So we made an appointment. Driving 2 hours every weekday will invite unexpected things to attach itself onto a vehicle. Like a screw...from a wooden board...on a ramp...seen last minute up an elevation...during 5pm traffic. It must've been that. My car disappeared to the back within 10 min, even though I arrived early for my appt. no nonsense estimate with prices within a few min, including a quick Check to ensure parts were available. I'm currently waiting, so let me say this waiting area and front desk are clean and totally cool. You know you're in a car place, for sure. I'll post pics too. Had a great experience here. From the initial phone call to paying for the completed work there was total transparency and good attitudes all around. All of my questions were answered with patience and honesty. Prices were fair, not the cheapest, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Everyone should strive to support an honest small business as a small increase in price will grant you access to a knowledgeable staff that give honest feedback and wont try to take advantage of the situation. Complete Rear brake job installed 35,000 miles ago has resulted in a frozen caliper and destroyed rotor. I am finding out the hard way that the brake lines were not flushed/bled as part of the repair. 0 stars if I could give it. (Plus I had to go back to get vacuum plate put back as a result of it slipping after the brake job). No apologies from service desk. Will never go back. read more

Its very tough to find a trust worthy car shop but I'm happy to say this is it. I booked an appointment online easily and they were ready to go when I arrived. The shop itself is very well maintained. I got a second opinion from them on my state inspection and they are very trust worthy. one of their drivers cut me off today (he was leaving a walmart parking lot) while i just came through a green light. he looked at me as if he wanted me to hit him and just went & im completely distraught by the situation. he had a dog and a female in the passenger seat with him and he still had the audacity to wave at me at the next light. i would like to talk to someone about the situation, i have the license plate as well. people like him are the reason why i have anxiety when i drive and why i had a breakdown when i got home. i have a smaller car so i know i would've been seriously injured had i not been paying attention and slammed on my brakes. read more

I went to Mike's Auto Repair after reading some good reviews on Google. My car was giving me a very bumpy ride, and I was worried that something might be really bad, since the car is getting a bit older (2003 Toyota Corolla). I dropped the car off around 9am, and told Mike that he can take his time since I wasn't planning on doing much that day. He called me around 4pm, and told me that he found the tires to be the problem. He proceeded to tell me that I should get all 4 tires changed and do an alignment, and the price quote was around $600 for everything, including taxes. I was pretty blown by this- was sure that I could find a better price somewhere else, and asked him to just change the one tire that was really bad. He agreed to that, and hung up- but called back about 5 minutes later, and suggested that he just put the spare tire on, instead of having me go to two different places to get tires. This, I thought, was really awesome. Most auto places will do anything (including straight up lying) to get you to spend money at their place. Not Mike's- he'll do what he thinks is best. Also, after shopping around, I realized the price he quoted was not bad at all, and decided to get everything done there. (Tires at Costco, even, were not cheaper than what Mike quoted me). He did my alignment, and told me that the back ones are still slightly off, but that there's nothing we can do about that unless I get something called "shims," but said that he wouldn't do it if it was his car- so we left it at that. Overall, Mike is a very pleasant guy, his shop is clean, and I am very very happy with the service I got. I will be back to get my next oil change done! read more

I had been looking for a reliable auto service center for a while when I found Mike's. To get a sense of what they were about, I had a set of tires shipped to them and scheduled an appointment for mounting and balancing. My call was taken by Mike, the eponymous head honcho and all-around good guy who's so well-regarded in the rest of these reviews. On top of having a pleasant phone demeanor, Mike also comes across as an honest businessman: he made it clear which parts, labor, and additional services he would recommend and what they would cost before I scheduled my appointment. That might sound unremarkable to some, but you learn to appreciate candor when you've dealt with less scrupulous people who wait until you cross their threshold to spin some theretofore unmentioned fees on you. Mike dispelled any suspicions I might have had when he assured me that he would NOT try to upsell me on TPMS rebuilds if there were no evidence of slow leaks. Once I had arrived for my appointment, Mike offered to drop me off at my office down the road while I waited; he even doubled back to deliver the cell phone I had left on his passenger seat. The service was completed to my satisfaction within the quoted window and my car was waiting right out front when I returned. I am 61 years old and for many years traveled over 45,000 miles a year on the roads in six different states in the USA. I am experienced in auto, and mechanical repair. My advice is NEVER bring your automobile into Mike's Auto Repair for service. Mike is a "Price Gouger", and a LIAR. Brought my vehicle into Mike's for a bearing issue on my passenger front end.What should have been $950.00 worst case scenario. I was charged $1607.05. To add insult to injury Mike's mechanics knocked my front end out of alignment during the repair, and never bothered to align the front end. How nice read more

Mike is WONDERFUL! Someone let all the air out of my tires while I was at the mall and I had to be towed to Mike's by AAA at 5:30pm (they close at 6pm). Mike put air in my tires, gave me new tire caps and didn't charge me a a thing. He was super friendly as well and I would definitely return to him! I must admit I've never seen a garage located within a corporate-looking strip mall, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Conveniently located close to the Arundel Mills mall, this isn't exactly what I was expecting to find. I had some crazy brake issues, so I asked if they had time to fix my car in the next few days. They were booked solid, but said if I dropped off my keys on that Sunday, they'd be able to get to my car first thing Monday. Come Monday afternoon, I had my baby back and she sounded good as new ($740 later...). I was so thankful for the employee for noticing my military ID and giving me their discount. Excellent service and reasonably priced. I was looking for a reliable repair shop and I believe I found one with Mike's. I took my pickup truck to get some minor service work done. I knew exactly what needed to be done but didn't know what to expect to pay. I was a bit worried on the price before hand as some places can be very expensive. I was told how much it would be before approving the work. The price and the service were spot on. I will be taking my truck to Mike's for oil changes and anything else that is needed. Everyone there was pleasant and told me everything that they did. They even noticed that my battery wasn't secured properly and fixed that for me. I probably wouldn't have known about that until it loosened up more and created an issue. I will definitely be going back to Mike's. It's good to find a shop you can trust and is reasonably priced. Like all the other reviews, great service! I originally went to Firestone earlier this morning and sams club to price out 2 new tires. Mike definitely was comparable (sams would have been the better deal if I was getting all 4). Plus mike said he would work with me to see when I ACTUALLY need to get new brakes vs. Firestone suggesting I drop $1,500 that morning for new front and back brakes with out explaining anything to me about the shape the brakes are currently in!! Great and honest business --- which is very hard to find. My old car started acting up, more specifically with the starter system. I took it to Mike's on a whim because it's one of the closest shop around. After talking to Mike and his associate, I dropped off the car the next morning so they can test it. Came back that afternoon and unfortunately, they couldn't find anything wrong with it (it's a very old SUV) but they also didn't charge me a dime for their testing. A friend recommended this garage to me and from now on they will be who I go to for auto work. I had an electrical issue with a headlight and went to the dealership when I was unable to resolve it myself. The dealer told me I'd need a whole new headlamp assembly to fix the problem and would cost around $700. I went to Mike's to get an estimate from them. They looked at the car for about 20 minutes, fixed the electrical problem, and saved me hundreds of dollars. The staff were all friendly and the office area was clean. Well crap, I hate to update with such a disappointing experience but I feel like I should. Our brakes started lightly squeaking recently, so I called and scheduled an appointment to have it looked at. While there, I also asked if they could do an oil change, since it is advertised on their front window. I'm not going to go over every single detail here, but at first the man helping me (not "Mike" or whomever was the guy helping me last time) was pretty pleasant and helpful. However as my experience continued he treated me like I was pretty stupid. We were thinking our brake pads would need to be replaced, but he told me that the rotors also would be replaced because that's just how they do things, and "they don't make them like they used to," and other weird one-liners. I was asking specific questions, like "Are the rotors too thin or damaged/warped?" and "If there isn't anything wrong with them, why do we need to replace them?" He didn't answer any of these specific questions. I told him it just wasn't in our budget, so we'd have to come back later. So then he says "So we're just doing the oil change and replacing the air filter then," and didn't really give me much of a say. Honestly I prefer to go to the Lube Center, and I only thought to get the oil change as an "we're already here" kinda thing... but it sounded like they had already started it, so yeah... The total for the oil change and air filter was $65. Eeeek- a bit steep. We later found out it was the "standard 10W30 oil" and not synthetic, because they aren't "an oil-changing place." Well hello, don't advertise it in your window then- also when I first arrived he asked if we had standard or synthetic the last time and when I said I didn't know, he said he'd find out. So it was just weird- he contradicted himself a lot. My husband was pretty upset by this and called when he got home- the guy was incredibly rude to him on the phone and very condescending, much as he was with me (although with me he was credulous but polite.) He asked to speak with the owner, but was told the owner doesn't work there. And yet, he was totally there, in the front office and talking with some other people who came in, while I was there. That was the nice guy that helped me out last time...don't know why he wasn't available, but we asked specifically for him and the dude on the phone would not allow my husband to talk to anyone else- just said he was the manager and that was that. Anywho- when he was ringing me up for the oil change, I asked him if he could write/type out what he said was needed with the brake pads/rotors because I didn't quite understand and wanted to be able to let my husband know exactly what was needed/why. He said "sure," but then just gave me the regular, non-detailed receipt, which had NONE of that information on it at all. While we were waiting, the guy did bring out a little treasure box of toys and let my young son pick a toy. That was a nice feature. I don't think this guy was shady or was trying to scam me, however I just don't think he was treating me fairly or responding to my needs. It was also strange that he didn't come and show me in writing what needed to be done. When I came last year, they showed me the breakdown of the cost/parts/labor, and everything, so the expectation was clear. The closest thing I got here was "About $500," and then when I asked what it would be without the oil change (before he told me the price of the oil change- which he didn't do until he rang me up for it, when they were finished), he said "I could do it for about $400.) I just don't know what happened here. He treated me like I was totally stupid, and didn't answer my specific questions about what was needed and why. On top of all this, I was easily able to see that the parts cost half of what he quoted (quote before labor- just parts) on AutoZone after a friend told me to check it out. One last nitpicky thing- while asking if it was possible for me to be able to wait a couple weeks or so, so we could work this expense into our budget (as we were budgeting a more realistic ~$200, and were quoted "around $500") he said "Well it's not going to kill you to wait." Oh really? That's great, since we're talking about a critical safety system in my car- glad to know it won't KILL us. Thanks. Choose your euphemisms wisely, dude. read more

Found my new mechanic!!I have been in the Baltimore area for about 6 years and have been putting off getting maintenance done on my car for fear of getting taken advantage of. Mike put all my fears to rest! When he called to explain the necessary repairs he clearly described the problem, why it was a problem and how to fix it. He also let me know the severity of the problems and whether it was necessary to fix right away or not, also described how it would affect things in the future. I took my car to Mikes after receiving an estimate of over 1,000 from another mechanic who told me I needed new struts on a 2010 Toyota Corolla. I had been to Mike before and trusted him for a second opinion. He thought it was unusual that a car this new would need struts. Sure enough it seems that the first shop that replaced my brakes didn't tighten all of the caliper bolts causing a rattling when I drove. Mike promptly fixed the issue and saved me over $900.00! Mike and his crew do great work and are very friendly. The prices are very reasonable and you can tell he's not out to nickle and dime ya. He offered a shuttle service which I will likely use for future visits. Mike asked where I heard about him from and I told him Yelp. You rarely use honest and mechanic in the same sentence. I was surprised as to how Mike's Auto handled my situation. I went to a couple places near my place to try to fix my brake problem. Problem: This has happened only 3-4 times in the past 6 months of driving where when I'm coming to a stop at a red light or stop sign, the car glides an extra 7-10 yards before finally stopping. From what I read online, it could be 1 of numerous issues. One place said that I had to fix problem A, B, and C. Another place said that I had to fix problem B and C. Another said I had to fix problem C and D. There were so many things that I was confused. They all quoted me at least $800 worth of work with the possibility of not getting it corrected. I felt Mike's Auto could've made a nice chunk of change fixing numerous issues with my car, but they were completely honest in saying that they could not find the issue. Although I did not get anything done, they did not charge me for looking at my car. As an added bonus, my driver's side window would not go up automatically (for about 3 months), but when I got my car back, it started working. I didn't even tell them about this issue. Is there a six star option? Being new to the area and female, can definitely make it difficult to find someone you trust to help maintain your car. Growing up in Virginia I have had the same man servicing my car and my family's cars since I can remember. After building a solid relationship with someone who you have to trust about a topic you know little about makes it intimidating when searching for someone in a new area. After looking up reviews for local auto shops in the area I was impressed with the genuine reviews I read about Mike and his shop. I called to make an appointment for a state inspection (he quoted me $40 less than another shop I had e-mailed for information, who had negative reviews) and I also needed an oil change. Mike was extremely friendly and comfortable to talk to on the phone. I requested a morning appointment (if available) and Mike fit me in at 8:00am on my day off less than a week away. From the outside it doen't look like there is a garage since it is behind the building, luckily Mike warned me so I didn't drive by it. Walking into the shop, I was immediately impressed. The shop is so CLEAN and customer friendly from the bathroom to the check out counter. Mike greeted me at the counter and we were able to briefly get to know each other, and I could tel by our conversation that he is definitely a family man who knows his stuff about vehicles. I felt so comfortable that I stayed the whole time (roughly an hour and forty minutes) in the waiting area doing some reading and studying for school. Not only was Mike friendly, but every employee that walked by while I was waiting greeted me. After the work was completed Mike thoroughly explained everything to me and answered my questions. I asked about getting a 30,000 tune-up for my car to see what he recommended and I will be bringing my car back for that in the next few weeks. Also, I will never go anywhere else for an oil change or any other service while I am in the area.
