I only got the brisket sandwich and it was perfect for what I needed. The meat was cooked really well and it was just a good classic sandwich. I came in at the end of night so I got super fast service. The only thing that I would've liked differently was a little bit more clarity on what all the barbecue sauces were. They have so many sauces, but the descriptions for them were not quite visible anywhere so I didn't really know what I was getting. The food that I ordered was takeout so I didn't eat in, but they had a variety of places that you could come in and sit to eat if you choose. It was a very casual vibe as well. Probably one of the better bbq joints I've been to in the DMV and Baltimore area. It is also one of the most patriotic I've seen! Their decorations are representative of all the military branches plus police force and they seem to have deals catered to this group. This past Saturday Mission BBQ catered a memorial service at my church. They arrived on time set up beautifully including raised stands on the buffet, tablecloths and trash cans! Service was very professional including coming around to collect plates when we were done. They took the leftover food to the kitchen refrigerator and counter, leaving everything clean and tidy. On a day most fair, I ventured forth from my humble abode, eager to partake in the sacred ritual of barbecue. As any man of discerning taste would do, I ventured to the establishment, seeking my usual indulgence--a two-meat platter, with the finest brisket and pulled pork, and, naturally, a side of fries to complete the trifecta of satisfaction. I was so ready, so confident, that this humble meal would once again reaffirm the belief I had in the good people of Mission Bar B Q. Alas, my excitement was soon dashed. For when the to-go box was handed over to me, I could feel the weight of destiny upon it--nay, the weight of my hopes and dreams resting on a humble cardboard vessel, which I, like an eager schoolboy, hastily snatched from the hands of the cashier. "At last!" I thought, "A feast fit for a king!" And so, I set forth on my journey back to my apartment, dreaming of the sweet taste of slow-cooked meats. But as I traversed the streets of Canton, my mind was consumed by the aroma of the meal, my stomach grumbling in anticipation. I finally arrived at my domicile and quickly unpacked my bounty, my heart soaring like a bird freed from its cage, soaring high and unburdened by the cares of the world. But, oh, how quickly that bird of joy would plummet back down to Earth. For you see, dear reader, after but a few bites, the excitement began to wane, much like the sudden and alarming decline of a barrel hurtling down the mighty Niagara Falls. What was once a meal of promise became a bitter disappointment. And thus, my two-meat platter began to unravel in the most unfortunate of ways. Let us begin with the brisket, that great and noble cut of meat, which should be tender and full of flavor. But no, what I received was the burnt end of the brisket--a dry, charred, and tough morsel that could have been used as kindling for a fire. I dare say that even a ravenous wolf would have turned its nose up at this sad excuse for brisket, for it lacked both tenderness and the rich, smoky flavor that one expects from such a revered cut. I did what I could to salvage it, chewing and gnawing as though I were attempting to chisel a piece of stone, but alas, it was to no avail. My jaw ached, my spirit dimmed, and I felt as though I had been swindled--robbed of my birthright, my rightful brisket. And yet, I soldiered on, for I still had the pulled pork to look forward to. I thought to myself, "Surely, this will redeem the meal, surely the pulled pork will be the salvation I seek." But alas, this hope was quickly shattered as I bit into what I believed to be a tender and juicy bite of pork, only to feel a sudden crunch beneath my teeth. Crunch--what was this? What evil sorcery was at play? I soon realized, much to my horror, that I had bitten down on something hard--something inedible, something vile. Upon further inspection, I discovered it to be a bone, a hard shard of what could only be described as a culinary insult. Now, I ask you, dear friends, how is it possible to ruin pulled pork so thoroughly? To have something as simple and pure as pork, slow-cooked to perfection, tainted by the unforgivable presence of a bone? This bone, this grotesque foreign object, ruined what could have been a perfectly fine meal. I was left sitting there, pondering the nature of my misfortune, wondering where the harmony had gone. Where was the tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness I had come to expect? In the end, my meal was not the joyous occasion I had envisioned. I felt taken advantage of--betrayed, even. It was as though I had paid for a feast, only to be served scraps. Portion-wise, I was left wanting more, and what I did receive was not worth the price paid. The brisket, burnt and dry, and the pulled pork, tainted by the hard bone, made me wish I had never set foot in that establishment. Yet, hope remains, dear reader, for I shall return--though with great trepidation. For as any lover of good food knows, one bad experience does not define the entirety of a restaurant's legacy. Perhaps next time, the brisket will be tender, the pulled pork bone-free, and my faith in Mission Bar B Q restored. But until then, I shall remain cautious, for I have learned that even the most promising of meals can quickly turn to disappointment. May the next visit bring better fortune, for my heart longs to once again taste the greatness I was promised. Until then, I will cherish the memory of that once-glorious two-meat platter, now lost to the winds of fate. read more

Recently went here with a friend and had a good experience! I got the chopped brisket sandwich in Memphis Belle sauce and a side of mac n cheese. My friend got the salmon with a side of potato salad. The food came out lightning fast and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The sandwich was a decent size, but next time I'll try one of the naked meats so that I can play around with different sauces. The Memphis Belle sauce the sandwich came with was good but just a little too sweet for my taste. The mac n cheese was VERY tasty, creamy with a layer of crispy breadcrumbs on top that gave it a nice crunch. I do wish the side (which was part of the XL combo meal) was a slightly larger portion for the price. My friend reported that the salmon and potato salad were good. Others have said that their ribs are great as well, so I'll have to test the hype next time! Upon entering, this place does not give off the most welcoming or inclusive vibe based on their gaudy and overdone decor. But the restaurant itself has a very spacious interior with ample dining room so you can breathe from the aggressive and distasteful decoration. I have heard good things about their meat though, and I am a sucker for barbecue, so I had to try it out. I ordered the Pulled Chicken Sandwich with Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese and Green Beans & Bacon. I had to try the sauces so I coated my thick hunk of meat in their vast array of barbecue sauces. Honestly, I was not that impressed with any one in particular, and there was no conventional sauce to counterbalance the poignant flavors of the eccentric sauces. If I had to pick, the Texas Twang was the most palatable sauce they have. The meat itself was delicious though, so to my own surprise I preferred eating it dry because it was rich in flavor. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the flavoring on it was enough to send my taste buds into overdrive. Additionally, the sides-- the mac and cheese and green beans-- did pass the flavor test as they were decent compliments to the smokey meat. The mac and cheese was fairly standard, and the bread crumb topping really pulled the side together. The bacon in the green beans was delicious, but the green beans themselves were a little too mushy for me. Overall, if I wanted to indulge in comfort food, this probably would not be my first choice. I am not sure if I was a big enough fan to return, but if I do, I will definitely order takeout. The food team was very pleasant and hospitable, but I am not sure if I felt comfortable in this establishment. read more

Funny thing, despite visiting several times I never remember(ed) which sauce I like. During my last visit I was offered one of each. So I figured...I'll review the sauces. 1) Tulepo Honey HT - loved it. thin/runny glaze that's sweet (but not like honey) and surprisingly also very spicy 2) Memphis Belle - liked it. very little spice and strong mustardy flavor 3) Bay B Que - okay. a bit salty with a strong flavor of celery. there was almost no spice. 4) Smoky Mountain - okay. very little spice. couldn't identify any unique flavors so just imagine eating smoked turkey. 5) KC Classic- meh. i tasted hints of I think cumin and celery. to me this sauce was the spiciest. 6) Texas Twang - not a fan. I tasted Worcestershire sauce which I typically like, but not in excess...it gave the sauce chemiclally flavor. Anyway, there was no spice. **note: the sauces aren't terribly spicy...I can handle some heat but those with lower or higher tolerance will feel differently (obviously). read more

This place is fast casual/High end fast food as order at counter but have alcohol and plenty of seating both inside and out. Food was okay as brisket sandwich came with good amount of meat. This is a personal thing but felt bun a bit large and thus scooped out as much of the insides as possible. Not much can say about the cole slaw. Beer options were the various mega beers like bud and colors. Understand going for that southern nascar beer thing but times have change. Take away the bud and sell monument Pilsner. The portions were on point too - I paused & finished the rest later (still good after reheating). Price range @ $16+. I got hubby the Black Plate Special - Hawaiian Ribeye & added the same sides I had. I tasted the sauce provided for the steak & added a pinch to my fish - it was nice. I tasted pineapple & a hint of ginger, but I'm not sure what was in it but it'd be a nice addition for the salmon (hint hint). Price range @ $17+. I know he loves the sausage so I added an order of the Jalapeño & Cheese Sausage. I normally turn down sausage offers, but I tried this and like it. Beware if you avoid spice/heat - don't do this. We love spice and this sausage gives a good turn-up to the heat party. Price range @ $8+. There are options for the meal combos - you can just have the entree or make it 1 or 2 sides combo w/beverages. In total I spent $46+ for our food. For dessert I tried the Peach cobbler - small portion, ok price. I love sweets, but this wasn't for me. I've had cobbler, but this is different. I'm sure it's made many ways depending on the region but it was mushy in texture - no real flaky pie crust like I'm used to. Even when i order inside takes only about 5 min. The restaurant is very clean and you can see the workers constantly cleaning. The workers are also very enthusiastic and friendly and i always feel welcome. The workers even remember my name and order. Parking is very easy The food quality overall is pretty good! Stopped in for dinner the night before going on a cruise. The parking lot takes a little time to figure out. The staff and food were as expected as I have dined at several other of the companies locations. This is a fast casual experience. The proteins have a good deep smoke flavor. Everything is fresh tasting and nicely presented. The dining area is cramped with just enough room to move around. They did a great job of keeping the fresh teas stocked. I think my friend and I were two of five females in the whole restaurant! I guess males are the target audience for BBQ but I loved their selection as a health conscious female, too! I was pleased to see a few lighter or healthier options on the menu. I opted for the 8oz wild caught salmon and requested no butter. It comes with a piece of delectable cornbread. The vibe is cool (military and fire/police Dept support all over the walls) and the place was steadily busy but not too full to have 1 or 2 open tables at peak lunch time. I've always loved the name Mission BBQ. The name is as cool as the place and as good as the food. There are 6 different sauces in a caddy on each table. I tasted them all and they definitely added a lot to the tender chicken my friend got.. which was also delicious. They have a seasonal blueberry cobbler and sweet tea... I wanted to try both but resisted. What a great place to have lunch. The service is impeccable, the cashiers greet you upon entering the front door. The menu is simple and very affordable. They always have great meats and sides.
