Amikado in Beverly, MA, is the kind of place where you come for the "all-you-can-eat sushi" but end up leaving full of...rice. Seriously, I've never seen so much rice on sushi in my life. I felt like I was starring in an episode of Extreme Carbohydrate Consumption. Fish? Barely saw it. There was fish on the sushi. The ambiance? Let's just say it's about as exciting as the waiting room at a DMV. The highlight of the night was watching a large party in the hibachi section having the time of their lives having sake sprayed on their faces, while I tried to figure out if my waiter thought I was invisible or just a huge inconvenience. It was my second time here, and once again, service was as enthusiastic as a sloth on vacation. I have been eating for years at Mikado and really like this restaurant. There are a few things that keep me coming back. 1. They have not raised prices unlike the other chinese restaurants in beverly and danvers. 2. They have brown rice and are willing to substitute fried rice, with brown rice fried. 3. I am allergic to soy sauce and they are willing to make a My dishes with a white sauce. 4. Hibachi dinners at take-out are simply the best!! The seafood is delicious and fresh, great offering of vegetables, salad snd soup and can substitute the rice. I am very satisfied and find the waiters kind and courteous. Eating in restaurant is a little better than takeout. I agree with missed ordered items, but the reviews about burnt food are a joke. I think most of the complaints are about the hibachi, which I can't really comment on because I'm not a fan of hibachi in general. However, the food is GREAT. The sushi menu has so many great options, any common roll you can think of you'll find here. The King of Ocean roll is the best I have ever had and cannot recommend more. Their other food, such as rice and other entrees are great too. The staff is very friendly and seems to recognize my family at this point. It may be a BIT longer some nights than others but sushi is complicated. I've been here over thirty times and have only gotten sick once on an extremely busy night where they seemed understaffed. Food is good. Usually enjoy eating here with friends every once and a while with whatever money we can scrounge up to eat out. Left a 10% tip for a waiter who brought us 2 things and acted like we were an inconvenience. When he looks at the tip, he hands the check back to me and says "10% not enough" Tips are not required. They are earned through a waiters ability to serve. I usually tip 20% everywhere I go but tipped low because that's what the service was worth. I ended up raising my tip to 15% before leaving. I hope the value of that 5% was worth losing a customer, next time you feel entitled to someone else's money you should do your job better. read more

After finishing my ghost hunt hike at Witch's Woods, we definitely need to fuel up before heading home. Not familiar with the area, I searched up the closest all you can eat. Mikado has the usual Japanese restaurant setup: bar, sushi, and hibachi. We ordered the All You can Eat sushi option, which starts you off with a choice of salad or soup. After that, you can order rolls as many time as you like, as long as you finish. The downside? The wait between rounds being served was a little too long (and I rarely, rarely complain about this because I try to be understanding). In this case, there weren't many other diners and the rolls were the very basic variety. Mikado has specialty rolls, but none were listed on the AYCE, even 1 or 2 would have been a game changer. I do appreciate our waitress taking our order as soon as we finished though! All in all, I could've done the same price at China Buffet back at home and get EVERYTHING! read more

Ate here today (New Year's Day ) for lunch with a friend and they sat us immediately. Was surprised to read reviews about people feeling uncomfortable with the sake squirt bottle as I've seen that at other Hibachi places. I had calamari and my friend had chicken, they let us get both rice and noodles with our entrees. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge so we both took a doggy bag home with us. Mikado was a really great lunch spot. They have all you can eat sushi at lunch for $12.95. While I don't eat sushi, my husband said that the sushi was pretty good. I had their lunch special with General Gao's chicken, fried rice, and crab rangoon. The portions they have of all this food was very generous considering I paid only $9.00 for it all. The general gao's was very good, crispy and flavorful, but not too spicy. The fried rice had veggies in it which I loved and the crab rangoon was excellent. I did have their pan fried dumplings, and I was not totally fond of those. They were spinach filled and the dough was extremely thick. I like my dumplings thinner and filled with meat rather than just spinach. I don't think I will order those again. Overall, I liked it and will be back for lunch again. read more

I was starving, having not eaten all day, and would have wolfed down almost anything. Not this though, after w couple of bites, I gave up and threw it out. There was a woman taking and bringing drink and salad orders while sweeping up who should have been provided with some assistance. We ordered from Mikado tonight and used DoorDash to deliver. Our order never came. We tried to get through to DoorDash but that was useless. We called Mikado and they didn't care. We explained the situation. They didn't want any part of making it right.They said it was our problem and hung up on us. We called back and they continued to hang up. I think they could have offered to replace the food or they could have tried to get in touch with DoorDash. We only used DoorDash because it was on their site for delivery, so I feel they should have tried to do something. I give then 0 stars. read more

The place was pretty spacious with a bar with 2 HDTVs. The host was friendly and professional. They have a separate section for hibachi. You could take large groups here if you wanted. it was well kept. The specialty rolls were a little expensive for me ranging from around $12-18 so we stayed away from those. We got the chicken katsu and beef with mixed veggies (about $23 together). both were good and the portions were big. In my opinion the presentation was a little sloppy, food was salty. It's only been 2 hours since we ate but i'm already dehydrated. DOWNSIDE: our waiter. He is horrible at his job. He was unfriendly and treated us poorly from the beginning like he had a vendetta with us. I was friendlier than he was. when he did talk we could barely hear him. Its been a while since I've come here, but my fiancé took me here a few days ago for my birthday since I've always talked so highly of this place. It was literally the worst experience I've ever had. We called at 11am for a hibachi dinner for 5:15pm. When we got there they sat us at one of the grills on the side, which i thought was odd considering there was nobody at the rest of the table. Come to find out, they were doing us and the party at the other grill at the same time. I couldn't even see the guy cooking on the grill, which is what hibachi is right, the whole experience and show? I said something to the cook and he got the "Manager" who i later found out was actually the owner. He was so rude raising his voice "well this is what hibachi is!" Mind you, I've been to hibachi a million times, nevermind the fact I've been there at least 50! I paid for the one drink we each had and left. It was beyond ridiculous and unprofessional. I typically order the Chicken with Broccoli or the Mongolian Beef with white rice, Crab Rangoons, and Hot & Sour soup. I think the food itself is fairly tasty, but not the best Chinese I have had. I do prefer this establishment over Beverly Jade. Quick and easy pick-up is also a plus. Tried their sushi. The Mikado Signature maki was fresh and so pretty.
