I was pleasantly surprised by this new KBBQ spot. The atmosphere was great right when we walked in--the interior was nice, and the music was at just the right volume so we could actually hear each other. It's such a relief to go somewhere where you don't have to shout while eating, like at some other places. What really stood out was the rack they place on the grill for the cooked meat. I've only seen one other place do that, but I honestly think everyone should do it. Most places transfer the cooked meat to a plate, and as someone who eats a bit slower, I don't like how the meat gets cold so quickly and doesn't taste as good. Keeping it on a rack on the grill solves that problem without letting it burn, which is genius. The quality of the meat was great--none of that weird meaty smell you sometimes get at other spots with the non-marinated cuts. The side dishes were all solid, but I especially loved the pickled radish and jalapeños. The soybean paste soup was another highlight because they put brisket in it. A lot of places tend to go heavy on the anchovies, giving the soup a strong fishy flavor, but theirs didn't have that problem. I must mention that the service was excellent. Everyone was really friendly and attentive, and a special shout-out to Isaac, our main server--he was fantastic! I like how they also offer regular dishes that aren't BBQ, so we'll definitely have to go back to try some of those.

The food truck arrived and they set up quickly and efficiently. Yes, you could smell the wonderful grill going and the food did not disappoint. We had the bone-in chicken and pulled pork and it was tender and good! We had mac n chees, baked beans and brunswick stew, as our sides and they were also delish! Edee himself, was out at our event and he was kind, pleasant and efficient. (BTW, thank you for your service ~ Semper Fi!). His crew "D" and Tammy were pleasant and just wonderful to work with. We plan to use them again for another event. Thank you for the great food and great service!!!!

Welp, Yelp. This is an ordinary, at best, barbecue stand. We finally got to try them today and…read morebefore I blather on, I will say, I don't know if we'll bother them again. We definitely won't use it as a destination type barbecue purveyor. And they're in the neighborhood. The quality of the food is good. The method they use to quantify the amount of food they present you is sorry, at best. The customer service was bland, borderline....sullen. Maybe, they were having a bad day. And I spent almost $100 for a selection of items. The easiest way for me to present our experience is through pros and cons. And here we go.... PROS: 1. Some of the best chopped pork, we've ever had. It was the perfect blend of fat to lean, moist, smokey and no cartilage, gristle or bone. 2. The ribs were fairly meaty, cooked very well and slightly smokey. You could see a definite smoke line. The seasoning was decent. 3. The Brunswick Stew had discernable components. It didn't look like a can of mushed up dog food with corn kernels in it. I usually don't care for Brunswick Stew, but I liked this. It is fairly spicey. I liked that. 4. The hot barbecue sauce was much better than the regular. It still tasted like anything you can grab off a shelf at the store. CONS: 1. Questionable way they decide what is a serving size. I paid TWENTY DOLLARS for 3/4 of a Styrofoam lunch box of chopped pork. I'm trying to post a picture. They were verrrry evasive when asked to quantify by weight, the amount of meat that you receive. Evasive....almost indignant. I wonder if this varies from customer to customer. 2. I've never, in decades, been to a barbecue joint where the cooks so purposefully and diligently AVOIDED talking with the customers. I'm a very gregarious type and these people just would not talk to me. And they weren't busy. I felt like I was an annoyance the whole time I was dropping a C note there. 3. The Cole Slaw was little more than pre-packaged, shredded cabbages and carrots, doused in sugar water. The container was barely 3/4 full. Now that I think of it........we won't be going back. They need to work on customer interaction and actually sell you their product based on genuine weights and measurements.

We were happy to find out that the lunch menu applies on the weekends too! $24.99 for lunch and $29.99 for dinner. You can opt for the dinner menu if you want more beef options. Since it was our first visit, we stuck with the lunch and it was more than enough for us. Some of the meats we ordered: - Beef Brisket - Beef Bulgogi - Spicy Beef Bulgogi - Pork Belly - Spicy Pork Belly I enjoyed the beef brisket and pork belly the most. Banchan offered are japchae, corn cheese, kimchi, sesame broccoli, pickled radishes, egg soufflé and rice. Japchae, sesame broccoli and egg soufflé was tasty. I wasn't a fan of the corn cheese as it came out in these little aluminum cups with cheese on top and it's left on the grill until the cheese melts. The service is good. You cook the meat yourselves here, but our server came around to take our orders and change the grills pretty often. 985 also offers a ramen bar for an additional cost at the center of the restaurant. They have a ton of ramen options for you to choose from and various toppings to add a la carte. Overall, it's a decent AYCE KBBQ at a good value. Nowadays, $25 AYCE KBBQ spots are rare and for that price point, I'd consider this a 3.5 rounded up to 4 star.

Seating is very close and intimate and nice music is playing in the background. At first glance it seemed like a place you would want to come back to again and again. The waitress/cashier was very welcoming upon our entrance. I don't know if she was one of the owners but she was very nice and apologetic. We drove 30 minutes to try out this restaurant and let's just say it was not worth the drive. Since it was our first time there we were excited to try some of the ribs. Unfortunately they were out of the pork ribs. They were also out of the mac and cheese. That was a little disappointing but I figured because we got there around 7 and they close at 8 they could have run out of items. No biggie. We opted to get the fried chicken with fries and fried mushrooms. I got the pulled pork sandwich with onion rings, and a lemonade. The lemonade was perfect, to me it wasn't too sweet and had just enough tartness to make you want to drink more. Presentation was EVERYTHING. When the sandwich came out I wasn't even sure how to eat it lol. It looked great on the wooded plate. I wish the plates would have been bigger because the sandwich was a little sloppy, nonetheless it was presented very classy. The bowl that the onion rings came in was also wood and it was cute and different. I have not seen dishes like this before. The chicken was on one of the wooded classy plates a little small for the chicken but cute as well. Now here is the part where I had to deduct stars. The chicken was fried perfectly, it was juicy, crispy and hot. The only thing that was missing was the seasoning. It was very bland there was absolutely no salt or pepper or any flavoring that I could taste on the chicken. I just knew we couldn't go wrong with the chicken because after all it is a bbq spot right? Wrong..maybe because it was late they were just trying to get the food out so they could go home. But whatever the case it was not good. We did not have any bbq sauce or hot sauce. It wasn't offered and we didn't ask. Same thing with the fried mushrooms. The coating did not have any flavor and we did not have any dipping sauce. Again we didn't ask and it wasn't offered. The waitress did provide ketchup with both meals, but I feel like something was off with the flavoring. The onion rings were good and the steak fries were good. I would not drive that distance just for those items. One couple at a table next to ours had something that looked like fish or very large chicken tenders. Either way hers did look good but I wondered if it had any flavor. Hers was plain, no sauce or anything like that. I did see she had something to dip the food in and it looked like she enjoyed it. As I mentioned previously it is a very cosy atmosphere. It was very humid inside though and the sunlight was beaming in hard. The waitress tried to close the curtains but that didn't help much because the curtains were kind of see-through so the sun still hit us hard in the face and back, and again because it was so late maybe they had turned down the a/c. The waitress did apologize but basically there was nothing she could do about that. They do have a rewards program that you can sign up for to aquire points and discounts on things but I wasted time signing up because I will not be returning. I was so excited to have a new bbq place to frequent but unfortunately this will not be the one. To end on a positive note, the presentation was everything and the environment was very inviting.

It was so delicious and you can tell they really season their food and cook their food with love. The ambience was gorgeous and felt so cozy. I definitely am coming back to this restaurant.

My meal totaled about $25 which I thought was fair for a large dinner and a side of Mac and cheese. The portions were hearty which was a plus! The ribs were really good, mildly spicy with a smoked flavor! Came with four full bones. Sauce on the side was good as well, I'd definitely order again. 8.5/10 for ribs I was NOT a fan of the rice and peas, they were different than what I'm used to and seriously lacked flavor, not authentic at all. 5/10 because the texture was at least good. Cabbage was fine, nothing to write home about. It wasn't mushy or anything but slightly overcooked and also lacked flavor. 5/10 The Mac and cheese tasted better than it looked in my opinion lol I was expecting a solid, possibly baked mac and cheese but theirs is extremely soupy and heavily seasoned (garlic taste is strong). I received a great sized for $6.25 so no complaint there. I'd rate the Mac 7/10. I'd order again but I'd probably swap the rice for Mac instead which I believe is only a $2.50 Upcharge I will return to try the jerk chicken! Overall, I liked the food I just didn't LOVE it. Amazing Customer Experience to match their Amazing Food!…read more If you are in need of a food truck for your event, look no further! We were having a huge outdoor party for my husband's 50th birthday and we had invited over 100 people and we really wanted a food truck where not only the adults would love the food but also not too eccentric where it could please the kids too. I spent a lot of time throughout a week scouring the internet for a food truck that I felt could fit our needs. I found the menus for private parties too restricting and it was starting to feel I wouldn't be able to find the kind of menu I wanted. A friend of mine whose neighborhood has a lot of block parties and hires food trucks often suggested Soul Truckin Good. She said that out of all the trucks, that was the most raved about and pleased the masses. I had called a few already and felt discouraged with the limited menu for private parties. I might have liked this and that but maybe they couldn't do this and that together. I felt a little like Goldilocks and the Three Bears trying to find a menu I felt excited about. With the party being combined with our annual St. Patty's Day party I knew the drinks would be flowing and I wanted to make sure the food was yummy, hearty and filling for a one time guest visit to the truck. So I called Soul Truckin Good, and Jei answered the phone. She has the perfect amount of professionalism, kindness AND understanding when talking things over. The way she described the menu was very easy to understand and I felt like we had great main dish and side dish choices to work with. There was one additional side I wanted even though it ventured outside of the A, B, C type of menu. She wanted to make sure we were happy and she was happy to work with me to make sure we had the menu we wanted. By the end of the process, I felt like I was talking to my friend rather than a stranger. The party was growing by the day. And she talked me through everything regarding the number of people and how much to order, like a pro. Sometimes I felt like she was my therapist, lol, because of the concern I had with making sure everyone would get fed. When you have an Evite for a big party and even if you set a deadline for RSVPs, you will always have those friends that say, oh I forgot...is it too late? Or I know I initially said it was just 2 of us but now it will be all 5, yada yada yada. So we came up with a plan that I felt comfortable with. And not to forget about the food or the guest happiness- the day of the party gets here and the food truck was a huge success. Everyone loved the food. Everything went smoothly, truck was here on-time (even early). They make sure to plan with time cushions to get to their commitments with plenty of time. And there was a line at the end as our time was coming to a close and they stayed until the last person received their order. Can't assume that will always be the case but I was their last commitment that day. Just goes to show they care about the experience and not just the dollar. I don't think there are a lot of business owners out there that care as much about making your experience the best it can be. But I can say without a doubt that Soul Truckin Good is one of them!
