I've been to Milo about 8 or 9 times - About 3 of those times it was really good. The other visits were terrible. Horribly slow service, inaccurate menu listings, complete lack of consistent oversight/management/organization, chicken served completely RAW (We only knew because we cut the chicken sandwich in half - If we would have just started eating it, we would have gotten so sick...) Milo has a super cute aesthetic, but as one of my friends so perfectly put it, it seems like a place that just exists for Instagram. Inside is cute, food looks really good, but most of the time is completely flavorless. I'm bummed because it's such an adorable place and when it's good, it's really good! Just really disappointed in their inconsistency and don't ever want to take friends or family from out of town there because you just never know what you're gonna get (delicious perfect pork and eggs, my favorite brunch dish they have? Or their famous fried chicken sandwich served completely raw - I mean, cold and pink and flubbery in the center?) One other thing to note that really bummed me out during one of our recent visits is while we were waiting almost an hour for our food (which is another thing Milo is known for, slow service), we were cut off by the bartender after just having TWO drinks. He literally wouldn't let us order any more. We weren't drunk college kids getting wasted at brunch. We were three young adults catching up over brunch and had each had two mimosas over the course of probably an hour and a half total. It's just such a mix of experiences, some really great, most pretty bad. The high ratings are disappointing so I felt like I should shed some light on the place through this review. Would hate visitors to base their thoughts on waco food off of a bad Milo experience. Don't fall for the pretty aesthetic trap! And if you have a bad experience, know there are plenty of other delicious places to try in town :) All that to say, my boyfriend and I will probably go back in the next couple of months. Really great options here! I love that Waco has a community food hall and is brining in different cuisines that Waco doesn't have. KoKo Ramen, Press Waffle, Huaco Eatery, Unshakable MilkShakes are a few of our Favorites for flavor and satisfaction. Captain Billy Wizbangs has a really great no frills burger, it's just a really, well cooked and seasoned, basic burger, which is hard to find! Sam's Bar making REALLY tasty cocktails, their mixologist is talented and the drinks are worth the moderate asking price! I also like that you can bring your food into their bar. The prices here are fair, IMO, but definitely a little higher than Waco is used too. There are several eateries that are still preparing their kitchens here so I'm excited to see all the different options that arrive. There are plenty of tables and the upstairs mezzanine is great for kids and full of art! Parking could be better but there's not much Union Hall can do about that. I'd also suggest they look at investing in some fountain machines with real cane sugar sodas and fresh flavored teas. They only have bottled Coke products here and I'm not a fan but I think adding in some great and unconventional drink options would be great. I'm so happy that Union Hall is open. Our family will continue to support their growth, I really hope to see some options from cultures that Waco doesn't have; Waco needs more variety! There's a little something for everyone here! Milo never disappoints! We arrived today for brunch and were told there was an hour+ wait. We spoke to the hostess, Emily, and she was very informative about bar seating options. Although there was not enough bar seats available we decided to leave due to a time crunch. Emily had a reservation cancelation and RAN out to the parking lot to let us know a table had just opened up. I came here on an impromptu little trip as my husband was working in the area. Since I had my dog with me, I could only go to dog friendly spots. We sat on the patio and they were very sweet to both me and Preston. I had the fried green tomato melt which was absolutely delicious! I also started with the brussels which was a perfect size for one person or two if you also shared another app. I also had the Two Weeks from anywhere and mimosa for drinks and they were both tasty! The manager came out to check in and also connected with my pup. Our server was great, knew the menu very well and took great care of us. The ambiance was great and the inside looked really cool as well. If we ever find ourselves back in Waco, I'll make sure my husband gets to check this place out as well! Good bloody mary. Good biscuits. Everything else was meh--no one loved anything and no hated anything. The music was so loud even our server couldn't hear us when taking our order. While they claim to be a from scratch kitchen the food came out entirely too fast to be made to order. I have a feeling everything is pre-prepped and put together as orders come in. We are Waco natives not tourists and wanted to try one of the restaurants in the exciting Downtown Waco district. We did enjoy our dinner. The Brussel sprouts and the Milo Old Fashioned were amazing! However, I was disappointed in the Steak Frites. The flavor profile was perfect but the cut of the steak was terrible. I think a skirt steak was used. It was stringy, not cut on the bias and tough even though it was cooked medium rare. My mother ordered the red snapper and loved her meal but was disappointed in the small portion she was given. In a land of mediocrity that is the Waco food scene there are but a few that stand above the rest... Milo is one of those few! Our brunch experience was fantastic. From the excellent service to the delicious coffee and Bloody Mary to the outstandingly delicious food, our first trip to Milo was eye opening to what could be possible here in Waco. Over the past few months we had driven by the location several times and thought, "We should stop in there and eat." While looking for brunch places last night I came across it and decided that Sunday brunch would be our chance. I am so glad we went. The Decor inside is bright and clean with a upscale feel to it. Not snobby but, modern. We were quickly seated and attended to by our waiter. The drinks took a bit longer than expected but they were perfectly crafted and tasty when they showed up. The coffee was also delicious... Everything on the menu is locally sourced and made in house and it shows. We had the biscuit French toast, the wrecking ball hot chicken biscuit, the eggs Benedict, and the pork shoulder steak and eggs. Everything came out hot and delicious. It looked fantastic and tasted that way as well. The portion size was perfect (I was not stuffed but not wishing I had more on my plate). The only concern is that it was not very kid friendly. That's not a bad thing (Now that our kids are able to stay home) but if you're looking for a kid menu or have picky eaters you may want to save Milo for a date night, brunch or another occasion. read more

I wanted to like this place, but left feeling disappointed. Let me start by saying that the aesthetic and decor of this place was amazing. The staff was very friendly. Our main problem was with the actual food. Firstly, when we given our food, one of the meals was missing. Our sever told us that his meal was grabbed by someone else and that they had to make a new batch for him. This made our friend wait until we were almost done eating before he got his own meal. Secondly, my own meal was not prepared well. I ordered the "Farmers Daughter." This meal had a base of sweet potatoes and cauliflower. Both of these vegetables were undercooked and hard to bite into. I asked for the meal to be sent back and opted for a simple eggs, potatoes and biscuit meal so it could come to me quickly. This time the server made a substitution without consulting me. She informed me that the breakfast potatoes were all gone and she gave me French fries instead. By this point, I was too hungry to wait and just kept it. The eggs were fine. These are the reasons that lead me to believe that this restaurant has a lot of work to do on their logistics. The food wasn't prepared properly, servers were taking wrong orders and making substitutions without asking the guest. Also, how does a brunch restaurant run out of breakfast potatoes by 10am on a Sunday? Again, logistics need to be looked into. read more

We had a reservation, but showed up half an hour early. They were accommodating and I made the mistake of asking for outdoor seating in this heat. It was quieter than indoors. There were a few people already out there so I thought the fans and shades would have been enough. Nope. Unless it is after 8pm in the summer...sit inside. The service was good and even let us move to a table a little less in the sun. I'd recommend they spray to repel flies because that was annoying outside. My family stopped here on our way to Rockport and we had a wonderful experience. Service: we were greeted and seated quickly. They did a wonderful job of keeping a great vibe in the restaurant even with COVID-19 restrictions. Our serve went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and engage in conversation. All service was timely. Food: our food was top notch. I got the brunch burger and my wife got the farmers daughter. We thought both were delicious. My wife thought her plate was a little light on the veggies but still good. As I read the reviews one of the biggest issues was people not feeling they got enough food for what they paid for. I have come to Milo around 8 times since it's opening in the summer of 2018. Every. Single. Time. The service has been questionable, however the atmosphere and food have always been able to balance it out. With that being said, my most recent visits have been so off-putting that I probably won't be coming back to a restaurant that was already merely 3 stars to begin with. Aside from their management that remains infamous in Waco, the waiters and waitresses are unprofessional and rude. On top of waiting nearly an hour to receive our check, and a waitress who was missing the entire meal, I have seen and heard them gossiping behind the bar about the tables they were servicing. There was a young woman in particular who repeatedly gathered groups of waiters around to "frustratedly" complain and whine about a girl she didn't like who had walked in. Subtle. I kept thinking the service would get better after they "worked their kinks out" but it's just not worth it anymore. If you want to have a nice brunch, save yourself the money & walk down the street to Barnett's instead. read more

I usually do not leave reviews for place, but I had to for Milo's! The place is awesome and they deserve every dollar you spend. Firstly, they had incredible customer service! Jessica did a great job of making sure we were taken care of and Andy, the manager, came up and talked to us for a while. Andy brought water for our dog and gave her some sweet pets as well. We got a bunch of food and we didn't regret getting anything that we ordered. We started with watermelon mint lemonade from a local Waco company and Milo's signature biscuits. Both items were so fresh and delicious. We ended up getting some biscuits for breakfast tomorrow! We ordered the lox toast, blueberry pancakes, bean hummus, corn ribs, and the Brussel sprout salad. Everything was in house made and delicious, unique ways. Not only did we have some amazing and fresh food, but also it came out really quickly! It is obvious that the Chef and cooks spend a lot of time perfecting their dishes. We went on Memorial Day and didn't realize they were closing early. They got us in and out in 40 minutes before they closed, but we never felt rushed. They employees were so sweet to our dog, Maggie, and they worked hard to make sure we were taken care of. The ambiance was refreshing as they had plants everywhere and a modern feel. Also, we each got our own water bottle from old wine bottles which was great on a hot, sunny day. I would go back here any day and I don't live anywhere near Waco. Honestly, I would consider making a the drive to Waco just for this place. If you decide to go ask for Jessica and make sure you tip her nice. She and all of the other employees will take great care of you and you will leave feeling content, full, and happy! My friend is in town from NJ so I took her to the best restaurant in Waco...Milo did not disappoint!!! Starting with lavender and rosemary infused lemonade to go with our crispy Brussels sprouts and corn ribs. Literally each bite is a party in your mouth with an explosion of textures and flavors! The southern chopped salad with Salmon was so fresh, you could taste the different greens and crunchy veggies and the salmon was the perfect combination of crisp and melt in your mouth. We went straight back to childhood with the toasty grilled cheese and tomato soup that was one of the most delicious meal I've ever eaten outside grandmas house. We finished with the biscuit bread pudding french toast with fresh berries. I don't know what was in that but it was pure heaven. This place is really good for breakfast, so I advise coming here for breakfast and maybe not dinner. I wouldn't advise ordering the Caesar salad - it was barely dressed and once I asked for a side of their homemade dressing, I realized why they barely dressed it. It's not a refreshing salad like other places that serve it. I suggest they chill the lettuce, you know, make it cold. Also, they put way too much Parmesan crumbles on it. You should order their brussels sprouts because those are really good. The Hot Chicken Tacos were pretty basic... a fried chicken tender in a tortilla with some slaw and a little bit of some sort of sauce... they weren't spicy or hot tacos at all... so I think they need to kick up the heat on those tacos. We had a party of 6 for a congratulatory dinner at Milo. We spent $500 on dinner and drinks (very small cocktails). The service was good the food was good (small portions) so we closed out the bill and paid for everything. Then we realized we never had a congratulatory ice cream for my daughter who had just graduated from Baylor. We asked for ONE SCOOP of ice cream with some chocolate sauce on top and we were refused. I mean REALLY - one scoop of ice cream and we were told it was another charge - I get it, it's a business but to refuse a scoop of ice cream after spending $500 put a damper on the whole evening. We won't ever go back again - good food and drinks but very small portions for the money and a manager that is overly focused on squeezing good paying customers for a $2.50 scoop of ice cream. read more

Drove from Dallas today to meet family & we decided on Milos for brunch. The vibe my family and I got was that this was just a "trendy" place to come hang out for the locals. I have two toddlers that needed high chairs, the high chairs were all broken, couldn't strap them in so I was having to hold them down the entire time. Menu is super covid basic, not sure if it was always this way, but theres not much to choose from and if you have young ones there's not much for them to eat. So just FYI, def not kid friendly. Service was just okay, not great & not bad. Now, onto the most negative part of the review... My Dad said his bloody marry was awful, my husband ordered a lemonade vodka drink that he said tasted like vodka and food coloring, awful. I ordered the burrito, really terrible. I'm not actually sure I fully can describe what flavors were being used in it. By far the worst burrito I've ever had. My husband and dad both ordered the fried chicken dish. They both said it was bland, unseasoned. My kids both refused to eat the buddy hollday plate I ordered, spit the sausage out. To top it off, we got the bill and somehow spent $96!!!!!! I actually had to ask her if thats normal, I was legitimately concerned that we all basically ate nothing because we liked nothing and paid nearly $100 for it. 3.5 Stars really. One of the few places that does good Southern Gourmet. The layout of the restaurant is ultra modern, Fixer Upper style. This place is probably better for urban visitors who are used to paying $15 for a breakfast. I found it to be a bit expensive in terms of portion size. I feel like this cute little diner can get overlooked in Waco but it is well worth a stop! The food was delicious. I recommend trying something that come with one of their biscuits. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is fun and very modern look. I also recommend stopping in their bathroom because it is gorgeous! The reason for only giving it a 4 star is because the service was slow even though the restaurant was not very busy. Also the portion sizes are smaller than what is expected for the price.
