I've been to other Brazilian restaurants and the food has never been as great as Miss Favelas'! I forgot what the name of my dish was, but it included steak, fries, a green salad, white rice and black beans (no, it was not the Peruvian dish- lomo Saltiado) it was about $25 and we also ordered a pitcher of Caipirinha which was $50. I've never had it before but it was a really good drink (great quality btw! You can tell they used good liquor and not that cheap stuff) After about 11pm the restaurant started filling up and the bar area gets very very very crowded. It gets hard to pass by to use the bathroom. The tables are also shared with other people because there's not too much room. I don't blame them. It's a small space and the fact that it gets packed shows you that they have good service. They played lots of Brazilian songs which my friends and I really enjoyed. Lots of people get up to dance (with the small space available). The DJ was great and changed it up time to time; from salsa to hiphop. It's just such a fun and inviting ambience. We were a party of six, this past Friday Night & the service was horrible. The waitress was extremely rude & aggressive. Also forcing the 2 in my group who wanted to share an entree, to either order 2 entrees or 4 apps. STRESSING THAT THERE IS A 20$ MIN. They Should inform guest before they seat them. The food was not great at all, One dish was good the shrimp in a cream sauce, but besides that it was blah. The waitress tipped herself 20%. which is usually fine. But I get a feeling the blond curl hair waitress is nasty to everyone. & who cares since she will just tip herself. We even complained to the manager, who also seemed to be like "wvtr". On the up side come & get a drink & dance to the live band, the ambiance was festive. & the tattooed bartender is the only thing that deserves 5 Stars at this establishment. This is an extremely popular place. It's always crowded to the point that you can't move at times--but it's a lot of fun! The food is decent, but not so cheap. Definitely Not the best Brazilian in Brooklyn or the city. However, you go there for the live forro or samba music, dancing, and caipirinhas. They have DJs on Thursday and Friday nights. I went briefly after this year's Brazil day and was looking forward to checking out this place as I've heard so much about it. The decor is great, pretty cool - but the place was too warm. I get that they're trying to go for the favela vibe, but god, get fans that actually do something. The pretty boy ponytailed bartenders were rude and not attentive whatsoever. They took forever and had like only one or two people actually wanting to get drinks. For such a slower evening, they were doing a terrible job. And when I asked for water for my wife and I - they looked at me, proceeded to ignore me, and instead struck up a conversation with some random girl. This place is a joke. read more

This is a really cool Brazilian bar in Williamsburg, adjacent to the Williamsburg Bridge. The interior is really cool, feels open and there's lots of windows that let light in on a sunny day. The beer selection is straight outta Brazil and the drinks are strong. I cannot comment on the crowd as we were there circa 2PM on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy, but the staff was attentive and friendly. You really feel like you're in another place once your inside - my friends and I agreed that if you blindfolded someone and then simulated a plane ride - I don't know how you do that exactly but it probably involves hitting them with a beverage cart - and then brought them into this bar and took off the blindfold, they might actually believe that they were in Brazil. None of us have actually been to Brazil, mind you , but this is good enough for us. read more

My friend mentioned this place to eat brunch for my last day in NY. When I looked at the yelp reviews, I was a little uncomfortable going, three stars sounded pretty disappointing. But we decided to go anyways. The aesthetics of the restaurant is really favela trendy, the expose brick with green paint, the decorations and the extra items gives this place a feel of Latin American poor restaurants, but at the same time, it has this cool look to it. I ordered an Acai Bowl, Brazilian toast, and my friend ordered a feijoada (it was Saturday Feijoada) and sides of coffee. We shared everything. The Acai bowl was a little different than what I am use to having here in California. I'm use to having it more in a liquid form, rather than a paste/sorbet form, however it was still good, just different than what I am use to having, however it still came with granola, banana, and strawberries, good plate for a night after going to bars. The Feijoada, this plate was heavy, which is how it's suppose to be. The beans had good flavor and texture, the different meats, when we got them felt fresh (after all we got to the restaurant right when it open 12pm). Rice and vegetables were also fresh. Good plate, however it has a lot of meat which could be a turn off for me. But if you're the meat eater, I recommend it. The Brazilian toast, amazing, really soft made, the sugar portion was perfect, not too sweet, and with plenty of fruit! From mango to strawberries. This restaurant is also good to catch up, or get to know someone, I think we spent an hour just talking about random stuff. The staff was really friendly as well. We were able to falar em Portugues, with one of the workers, it was easy to spark conversation with her. It's a great place for brazilians who miss their food and music. Feijoada is tasty and the natural juices are delicious. Coxinha is not so good, and caipiroska is meh. The place gets reeeeeealy crowded on Saturdays: people want to stand up and dance samba/pagode, but the 'dance floor' overlaps the hall where waiters come out of the kitchen with plates and it is also the way to the toilets. So the place turns into a mess. Waiters want to get their job done and they don't mind if they have to nudge someone in order to make to the kitchen. Decoration-wise, it is a funny ambiance, it has many brazilian traditional items(cachaça bottles, Havaianas nailed on the ceiling) that probably would be too tacky to have them in a restaurant in Brazil, but at Miss Favela they look cool. We ordered the seafood appetizer plate, which was delicious!! We also got the acaraje appetizer, which didn't taste as good as the one I tried in Brazil. My friends ordered a huge meat dish that comes on a skillet with French fries to share. They loved it. I got the vegetarian dish of sides, which was only $15 - an awesome deal - especially compared to the price of all the other entrees (mostly $25 and up). It was worth it, the dish was so tasty!! I would go back for that dish alone! It had so much flavor and it was better than most anything I ate when I spent two weeks in Brazil recently. I subtracted a star from their rating because I think their prices are too high. $10 for a small caipirinha (cocktail) is excessive, especially in this part of Brooklyn. Definitely have to give this place 5stars due to service and absolutely amazing drinks and food , I gladly appreciate to have this restaurant recommended to me. I sat at the bar and of course got the caipirinha went straight for it tried a few different flavors (caju ,kiwi and acai ect .... must say best in town ! I got the misto for 2 which contains skirt steak chicken sausage , rice beans , fries and sautéed onions perfect portion for 2 and for the price you can't beat had to take some home it tasted delicious . Love the hipster decor and perfect playlist music had me on a great vibe. But all appreciation goes to the bartender Antonio due to his great service and friendly humor and making me and my friend feel welcomed we will definitely be returning for a weekend to enjoy the live band ! read more

Ok, so at the present moment Caipirinhas are my favorite drink, I make a mean one myself I must say ;) so I found out about Miss Favela's awhile back and last Sat. I managed to get out there, I went solo and arrived around 11:45/midnight good crowd but wasn't overly crowded I made my way to the bar and got my Brazilian on ordering caipirinha after caipirinha, and they were fantastic! The drinks alone is what I'm giving them 3stars for, I wanted to give them 4 but on this night I guess the DJ just was not into it, his music sucked big time, I didn't order any food so I can't judge that, the crowd was nice and attractive, there were a lot of groups there but I didn't feel like a loser by coming in by myself other people at the bar were really friendly and talkative. Bottom line this is a good place, think Brazilian dive bar, once your inside you'll think your in a cool bar right outside the Favela's of Rio, I will definetly be going back soon and I will be looking forward to Miss Favela earning that additional star by playing better music! read more

This place is really cute. My friend & I bumped into this place on the way back from hanging in Williamsburg. They had a live Brazilian singer. She had a beautiful voice. The food looked really good but we had already eaten so we only had a beer. The chairs outside were very uncomfortable. They were old metal chairs & some of them didn't even have back support. Saturday afternoon perfectly spent at Miss Favela. The amazingly fun crowd with the live music! When I got there around 3pm, the restaurant was packed, and I could barely move. Luckily there wasn't any line, but I heard there is usually a long line to get in after 2, 3pm. There were some people dining in, but I couldn't believe there were people eating food while others sang and danced along with the loud live music. Honestly, I wish they would just stop serving food and made more space for dancing. It's not the best place to have a quiet meal. I only had rice coroques at a bar seat, and it was okay. The food is ok, but the caipirinha is not a real caipirinha. They have so many tricks against the consumers that make me not go back. First, they don't accept any type of card, debit or credit, which in NY is an old trick to don't paying taxes. Talking about taxes, they will include them on your check that is written on a piece of paper which is not even a real restaurant receipt. This proves my theory about the taxes. And to make it worse, they DO NOT accept coins, they just say "we don't accept coins"! WTF? Avoid the place. read more

Caipirinhas by the pitcher and nice selection of shots (Cachaça marinated in mango, pine apple, etc). We would often get a free shot when we would order and the waiter would usually take one with us. The caipirinhas are amazing! Do not go there to enjoy a romantic, quiet place, this place is very loud but that's the whole point, it is a afternoon party place not a quiet brunch place. This was a great find on a Tuesday evening! They had the windows and doors open to the street, great Brazilian tunes playing, and the colorful decor really suited the whole vibe. It felt like we were in Brazil! The food was great (we got the sausage appetizer and the popular dish that means 'little one'), and although not cheap, the portions were big enough to share, so it made up for the price. The bathrooms could have been a bit cleaner, again because the prices aren't that of a 'dive' but still love the paint job! Overall great ambiance here and I would bring guests for sure. read more
