This location is not like the OG location in Roswell. There weren't but maybe five customers in the place It took forever to get our food and we waited forever for refills for the meal once it arrived. You can find Dreamland BBQ at 3540 W Lawrenceville St Duluth, GA 30096. This is in the heart of the a shopping/restaurant complex at the intersection of Main Street and Lawrenceville Street, bound by Hill Street towards the rear. Dreamland faces the back towards Abbots Bridge Road, there's a large parking lot out front but good luck finding parking there, especially on busy weekends. I recommend going around the corner and parking in front of Coleman Middle School across the street (when school is out of session like on weekends). Otherwise I'd time my visits to off-hours and during the week day. Where to begin with this one? I was a frequent visitor to the Dreamland BBQ that occupied a free-standing building on Peachtree Parkway, just south east of the Forum. From what I remember that building had a fire and I believe that this location is where the restaurant ended up. To start, this is a massive space with high ceilings, a large bar and plenty of seating - very different from the cozy confines of the original location. We attended the exceptional Le Bon fest held by Goodword Brewing nearby and being ready for something more substantial than a few oysters, we ended up at Dreamland. It took a while to be seated as there wasn't anyone out front - there was one booth already seated in an otherwise empty restaurant, so it could be our timing wasn't the best. We ended up being seated at the bar and our server was delightful, super nice and personable. When I went to the restroom to wash my hands, as soon as I touched the single sink valve, water geysered into the air about 4 feet. The other sink wasn't working at all. Anyway I managed, and also reported what was happening as there really wasn't a way to turn it off. My friend Ken ordered the roasted chicken with a double side of green beans. I ordered the half-slab and deferred ordering any sides as from experience, 6 bones tend to be a lot of meat. What I received was something of a joke - the bones were tiny and hardly had any meat on them filling about half the basket. Now I understand that sometimes getting the smaller side of a rack, you end up with less food, but this was somewhat ridiculous. It's been a long time since I've left a BBQ place hungry, but there it is. If the service had been bad I probably would have left a 1 star review, but I'll give the place the benefit of the doubt. I think cheese fries are the greatest but with barbecue chicken and sauce they are a dream in this land. One thing I have to mention is the service. This young lady greeted guests as they arrived in the door with the most pleasant disposition that I have ever seen, and I will tell you why she was so fantastic in a minute. We were promptly seated as she politely asked us to please be patient with her as she was THE only one working that evening. This young woman was the greeter, the server, the bartender, the food runner, and the bus boy. She did it all with a gracious attitude that I have ever seen one person muster. Although it was a Wednesday night, there were a few people inside and it could have been a task that quickly became overwhelming, but it did not for her. Kuddos to this young lady! Food has gone from epic genuine to regular BBQ. The big dude that started it has left the building. Sides are decent, including banana pudding, however the Brunswick Stew doesn't have much sing - more like veggie soup. Service is hit or miss - fortunately it was nice on our most recent visit. They switched from Pepsi to Coke which for some is a disappointment. They do have beer on tap and bottles. read more

Ate here with our son visiting Duluth on business. He was craving BBQ since he lives in Oregon. The really good was our waiter Jordon. He was friendly and provided the best service. The food was average at best. We started with drinks and the ordered a fried okra starter. It was a bit overcooked. I ordered the pork platter which was ok. My son ordered the big baked potato covered in pork, sauce, and cheese. He liked it but felt it needed more meat for the price. My wife loved smoked wings so that is what she went with. Let me first say, our server was wonderful and so kind, but she was wildly understaffed and basically working alone. Beers didn't come out until the food came out. It's was also awkwardly quiet for a weekend night and without music. Personally my food was fine. I got the chicken plate with mac and cheese + bbq beans. Everything was fine, but nothing to rave about. They did have kids meals and even my picky eater found food there. The main problem was my spouse's ribs smelled like rotten fish. You don't want to google why ribs smell like that after you've already eaten a bite or two. We're praying everyone that tried them is ok. Will report back on that. Went here with a few friends at got sat mostly right away on a Saturday. Staff seemed super night and we got our food kind of quick! Food was amazing and pretty cheap! Bathroom was pretty clean. The only down sides to our experience was the water didn't auto turn off and we were unsure how to turn it off in the bathroom. You just push down to turn on and I assume it's suppose to pop back up but my friend went in a little after me and the water I turned on was still running. And it seemed like our waiter kind of ignored us after getting our order, needed a refill and didn't see her until the end so had to ask another waiter. We came here for a pregame meal before the Georgia Tennessee game. Our waitress was very good and cordial. The ambiance here is bbq casual with nice tables and booths. There is a plethora of pics on the walls from southern culture and neon. There is a full bar with a good draft beer selection if you're into that. Underwhelmed was a word invented specifically for this dinner experience I think. I'll start off with - The staff here was great. They get full points, this review does not reflect on them at all. Went in on a Friday night to find this place completely empty, should have been the first sign - especially when every other place was packed. BUT like everyone else here who's reading this review, we were lured in by the smells. Not sure what those smells are from, but they weren't from what we ordered. I got a rib sandwich - which ended up being a boneless rip wrap thing? Not what I was expecting at all - but it just wasn't tasty? The slaw was okay, the meat - cold and tough, wasn't enjoyable. The fries were the best part honestly. My partner got the tips & chips - which the tips were also tough and cold, and so were the chips. They were also just flavorless. It wasn't enjoyable at all. The peach cobbler was okay but that's it. It's a shame since this is one of the only (southern) bbq resturants in the city; but they're severely lacking on what I'd expect from a bbq restaurant. Someone in management needs to actually read these reviews. Not sure why we continue to show up here since nothing has improved. No one in sight upon arrival, maybe 10 people seated. Seriously no one at the hostess station, the bar, the pit or servers at 1:00 on a Sunday. Hostess (I assume) finally appeared and sat us & another couple & let us know that our server would soon be with us. Meanwhile she took drink and food order for couple behind us & our server (very nice but clearly overwhelmed) showed up. Probably 15 minutes for drinks to arrive, then waited on the promised lemons for our tea. Finally ordered 2 apps & a slab to go. Brunswick stew was to supposed to be a bowl & came out as a cup - questioned it & was told that was a bowl only to correct himself & take it back to the kitchen... another wait. Food was good but the customer service experience was lacking. This trend was repeated at every table. The best I can say is that the food was adequate. When we walked in, we stood for several minutes with no employee in sight. Once we were seated and had placed our order, the food came out fairly quickly. However, the ribs were mostly charcoal, the chicken wraps were bland, and the chopped pork was dry. Used to eat at the Tuscaloosa original all of the time. When I come to Atlanta to see my dad, I usually get takout from here. I pay as all of my relatives have the dinesour disease (short arms when reaching for their wallets). In short, check your to go order as I was shorted my $18 quart of brunswick stew. Fried okra app is excellent, with or without the dipping sauce. Sausage app is so tasty. One link is huge, can be easily shared. 2 of us split the rib plate and we still had a couple ribs left over. The ribs were pretty good, the sauce is very tasty. The house white wine was not very good. I don't know what it was, served in a plastic solo cup, but it was the only option. I know this is not Napa, but it would have been nice to have something that didn't taste like it came out of a box. read more

Stop by this place on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly crowded. Great service here but unfortunately thats where my good experience ended. The menu is pretty specific just pork and chicken and while thats fine, typically you would see brisket on a bbq menu as well. People in my party did not eat pork so this limited them to about 20% of the menu being that even the baked beans and string beans are cooked with pork. Definitely not a vegetarian, vegan or dietary friendly spot. On top of that the only beef item they had on the menu there was no more left- the bbq burger. We all opted for the chicken and the 1/2 plate was good but the bbq chicken was weak. Small portion of chicken, came out dry with no sauce on top just looked really unappealing. To top it off this is not a black owned restaurant and it doesn't have to be but when you have the original founder plastered throughout every inch of the restaurant with his story and family literally on every corner you turn and said founder and his family have nothing to do with the place over 50 years later...seems fraudulent and misleading. It is sad as before the pandemic I'd have given a 5 star on all accounts service, food etc. Since then the ribs are always over cooked, the food is either just cold or room temperature if you're lucky. Waiters seem to have no idea how to tend t tables (sit for 10-15 minutes with an empty drink & they just don't care, don't apologize for making you wait etc and they'd only have three tables as that is all that was in there the last time we went the other two times since the pandemic same bad service and food. My family and I did a call-in order and we picked up the food. I haven't had Dreamland in over 7 years, so since we used to always go to the one in Roswell, we decided to come to this location. My son, and I ordered the rib dinner. You receive 4 bones, which is a lot for me. :-) My sides were potato salad and baked beans. My son's sides were named beans and Mac and cheese. Went there last night 3/1/25. They were not too busy inside compared to the amount of people outside in the area should have been a tip off. Took over an hour to get our food, appetizer, after I asked about it, came out 5 minutes before food, fried okra which was somewhat under cooked. House made chips on the other hand was well overcooked to the point of basically burned. Baked beans tasted just like out of the can. Meats were okay at best, much better BBQ in the area.
