I've been a customer of Das Auto for over 15 years and have brought them five different cars. They always did good work. I needed to replace my catalytic converter, so I ordered one myself from RockAuto.com. Sam at Das Auto agreed to install the part for a reasonable price. After picking up my SUV and driving it off the lot, it caught fire within 30 seconds. I quickly turned back and brought it onto their lot. The staff managed to put out the fire, but by then the vehicle was totaled. Das Auto's insurance company refused to compensate me for the loss, claiming that because the catalytic converter wasn't purchased through Das Auto, the service isn't covered. read more

My engine light was on in my Cadillac and we were 2 hours away from home and were nervous if it was some serious. We randomly chose this shop to take it to. We dropped it off, later that day received a written estimate by text and a call and text to tell me it was done. Being out of town, we ended up getting lost on the way they waited for us even though it was past the official closing time. Everyone was friendly, the engine light is no longer lit, it turned out to be a part having something to do with emissions. I appreciate them working us in, I appreciate their customer service and I have no issue with the fee charged, it seems fair to me. I would definitely use them again. read more

I had been using DAS Auto for many years. Their service was always great, prices were reasonable, and I felt they were honest. I referred many people to them. Unfortunately, when I sent my daughters friend to them, he had a very different experience. His car broke down and was towed to the AAA Repair Shop who said he needed a new engine. I told him to take it to DAS Auto and see if they could fix it without replacing the engine. They said they could fix the car. The quote was for around $1,600 which also included an oil change and an axle repair. He got the car back, drove it 3 miles, and it broke down again. We called DAS and asked them to send a tow truck to pick up the car. We then went to DAS to see what was wrong. They told me there was a problem with the engine rod and they could not fix the car. I was clearly upset that they did all this work on the car when it could not be fixed. I asked them to refund the money back. The best they offered me was $800, which he had to pay 50% of the cost of the tow truck. Unfortunately, I have stopped going there and do not recommend them. read more

My longtime mechanic sold his business and retired a couple of years ago. This required me to find a new shop. A year ago I took a chance and brought one of my cars that needed repairs to DAS. I was pleasantly surprised when my car was repaired on time and for the amount of money that I was quoted. They did not try to sell me a bunch of parts and service that I did not need. The work was done perfectly. Since then I have been there 2 more times with different cars that had different problems. They made both repairs in a timely manner and for the price quoted. I've been going here for over a decade now and have recommended them to all my friends. They seem to be a family owned shop and somehow recognize me and my wife every time I walk in. I've always had problems with finding reputable car repair/maintenance places but found them when a coworker took her car in for a replacement alternator and they just cleaned her battery connections and didn't charge her. We get everything done there, including tires. We just have tires shipped there from online places and they do them for us. It's just a nice feeling to go to a place where you get charged what you were quoted and don't have to fight over things they found in some "one thousand point inspection". I've never had a bad experience there and love the family feel. They are a great bunch of people. read more

Two year regular. This is going to be a full on raving review... so if you don't wanna read it all, just know... these guys are amazing. My first experience with them two years ago was negative because they misdiagnosed an issue (which I later researched was a very reasonable misdiagnosis). When I took the vehicle back in, they got the right diagnosis and deducted the cost from their original work. These guys take pride in getting things done right. Since then I've been a regular. They always get the work done as swiftly as possible at a more reasonable price than anywhere else. And it's worth being a regular because they won't hesitate to knock off charges for little things. One time I bought a radio from a place up the street and decided to install it in the parking lot. I messed up my electrical. Sam (the main point of contact at Das) ran up the street with some tools and fixed it for free right there at no charge. I could write a ten page review on the excellent, efficient, and cost friendly work they do. But I'll just leave you with this.... their customer service is incredible, they want you back so they'll always put 100% into the job they do, and they care about your issues. If I moved four hours away... I'd still come to them for all my services. read more

Finding a good, honest mechanic is always tough, but these guys appear to be just that. They quoted me a price over the phone of $350 for work that the dealer wanted to charge me $800 to do. When all was said and done they were within $30 of that estimate. They were courteous and got the work done in a day. They even reset the maintenance indicator in the dash of my Civic from red to green after doing an oil change. The Honda dealer never did that, which I always found very annoying. read more

Don't go!!! I had been going to them for a few years. Work was good but always over priced. But I kept going because I was being a loyal customer and liked knowing my mechanic. The management really did me in with my last visit. They accidentally kept my wheel lock. I called and they told me I could pick it up. I went three times and each time I got a different story as to where my wheel lock was. Finally they offered to just put nuggets on my wheel because they couldn't find the wheel lock. When I demanded they order the part the manager called me back and left me a voicemail saying, "It's your wheel and your problem. Don't call me back." To say they very least I would never go back and I recommend you dont either! read more

Decent labor rates and fast service until you get a faulty part from their supplier. I had an axle replaced from this shop. After a couple of months, it started making clunking noises along with horrible vibration. I took it back they claimed it was completely normal and refused to replace it. I went to the dealer, bought the part brand new and had someone else put it on. Guess what? the noise and vibration completely went away. I took my vehicle to Das auto repair in Columbia Md. on Dobbin way, because my shift cables needed to be repaired. I've been driving over 20 yrs and I have never experienced such unprofessional-ism, disrespect, and unconcerned service. The owner Sam was very rude since my initial visit, he seemed very frustrated and made me feel very uncomfortable. After my car was fixed I drove home, which is about 5 minutes away, and didn't drive until the day after when the same problem occurred again. I called and he asked me "what the F' (profanity) did I want him to do." I was furious, but O kept my cool, and had my car towed to his shop once again. After the technician fixed the problem he was upset, because I asked for a receipt for the part, because I think he used an old part and charged me $400 to fix a ten minute job!!! PLEASE IF YOU WANT HONEST PROFESSIONAL SERVICE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. This was the WORST auto repair experience ever. FIND ANOTHER SHOP FOR YOUR HARD EARN CASH!!!! Here's my story. I went to visit local shop in a corner called Das Auto for the first time simply to get my oil changed. There is little risk for something to go drastically bad right? Right? Wrong. I believe the oil they put in my car was conventional oil, not the full synthetic oil that is required for my german car and engine. With a name like Das Auto you would expect them to know better. It was less than 6 weeks after the oil change and 1500 miles when the check oil light lit up my dashboard. Checked the dipstick and sure enough it was completely dry. I guess It could have been an honest oversight except for the fact that I specifically asked this guy (manager i assume) about the type of oil they regularly use, the viscosity, and the brand in order to avoid said incident. He promised they use a very high quality brand more expensive than what most dealers offer. Great i thought. I should've known it too good to be true. I dont believe this was a simple mistake, it just feels like I was ripped off and flat out lied to. Since then, my engine has developed a bad noisy rattle and I can only hope my engine isn't severely damaged. All subsequent oil changes since that frightful day have not shown any issues, with my latest change interval lasting about 6500 miles. Always dependable. Needed my HID headlight bulb changed on my Toyota Prius. Dealer quoted $132 with me supplying the bulb, $291 with them supplying the bulb. I bought the bulb on Amazon for $45 and DAS replaced it for $36, a savings of nearly $100. read more

I took my car in to get the headlights replaced. I've done this here for the last 10 years. I tell the gentleman what I need done and he take my keys and car into the shop. In less than 20 minutes my car is ready. The guy behind the counter says 58.68. Of course my reaction is "excuse me this should have been no more than $40." He then tells me each light was $20. I'm still not buying it. He gives me the receipt but folds it. Why? Because if you look at the detailed receipt it says lights were $10 each and labor was $36. I proceeded to tell him that he is over chargingfor labor. It literally took him 8-10 minutes to put the fuses, or whatever it is, in. I asked him are they so hard up for money that they are trying to scam me. Oh well that got me today but you best believe that they will never work on any of our cars again.
