terrible service. I had a simple issue with my A/C. Simple issue, that got fixed in a different automotive within an hour. Ridgeway Automotive, didn't fix the problem. My vehicle was there 3 days, and they charged me for more than 500$ for nothing. I'm not recommend their service! read more

Driving around the beltway and the low tire pressure light comes on...on my way over the bay bridge....so obviously did not want to ignore. Pulled into Ridgeway auto.... they were friendly...took the car back and checked all the pressures (added some air and updated the sensors) ....and no charge! Literally in Shock! I've dealt with Ridgeway Auto for over 20 yrs. But just recently learned that the old proprietor Jeff sold the business and retired. Catonsville has lost a Great mechanic & business man and unfortunately from my most recent experience a valued auto-repair establishment. My 83 yrs old moms 2015 Jeep's engine starting making a horrendous noise. So I advised her not to start or drive it and had it towed to Ridgeway. I called ahead 1st and made an appointment. After her vehicle was towed to Ridgeway and allowing an appropriate amount of time I called to inquire about their findings. The 1st employee who answered the phone said to me that there is a knocking in the engine and the engine had to be replaced. When I asked them to be more specific, (exactly what has lead to this diagnosis), I was abruptly put on hold. Another individual picks up the phone, and I ask them for a more specific explanation. To which, I was told that there was rod knocking in the lower part of the engine. That there are bearings that sometimes where out. And basically the engine needed to be replaced. I advised them that I would discuss this with my mom and let them know. Their description and lack of a technical explanation immediately set off red-flags. I've owed, maintained and have dealt with cars, trucks and the plethora issues that arise over any vehicles life for quite some time now. And none of this made sense. So I discussed this with my mom and advised a 2nd opinion based upon there inability to provide a detailed explanation of the issue they were reporting. I called Ridgeway back up and spoke to Luke and advised to please have the vehicle moved to the parking lot. My mom paid their $80.00 diagnostic fee and we had her vehicle towed to Koons White Marsh, (after the small part of towing her insurance covered cost an additional $47.00 out of pocket). Which is were the vehicle was purchased from. So now, another $149.00 for Koons to due their diagnosis and another few days of waiting and wouldn't you know it. There IS NOTHING WRONG with the ENGINE or ENGINE RODS or ENGINE BEARINGS!! Koons reported that the air-compressor for the air-conditioning needed to be replaced and that was the source of the engine noise 1st reported. Contacted Ridgeway and let them know what was discovered and asked that they do the right thing and reimburse my mom her $80.00. To which they flat out refused! No explanation as to what work they actually did to come to their obviously WRONG conclusion. Basically told me, the charge is more about the time spent than the actual service provided. This is genuinely a sad day, the old proprietor Jeff was such a Solid person. He was absolutely the most honest mechanic Catonsville had. And to see the direction the new owners are taking the legacy of Ridgeway is truly SAD. If this is the New Customer Service from the New OWNERS., I have but one word.., BEWARE!!! We've been taking out cars here for years. I never feel like I'm being ripped off and their rates are reasonable. For example I just brought my car in because the brake, ABS and traction control warning lights were all on. It turned out it was just debris in the wheel sensor. If they were a sketchy shop they could easily have said the sensor needed to be replaced, but they didn't. They said after cleaning it out it looked fine, and they're test drive showed it was cleared and drove fine. And the fix worked. I highly recommend Ridgeway. read more

Reasons you should make Ridgeway your independent auto service garage of choice: 1) They're honest - if they come across anything unexpected or that wasn't on the work estimate, they call you. If there's any question, they'll take you into the shop and show you what needs fixing and why. 2) They're reasonable - Prices aren't out of this world, even for foreign cars. They don't replace parts just because they can, either. I've never had a service with them go over the estimate unless they uncovered a larger, unanticipated problem. 3) They deliver on time - when they say they'll finish servicing your vehicle by a certain time, it's almost always done by that time. If you've got a rush job, they'll try to fit you in when they can, and usually manage to get your repair done by your requested time. 4) They don't treat you like an idiot, even if you wear a skirt - my wife gets the same professional treatment as I do. When she took a previous car in thinking the power steering pump would need replacing, they reassured her that a much less expensive belt and tensioner would be all that was necessary. 5) They're pretty friendly, too - Ridgeway's been in the neighborhood for a long time, and they work to maintain their reputation. Plus they get to work in a cool old gas station as the front part of their garage center. Bonus: Even though they don't advertise as such, they originally specialized in Volkswagen service and repair, and still retain a lot of that business. Good VW shops are hard to find, and they've been doing them @ Ridgeway for decades. read more

Ridgeway Automotive is the ONLY place I would take my cars to and have for years. Jeff is the most HONEST businessman I know. After an accident my car was taken to a shop and they told me I also needed brakes then I went back to Jeff and he said I did not need brakes and I still had plenty of brake life left. Obviously the other shop was just trying to rip me off. He's got top notch technicians and I would recommend anyone to Ridgeway Automotive for your automotive needs! Ridgeway is a good honest mechanic that offers up proactive solutions (notices when tires need rotated/balanced) and will not always go for the most expensive solution. For instance he used a universal part to fix part of my muffler instead of installing a brand new one which saved me at least $300 bucks. They're also friendly and accommodating, so bonus points for that. read more

I've been a regular here for years because of the positive experiences I've had, every time. I finally decided to write a review because Jeff came through for me yesterday. I got a flat tire in Catonsville around 5:30pm, and I got to Ridgeway just before they closed. He patched my tire, switched it back on for the spare, and reinflated all of my tires, and charged me a fraction of what Mr. Tire would have for the same service. Not that any chain would have done it on such short notice anyway! Highly recommended. read more

I've been going to Ridgeway for almost 25 years now and my dad always took his cars there before that. They've always been honest with fair prices and they let you know when there are possible issues that may need to be fixed in the future. They never strongarm you into getting stuff fixed you really don't need, though. These guys are nice and they always do good work. Ridgeway is great - I have lived in Catonsville for 18+ years and had driven by probably over 1,000 times, and heard good things about them, but never had the need to stop by. Recently, I was purchasing a used car and needed an inspection to be done quickly. They handled the inspection quickly and took a very close look at the car to make sure there were no hidden issues. We have been going here for years, and have never once had the slightest issue -- they have cared for our vehicles and their various problems very well, and this past weekend they got me in on a busy Friday for a last second flat tire -- you won't find that most places, I can tell you that.
