I've been here twice at lunch time, both on days when there were world cup games I could watch. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing and it's a decent place to grab a lunch and watch a game. Another bonus is that it's close enough to my work that I can walk there and work off part of the meal immediately. Both times I ordered the all you can eat sushi. It's a tad on the expensive side at $14.95. Obviously I didn't hate it or I wouldn't have ordered again, however in all honesty it was nothing remarkable. The one roll that I feel they do quite well is the spicy tuna roll. The rest is just mediocre. Spare the extra $3 and stick to the rolls. The nigiri is not as fresh or well prepared as most places I've been. All in all, it's a worthwhile place to mention in Beverly and I'm sure I'll be back, particularly if there's a mid-day sporting event I'd like to catch while I eat. read more

I have been to this restaurant a few times and I have to say that I will not be going back. We were in the restaurant for a Habachi dinner and was there for 50 mins. We were talking at the end and were asked to move to a table outside the area because they had other reservations waiting. We were rushed and the food was only so so. I've been here for hibachi, take-out, eat-in, and just drinks and it's the best Asian restaurant in Beverly. I'll be the first to admit I'm no hibachi expert, but our hibachi experience here was great. Good food, entertaining chef, and good service. Whenever we go here (for take-out or eat-in), it's a pleasant experience. The waitstaff is attentive and the managers are always around to check-in with the diners. I can't say enough about the quality of the chicken they use in their chicken dishes - it's delicious white meat without any of the mystery bits I've gotten at places like China Jade. The miso soup is deliciously seasoned, the beef dishes are tender, and the crab rangoons are excellent. The food comes out quickly and the servings are large; one dish will serve two people easily. The drinks are pretty good here, too. To quote my husband, "It's not like the other places where they give you different flavors of Juicy Juice and throw some rum in it. It's delicious." The decor is kind of non-existent and my only complaint, but at least it'd not the cheesy tiki stuff they've got elsewhere. The place is clean and well maintained. Haven't had the sushi here, so I can't comment on it. Bottom line on the rest of it - eat here, forget the other Asian joints in Beverly. read more

Went here tonight for my daughter's 26 birthday dinner. The hibachi tables were full, however the hostess stated we could order hibachi at the tables in the dinning room. We were greeted at our table by a friendly server who took our drink order right away. Once our drinks came to the table we put in our hibachi order. My oldest and I ordered filet and shrimp, my youngest ordered the steK and chicken, and my other daughter ordered the filet. We asked for the sauces that come with hibachi and some of the ginger butter in the side for our rice. When our entrees came to the table my steak was cooked extremely well and was cold to the touch. The waiter never brought out the sauces that come with the hibachi. I told rhe waiter to take my food off the bill. My kids stated theirs was cold but didn't mind and would eat it any way. The waiter never came back to the table during the rest of our dinning experience. I had to ask for our check. I did make sure to tip the necessary 15%, but let the waiter know that the hibachi is nothing like eating at the grill table and that he left our drinks empty the entire time my kids ate. I came here to have dinner with my sister and meet with some cousins from out of town. Our chef was really great and we had a wonderful experience. The miso soup was WAY TO SALTY and I was sad because I love miso soup. Our salads were great and the food was pretty good. The only thing I would ask the chef not to do is put so much soy sauce in the fried rice. It was really saturated and I wish I had been able to choose the amount of soy sauce in the rice. Overall, most of the food was over salted and I didn't care for it. The experience itself was great, but the food just didn't do it for me. Asparagus was cooked well but not properly prepared, the bottoms were hard. Overall, the dish was very flavorful. 2. General Tso: Could have been much better. There are definitely better alternatives available on the menu. The coating was soggy from the sauce. Overall, the dish was very sweet, wouldn't recommend this. The food wasn't terrible and the hibachi server was very nice and funny. The portions were a normal size, but the food was just okay. It was pretty expensive for hibachi. We were rushed during service because there was only one hibachi chef working. The waiter wasn't very friendly and gave us no time to overlook the menu. The waiter was incredibly rude and complained about the 15% tip and asked for more money. It was rude and embarrassing. Ate at the hibachi for my birthday dinner, and it was amazing. I've done this at about five different restaurants, and this was by far the most entertaining. The food was good...but sitting at the hibachi is not about the food is it. I'm pretty sure my five year old son thought that this was the greatest moment of his life...very fun. Absolutely my favorite place for asian food! The Hibachi section is great, but My wife and I usually just get a standard table. TRY THE EGG ROLLS!!!!!! I've never put egg rolls on my list of favorite things to eat but they got me hooked! They taste so fresh and delicious! Everything else I've gotten there has been perfect, the Crispy Fish special is great too! I've had their sushi before and enjoyed it- but I'm not to knowledgeable on sushi, so I won't speak for all the "sushi snobs" out there. This is a very nice and upscale japanese restaurant, which boasts a fun twist! They have a very nice "Fusion Menu" which blends classic American dishes for the picky eaters, or children in your party! Terrible service. Manager was rude. Sat us 30 minutes late for our reservation. Waiter didn't come over for 45 minutes after that. In the meantime manager said sorry it's taking so long would you like an appetizer for the kids which we said sure then he charged us for the app. Also upcharged all of the kids meals even when we asked to cancel one, before anything came out and was told no. This has always been one of our favorite places to go for celebrations at the hibachi table - we booked 21 people on a Sunday night and thought it wouldn't be busy and it wasn't but apparently they thought that a party of 21 would only need about an hour to hour and 15 minutes! We spent over $800 in an hour and would of spent more had we had time. The waitress is one of the rudest I have ever had the pleasure to meet. She is never that happy but made a big celebration awful and had no care about us just rushed us, rudely told people to sit, delivered rice after the meal, delivered cold edamame, I didn't have any time to eat and basically took my dinner home. Unless you have a big crowd for the hibachi I suggest you go some place else. They completely rush the process and do a half fast presentation because there's a only a party of two or three. The hibachi is alright, I have had better. The fried rice is an additional charge on top of the high prices. The scorpion bowl was delicious and I would suggest that! The atmosphere is what you would expect for the restaurant being in a strip mall with shopping stores. The service here really needs work, even the manager comes off being rude. You can totally tell they only really care about making money and getting people in and out as quick as possible. I don't want to give them even one star! I went this restaurant at the Christmas Eve with my family include my 2 and half years old baby daughter. And they said my daughter has to pay for using the sushi buffet. I told them my daughter can't eat the sushi at all. The manager and waitress's attitude was so bad. They said us that we can go out if we don't want to paid for my baby daughter. We really didn't want to stay because that was the Christmas Day and we don't understand why they're attitude was so bad. We just left the restaurant and just suggested them that .... in my perspective, they have to put the police on the manu at least. The worst dining place ever. Even though you can have "all you can eat", they give too much rice for sushi. I've been to many sushi restaurants, and I've never had that much rice before. Inevitably, I left some rice, and they told me that they would charge me extra money almost as much as I pay for the meal, so I had to eat rice with soybean source, which was a funny thing. This is one of my favorite north shore Chinese restaurants, which isn't saying much as most places are awful. They at least do a slightly better than mediocre job fairly consistently. Service is usually friendly and kitchen varies based on the night of the week. I've lived and worked in China and the food here is NOT authentic, very Americanized version. Quality is very middling but at least predictable. Try the beef chow yoo it's the only Cantonese style dish they have. Chow foon noodles also not bad, although vegetables are bland and limp. They have sushi, Thai, and Hibachi tables, trying to be everything to all people never quite works but I keep returning nonetheless. read more

Always delivers good quality food! My family and I have eaten here numerous times. We love going to the hibachi side not only for the great show the chef puts on but the deliciously fresh food cooked right before your eyes. It's worth the money to get the filet mignon over the sirloin steak. My husband likes the all you can eat sushi for $11.99 at lunch. This review is for the service, not the food because the food we ordered never came. My husband and I were seated quickly, but were surprised at how busy the restaurant was. Nevertheless, we were excited to have a simple meal - General Tso's chicken and the lunch sushi platter. After about 40 minutes of waiting, we noticed that at least 2 couples who were seated 20 minutes after us had already received their food and our waiter was nowhere in sight. After waiting for 50 minutes and still no sign of our waiter, my husband and I decided to leave. We told the host about our situation and instead of being apologetic, he asked us if we wanted to 'to-go' our order! Of course we declined.. who knows how long that would have took. On the way out, a couple that was waiting to be seated when were led to our seats was getting ready to leave after having FINISHED their meal. I am very very very very disappointed to say the least. Mikado's was just the thing I needed last night. Everything was perfect.I arrived at 7pm and waited for my date to arrive at the bar. Since I didn't want to get bombed I sipped on soda water with a lime. The bar tender made me feel welcome and was attentive while I waited patiently. My date showed up and since it was such a great atmosphere we decided just to have dinner and drinks at the bar. We ordered Hot Sake and Cold Ashi (beer) and proceded to do sake bombs. The service was great! The Tom Yum Soup was THE BEST SOUP I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY 35 YRS OF EXISTENCE! The broth was just spicy enough (and I love hot & spicy) and had just the right balance of seasonings. The shrimp & scallop in the soup was delectable and the veggies in it were delicious. I ordered a cup for $4.00 and it came out in a large bowl. so the portion was large and the price was more than fair. It was healthy and so good. Next I munched on some edemame that also was perfect. It was steamed just right with just the right amount of kosher salt. The Maki I ordered was a spring garden roll and it was the best I have ever tasted in fact I am craving it again right now.It was wrapped in a soy-seaweed which surprisingly cameout a summery-happy shade of yellow. It contained Mango-Banana-asparagus-avacado and topped with spicy scollops. Mikado has it all! It was to Die for! Not to mention they have a hibachi area, dining room,and sushi bar. Mikado has something for everyone. The kids love the hibachi bar-The food enthusiasts can enjoy the delicious food-The Bar friendly couples enjoy drinks..(the drink menu was also very colorful and offered many exciting choices). I came here for the lunch buffet special with a friend. She had a 12 week old and he happened to be a bit fussy that day. So while we were eating, she had to constantly take care of him, go outside and take strolls with him to get him to fall asleep. But no matter what he refused to sleep. She barely ate anything and we only ordered our first round when she asked to just leave. So when we waved our waitress down (who only came to our table once during the time we were there), we asked if we could just take the food to-go. Explaining our situation, we asked to not be charged since my friend could eat, just wasn't able to because of her baby. The waiter refused and told us he'll only charge us $5 for our leftovers and that we're getting a "good deal." (Why are you trying to haggle?!) It's not like we couldn't eat it or that we even ate a lot. In the end, we had to pay more than what we would have been charged if we just bought regular price. I get that stores have policies. But this is unreasonable and an unpleasant experience which left a bad taste and afternoon for us both. More than the fee, it's the attitude that will keep me from this place. read more

I can't imagine that this restaurant gets reviewed favorably although I must say in the two times I have been there I have never had sushi or any drinks which people comment so favorably on. Last night will be my last visit to Mikado; this was our 3rd try. The food was overpriced for the portion size.You don't fool me with the serving of small quantities and putting the food in a mound on a very large plate. Everything my husband and I both ate was weird and not very tasty. By weird I mean that no matter what I have tried, there's something strange about it. The pad thai had or have been the worst I have ever had; it barely resembled pad thai. It was pasty, looked orange and kind of tasted like it had Campbell's tomato soup in it. The noodles aren't the normal kind used, there was hardly any chicken in it. Yuck. Oh and my husband who always eats hot and sour soup said his was very odd. Last night after dinner he wasn't feeling too good from the food. Ordered basil chicken. Terrible. I thought they maybe had the order wrong. I saw a few specks of basil and barely any chicken and the dish was mostly onions. This also was slimy and off tasting. It was tiny order. Nobody stopped by the table to see how everything was. I love Mikado. It is in kind of a weird mall plaza in North Beverly. But it is very good quality food. I mostly get their sushi when I go. The Passion Roll and the Sunset Maki are my favorite. The Passion Roll has spicy crab in the middle and on top are thin slices of tuna, salmon and yellowtail, roped with a wasabi drizzle sauce. It is to die for. The Sunset Maki has spicy seafood inside and crab on top topped with spicy mayo. Yum! On the rare occasion that I get their Chinese cuisine, it is if highly quality. Not slaty or greasy like most places. Their ingredients taste fresh. My husband likes their General Gao Chicken, the Mongolian Beef, and the Orange Chicken-all are very tasty as I have sampled bites! I had the Moo Shu chicken for take out the other night and it was so delicious! Their Lo Mein is good too! As far as service, we usually sit at the bar and the service there is very friendly and prompt. The table service is pretty good too. My ten year old daughter loves Japanese food. Hibachi, sushi, Americanized stuff; it's all good in her eyes. She has been begging me to visit a Hibachi restaurant since going to one a few months ago & we certainly will when we can get a big group together, but tonight we were doing the mother-daughter quality time thing so we decided to get some sushi. Mikado was hoppin' when we arrived at about 6:30 on a Friday night but we were promptly seated in a booth(no reservations). Our waitress came over right away with menus and took our drink orders after just a moment. There's a full bar plus your usual non-alcoholic options. I opted for the "Key West" martini ($6.95) and my teetotaler ten year old got a Shirley Temple ($2.00). The -tini was tasty; it had a good kick to it. Daughter was pleased that her ST came with an orange slice & a marashino cherry speared on a tiny plastic sword and spent much of our wait time playing with it. Good times. We looked at the menu (it has pictures; not neccesarily corresponding to every dish) and went with a couple old standbys & one new dish. Our order: 1 tuna avocado roll(6 peices-$5.50), 1 salmon avocado roll(also 6 peices-$5.50), and 1 Spring Garden(8 peices-$14). The food took a little bit to get to us but as I explained to Daughter it's not fast food. She had her sword, so she was happy. The waitress brought us water upon request & I was pleased to note that it's not just tap water but filtered water of some sort-Beverly water is uber-chlorinated & there wasn't any bad taste at all. What can I say? Stuff like that matters. Anyway, on to the meal. Our sushi was BEAUTIFUL. It came presented on a large square plate, the Spring Garden arranged artfully on a banana leaf, flanked by the tuna & salmon rolls on either side. There was super-fresh & tasty ginger and wasabi and (to Daughter's delight) a funkily cut orange slice. The soy sauce came in a cool little pitcher with Japanese characters written on it(wish I'd asked what it said. I'm sure it was profound. Or not. Heh.) and the little leaf shaped soy sauce bowls were something my grandma would've put in her purse(they were pretty. And grandma was a notorious klepto of restaurant stuff; all her glasses had writing on them. Don't hate. She's from Lynn.). Taste wise? Zomg so good. Nothing surprising about the salmon or tuna rolls; theywere standard fare. I actually prefer the ones from the sushi place at the mall but these were good. The Spring Garden, however, was phenomenal. I 'll describe it as best I can, in laymans terms because I am no sushi expert. There was mango! And asparagus! It was wrapped in pink seaweed! Ok, enough with the exclamation points. I'm just pumped, that's all. There was a delicious sauce on top. A bit spicy but not too much for the 10 year old. She liked it but since I loved it we negotiated: I let her have most of the salmon & tuna rolls, she let me have most of the Spring Garden roll. Sticky rice, avocado, banana(? It didn't taste banana-y but I think I remember that from the menu? Sorry), and if there was fish it was hidden in the sauce on top (I honestly don't remember the menu & think there was orange roe but it was fresh; not fishy so I could't tell. Derp.). Don't let my flakiness about the ingredients deter you- it was delicious. We finished the whole order & had just enough room left to share a dessert. I'm intrigued by the first item on the dessert list; some form of "small rice ball with ice cream:green tea or mango"(I think- our waitress had a thick accent) but my marginally less adventurous dining companion wanted to try the fried ice cream. Another beautiful presentation, our ice cream came on a chocolate drizzled plate festooned with dollops of whipped cream and some prettily cut apple slices. The ice cream itself was yummy; it was covered in a chewy cinnamon oatmeal fried shell which was warm, the ice cream was a creamy vanilla & not rock hard (like some fried ice cream centers can be). The portion was perfect to share, if we hadn't stuffed so much sushi away we probably could've both finished our own off. At $5.00 it was well worth it. The waitress dropped off the check while we were eating our dessert, but we didn't feel rushed. There was a family seated in the booth on the other side of the wall from us when we were almost done & I was struck by the lack of privacy at that moment. It was more funny than anything...the father made a loud joke...just giving you a heads up that a booth seat does not mean a private alcove. There are slats, not a full wall. The bill? $41.68 The verdict? I'm glad we have Mikado in the North Beverly Plaza. It's a nice, casual but classy alternative to the usual strip mall fare. TL;DR?
