I really love mandarin house - they have great American Chinese food and they deliver which is a big plus! Not only do they deliver, they do so extremely fast! Every time I order for delivery they usually arrive within 30 minutes of placing the order - which is faster than most of the pizza places in town. The food quality is pretty good, although it's very similar to other Chinese places in town. They serve the classics like sweet & sour chicken & prawns. We found ourselves here, Graduation-eve, as most Pullman establishments were either mobbed-busy or already closed (it was 830ish) My sister recommended it, and since it was new to me (didn't exist when I went to WSU!) it was definitely a treat. Along with our parents, and significant others, we had a nice big party of 8, which they graciously accommodated after a short 10 minute wait. We ordered a literal cornucopia of entrees - enough for all tastes at the table, and boy, each was better than the last. I really enjoyed the honey shrimp, as well as the few beef dishes we had. I was visiting some college friends in Washington and we were craving Chinese food. We went to Mandarin House because it was the go-to Chinese restaurant for all the students at Washington State University. Now, I'm pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food (grown up in Asia and then little Taipei in LA). Much to my surprise, the food here was as good as the places in LA! Furthermore, the value was really good, as I think the owner is trying to keep the prices low and affordable for the students. When taken into account the value, I rate it a 5 out of 5. One of the better Chinese restaurants in Pullman. It's located right on Grand, at the four-way intersection off of Main. Although parking is a bit of a pain, it's worth it :) The employees are always so nice and work with a smile! We're always seated in a timely manner and are given little crispy wonton strips and sweet and sour sauce to snack on while we wait for our food. The combination dishes that they have are always the best deals; especially when all you want to eat is... everything on the menu! I agree with most of the recent reviews that this place is really overrated. The reason: all the glowing reviews are from a couple years ago, so their quality has apparently suffered a recent downturn that isn't reflected in their overall rating. My guess is that they're trying to cut costs to stay in business, which has negatively affected their quality. My egg roll tasted like a tiny tube of fried cardboard and the almond chicken was little scraps of chicken in big clumps of heavy, deep-fried batter swimming in Americanized gravy. Just like most American Chinese restaurants, the sweet dipping sauce was all red food coloring and sugar. The prices were average and the service was really good, but it's hard to judge service when we were one of only two tables of customers during our lunch visit. When I asked for hot sauce, our waitress brought out a cold bottle of Sriracha right out of the fridge, even though Sriracha doesn't require refrigeration. This is the equivalent of asking for butter at an American restaurant and getting a frozen square. This is a small detail, but all the things I just noted were small details that add up to a lackluster dining experience. read more

The Mandarin House serves great Taiwanese cuisine -- if you can order off the Taiwanese menu, and you actually know what Taiwanese food is. My wife is Taiwanese, though of the generation of kids who were basically raised like caged chickens, and I've eaten likely more varieties of Taiwanese food than she has (I've been to Taiwan for a month). They have the typical American Chinese menu, but if you ask, they will give you the Taiwanese menu, and you can ask for recommendations. Most Americans have no idea how one prepares the different vegetables, and they keep a fair amount of things like Qingcai and Chiedze in stock, so you can get great Chinese eggplant, or pork ears here. But you have to know how to ask. The best thing to do before showing up is to study up a little -- then when you ask for traditional dish, they can fill you in. If it looks like the Chinese students that frequent this place are getting different food -- it's because they are. So step up -- they don't discriminate! read more

BY ACCIDENT MY 2 DAUGHTERS AND I ENDED UP EATING HERE ON SAT EVENING 8-8-2019. Just an average Chinese Restaurant, nothing special well except the food. I do not like egg drop soup which came with my daughters meals. My opinion changed as soon as I gave it a try, wow what a superior soup. I ordered a cup of Won Ton soup and was even more impressed, the best I have ever had. I was hoping the entrée would be half as good but yet again was astounded by it's perfection. The shrimp was moist and melted in your mouth and every vegetable was crisp and full of flavor. Probably one of the best places to get Chinese food in Pullman. When I first came to Pullman, there wasn't as much diversity in Asian cuisine as I thought there would be, but after walking around town one day, I stumbled upon this restaurant and I have loved it ever since. The wait staff usually only consists of one woman. Also their daughter seems to sometimes bring some food out for customers and she is so cute; probably around the age of 6? I did not expect the food to be as good as Chinese food back home but it seems pretty close. :) The portions are pretty massive so if you plan on ordering family style, be sure to have others with you! The Salt-Chicken, which I think is on the appetizer menu is a MUST try. We ordered Almond chicken & lemon chicken. The delivery was right on time. No complaints there but the food was horrible. The almond chicken was so bland & tasteless. We did not get the lemon chicken we ordered (the food delivered was wrong. It was on time but it was wrong order.) Instead our order included sweet & sour chicken. The sauce was ok but not great. This is my boyfriends and my favorite spot to go for dinner here in Pullman. The staff is always amazing and so friendly- we always feel welcome, the (delicious) food is reasonably priced for huge portions, the atmosphere is very cozy, and I even had a birthday dinner there where they made it extra special and brought me out a dessert! There are MUCH better places here in Pullman to eat than Mandarin. Golden Teriyaki and Emerald Garden are 10 times better, and also cheaper. I don't know how there are so many reviews in their favor...when I asked all my coworkers about it they laughed at me for going at all. Being from Seattle area I have high expectations of Chinese and there's really no excuse for poorly executed food that's just greasy and flavorless. The pork tasted old, the rice was bland, and the meat in the sweet and sour and almond chicken tasted very off. My sister was in town for homecoming and after unsuccessfully trying to get a seat at Phikun's we decided on Mandarin House. It wasn't terribly busy but the customers there were almost all Chinese so at that, my sister and I knew that we made a good choice! Boy, was the food delicious and plentiful. I ordered the mongolian beef and my sister had cashew chicken. The sauces were distinctly different and equally delicious (this isn't always accomplished at 'fast food chinese' places). The service was prompt, attentive and lovely. I left a large tip in accordance to the satisfaction of my tastebuds and the next day (don't judge) when we went back the waitress remembered us and hooked us up with a couple freebies!
