The worst experience at a restaurant I have ever had. The hostess was the rudest person I have ever encounter. I was meeting a friend for dinner as he suggested this place for duck but he was running late. I walked in and waited to be seated but no one even helped me - after standing there for 5 minutes I sat down and waited. Then an asian couple walks in and is quickly seated at a table. I walked up to the register and asked if I could be seated and the women turns away and points at menus. I asked again to be seated at a table and she again turns her back to me and points at table and does not give me any menus. I got up and left immediately as I was so offended. I guess it's time for an updated review. The thing that really got me to update my review was the duck and crispy pork rice dish (double BBQ combo on rice). That thing was simply amazing. I (or rather I tell the significant other) usually wouldn't get a rice dish bc I feel like it's too simplistic and boring, but I was totally wrong about how tasty it was. There were so many flavors. The broken rice was good too, and it's rice -- lol. The wonton soup (which you can add noodles to it) was just okay. The broth needed additional flavoring. Plus, it may seem that with the addition of noodles, it's in lieu of 2 wontons (yes, I counted bc I was curious). The wontons were just okay too. I sort of didn't like tasting something crunchy. I guess it was onions or something, but that texture surprised me. Ming's BBQ seem to be in a frantic when closing time rolls around. Already gave this place 5 stars but wanted to give it another 5 stars because I recently came back and tried more dishes. The tofu pot with very soft egg tofu and meat is SOOO gooood. We got some food for carry-out tonight for dinner. We got the roasted duck, roasted chicken, bbq pork, beef chow fun, intestines and vegetables. Everything was so good. The intestines were a little too smelly for me. I couldn't eat it but my family did and thought that it was good. My favorite is the honey bbq pork. I always wonder why the bok choy is not cut into smaller pieces but instead the bunch was only cut in half. We really enjoyed the food that we ordered. It was my first time having dinner at this restaurant. We shared the 9 dishes between 7 adults, 2 kids, and a toddler, like a family dinner. We ordered mostly veggies and tofu, along with roast pork and garlic chicken. Everything tasted very nice and fresh. The roast pork was one of our favorites. This Ming's is closer to my house than the one on Buford hwy. This place is my go to for roasted whole duck, but the last time I went was a bit of a disappointment. I got whole duck and honey pork, but the duck was dry and bony. I hope the ducks aren't starving because of this pandemic. I love the chili oil they make, and most of my visits here have been pretty good so I'll try it again sometime soon. They don't do curbside, but they don't allow dine in and just do take out. I've traveled a lot and every where that I've had the Walnut Shrimp.. I can honestly say Ming's still has one of the best!!! From here to Cali to Hong Kong.. Mings got that! They took salt n pepper duck tongue off the menu *rolls eyes* and replaced it with salt n pepper soft shell crab. It's a grease ball but still good. I miss that tongue tho!!! Ming's BBQ Duluth is the newer, nicer, and cleaner version of the original Ming's BBQ in Asian Square on Buford Highway. Whereas Ming's on Buford Highway is more of a hole-in-the-wall take-out joint, Ming's Duluth looks more like a traditional Chinese restaurant. It's much bigger with round family-style tables and cushioned seating along the walls. The back of the restaurant has aquariums with fish and lobster along with the customary Chinese display case with hanging roast ducks and pigs. The space is wide open and there are a few TVs too. While the Duluth location is fancier, the menu is about the same -- affordable Hong Kong and Cantonese-style foods. The combination of price point, fast service, casual environment, and tasty eats is what makes Ming's a big draw. Everything on the menu, except for the seafood, is under $10. Keep in mind this restaurant focuses on authentic "street" food and most definitely should not be compared to any Americanized Chinese fast food or take-out joints. Highlights and recommendations include their honey-roasted BBQ pork and duck, congee (rice porridge), noodles (specifically, their dry beef chow fun and the Singapore noodles), and noodle soups. They also serve one of my favorite Chinese vegetables: snow pea tips. The rice plates are always a good option if you're on-the-go. For $7-8, you can get a filling plate of meats and vegetables over white rice. Both the duck and pork are savory and you can't go wrong with either one. They pack a lot of flavor into each bite. The way the meats are roasted leaves the outer edges appetizingly crispy. They're skimpy on the veggies and I wish they gave more. Overall though, I'm not complaining. The dry beef chow fun is very good. One order can easily be split among two people. Beef chow fun consists of wide rice noodles stir-fried with slices of beef, scallions, onions, and bean sprouts. Sometimes, the slices of beef can be rubbery, but Ming's version seems fresh enough. It's a very flavorful and intense dish as is the Singapore noodles, though the two dishes are completely different. The Singapore noodles are made with thin rice vermicelli noodles and there is more of a curry flavor to them. Either noodle dish, you can't go wrong. The noodle soups are underrated. Just like Vietnamese pho or Japanese ramen, Hong Kong has their own style of noodle soups as well. I suggest the roast duck or BBQ pork noodle soups. These soups also come with green veggies. The noodles are made from egg and are a little bit chewy, which is one reason why I think they're good. Ming's is adequately staffed so service is fast and efficient. While the food probably isn't going to blow you away, you should think of this place as more of a reliable standby for affordable Cantonese comfort food. I love the Ming's on Buford Hwy so I had no doubt this one would be just as good - and the nicer "restaurant" setting (vs. "dive" on Buford Hwy) turned out to be a great choice for celebrating a friend's birthday. We did family-style dining and ordered 5 dishes for 6 people which turned out to be just the right amount of food. BASIL-INFUSED CLAMS ($11.99) - Yelp reviews raved about the clams so the only decision we had to make was basil-infused or black bean clams. I did my usual "let's ask our server" and we got the basil-infused clams :) Very tasty, esp. the sauce which everyone was mixing with their rice. One of the group favorites! SEAFOOD TOFU HOT POT ($11.99) - also got this dish b/c it was a Yelp favorite. Generous portion of tofu, shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, imitation crab, & vegetables. I loved the tofu. i thought the overall dish was a little bland (esp. compared to our other dishes) - my friend quickly resolved that problem by adding chili sauce so she enjoyed it a lot. DRY BEEF CHOW FUN ($7.79) - agreed with Yelp reviews that the chow fun was just ok. Disappointed considering I think the beef chow fun in the original Ming's is the best in Atlanta. CHICKEN W/ BLACK BEAN SAUCE ($7.49) - I think anything in black bean sauce is delicious and this dish was no exception. Yum. KING OYSTER MUSHROOMS W/ FLANK STEAK ($12.99) - so glad we went with our server's recommendation. He said this was his favorite dish. And other than the clams, this was our other group favorite. The marinade sauce was delicious and I loved the mushrooms more than the steak! Mushrooms were very meaty - I could only eat them with my back teeth (I mean, I tried to bite into them with my front teeth and they were tough!). This dish also had the best presentation - but being novices, we realized too late that the crispy noodles weren't just for looks and didn't mix the noodles with the steak & mushrooms. We'll do it the right way next time b/c this is definitely something we'd order again. Next time I'm definitely trying the "BRAISED DUCK IN WOK", another server recommendation plus saw another table who ordered it and it looked really good. It looked really good in the menu photo album, too. But we didn't have duck fans in our party - so next time for sure, duck fans or not! Service was superb! Just so you locals know--- this restaurant is the closest thing that I have found to a Hong Kong style "cha chaan teng" or "cha chan tang," south of Virginia. Seriously, Atlanta people, you don't know how good you have it compared to other cities in The South. While Ming's is not a "teahouse" in the sense of the word, they do serve many traditional style cha café staples, such as baked dishes over rice and baked dishes over noodles. As well as, the traditional black milk teas, milk tea and coffee mix drinks, and cold lemon teas. The fried mantou buns and brick toast covered in condensed milk also gave them away. While most tangs just serve the casserole style foods, Ming's provides you with even more Hong Kong style delicious and tender barbeque options! I eat at Ming's once a month, sometimes more. I used to live in New York, grew up in the Midwest and lived in China (Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen), so I have plenty to compare Ming's with when it comes to superb Chinese cuisine. If you lived in or at least visited New York, you know and appreciate that your always find the finest BBQ Pork, Roasted Pork and Cuddle Fish in a local Cantonese restaurant that you can view hanging on the racks through the window. This is something that you will only find at Ming's here at their Duluth and Doraville locations. I am so happy that I discovered Ming's about 6 years ago, which was at their Doraville location. This location is much closer to my house. One thing that is good to know is that the family who runs this place is from HK, so they know Cantonese cuisine, this is not some fast food chain, this is a family place, the good old fashion way. My personal favourites here are the Peking Duck (slow roasted for almost a whole day), Honey Roasted BBQ Pork, Crispy Roasted Pork, Chinese Vegetables (Kai-lan) with Oyster Sauce, Cuttlefish and the delicious boba milk tea. Not sure about why so many people complain about the service. I never have any problem before and last night I stopped by around 10:30 pm (they close at 11 pm) and got served right away. After they brought all the food, they came back and check on us couple times making sure we were doing well. They didn't rush us at all even when they were ready to go home. You have no business even being in the same plaza as elite establishments, like Iron Age and Glam 104. As the calm and peaceful Will Smith stated, "At your highest moment, be careful, that's when the devil comes for you." Well, Mings BBQ Duluth, you're not even CLOSE to your highest moment! So no need worry about the devil coming anytime soon. TLDR - They had no crispy pork left (in the middle of the afternoon). They charged us $3 per bowl of rice, even though we ordered multiple meat entrees. They charged us $1 extra for a small saucer of green onions. Our group lightly joked about inflation after hearing these extra charges, and the waiter indirectly told us to buy/cook our own food if we didn't want to pay.
