We've been going to this garage for 35 years. From the very first time there I realized these guys were different. They never suggested a service unless it was needed, occasionally talking you out of having something done if it wasn't necessary. I've long had the attitude that I wouldn't buy a car they did not service. We use them less frequently these days as we have a convenient dealership service department for our Subarus. My colleague at work recommended this auto shop to me as he has been coming here for many years and has formed a friendship with the owners. I went to Toyota Antwerpen this morning to have them look into some issues I was having. For one, the VSC and engine light came on in the dashboard. After diagnosing the VSC and engine light situation, it was determined that an ignition coil needed to be replaced and they were going to charge $295. Secondly, the light bulb for the fan control (2009 Corolla, so not digital like newer models) burnt out and no longer lights up when it is nighttime. Toyota was going to charge $154 to replace the light bulb. Toyota also recommended other services such as: induction service, cabin vent service, and evaporative flush. I called Foreign Auto Experts after my visit at Toyota to see if they could get me in today. I spoke to Brian and he said sure, if I could leave the car with them. Upon arrival, I was quoted around $200 for the coil replacement and he would look into the light bulb as he wasn't sure if the part would be in stock. He also told me that the other items Toyota recommended wasn't necessary. I went home and a few hours later, I got a call from Dusty. He gave me an update. He informed me that my spark plugs were loose when it was last replaced so he tightened them for me. When I came to pick up my car the total for the two items that needed to be serviced was only $231. It would have cost me $449 at Toyota, so I saved $218. The moral of the story is don't go to Toyota Antwerpen to service your car. If you want an honest mechanic, go to Foreign Auto Experts, so your car can get its TLC. This will be my go to place from now on. I highly recommend!! Btw, there is a small waiting room with a few chairs, a round table, and an array magazines. They also offer complimentary coffee and water. There was a tv, but not sure if it was operable as it wasn't turned on. read more

If someone ever asks about getting their car dealt with, this is my go to recommendation. Except of course euro cars which they don't work on apparently. But if you have an Asian import over 5 years old/don't have your dealer oil change perks anymore etc, this is the place to come. Also when you get that laundry list of "items to fix" from a typical dealer or mechanic... well, foreign auto experts will go through that and tell you what you ACTUALLY need. Most dealers will recommend unnecessary little things to deal with but FAE is always honest about what you really need. And to clarify I'm sure they work on newer vehicles too, it's just most people have some perks when they first get the car with the local dealership... like oil changes and rotations. And yes I've taken at least four different cars to them over the years and they've always been amazing read more

I took my car here and was quoted $1,600 to fix my air conditioning. I took it to another shop with trustworthy mechanics and it cost me $550 to get it fixed. I used to love the guys here but I have had nothing but problems with them. Its sad to see mechanics gouge women because they think they don't know about cars. read more

Steve and Brian are great at customer service but I was disappointed in the actual service performed on my vehicle. They did not clarify what they would be doing for the 60,000 mile service and I trusted that they knew what to do. Instead, they neglected to change the spark plugs and instead replaced the antifreeze and transmission fluid, neither of which was listed on the Subaru website. Furthermore, they did not ask if I needed my tires rotated and charged me to do so when it was not needed. The same mechanic told me that I need a wheel bearing replaced but given that he didn't know what was supposed to be done, I am going to seek a second opinion. I have used them for years but I doubt I will continue after this experience. read more

I just moved into the area and the shop I used to go to and trusted is not only farther but under new management. It's hard to find mechanics that I can trust. These guys don't try to rip you off and only try to fix things that are broken. Other shops wants to replace stuff that are still working. I go there to tell them the other shop suggested I get this and this replaced. They'll take it to the back and say they workin just fine. They do a good job for the fixes that needed to be done and charge fairly. Friendly, reliable and honest. I'm happy I found this place. read more

I can't believe that I haven't reviewed these guys yet! I am so happy with Foreign Auto Experts! When you move to a new area one of the hardest things is finding a car place that you can trust. Unfortunately for me, I didn't find these guys right away. I was referred to Foreign Auto Experts by some friends I worked with. Since they first day I brought my car in, nobody else has ever gotten the chance to even look at any of my vehicles. These guys are honest, competent, and trustworthy. They let you know what the problem is, and if you're bringing your car in for routine maintenance, they'll look down the road and tell you what repairs are coming up the next time. It is a pleasure (as much as getting my car worked on can be) to come here. They are so friendly, and matter of fact about what they do. On my second visit these guys saved me over $500 versus what another unscrupulous mechanic was trying to stick me with. Bottom line is that I trust them. The dealership is the DEVIL! Okay, so I take my lovely vehicle to the dealer and they come back with their darn Christmas list for the staff - that's what it felt like after seeing the price. I remember my girl(who formally lived in Bmore) raving about a place - so I place a call and she gives me FAE. I call and speak with Steve, he quotes me prices over the phone and I am like BET. Now, I live in Upper Marl, work in S. Spring and this spot is in Elkridge, but I drive for deals. So I throw caution to the wind and trek the vehicle there. Fast Fwd.. both Steve and Brian are very nice and informative. Brian was the one who took my case. He explained every thing to me, told me what my damage may be and he also picked me up from the Marc train station as I didn't want to subject another person to bring me or hear their mouth. Inside scoop - Brian did mention that they will likely be closing at 5pm in the near future. Push your car there if you have to - it's worth it. I wish we didn't NEEEEED these guys, I wish they were closer to Philly so I could give them all my car needs business. We were on the way to a wedding in Northern Virginia and my VW broke down at 11pm at night. We found the top reviewed mechanic in the surrounding area (these guys) and had the tow truck take the car there. At 7:30am, we woke up, called FAE and told them we dropped off our VW there and told him there was a coolant leak. "We don't do VWs" Well, crap. We took a taxi there at 9am and were getting ready to drive over to another mechanic when Brian told us that he'd just take a quick look and just maybe he could do something for us. Well, after an hour of waiting with all the hope in the world, Brian comes back and says he found the problem and is having the part brought there. Said it'd be about 2 or 3 more hours... I spent this time wondering how much all of this would cost as we were held hostage there. They offered us friendly conversation, refreshments, and lunch... if we wanted. At 2pm, they pull the car up and I get the bill... $180!!!! What a damn decent price when you consider I didn't have to pay for another tow truck and VW is not there thing. I am so thankful that these guys got us on our way for a decent price and were just super nice the whole time. You can tell that we aren't alone in thinking this based on all the other 5 star reviews and oh I forgot to mention that there were tons of customers bringing in treats to these guys to say thanks. My dad found this place on a reviews site, https://www.checkbook.org/. The site hasn't steered us wrong yet. I'm a young, single woman and know basically nothing about cars. I needed to be able to bring my car to a place that was close to work, reliable and not absurdly overpriced. Foreign Auto Experts was perfect. I got there when they opened at 7:30 and they were already busy. I had been told over the phone the week before that they would be able to give me a ride to work (only 10 minutes away) at 8:30. No biggie, I got to read my book. They actually were able to take me at 8 AM. The kid who drove was respectable, a good driver, friendly, etc. I never felt unsafe. I got a call when they knew what the issue was, along with a price estimate. He explained what the issue was in simple terms as well so I knew exactly what was going on. I gave the okay to do the work and then double checked the price. It was spot on. Nothing absurd. I got the call when it was done and went to pick it up. Easy to work with, pleasant, honest, and straightforward. I'm new to the area and heard about these guys from a friend of a friend. My 2008 Toyota Corolla had this loud rattling sound from a metal pan being loose in the underbelly. I'm not an expert with cars so did not feel confident in fixing it myself but was able to find the problem from googling - apparently it's common and can be easily fixed. I called foreign auto experts in the morning and they said I could come in the afternoon. They seemed to know the problem just from hearing me pull up and listening to the rattle. In 20 minutes, they had it fixed. The best part: "first one is on us, young man." They didn't charge me a cent because it was a very simple and quick fix! My Corolla is no longer rattling and you betcha I'll be coming back here for any problems in the future. Having just moved to Baltimore, I feel like I've found my "trusted mechanic". Additionally, they had logos of Honda, Acura, Toyota on the front of their store so I assume those are their specialties. Also, I asked for a few quotes on maintenance and the rates were a little pricey. However, I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to know my car is in good hands. read more

The people at Foreign Auto are always honest, timely and they do fantastic work. Sure, it's not the cheapest place around, but at this place you get quality work and customer service that surpasses all others. Prices are still reasonable, however. They don't try to sell you extra stuff that most other shops do. They'll tell you straight up if something needs work or if something is fine for another few thousand miles. Brought my Lexus RX330 in because the AC blower was not working. We were driving back to the city and short on time, but it was 100 degrees. A friend recommended Foreign Auto Experts to me years ago and I have not taken either of my vehicles to anyone else for almost a decade. Brian and Steve are are among the most honest an trustworthy people you will ever meet in your life. They only recommend the work that your car needs. I once had them look at my truck which had a rattling noise in the engine compartment. After taking a look, they told me that my vehicle needed a water pump that was probably covered under my dealer warranty. When I asked what I owed them, they told me nothing! There is nothing more valuable to me in a business relationship than trust. When Brian or Steve tells me that my vehicles need something, I take them at their word and they have never given me a reason to question any of their recommendations. I've only been to this mechanic one time, but I was very pleased with my first visit. Home visiting the 'rents, had a problem with my windshield wiper fluid shooters in my Subaru. Thought it was due to snow/ice/dirt buildup, but when the weather warmed and it didn't resolve itself I knew I needed to get professional help. It's the sort of thing that should be a really easy fix, but sometimes ends up being a pricey nightmare. Called to see if I could come in to Foreign Auto the same day, it was no problem, and they didn't even let me sit down in the waiting space when I arrived - they went right out to my car in the parking lot and were able to find where the fluid line -which the guy who replaced my windshield had failed to reconnect- had landed, pull it out from back behind the wheel well and reconnect it. No charge and problem solved in 5 minutes - something you could never, ever, say at a dealership! Another positive experience at an independent mechanic (pre-screened only of course. If lacking review on Yelp try Car Talk's Mechanic Files, very handy.) The location is rando, it's back in a industrial/office park, but still actually pretty convenient, it's maybe .5 miles off Route 1. read more

I've been using Foreign Auto Experts for many years and my 2 Toyotas have been given the best of care each and every time work needed to be done. As others have stated, they have checked out a perceived problem and found a quick and easy fix that they did not charge for. They definitely back up their work and will not look for "problems" like dealers and others do. If they say something needs to be done, it needs to be done.
