBQ sauce because it was that good. The ribs were amazing and the baked beans were a 10/10. Only thing is that the food is superrrrr sweet, if I could modify the sweetness they'd get an extra star from me. Great BBQ with a home style flavor. Cheap eat and they are proud to serve Veterans especially on Veterans Day so stop y for your free meal. They also have one of the best half and half's around outside of the "fil-a" place. My favorite main entrees are the salmon, and pulled chicken. They also have some great sweet potato mash and mac and cheese. There is plenty of seating for the whole family and this is a family friendly restaurant so you can eat peacefully or less peacefully with your children. Parking is abundant at this location there is street parking for free and plenty of shopping center parking if you don't mind a very short walk. Highly recommend this place. I love all Mission BBQ restaurants -- the food is top-notch, fast, and the support that they show the military community is felt by everyone. The staff at this Mission BBQ was amazing to my friend and I when we came in ~30 minutes before closing. They provided great service to us as if it was 3 in the afternoon. They cleaned up the restaurant while they let us hang out a little past closing and even offered us some peach cobbler before we left. My brother has been raving about the salmon at Mission BBQ. I have to admit that eating seafood in a BBQ place did not seem to go together. But, you know what, he was right. My husband, my daughter, and I all ordered the salmon with sides. The salmon was a generous portion, perfectly cooked and tastefully seasoned. It was really delicious. We enjoyed two very crisp and fresh garden salads and an order of Cole slaw. We sincerely appreciate Missy coming over to see how we were doing. She was so welcoming and delightful. I don't visit Mission BBQ often and it was my first time at this location a few days ago, but I'm definitely a fan! I came in to place a take-out order and I was greeted right away. Kudos for their great customer service. I typically get the brisket but decided to switch it up. I got the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of mac n cheese and lots of sauces on the side. It was tasty and filling and for the price, worth it! I didn't even take a pic but trust, it was good! I really love their sauces and they're so generous with it. They let me try as many as I wanted. My faves are: Tupelo Honey Heat, Texas Twang, and Memphis Belle. Currently, there's no indoor dining due to Covid! read more

A solid 4.35 DMV isn't known for anything approaching good BBQ so this is a really good and much appreciated option. Had the meat sampler with chicken, brisket and spare ribs. Chicken was seasoned the best and the others needed (salt) sauce. The infamous "fall off the bone" every restaurant usually lies about was actually in effect here for the ribs. The brisket was soft as a cotton ball, with a nice fat content. That helped the largely absent salt. The cornbread was cake-fluffy and very tasty. The fries were hand cut and were a spot on Five Guys twin. Service is friendly. The cashier actually offered me a sample of the brisket since I had so many questions, lol. 6 sauces to choose from (which I usually despise) but these were actually well executed and helpful. I tried them all. The Smoky Mountain one was my fave. Great value for $17 & change - enough food to share- and they're owned by veterans (which I like) with lots of military themed paraphernalia, patches, pics and assorted memorabilia throughout. Clean bathrooms too. Smelled nice. Wanna try the BBQ turkey next time. From the pics it was dry rubbed with visible rosemary/thyme/other spices on a crispy skin. Right up my alley. read more

Placing an order on the phone is a nightmare. Kylie was not focused at all and made it unnecessarily difficult to place our order. Her attention was everywhere but on our call and we had to restate it multiple times because she was not paying attention. We wanted to order a pick-up pack for 5 people and on the website it said that we could pick 2 or 3 meats. However, she told us we could only pick 2, so we told her to just give us an extra order of the brisket we wanted in addition to the meats we ordered in the pick-up pack. For whatever reason, we could not seem to get her to understand that we wanted all three meats and were willing to pay extra (even though the pick-up pack gave us the option for three meats). She asked us several times throughout the call when we would be there (how many times can you say "10 minutes" before it becomes obvious that the person on the other line is not paying attention?). During the call, she was having side conversations which caused us to have to repeat much of our order again, and we were a hair's breadth from cancelling the order altogether. Adding insult to injury, after she confirmed the order, she just hung the phone up. No, "Thanks, well see you soon". Not even a "K, bye". Seriously, If I'm spending almost $100 at your restaurant, is a little focus and courtesy too much to ask? On the flip side, the food was very good. We ordered smoked turkey, the whole chicken, and the brisket with mac and cheese, green beans, and baked beans as our sides. The smoked turkey was tender with a fantastic smoke flavor with a slightly spicy seasoning on the skin. The pulled chicken was surprisingly well seasoned (and with a little dab of the mustard based barbecue sauce it was perfect!). The chopped brisket was tender and flavorful and delicious. The portions were a bit small for five people. Especially the sides. But in terms of taste, everything was very good. The baked beans with chunks of brisket were my favorite, closely followed by the mac and cheese. I don't eat pork so I bypassed the green beans. We asked for slider buns and cornbread, but were only given cornbread. Fortunately, the cornbread was great too (and I'm kinda picky about my cornbread, so...). read more

Everything was delicious here. Even the salad! I'm really glad I ordered that salad because the ribs, brisket, French fries and cornbread were rich! But oh so good. Next time I would get the lean brisket instead of the fatty. And probably skip the ribs, they were too fatty for me. It was really fun trying all the sauces like 8! It seems to be another generic chain type of BBQ place. It's great for simple tasting BBQ if that's what you are into.. Meaning, if you have a taste for BBQ, it'll hit the spot but if you want something special or something to blow your mind and tastebuds, you will be left feeling unsatisfied. Everyone was nice, clean place, lots of sauces, pricing is what you will usually find if not a bit higher since it's a chain restaurant but it gets a 3 star rating for being just in the middle. Not great but not bad either. A disappointing note is how they are very proud of soldiers who serve/military (there's tons of military memorabilia plastered all over the walls and even have signage gearing towards military words), they do not offer a military discount which seemed very strange to me. read more

Saturday, my son and daughter in law hosted several of our family members. We ordered our meal from Mission Barbecue. I wasn't prepared for such great food. All of us were blown away. We ordered ribs, shredded chicken, mac and cheese, cornbread, cole slaw, baked beans and roasted chicken. We ordered a variety of sauces. It was quite a feast. Everyone was happy. I've had a few things at Mission BBQ now, and I definitely would have to go with a solid average bbq rating. It lacks a little spice and boldness, but you can sort-of level that out with the sauces they have. I probably would give it 4 stars, but the last time I went, I got a salad with their pulled chicken on top. The portion of pulled chicken was REALLY meager. I'm talking like 3 full chicken strips-ish portion. The greens and veggies were sort of an afterthought. Also, the dressings choices they had were "Ranch or Italian". I know that your heart is really in the bbq, but if you're gonna serve anything - you might as well put some effort into it. The only other place I've ever been offered a choice of two dressings is the Boy Scout Camps that I worked at. And even there... I thought it a bit riduculous. So I went ahead and made my own dressing. I took some of their Alabama sauce and mixed it with a little of their mustard based bbq sauce. It was pretty decent. Pepsi products on tap don't make me too happy, but that's just preference. If I went back, I certainly would stick to their bbq plates. I've gotten their turkey before, and it was very tender and good. I would not get their pulled chicken again. Even the meagar amount of it was not that tasty. Sorry! You should definitely be aiming in the direction of Pulled pork, brisket, or turkey. read more
