How can you live with yourself! You have the potential to become a Michelin star restaurant, yet you can't even compete with your sister down in Doraville. You have no business even being in the same plaza as elite establishments, like Iron Age and Glam 104. As the calm and peaceful Will Smith stated, "At your highest moment, be careful, that's when the devil comes for you." Well, Mings BBQ Duluth, you're not even CLOSE to your highest moment! So no need worry about the devil coming anytime soon. TLDR - They had no crispy pork left (in the middle of the afternoon). They charged us $3 per bowl of rice, even though we ordered multiple meat entrees. They charged us $1 extra for a small saucer of green onions. Our group lightly joked about inflation after hearing these extra charges, and the waiter indirectly told us to buy/cook our own food if we didn't want to pay. Every time I bit into the duck, I had to spend 20 seconds picking the bones out of my mouth. So, as I was saying, an absolute travesty. read more

Come here for good eats, big portions, but the service is pretty lacking. If you come during lunch/dinner rush, the servers are very frantic and there are certainly not enough of them to take care of everyone. I always have a craving for their DRY beef chow fun! The first time we got it, they accidentally put gravy on it (the "wet" version). They asked if it would be okay and honestly, the wait for a new plate would have been too long, so we took it. I got the duck rice plate. It came with a generous amount of rice with what seems like soy sauce on it. half of the rice was topped with cut up roasted duck and the other half with bok choy. The duck was very fatty, and by very fatty, half of each piece was pure fat and the other half was actual meat. The skin was decently flavored, but I could not finish more than a couple of pieces of duck. There was just so much fat. If you want a plate of fat and barely any meat, go here. I got my food togo. Hopefully, they do better when the food is dine-in. For a place that specializes in barbecue, I expected better meat. Also, the soy sauce on rice made me feel like I was eating a "we have nothing to eat at home so throw together some leftovers" meal, not something I got from a restaurant. Looking back, I'm pretty sure they gave me roast pork and not roast duck. The ticket on the bag says roast duck plate, but i'm 99% sure this is pork. I don't even like pork. We decided to stop here for dinner on a Saturday 05/31 around 9 PM. We were really pleased to find out they're open till midnight Saturdays (just in case we crave Asian flavors late night and don't want to drive to Chamblee). You can judge the decor by the photos, I think it would be an okay place for a casual dinner. It'd be kind of weird to go here by yourself though. SO! As far as the food goes we ordered vegetarian only. Ming's Buddha Pan Fried Noodle & Braised Tofu with Mixed Vegetable. Ming's Buddha Pan Fried Noodle - big, flat noodles that taste like pan -_- brown sauce, big brown mushrooms (ear mushrooms?), fried tofu, sliced carrots, snap peas, chinese broccoli with all this leafy stuff. Braised Tofu with Mixed Vegetables - Everything listed above minus the pan fried noodles and a lot more green leafy stuff I'm guessing maybe because these dishes were vegetarian, the flavor was lacking compared to meaty dishes because the Black Bean chicken was good when I had it a year or so back. I definitely had to ask for hot oil and used soy sauce to flavor the dishes. Rice seems to be unlimited you just have to request more if you're dining in. I heard take out portions were small. The customer service is really friendly even though they seem rough at first they're really not! Just be patient and point and specify what you want and don't want and they will tailor to your preferences. One thing I DO NOT like at all is the meat publicly hanging and the loud chopping noises from the chef. The kitchen seems to be out in the open, but it's so cringe worthy and sickening when you don't eat meat. Altogether, this is not a go to place for me, it may be for you if you eat meat. I'd preferably go here if it was late night and I wanted Asian food or if I had guests in town. The prices are fair, the portions are good dining in, the food seems to be authentic tasting. I guess the waiter, who happens to be the manager did not understand when my wife said, Instead of the stringbeans and pork, we will have the Roast Pork instead. Well the order arrived and with both pork order. The waiter forced us to take both orders stating that they are differnt pork dishes. We won't be returning to this place in a while. My family and I have been enjoying (and craving) Ming's for many years so this review is long overdue. Dad always always always orders duck, and roast pork (make sure its The Bar-B-Q roasted if you want that sweet, sticky glazed otherwise you get the crispy skinned pork that tastes like bacon- not complaining, I just always accidentally order the wrong one lol) we get a big box of Chinese vegetables and a extra "$1" large box of rice and oh yeah the black bean chicken is heavenly... there are just some flavor profiles you can only get from certain dishes and black bean sauce is one of mine! We've come here a couple of times and the food and service at the Doraville location are better (it is the same owner but they have different menus). We had a rice plate with bbq pork and duck. The duck was the bony part with very little meat. It seems like they serve the worst parts of the meat for these rice plate orders?? The plate comes with a very small serving of rice and a couple of strands of cabbage. So thumbs down for both quality and quantity. We also had the beef chow fun with vegetable. This is a wet noodle dish. It was really really salty and they did not pull apart the noodles so we had clumps of noodles stuck together (this also suggests the noodles are not that fresh). This review was written after my second, and not so great, visit. I can't remember what we had the first time we came but I remember it being decent and would have given this place 3-stars on the first visit. While this place is a good place for authentic Cantonese food, I never had good service here. It's almost like they don't care that you are a paying customer. I have been ignored so many times even though I walked up to the counter. Last time I ordered Roast pork to go and I was rudely told that it only comes by the pound. They got a new menu so no prices are displayed. We got the chinese broccoli, bbq pork rice plate, and roast duck rice plate ($8 each so the bill was $24). They were all very good. Meat was tender and well marinated. Rice had the right amount of sauce at the bottom. The chinese broccoli was cooked perfectly but still firm with a fair amount of oyster sauce on top. I've been here multiple times and my favorite dish is the roast duck or roast pork egg noodle dish. So warm and delicious! The wonton egg noodle is really good too! It fills me up easy. I even got my boyfriend rice porridge from here when he was sick and he ate the whole thing. I love this place for a fast and affordable meal. I've had the chance to try a couple of Cantonese spots in the area now, and Ming's BBQ gets 5 stars from me. This is one of two Ming's restaurants, the other being in Doraville which is a lot smaller. It's a pretty casual and roomy spot, great for a quick lunch or dinner. The workers speak minimal english but the menus have relatively accurate translations so it works out. A majority of the customers are Asian, but the ones that weren't also really enjoyed the food here. (I'm judging this by their reactions and exclamations of 'omg so good!') We had the: - Hong Kong style Milk Tea: This was really good. There is a distinct tea taste along with its classic condensed milk sweetener. It's a bit thicker and creamier than standard tea. - BBQ Roast Pork Noodle Soup: You have the option of different types of noodles so be sure to ask. Soup was flavorful, there were lots of veggies, and the roast pork was fresh. My noodle soup arrived filled to the brim. I made it about halfway before I realized I couldn't make it any further down. Ming's BBQ has always been my go to place, especially if I don't know where and what to eat late night. I always liked the noodle soups and usually get it with BBQ pork and duck. $8.99 for two meats. It's delicious and you get a pretty good portion. If I'm not feeling the noodle soup, I'll just get the same thing except with rice instead. I believe it's the same price. For drinks, I alwayyyys get the HK style milk tea. $3.50. SOOO good, I'm not kidding. Most authentic you could find in Atlanta I would say. Definitely give that a try if anything! I am not one to slam a place because I genuinely wish for businesses to do well in the area that I live in. But after today's experience, it was confirmed that this restaurant does not care for its customers. I frequent this place and recommended it to my friends many times because I enjoyed their food and it is not too far from home. I went there today and ordered a number of dishes including their roasted duck. While I was eating, I felt something hard and flat in my mouth. I reached in and pulled out a piece of hard black piece of plastic. I placed it on my plate and when the wait staff came around, I informed them of the plastic in my food. The waiter took the piece of plastic and walked away. Now, I would like to point out that whenever I went to this restaurant, I ordered a good amount of dishes and always tipped well. I wasn't expecting anything for free or any type of special treatment, but not a single person came over to apologize or even address the issue with me in any way. I used to be a waiter in college, so to my knowledge, it is proper etiquette for someone in management to at the very least apologize for the plastic in the food... no such luck. The food is served extremely quickly, although you'd think it would have taken a lot longer because of the perfect presentation and amazing taste. You wouldn't believe the amount of good quality food you're able to get at Ming's for such a low price. The must tries are the Roast Duck Noodle Soup and the Salt Pepper Shrimp! I've always seen Ming's BBQ but never took the chance to go eat in (or take out) until Mother's Day. We came in with a party of 5 and were seated at a round table in front of the cashier and prep area where the roasted pig, ducks, and chickens were on display. There are two menus and they're pretty much the same but the difference is that the bigger white menu has prices and displays all Ming BBQ has to offer while the dark menu has pictures. Service, when it's busy, is okay. We didn't need much, just a few sauces here and there, and the wait staff did their best to fulfil our requests as the restaurant began to fill up. We ordered a variety of dishes: wonton noodle soup, roasted pork belly, half of a roasted duck, steamed Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, spicy garlic eggplant, and beef chow fun. All the dishes were on point but the star of the night was definitely the eggplant dish. 10/10 would order it again. The pork belly was a little dry so we asked for sauce and they brought out a small cup of dark sauce; it definitely did the trick. It would have been nice if the roasted duck had crispier skin but I'm sure the roasted duck had been on display in the window for a while so the important thing was that it tasted good, and it did. We were also given a large bowl of rice to share between all of us. The dishes we ordered were just enough for all of us and overall, I had a good experience. TLDR, go eat at Ming's BBQ. I have always been a pretty big fan of this place, but I have to admit the quality of the dishes and service has gone down hill in my last few visits and I don't know why I keep returning... Thinking it will suddenly go back to what I recall enjoying when they first opened. The Cantonese style is full of flavor The giant clams, the BBQ chicken, roast ducks and the seafood dry fun noodles. Only it has all gone down hill and even the sign in the window that reads open until midnight needs to be updated to 10:30. I recall that the servers originally were super nice, but recently they seem very snippy and not very helpful. Rushing me to order and trying to bus the table while my family is still ordering. I am not sure if when they changed the hours if they also switched cooks or what. The meat has been overcooked at times. The dry fun tasted like it was soaked in gallons of soy sauce and when asked to fix it they told me it is how it comes. Having had that many times before I knew it was a mistake only sure enough it was bad the next time when a friend I was with ordered it. I've had my eye on Ming's BBQ for several years. I just never got around to visiting until recently. I knew they had amazing duck meat based on fellow Yelp reviews but didn't realize how great their food was until I visited them myself. The restaurant itself is in the Mall Corners shopping center off of Pleasant Hill Rd. Iron Age Korean BBQ is on one end and Ming's BBQ is on the other. It's right next to Mac Lab, the macaron café. You can't miss their restaurant sign because it's in bright yellow and parking is plentiful. My boyfriend and I visited Ming's for one reason and one reason only: to try their duck meat. He is a huge fan of duck meat and has been eating it for years at his local Chinese restaurant and I knew that Ming's would not disappoint. Our server was quite helpful as it was our first time. We ended up getting the whole order of roasted duck. It does not come with rice so plan on paying a couple dollars for a giant bowl of rice. The roasted duck was super DELICIOUS. If you like dark meat, you'll love duck meat. It tasted fresh and the meat itself was cooked evenly. I'm a fan and have told many friends about it already. Our visit was so successful that I revisited the next day and brought my friends Antony and Angela there to try their duck meat as well! On a side note, I really like that for new comers, they have a menu specifically with photos and coordinating entrée titles so you have a visual. I used my handy dandy Yelp app. and showed our server photos that fellow Yelpers posted but the "picture book" style menu also helps tremendously! They thoroughly enjoyed their Peking duck and garlic, chicken and eggplant entrée. The Peking duck comes with boneless, sliced duck meat, the buns to wrap your duck meat in, sliced scallions & jalapenos, rice, and a stir fry dish made of duck meat and bean sprouts. And if you're a huge fan of eggplant, then I highly recommend you order the garlic, chicken, eggplant dish. The flavor is mild but the eggplant is cooked so well that it tastes super "meaty" and almost reminds you of eating boiled potatoes. On my second trip, I ordered the Honey BBQ pork plate with rice and veggies. My boyfriend and I are HUGE fans of the duck meat here and I'm sure we'll be visiting again soon enough. This is hands down the best spot for authentic Chinese BBQ! Roast pork, roast pig, or duck, you name it! Everything is fresh as can be, and the skin from these meats are crispy as SHOULD be! I was very pleased with the fast service, it looked like there was only one chef running the meat section of the kitchen. My family ordered their vegetable of the day, duck, a side dish of half roast pork and half roast pig, curry cellaphane noodles, and a bowl of wonton egg noodle soup + a side of roast pig on a seperate dish rather than in the soup. Since it's only $1 more to add meat to soup noodle entrees, and we were already full, we asked for the roast pig on the side so we could take it home as leftovers without the meat being soggy from the soup. I highly recommend everyone do this if they are eating more than just soup entrees cause they serve a LOT of meat for just $1 extra! The curry cellaphane noodles were excellent, I think it's perfect for everyone to at least give it a whirl to expand their taste buds in the curry department because it wasn't spicy, but there's hot chili on the table for you to add to your liking! What happened to the customer service here?? I've been coming here for 5 years now and they're the same ladies that work here but they've gotten real nasty in their attitude. The menu for king oyster mushroom with beef is $16. When I get my bill at the end of the meal it says $19.99 ummm hello?!? Up-charge of $4 and I don't even know about it?? I ask the cashier and two other waitresses come up and start fussing about how I was lying. They look at the menu and indeed it is $16! But they insist I pay the $19.99 and they will give me a free can of coke. I was about to give in and just pay the check when the two waitresses start talking trash about me in Chinese! Here's the kicker: I'm Chinese and I understand completely. I politely say in Chinese that I should be charged what's on the menu. And of course they continue to rant about me to my face. Really? I was baffle because I thought he would need my name and number but instead he just hung up the phone on me. 20 minutes before they closed, he called me back asking "where are you now?" and I told him I will be there in two minutes because I just got off of exit 104, he interrupted by saying "I don't care if your off of exit 104 or 401! We're closing exactly at 1045 and not opening our doors." I was shocked by the way he talk to me and couldn't believe that he would say that especially since they have a sign listed that they closed at 11pm. Luckily I got there 40 seconds before 'they will close the door at 1045'. When I stepped in, they had five tables of people dining in who seem to still be eating their food so I didn't see what was the issue for me to pick up my food 17 minutes before they close. As I arrive he scream across the restaurant asking if I'm the take out person then during my checkout he asked me what was my race. At this point I was really annoyed by the way he talk to me and rushed me but now he's asking my race?!? I don't think I will ever come back to this place after having such a horrible experience. For those who want to try this place or want to take to go, you've been warned! 11-15-15: I recently moved more north of Atlanta and randomly found this place for my daily Chinese food fix. How has it taken me so long to try this location? It's probably b/c I've been to the Buford Hwy location many times, and while it fulfills the Cantonese food craving, it didn't blow me away with food quality or with their hole in the wall location. This location however is swanky by comparison...more spacious and comfortable sitdown seating, and with a more extensive menu. I seriously wanted to order everything on the menu, having instant menu remorse after ordering noodles, when I saw an entree of black bean sautéed clams go to another table. But my chow fun noodles were delicious with good "wok hay", and came as a gigantic portion (I could only eat half). I also ordered some honey BBQ pork to go, as I couldn't pass up the gorgeous looking BBQ hanging at the back of the restaurant. Great value, as most dished ring in around $7-9, with seafood dishes being slightly more around $10-12. Can't wait to come back to try every rice plate, the duck, the congee, and the wontons! If I didn't want everyone staring at me, I would order them all to taste them, and bring the leftovers home. Cons: -It's the same price as the original Ming, however you only get one meat per plate. -The only bad part is, the bok choy did not have any leaf on it. I was given the thick stem part of the bok choy. I guess they ran out and gave me left overs. - No condiments, no soy suace was in my bag. Pros: - I order the soy sauce chicken with white rice..It was really good, tender, juicy, flavorful. - They open til 12 AM - The dine-in is a little bit upscale from the original Ming's. Ming's BBQ is my go-to place for Chinese food, though it comes with a few more asterisks than most places I would give a four star rating... I definitely recommend having Ming's for LUNCH and NOT dinner. From my many adventures to Ming's BBQ, I've found that my experience with Ming's for lunch has been miles better than for dinner, not just with service, but the quality of the food seems to be better also. Why, you ask? I'm not sure, I can only make assumptions, that's just what I've found. Since restricting myself to only getting Ming's when it is around lunch time, I've had generally no issues with service and food quality. I'm hesitant to say this will pan out for everyone the same way, this is just based on personal experience. That aside, I absolutely love the food. I usually get the crispy pork with rice and my girlfriend likes the BBQ pork. If I go with a bigger group, we usually order food for the table to share. This, of course, includes the different BBQ meat, but also a side of vegetables (usually snow pea leaves, I think) and clams in black bean sauce. The service can definitely be improved, even for lunch, as I feel like the servers can be pretty neglectful, even when it isn't busy. So long as I get the food in a timely manner and the servers aren't rude, I don't really mind too much, though that is also a fairly low bar already.
