Four of us visited Oye's for dinner on a busy Saturday evening. While we expected a wait due to the crowd, what was disappointing was the lack of service once seated. We sat for about 10 minutes before anyone came to our table, and when a server finally arrived, drinks were rushed out and it felt like we were pressured to place our food order immediately. One member of our group is gluten-free, and while they did offer a gluten-free menu, it lacked creativity and felt like an afterthought compared to the regular menu. We also didn't feel confident that the allergy was taken seriously. The server didn't ask many questions or clearly communicate any precautions regarding cross-contamination, which is something we've experienced at many other restaurants. The food itself was okay, but nothing memorable. The gluten-free chicken and vegetables were extremely bland and lacked flavor. The chicken also seemed undercooked, which was concerning. We ordered four different sushi rolls, and overall I'd rate the sushi about a 5/10. The spicy edamame leaned much sweeter than spicy, although some people may enjoy that flavor profile. The crab rangoons were decent but nothing special. Throughout the meal, service continued to be lacking. We never received a check-in after our food was delivered and had to flag down our server multiple times just to get water refills. The lack of attentiveness from the staff was frustrating, especially considering the prices. The restaurant has plenty of seating, but it was very loud, making conversation difficult at times. Overall, the experience wasn't terrible, but it certainly didn't justify the cost. Unfortunately, it's not a place I'd recommend to friends, and I don't see myself returning. read more

I hadn't been to Oye's in a while but stopped in for lunch not long ago. The experience was wildly different from the last time. I don't know if it was the pandemic, but the quality of everything is worse. I was surprised that they don't even offer chopsticks anymore. It's almost like they've given up. We've dined here for years, but something terrible has happened to Oye. We usually like to dine here before seeing a show at Imax theater, just a few steps away. In the past the sushi, chinese food and drinks were good. Not on our last visit. It seems there is no oversight or concerned management here anymore. We arrived and barely acknowledged by three young woman at the front desk. Once brought us to our table and roughly placed the menus down along with a pencil that dropped to the floor. We all saw it, including her, and she said, "oh it fell", and walked away. OK. Perhaps the most disappointing sushi item we ordered was the snow crab maki, usually a highlight, but the shrimp tempura used inside the roll was cold, soggy and tasteless. We commented to the waitress that this sushi seemed off and she said she would mention it to the chef. That was the end of that. Nothing was done. You don't even get a fortune cookie at the end of the meal anymore. While this place used to be packed, and I would need to make a reservation, there was no surprise that there were only two other tables seated. I would not be surprised if this location closes soon, sadly that was how bad our experience was. What a loss for Reading. read more

Great gluten free options! So difficult to find Chinese food with gluten free options. This is the place.

Avoid. Not recommended. We wanted Chinese for Christmas and Oye's is known for having gluten free options. We ended up ordering takeout, were sorely disappointed-and hungry. The entrees were flavorless. Not just bland, but in some cases unidentifiable. For example, shrimp fried rice. It consisted of 2 ingredients-plain white rice and shrimp. No tamari, no egg, not a vegetable in sight. Really, just hard white rice and shrimp. The chicken and beef dishes had visible ingredients, but had no flavor. Also, there was no regular rice given or offered at all. So we had entrees on, nothing. To top it off, they gave glutenous fortune cookies. Thankfully, we identified them before consumption. We have no intention to return. So disappointing! read more

First time going here. Very cute place. I went during between lunch and dinner on a Saturday so it was a little quiet. Probably their down time. Bartender was really nice. Started off with an espresso martini. It was good. I ordered the Thai "tong yong" soup, it's normally called Thai tom yum. It was tasty, the chicken was tender. There's usually shrimp in this soup as well and different veggies in there. Never had pea-pods in there before. Sexy girl maki was good. The mango sauce was very light. It has spicy salmon, tuna, yellowtail topped with tuna, salmon, avocado and the mango sauce with a jalapeno. Also had uni sashimi and scallop sashimi. Both were good and it was a good amount compared to other restaurants that I've been to. All and all I would go there again to try more items on the menu. read more

My wife just experienced the worst customer service ever from the manager of this location. We have been customers for 5+ years but will not be returning after tonight. Look at the two small 1oz cups of duck sauce they provided for a family of 4 ordering large appetizers (I.e., chicken fingers, crab rangoons, etc). Also, we ordered the beef and mushroom with no mushrooms (just beef) and received other veggies which wasn't a big deal but the meat was lightly coated in sauce (extremely dry). We usually get a nice amount of sauce and serve over rice but this was not the usual. When we called to voice our concerns the manager first HUNG UP ON US! We called back and she basically said we were lying even going to ask the chef if he put sauce on the food and obviously he said yes...... CHECK OUT THE PICTURES FOR YOURSELF. Service has gone downhill. Bartender needs to find other employment. Yelling at customers; whispering about customers. Mistreating at least one customer creates a bad atmosphere. We used to call women like her "tarts" because she is only interested in serving the men, in any capacity. She really degrades the restaurant. One customer was told he had to button his shirt (a while back), so he buttoned one button. She insisted it had to be completely buttoned. He left. (It only reads "shirt required", doesn't read it has to be buttoned.) It's a shame because Karen is a great hostess and owner. She just needs to get rid of the dead wood. The food is still fairly good, but I am not an Asian food connoisseur. I wanted to send an email to the owners or contact someone through social media: no such contact available. Another date night, yes it is most every Saturday night, and the choice was sushi, so we went to Oye's. Oye's is a combination Japanese/Chinese restaurant with an excellent sushi selection, with many a special roll. The sushi is made to order, and if you so chose, you could watch the sushi chef in action. Happy to report that it is really, really fresh. If you have ever had sushi that is not, then you know how important freshness is. The unagi is exceptional!!! There are plenty of different, interesting rolls too, so there is choice for everyone. We did have some shumai as well, but they were less than ideal, a bit "doughy" and they came out a bit cold. Oh, well, you can't win em all I guess. We do like wine with our sushi, she had a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and I had the house Chardonnay, both paired well with the sushi. Final word about service, it was exceptionally quick. Shumai, wine and seaweed salad were out almost immediately, with the sushi not far behind. All of this in a relaxed, comfortable setting. Go there, you will not be disappointed. We went here because it's my daughter's favorite Chinese food. So many things were wrong. First - the waiter was rude - he brought waters to the table and left. Finally took our drink order and then finally food. When he delivered the food - he LITERALLY NEVER CAME BACK. haha! The food has gone very much downhill. Even my daughter said it. When it was time to pay we had to get the hostess to give us our bill and I wrapped up a few leftovers. When I said the waiter never came back - she said he was busy! You think? We have had some good experiences ordering takeout in the past but tonight's was very disappointing. The avocado salad was delicious but the portion was quite small. The shrimp tempura roll and the Hawaiian Sunshine rolls were both fine. The Drunken noodles though just ruined the entire dinner. Noodles and chicken were both quite dry. Not to be deterred by the lack of moisture and flavor i was persevering through and about half way through I bit an into something not quite right. This was the scene nye at 6:30 pm. It was mobbed and chaos with 100s of people until the police came. No organization whatsoever. At 6:30 they were still filling the orders at 5pm and we were told to return to our cars and they would call or text when our order was ready. It's now noon the next day and never received our food or a call or text and the phone was busy all night. Horrible service from a greedy company who couldn't fill the amount of orders they took. No apology. No cancelling of orders. Zero stars. Don't support businesses like this when so many other restaurants are struggling. read more

New to Reading from Seattle. Decided to get Chinese food and Oye came up. Why not, voted best Asian restaurant in Reading multiple years. I ordered online last night and never received anything. Called this morning and they said they had cancelled the order and refunded me. This would have been nice to know last night! Admittedly I did order later at night, but they were still open according to their website and I was able to complete the order and received email confirmation. Either fix this or don't take orders so late. I've never tried the food, but this process has turned me off. I went to this location years ago and i decided to go back for lunch. Food was salty but that was the least of the issues. There are flees and or tiny bugs as they were crawling on me. I live just down the street from Oye's, and it's been a reliably good place for a variety of Asian cuisines. That's a huge plus when eating here, there really is something for everyone and you're not limited to one type of food. They also have a gluten-free menu, and there's live jazz on Friday nights. It's always clean, they take reservations, and if you don't make a reservation the wait usually isn't too bad (unless it's a Friday night or you're ordering takeout on New Year's Eve). I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there, from the sushi to the Sesame Chicken. Their Pad Thai is pretty on-point too, and I highly recommend the Yaki Udon Noodles. They've got some interesting cocktails, although I tend to stick to wine. Their pours are decent. The only negative about Oye's is that their service is on the slower side - it's been slow every time I've been there, regardless of the day or time. You'll definitely be waiting at least half an hour for your food. There's also a delay with the waiters greeting you, taking your drink order, your meal order, bringing the check, etc. Still, despite the wait I think they're totally worth it. read more

Mixed reviews! The gluten free menu and the prices called out to me when searching for a place to go with friends. While I was disappointed with my entree the Chow Mein Foon (stir fried rice noodle, chicken and broccoli) the appetiser Chicken Lettuce Wrap Chicken was great. The wine pours are good and the staff are nice, they try their best. Wanted to love this place for the menu and will possibly try again but not any time soon. read more

The place is beautiful inside with nicely folded napkins, a live band, and comfortable atmosphere. Waited a bit too long to be seated and waiter was occupied for a little too long before getting us our drinks. Made up for it by getting the food out very quickly and it was delicious and well presented. Only other mentionable thing is having to wait for refills. read more
