I've been meaning to try Mission BBQ for a while. On my way to target today I was starving and on a Mission to combat holiday crowds. The staff was extremely friendly, the Covid measures were strictly adhered to, the atmosphere was warm and the food was tantalizing. I indulged in 5 spare ribs that practically fell off the bone while I ate it, corn bread that was moist, crispy fries and pulled pork that was delicious. I felt like I was at a real barbecue. What a neat place with plenty of off street parking and tables and booths. The theme is supporting and honoring our military (+2) so you can't beat that. I was there for lunch but I don't think they sell beer. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Has a great selection of chicken, pork and sausages and can get a dinner or a snack. It is a rustic BBQ joint with pictures and other items honoring our military. I had the sausage and home cut fries; both were excellent. I entered and spoke to the cashier about needing to go to the bathroom and would be right back, she was standing at the side/takeout register. When I came back I was looking at the menu board which is not visible from where she was standing, I started speaking my order as I was looking and she said 'you'll have to come over here' with an attitude. For a chain, MBBQ is a great place for barbecue. I say this loosely, since I've only ordered their pulled pork. Sides are all very good. What I like best (besides their mission) is that they are SUPER fast at all times of the day. Their Fries and Ice Tea come in a close second. A year ago, my friend tried their special meatloaf platter. He didn't care for it at all and hasn't been back since. That being said, I would stick with their regular menu. It's always a pleasure to eat at different mission BBQ locations. This is yet another great experience. I was pleased with the customer service and their use of manners! I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and two sides. I chose the sweet potatoes (a seasonal side) and Mac and cheese. I also asked for a side of the apple cobbler (seasonal side as well). I then order a 5 bone Spare ribs and French fries for the meals side. They ask for your name so when it's ready they called me you up. As I came up, the gentleman that presented my food was so nice. He showed me my food and I realized there weren't any Mac and cheese. He told me he apologized and made sure to fix it with no issues. Then he asked me if I was familiar with the BBQ sauces and I was but if I wasn't he was willing to explain them. They always live up to great customer service and I love it!! The only con about this place is the Mac and cheese batch that I received wasn't as good as other locations, but I was willing to look past it since the rest of the visit was such a pleasure! Delicious baked beans and rib ends alike. (Yeah. I'm a burnt rib end kinda guy from way back.) The cornbread's slightly sweet (not my first choice) but singularly delicious -- maybe the best cornbread in all of Maryland. I will admit upfront that Texas has officially ruined all other BBQs for me. I went in knowing and expecting that Mission BBQ will not come close to any of the BBQs I had in Texas BUT I was craving BBQ. Overall, it was oh-kay, nothing amazing. This location is large, with lots of tables, clean and friendly staff. I ordered the following: 1. Market Sampler ($13.79 for 3 meats) - Brisket, Pulled Pork and Jalapeño & Cheese Sausage. I asked the cashier lady if this will be enough for 4 people. WRONG. This is barely enough to feed 2 people. The brisket was good but a little dry. The pulled Pork was extremely dry and sweet - did not like this at all. The Jalapeño & Cheese Sausage was delicious - the heat from the Jalapeño was great, and the creaminess from the cheese was a good contrast to the heat. 2. Bay-B-Back Ribs ($19.99 for 10 Bones) - this is supposed to be fall of the bones tender. Mission BBQ's ribs did not have that effect and it was on the dry side. I was not thrilled. For this price, I rather go to Jake's Grill up in Cockeysville, MD - much better ribs, juicy and smokey! 3. Fresh Cut Fries ($2.14) - good but nothing amazing or special. I had lunch here on this past Saturday around 3pm. It was nice and pleasant. I was impressed by the bottle of sodas they had to offer before I even reached the counter to place my order. I ordered a half rack of ribs with baked beans and it came with a piece of cornbread. Everything about my meal was all that. We chose to sit outdoors under the umbrella table. I like the idea that they have a choice of sauces that you can put on your ribs. Have it your way did you say. Even while we were sitting outdoors a staff member came by to check to see if everything was ok. He came back and cleared the table when we were finished and also upon my request bought some water to my table. Thumbs up Mission BBQ. Mission BBQ is a small chain with four locations in Maryland, one in Pennsylvania, one in Richmond, VA and one in Wilmington, NC. They're focused on giving back to the community and having a strong sense of American pride. Not only are you enjoying great food, you can feel good about it too. When I'm hungover, a sandwich will usually do the trick. I had a friend visiting from out of town and she wanted pulled pork for lunch, combine that with my sandwich hangover cure - I knew exactly where to take her. We drove over to Canton for some of my favorite BBQ in the city. Unfortunately this was not on one of those warm Sunday's we have had recently so we had to eat inside. The establishment is filled with memorabilia from local colleges as well as a Maryland state flag and the US flag. The dining style is fast casual, you order at the counter and they call your name when the food is ready. The menu is small with only five sandwich options, but that doesn't make the food any less delicious. My friend who was craving pulled pork ordered the NC Pulled Pork which was a sandwich topped with coleslaw. She said this satisfied her craving but she just wanted to go back for more the next day, it was that good. She topped the sandwich with one of the amazing BBQ sauces that are offered. My other friend ordered the Turkey Sandwich. She said it was good once she added some BBQ sauce, however she prefers turkey sliced thin and this was not what she expected. I ended up ordering the Chopped Brisket which is marinated in their Memphis Belle BBQ sauce. I have no idea how long that meat marinated for but it was flavorful and delicious. The meat was tender and the roll soaked up all of the excess sauce. Some of the best brisket I've ever had. Then, there's the option to make your sandwich a combo with the addition of a side and a fountain drink. We each did this and got the fries. You are handed a generous portion of fries alongside your sandwich and they are delicious. They are skin on and just thin enough where they get crispy but still retain the potato flavor. I dipped mine in the Alabama sauce and it paired well. For great BBQ in Canton, make sure to visit Mission BBQ. The portions are large and the prices are fair making it a great deal. read more

Top of the line! I really love everything about Mission BBQ, their food, their mission, and their restaurant. I had the privilege of attending one of their launch events today when I happened upon it. It was a "private party" but they invited me right in anyway. The decor and space are warm, open, and inviting. Very cool. For food I ordered the moist brisket, with their baked beans and brisket side, and fries. The brisket was cooked really perfectly. It was so tender, I was able to cut the strips with a plastic fork. They have a variety of sauces to choose from, all of which I tried, but in the end, none were necessary. The flavor of that cut speaks for itself. The sides were really good too. The fries were good with a little seasoning. I added one of the BBQ (Pueblo?) sauces on the side to dip. The baked beans are great too. Hot, and mildly spicy. For beverages, they have the standard fountain drinks, as well as teas and lemonade. They also serve beer, which I didn't get. I did notice they sell local Union Craft Brewery beer. Go local! All of this goodness for around $10? Yes please. I'll be back. And they had Cheerwine (!!!), a seemingly positive sign that this was going to be a good southern BBQ place, but the food was just Ok. We ordered a three-meat combo with pulled pork, brisket, and the cheddar-jalapeno sausage (and a side of cornbread). The pulled pork was very flavorful in more of a tomato based sauce, but it was SOO salty. The brisket was moist, but unfortunately without any flavor. On a positive note, mixed together, the pulled pork and brisket were pretty good. The cheddar-jalapeno sausage was pretty tasty, and the cornbread was moist. This is some of the best BBQ smoked meats available to Baltimore...maybe mankind! I ordered the triple platter with pulled pork, brisket, and turkey. My favorite was the pulled pork. None of the meats were dry---in fact very moist. I can only imagine that they slow roast their meats at low heat for a long time--but that's the home chef in me thinking out loud. Choosing which of the six sauces was a fun ordeal and their potato salad was mustardly delicious. A very solid offering. The things that kept M.BBQ from getting a full-five star from me...I wished it didn't have that franchise chain feel, portions were a bit small and the price was a little high to me for a cafeteria style restaurant. read more

AHHhhh...finally Mission come to Baltimore City, and in the new Canton Canton crossing. Which means great spacious parking. I've had Mission twice thus far. Once was a lone craving which led me to come to mission alone. The second was a wedding party with large heaping catered portions of Mission, which essentially amounted to unlimited meat and sides :) What I've tried: Brisket: moist, tender, smoky Pulled Pork: not as good as brisket but very solid, JUICY but not soggy. Buns: not sure if these are homemade, but they are really buttery and soft, not the bit dry. I think they are brioche. Sides: Mac and cheese: savory but not soggy Baked beans with brisket: so good, the added pices of brisket are very much welcomed All six sauces that are at the table: try them all! (The only think lacking is an NC based sauce, but there is a bottle of vinegar at each table so have at it). I need to go back and try the RIBS, then move on the turkey, sausage, and chicken. The day I came in there was also a meatloaf special so be on the look out for other specials that might be worth a try. OVERALL: my go to bbq craving in the city (but Big Bad Wolf and Andy Nelson still have a place in my heart if i feel like venturing out to the 'burbs) read more

I feel a strong sense of American pride whenever I eat here. I've eaten here more than six times now and twice with a large group of more than eight. I've had the chicken, brisket (moist & lean styles), sausage, and turkey. With various sides ranging from mac & cheese, green beans, fries, and baked beans. You pretty much can't go wrong with any of their menu items, as they are true to form yummy. I also enjoy experimenting with their collection of various sauces. Overall, I've always walked out satisfied and their excellent customer service is always icing on the cake. Donate $2 to the Wounded Warrior project and get a reusable cup, which is a great cause! I ordered the pulled chicken and green beans... perfect low carb meal. My son ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Both perfectly seasoned, nothing worse than meat that is too salty, these folks got it right! The sweet tea was perfect as well. Very nice reprieve from being to other restaurants here in the city where we have received horrible service, and been exposed to equally horrible food. After grabbing the food at the counter we sat down and within moments we were greeted at the table by a worker who asked if everything was OK and if we needed anything. She actually came back 3 additional times-wow, this just does not happen. I have never experienced this anywhere, ever at a counter order restaurant. The bbq sauce variety was great, to include delicious NC vinegar, and their own concoction called "Bay-B-Que" -very tasty with the added Old Bay. They even offer north Atlantic Salmon, will have to try that next time. Sorry, no food pics, couldn't take them as I was too busy enjoying this meal! The atmosphere is laid back with soft country music in the background. The workers at the register holler out a inviting greeting to everyone who walks in the door. The dining area is very clean/kept and is a phenomenal tribute to all of our heroes, civilian and military (even WW2 which my dad served in and you rarely see any mention of) We really need to speak to the manager...to give him a fist bump! I've become a fan. Mission BBQ is now a very convenient joint to obtain good-tasting, yet affordable barbecue meats. I love the two and three meat combo options. Slap on an XL or XXL combo to that and you'll get a drink and one or two sides, respectively. The ribs are delicious, but you can't get these with the meat combos. The moist briskets are a great second choice. As a Canton Crossing establishment, parking is never an issue. read more

First time dining at Mission BBQ and I'm a fan. Tried 7 of their sauces with Texas Twang being my favorite. Just the right amount of heat. Cornbread was moist. Macaroni and Cheese was also pretty good. Loved the sausage. The complimentary Strawberry Shortcakes was a very nice touch and good. Our table attendant Sean did an excellent job explaining the variety of sauces and making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our lunch. Phenomenal place in Canton to get some BBQ. The brisket is amazing and can be bought either moist or lean (which is dryer). Everything is a la carte so your meal can add up quickly. The ribs are great just a bit expensive and not a good value. The chicken is awesome and I recommend that too. They have some additional sauces right by the drink machines. They added a GA Mustard for those who want that southern twang / mustard base sauce. Also I recommend trying the Alabama White. Which is a rich / creamy base. Try everything. This place is awesome. Also buy the American Hero Cup at least once. It's $4 but $2 will be donated to the wounded warrior project. They also pause for the day at noon to sing/play our National Anthem. My first visit and one I looked forward to. I love the concept here - an informal BBQ joint dedicated to current and veteran armed services forces,with a passing nod to first-responders. I arrived before noon so I got in right before the lunch rush. (interesting note - the national anthem is played every day at noon - the entire restaurant stops and stands, facing the flag). The food - lots of the usual BBQ joint choices. I ordered the 2-meat platter with 2 sides and a drink. Meats are sold by the half-pound, so my two-meat choice was a quarter-pound each of pulled pork and brisket. I enjoyed the pulled pork, it had real BBQ flavor, but the beef brisket was so incredibly dry I could not bring myself to finish it. My sides were green beans with bacon and fries. Both of them were very good. I like the concept behind Mission BBQ, but the next time I come, I'm going to try the fried chicken. read more

AC wasn't working but the place was very comfortable on a perfect summer day. Simply put, I ordered the 3 meat sampler with brisket, turkey and their special 41 (?) smoked sausage with a side of green beans and bacon. Food was great. And there's a lot of it for the money. Should carry me through the rest of the day. And that's fine. Also, if you're not moved by the stores memorabilia to our uniforms, you're not paying attention. Keep it up Mission. read more

When my very not-American boyfriend wanted to have one of his last meals at Mission BBQ before he went home on vacation, I could not say no. I think the look on my face when I agreed was amusement: if a restaurant could be a caricature of a certain type of American, this place is a patriotic Kansas Citian. I had brisket, he had pulled pork. The food was really good. The service is good. We wrapped up literally 5 minutes before noon, and chatted a bit while we prepared to get in the going-to-the-airport mindset...and then something weird happened: apparently at noon each day, Mission BBQ plays the national anthem, and you're expected to stand, salute the flag projected on one of multiple monitors, and sing along. I am American. I personally think the national anthem is a beautifully-composed but maudlin song. I have no problem saluting the flag, but I'm not the best singer and usually just mouth the words and let others do the work of singing. However, this was awkward and more than a little creepy: in the middle of a restaurant? Really?? Context matters. At the Olympic games after your countrywoman or countryman medals...totally makes sense. But not a restaurant. The level of discomfort I felt reminded me of being forced to pledge allegiance to the flag before school each day in grade school. First, it's creepy when it dawns on you that each school day began with a vow to your country, which you no doubt did not understand at age 5. Second, like NO ONE felt like standing up and talking at 8 in the morning, after you got up from restful sleep to shower, dress, eat breakfast, and take a half hour bus ride into school. Back then, kids weren't drinking coffee like they do today, so you couldn't even use that to give you a little kick so that you could function. I recall hating this moment everyday. So yeah, same feelings of wtf. And that's just how I was feeling. My boyfriend was also very uncomfortable. Fortunately, we were done and left immediately after. Although this was a good kick off to some interesting dialogue about weird American habits on the drive to the airport, this is not an experience I will repeat. In fact, be forewarned: if you are not uber-patriotic, avoid this place at noon each day. I get that this is part of the entire Mission BBQ theme, but I wouldn't recommend taking a non-American companion at noon unless you want to expose them to a bit of spectacle and feelings of awkwardness. Everyone is different, though: if you love random displays of patriotism and nationalism, gaze upon the heavily-decorated walls, come around noon everyday, and salute to your hearts content. Very happy when we go here. I think we've tried all of the variety of meats. Everything is very tender, juicy and smoky good. I particularly love the smoked salmon. I also really love the seasonally selections of various items, this keeps everything fresh and adds variety.
