This is the ONLY place I take my cars for maintenance and repairs. Some may think it's stupid to drive about 30 mins for an oil change but I don't trust anyone else touching my cars. They are really nice and very HONEST they don't try to rip you off and make you get unnecessary repairs just to make money. If something needs to be repaired they let you know if it can wait a little longer if money is tight or they will let you know it needs to be done right away. Only been here once so far but came on a recommendation from some friends. Very nice guys working here. Very honest. They don't do unnecessary services just to make a buck. In fact, I over heard them tell a customer that they didn't need to do a service that another shop had suggested because it was unnecessary. I brought my car in to have the brakes serviced since I knew the front pads were pretty worn down. They replaced my front pads and didn't try to sell me on additional services that weren't needed. I called another local shop before calling these guys and was mislead and quoted a ridiculous price. In contrast, when I called Foreign Auto Experts, Dusty was respectful and honest. I dropped the car off that evening and hoped for the best. By 10 am the next morning, Dusty called me to tell me that my car was ready ahead of schedule. Requested an appointment at the dealership for an oil change and was told two weeks out. I checked yelp for a reputable place and found Foreign Auto Experts. I called to check if they could perform the oil change and check rotors and was told to come right in. I got lost twice and the manager, Brian, took over for my GPS. The staff is friendly, expertly informative, and efficient. Brian told me things about my car that I never knew and didn't try to force unnecessary repairs. They also use factory parts not after market. I normally wait at least two hours for an oil change at the dealership. There were at least three people who came in after me and were also serviced quickly. The price was reasonable as well. I found my new auto service shop. read more

My Honda wouldn't start. The garage near my house kept it for over a week and even though I was charged over $800 in diagnostic fees, they couldn't figure out what was wrong. A co-worker told me to call Brian or Steve at Foreign Auto Experts and during the phone conversation where I listed the symptoms, he said "You have a 1991 or 1992 Honda Accord, don't you?" Yup. AMAZING service, and they'll do the best to save you the most money. I took my car elsewhere, and they said they had to replace the two radiator fans in my accord, quoting about $700 total. Way too expensive, especially when I called here and they said it was quite high. I did some online searching and found some aftermarket parts from oreilly and/or autozone for about $300, less than half the price quoted. At that point, I just took my car back and brought it to Foreign Auto Experts. Within a minute or two, he calls his source up and gets the $650 or so quote as well, which is when he turns to me and tells me that $650 is bullshit, and to go on my way and he'll give me a call. Get a call within a couple hours, tell's to come pick the car up, he got it done for $340. New to the area, was a little worried trying a whole bunch of new mechanics, but I'm pretty sure I already found my guy. read more

I've been consistently impressed with this auto mechanic shop over the years, they are honest, reputable, and all around good people. As a young, early 20s girl who frankly... doesn't know much about cars, I feel completely confident taking my vehicle here, knowing that they will not try and rip me off or sell me things I don't need. Here's a prime example: In the past several weeks, an icon appeared on the dash of my Honda Civic. I took it to these guys to check it out, turns out it had something to do with my seatbelt sensor. Apparently, seat belts are covered under a lifetime warranty with Honda - I did not know this. Steve kindly directed me to a Honda dealer so I could get this fixed for free and didn't charge me anything for running the diagnostics check. As if that wasn't amazing enough, one of the nearby Honda dealers (Ourisman Honda - I DO NOT recommend them), charged me $170 for running the same diagnostics check and wanted $730 to fix the seat belt. I promptly called Steve back and he PERSONALLY reached out to O'Donnell Honda to confirm that this was covered under the Honda warranty and provided me an exact POC of who to speak with at the dealership. I am SO impressed with this business, they went the extra mile without receiving a penny - they will have my business forever. read more

FAE resolved a wheel bearing issue for me. There was persistent metal/roar noise coming from the front left side of the vehicle. I initially thought it was brake pads, but further research determined it was a wheel bearing issue. I stopped by Friday at 3p and talked to Steve. Explained him what noises I heard and he decided to drive it around the block to diagnose the issue. He came back and said drop it and not drive it. He gave me an estimate and timeline to fix. He said I could drop off the keys in the slot over the weekend. I did so on Sunday and the car was fixed Monday by 10 am. The total was a bit more than the estimate provided but the price seemed competitive and I knew he would not add additional items to 'work' on like other mechanics. These guys are trusted, honest mechanics. I had arrived based on online reviews and the final product was to my satisfaction. I also asked questions on my other car (whether I needed alignment once I had new tires with a car w/ 67k miles, Steve said no but dealer said yes). I appreciate the quick turnaround. What can I say about FAE that wasn't been said countless times? These guys are one of the best repair shops in Baltimore, period. I never, ever had any problems with them. I do a lot of my own car fixing, but I know and drive mostly german cars (which unfortunately they don't service) but my wife drives a Hyundai. I take the car there for every service. I have checked their work quality afterwards and found it nothing less than top notch. Also, their hourly rate is more than reasonable but they also allocate much less time to jobs than other shops. I have seen shops quoting me 3 hrs for 1 job which FAE quotes 1.5 hrs. Seriously, when you need car service don't even bother looking for another shop. read more

These guys will never push unnecessary services. When they have bad news, they give it to you straight: no panic, no OMG moments, just the brutal truth and how much it will cost to fix it. Feel free to take a breather and shop around after bad news but you won't find cheaper anywhere else. I fix my own cars but I used FAE several times in the past when I simply did not have the time. We have been going to Brian and Steve's shop ever since moving to Maryland based on an overwhelming number of word-of-mouth recommendations from neighbors and people at church. And they certainly deserve the praise! They are extremely careful to not recommend "extra" services simply for the sake of upselling, which I hugely appreciate. In some cases, I want the service (like having my hazard lights repaired next week), but in other cases I really don't care. They were so respectfully cautious even about the hazard lights that I feel like I could get a straight answer about much larger problems. I love it. Also, I'm fully capable of changing my own oil, but I usually come here to get mine changed because (1) they do it so much faster than I can change it and (2) they charge such a reasonable amount for their (very fast) service. Their parts fee is just about the same as when I do it myself (again, no upcharge), but not nearly so lengthy a process. We cannot recommend them enough. read more

Without a doubt the best repair shop I've ever found. I've been going for about 5 years now. They are HONEST and they only charge you for the time they spend fixing it (not the "average 3 hours for brakes" even if it takes them 1/2 an hour. I've often been shocked at the bill, sometimes it's 1/2 what I was anticipating. If they see something that may potentially be a problem, they always tell you about how long you're good for, and what to watch for when the problem gets worse (no mention of bring it back to us). Here are some personal examples: I was leaking oil from my drain plug. I tried to loosen it and it was frozen in place, and I suspected that when I got my oil changes last (at Jiffy Lube, ne-ver again), they crossed the threads and stripped the drain in my oil pan. I called Foreign auto experts, and I knew the best scenario was to replace the oil pan, so we ordered one. When the part was in the next day, I took my car in. As my friend and I were pulling out of the parking lot, the technician came running out of the garage, and flagged us down. He said the hole is not stripped, Jiffy Lube forgot to put the washer on (causing the unthreaded portion of the plug to lock in with the threads on the drain in the pan). They returned the oil pan free of charge, no charge for repairing the plug. He was going to do an Indiana Jones style plug swap so I wouldn't lose oil, also free of charge. I told them to go ahead and change the oil and take their time. I was 100% ready to replace the oil pan, and they had every right to do so, they chose the honest route, and one that they weren't even going to charge for. I began taking my car to them for everything. Once during an oil change, they noticed two nails in two different tires, by the time they told me about it they had already fixed one (no charge), and they recommended that for the other one (because it was on the edge of the sidewall) that I check to see if it's covered under the warranty and take it to them because they'd repair it for free because they look pretty new. It was covered, and they assured me that it was ok to drive on for a short while. Again, they were honest, and not seeking to bleed any more money out of me. No "I can't let your car leave here in this condition, unless we repair this" BS. I'm a lifetime customer, to the point I want to make sure I buy foreign cars so I can go to them. They're fast, super honest, only charge what it cost for the repairs, and they will even show you the bad part if it's possible to demonstrate why it's bad. Today, if they tell me they noticed something "else" on my car other than what my car was there for, I know it's 100% legit and I won't be pressured. I would give them 11/10, if it were possible because they have saved me so much money over the years and have prolonged my car's health. read more

Steve checked me in and was so polite and patient with me when I was explaining the bad news that Infiniti of Timonium told me about my car. I also told him that I took it to another place in between Infiniti and Foreign Auto Experts that told me Infiniti was absolutely wrong and nothing needed to be fixed. I was initially skeptical of all the positive reviews, but after a good first impression, I decided to give this place a shot. Getting a quote and scheduling the appointment was done easily in a single phone call, which is pretty unheard of. Most shops will ask you to leave all your information so they can do some research while you wait for a call back that may never come. If you're working with a dealership, you have to get bounced around between a service and a parts department and you can generally expect a nice headache before you get to pay double what you'd have spent elsewhere. I scheduled an appointment to have my timing belt and water pump replaced, which is a very laborious and usually an expensive repair. These guys did superb work, and they did the whole job in the same day, all for a very fair price. The best part is that the guys running the shop are genuinely friendly and don't spend their time trying to upsell you on services you don't need and didn't ask for, which has long been standard practice elsewhere. There are so many auto repair shops out there that routinely talk down to customers, treating them like they're stupid just to scare them into paying for services and parts that they don't need for inflated prices. It just proves you can run a good business by being honest and treating customers how you want to be treated. Been here once due to the high rating they have on Yelp. So far I'd have to say they deserve it! Brian and Steve were both very nice on the phone and in person. I explained my situation and they completely understood and had me make an appointment. Their quote was much lower than the dealership and they didn't try to upsell or anything. The shop itself has free wifi and outlets with table space for you to bring a laptop (or any other electronic devise)! You could even get some gaming done there while waiting, wow. The library is also really close if you prefer books. They had free coffee and a $1 snack box, so people like me who have to wait a couple hours would not die of neither boredom nor starvation. And over all very clean, lots of seating space, well air conditioned, etc. everything was fine. Like the other reviews here, I have to say they seemed super honest. I was there for about 3 hours and I over heard them talking about things that were unnecessary or over priced that other customers said other places convinced them to get. I used to bring my cars and trucks to Brian and Steve but have moved too far away to make it really convenient. They had serviced my vehicles, as well as the cars and trucks of many of Baltimore's cycling community, for years. They are incredibly honest and have looked for ways to save me money. I once had a 1991 Nissan pickup with a bad wiper motor. I think I brought it in twice to have them fix it and was not charged for either visit even though I was told that the motor would need to be replaced. I believe they cleaned the contacts or something, a temporary "fix" but one that I was happy with. When their ministrations had reached an impasse, they found a rebuilt motor for me and saved me some coin. I still recommend the shop to my friends who own Hondas and Toyotas and think that Brian and Steve are simply excellent. They are both no BS guys and make you feel important. Like a good doctor, they are present, caring and listen to your issues. I've been to other shops in my area and just never felt like I really liked or trusted the guys behind the counters, the owners or the mechanics. Call it a vibe that usually works well for me. To be honest, I never really trust auto mechanics. I always feel like they are scheming new ideas on how to mark up prices, sell me services I don't need, or even compromising my car so that I have to come back sooner for repairs. From my experience with the folks at FAE I can say that all these doubts have been dispelled, at least when it comes to working with the owners, Brian and Steve. My car had been making this awful noise on the way home from work which I had suspected was due to the brakes pads having been worn down to the metal and scraping against the rotors. I instantly felt a sense of dread as I knew this would most likely require new rotors and pads which can cost a lot, so I began hoping it was just a rock stuck in the brake system causing the grinding noise. Based on the great reviews for FAE, I stopped by the shop and asked if I could have my car checked out to figure out what the problem was. Steve informed me that he would take a look and have the car ready by the next morning, since I had arrived near closing hours. Before leaving I asked him what he thought the problem might be and what the potential cost of repairs would come out to. He explained that if it was the rotors and brake, I would need to replace them and he gave me a rough estimate, but if it was just something stuck then it would just be the cost of the diagnostic. So, I went home hoping for the latter and waited to hear back from him in the morning before making my decision. The next morning I received a call from Brian who told me that the car needed new rotors and brake pads, which they had proceeded to replace. What? I didn't ask for a replacement, I just wanted to know what the problem was and then make a decision after calling around to see if I could get the best price! As I explained this to Brian, he said something that literally left me speechless, "Alright then, you can decide what you want to pay or if you want you don't have to pay at all." I thought he was joking and asked him if he could clarify. Brian explained that it was probably a miscommunication and that it takes two people to make that kind of mistake, so since the replacement was already done I could pay whatever I thought was fair. So, he told me to come in to see what we could do about the price. While in the waiting room, which has free coffee and wi-fi by the way, I had the chance to see Brian interacting with other customers and it quickly became evident that they were regulars as the conversations were more about what was going on in their lives than about car repairs. He apologized to me as I was waiting, but there was no need to do so as I had only been sitting for about five minutes. In the end, I settled on paying for the price of the parts and not the labor due to the miscommunication, no questions asked, and it took all of two minutes. I specifically created this yelp account to write a review about the great work FAE does, specifically in customer service. From watching Brian's friendly and honest interactions with customers and his willingness to make sure that I was satisfied with the service provided, both in quality and price, he has convinced me to come back to the shop for any future repairs I may need. While I will need to test drive my car to determine if the work done was done well later down the road (pun intended), judging from the other reviews and the longtime customers the shop has kept (FAE has been in business nearly 20 years now) I am fairly certain that the repairs are of high quality. I brought my 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage here for the past 6 years. It needed a lot of TLC. Brian, Steve and their team have always been fantastic, reasonably priced and honest. Recently just shy of 300,000 miles the transmission went. I brought it in, explained the problem, they checked the check engine light and gave me the bad news. I asked what I owed them and they said nothing. One of the few stations that does not charge for check engine light diagnostics. Their prices are very reasonable and they are great guys.
