Pleasant BBQ Garden is a casual eatery that serves Chinese pork, duck, and chicken over rice with cabbage. I had heard this was the place for that kind of food. It is a very simple spot with an in and out atmosphere: place an order and leave. There is barely any seating available, but it would look weird sitting and eating there. I found the service to be curt, polite, and quick, like other Chinese BBQ spots I grew up going to. I was craving traditional Lunar New Year food so I came here and ordered the Roasted Pork over Rice. I thought the price was not too bad considering the portion size was fairly hefty (obviously not as cheap as the prices in NYC). The roasted pork was seasoned well! I did not feel the need to add soy sauce like I usually do. Some parts of the skin were crispy, but other parts were a bit more rubbery so I wish the crispiness was more consistent because the meat was tasty. I was also given a small container of chili oil which did not taste spicy at all, but was a nice supplement to add to the overall dish. Overall, I think this is a nice place to grab some budget friendly Chinese roast pork. I definitely want to explore other places, but I feel good recommending this spot for someone visiting Metro Atlanta. read more

Very good Chinese BBQ! We ordered takeout and got several different types of meats to try including the soy sauce chicken, honey bbq pork, and roast duck. All the meats were tender and flavorful while not too salty. The only negative I would give is that there is virtually no seating available if you wanted to eat inside the restaurant. Options for good Chinese food in Atlanta is limited, but one of my recent favorites is from Pleasant BBQ Garden. While there are some good spots in Atlanta for Chinese barbecue meats like Hong Kong Barbecue in Atlanta Chinatown, other places have gone downhill, whether it's in food quality or in service. We came during off hours and it was still pretty full inside (PRE COVID) - however there was a seat for us! We ordered the roast duck leg over rice ($0.50 more than the regular roast duck over rice) and the beef chow fun. Roast duck was on point - meat was tender and the juices flavored the rice it rested on. The beef chow fun was pretty standard - just greasy enough! I didn't prefer the ratio of bean sprouts to other ingredients (even though I love bean sprouts, generally). Overall, a tasty Chinese bbq spot that I'll need to stop by soon to try their wonton mee. I used to come here quite a bit. Then last week, it was a disaster with their dishes. The snow pea leaves veggie dish was decent. The chicken casserole dish with mushrooms were filled mostly with bones and very little chicken. It was not an edible dish for a customer sitting at the table. They need to up their quality. It was not a busy evening but that dish will not bring me back anytime soon. We ordered a wonton soup and the wontons were rubbery tasting. What happened? Patrons were too generous with their stars? Only disadvantage of this place is it's really tiny so if there's a lunch rush on the weekends, may have to wait. This cute tiny place reminds me of all the cha chaan teng in HK with its decor. This restaurant has become my family's go-to for Chinese bbq, especially the roast duck. I love the duck here. It it bigger and meatier than the local standard. The best part? They are very well marinated so every piece is flavorful. Oh! And the skin is nice and crispy. The prices here are a bit lower than Ming's down the street. After tax, the Beef Chow Fun was $9.01 compared to the $10+ down the street. Visually, the dosh here isn't as nice but that's because they use less oil. Unfortunately, the noodles aren't whole, a lot of them are broken due to overcooking. It's ok though because the flavor is still great and I feel a little less pudgy eating it since the fish lacks that "glistening shine" that screams "oil overload!" The one complaint I have: I've been here on multiple occasions for wonton noodle soup and it takes FOREVER to make. It's taken anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. While looking for a true Cantonese style restaurant after my favorite closed down, i was recommended to try out this place by the infamous Daniel B.This wonderful hidden gem is something you'd drive by and not even realize it was there. It it sandwiched in a strip mall, however if you walked by the establishment, you're mouth will start to water when you see the Char Siu (Chinese pork) and the chinese pig hanging in the windows. I Typically rate a restaurant first by the quality of the meat if they are hanging their meats from the window, and this was a definite plus to even enter the restaurant. The restaurant inside is very small (very comparable to the hole in the wall restaurants you find in Flushing, NY). The small tables are cozy and they have enough room to accommodate small parties. The portions that they offer are quite plentiful, including the Chinese signature lunch deals of rice, napa and 1-3 different meals. The full meals are even better because if you want something that is not on the menu, and can speak chinese, they will serve it to you! My wife and I ordered "hop to ha", which is a deep fried jumbo shrimp dish with a sweet mayo (condensed milk, egg whites and sugar) which is normally poured on top, but we put it on the side so the shrimp doesn't get soggy. Around it are Pecan halves and broccoli. We also ordered Ginto Quant (fried pork chop in a spicy red sauce). They have many different fish options including a fried flounder, or if you want the healthier approach, a steamed flounder where they take all of the meat off the bones for you and serve it that way. Overall, the flavors are right on, and the location is very convenient. Plenty of parking and rarely any wait. This is our new go-to place for quality authentic Cantonese style food. read more

This place is located in busy plaza of Assi market, Smoothie King, Dollar Tree, etc on the busy street of Pleasant Hill. It's a small restaurant. Their menu lists tons of dishes. I've tried Peking duck and shrimp fried rice. The duck is so crazy good- very crispy on the outside and super tender and flavorful on the inside. I recommend it to anyone that loves duck. Ordered the two kind bbq with rice. $9. Duck had good seasoning, but flabby microwaved skin where a nice crunch was missing. The rice was perfect. The bbq pork was also microwaved with beautiful juices running out of the quickly drying meat. A spoonful of cabbage completes the plate. Service was absent, social media was more important. Other tables got soup with the same order as mine, but I did not. Maybe being a haole, gringo, or whatever Mandarin name fits didn't help. Portions of meat were 40% less than expected. This store is quite small but has a good menu with a lot to offer. They have BBQ to noodle soup to rice casseroles. From the dishes that I have tried so far, there isn't much flavor in the dishes offered here. Most of the food taste good but not very good, ok but not the best, it was just alright. I have tried 2 different flavors of the rice casseroles. Both were quite good and were served nicely in a clay bowl where they were cooked in. The ratio of rice to meat was a good amount. However, the both times I've tried this dish, they tasted a little plain and flavorless. They come with a sauce similar to soy sauce which helps with the flavor a little but not enough. The meat has flavor in it but no sauce to mix into the rice. Overall the rice casseroles were pretty good, just a little bland. I've also had the Wonton noodle soup. The wontons had shrimp and I think pork in it. It didn't taste very good. The meat had a rubbery texture and a weird taste that I can't describe, maybe bitter? The noodles were pretty good but nothing special. They taste like the kind of thin egg noodles found in most Asian grocery stores. The overall dish, again, didn't have a lot of favor. Adding more salt and vinegar to taste helps it out. It didn't taste very bad, just not the best. read more

First of all, their duck was a step better than most other Chinese restaurants in the area. Although portion is smaller for their half size, it was considerably good. We also threw in the pork bbq. Now this was definitely better than your Ming's BBQ pork and Great Wall's. We got several other common Chinese food like crispy noodles with seafood. This one taste mediocre nothing special. But the mini fish with tofu hot pot. Oh boy, this was definitely the one that made us want to come back here for next time along with the pork with salted egg yolk. Coming from a Cantonese family background, I am writing this review from that perspective rather than that of my nationality: American. It was only natural that my family found out about this hidden gem through word of mouth and local Asian newspapers. Growing up in the suburbs of metro Atlanta, my family and I have tried a plethora of Asian BBQ places. I am glad to say that this blew the rest out of the water. As with most Asian cuisine, it's either a hit or a miss. It just so happens that the style of cuisine that they offer matches with mine. First and foremost, the place is a BBQ place. Basically Cantonese street food. Curiously, though, they sell out of their BBQ very fast. Normally by dinner time, the roasted pork, BBQ pork, and soy sauce chicken are out of stock. One would think that the owners, former Flushing NYC natives (the epitome of Chinatowns), would understand stock. Yet, these shortages are likely due to the quality of meats which surpassed all my expectations, even reminding me of the meats in China. Every dish beyond the meats that I have tried so far has been off the charts. The rice casseroles are all exceptionally good, especially when compared to similar restaurants in the area. In addition, the waiters suggest a new favorite every time, whether it is a new noodle dish, fish stir fry, or anything in between. And the prices, are all reasonable. So from a Cantonese background, there's no doubt in my mind that this place is 5/5. I'm glad the family decided to take their talents down here. From an American perspective, maybe not so much. The outside kitchen with the BBQ nearly takes up 1/4 of the whole dining room. The constant conversations amongst the staff and families are all symbolic of Chinese cuisine but are far cries from American dining, where even most burger joints have dimmed lights. read more

When we heard about this new BBQ place, we thought we'll give it a try. We were not disappointed. We ordered a nice sampling of their meats. We ordered the ginger chicken, crispy pork, roasted duck, and char siu. Each one was very flavorful, juicy, and tender. The skin on the crispy pork was crunchy and tasty. My parents are from China and they have tried authentic Chinese BBQ before. They said their meats were one of the best ones that they have eaten. The prices are also reasonable compared to the other BBQ places. Whole duck costs $22.99, crispy pork costs $10.50/lb, whole ginger chicken costs $17.49, and char siu costs $9.99/lb.
