I have eaten at Mille quite a few times. I've had food that I really liked and food that fell short, i.e. their quiche and pastries (which are beautiful, have been disappointing to me.) Mille offers a sandwich that I have often ordered because, for my taste. was wonderful. I was looking forward to having it today. For the second time, out of quite a few, the crust of the baguette was hard and dried out. The first time that happened, I sent it back. (I very, very seldom send restaurant food back.) The owner came to my table and advised me that it was not, "stale," my word, but that the bagette was made that very morning and that in this climate, bread dries out. He did replace my sandwich and it was fine. That time, I noticed that the sandwich used to be made with a thick slice of butter, and it had been replaced with much less butter. Today, I met a friend for lunch at Mille. I had been looking forward to having that sandwich. Again, the bread. although soft on the inside, it was hard on the outside. Too hard tor me to eat;mwhen I tried, it actually hurt my teeth - no exaggeration!! and the waiter said it would be no problem to make another (it also had a very thin slice of butter - I didn't mention that.) A second sandwich was delivered with the same problem about the bagette. At that point, the owner came to my table and informed me that he remembered me. (He didn't seem to be aware that I had been in his restaurant many times before; had ordered the same sandwich many times, and it had been perfect - that's why had ordered so often!) He went on and on - restaurant was full of customers - berating me, saying that he remembered that I had sent it back another time. He again, told me that the bread had been made that day, and due to our climate and wind, it dried out. He said that it should be hard on the outside and soft on the inside and this was true of the sandwich I had. Well, yes, I have had many baguettes and they should be crusty on the outside. Not hard. He continued berating me in public, saying that if I ordered it another time he would not make it for me. (No worries, I won't return to his establishment again.) He continued in a manner I saw as angry, telling me that he had to throw the food away and that was a waste. (So, although had eaten there quite a few times, and had had that sandwich each time, in the scheme of things, disposing of my food twice is a drop in the bucket, when compared to all the food eaten in his establishment.) He went on. I told him that I understood and was actually not happy that he had to dispose of two sandwiches because of me. (Because of me? the things for which I paid were not as they should have been.) I suggested that another French restaurant in town was able to keep their baguettes fresh, so there must be a way. He !!got more angry and continued. I asked him to stop and he continued. I insited that he stop and he finally did. The family of the friend who was with me had owned restaurants, was shocked, because treating a customer as I had been treated was totally unacceptable. I have told others that the restaurant had some really good food. Of course, I won't be doing that again. I JUST READ THE OWNER'S RESPONSE TO MY POST. TOTAL LIES! IT IS UNUSUALLY FOR ME TO SEND FOOD BACK. AND MY FRIEND DID NO SUCH THING! read more
