What is not to like about Harrington's? I have been in a couple of times now and have had consistently good experiences. On my visits, I had Sam Adams Juicy IPAs with a really good beef stew. Another time, I went with a Maine Lunch and corned beef and cabbage over St. Patrick's weekend. My companion had a chicken wrap and a couple of glasses of Chardonnay on one visit, and the Irish stew with more Chardonnay on another. The menu is strong and covers all the classic pub options well. I have posted photos of it. Inside has that classic Irish pub feel. Cozy, a little tight when it gets busy, but that is part of the charm. It tends to draw a crowd, which is always a good sign. Service was decent. Maybe not the fastest, but always friendly and courteous, which matters more in a place like this. Overall, this is a reliable local spot with good food, solid drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. I am writing this after just a couple of visits, but I am sure I will be back. Two thumbs up. Had a terrible experience there last evening. My wife and I were sat down at a table and no one showed up. A waitress, manager, no one. Every time we tried to flag someone down they pretended no to hear or see me. The owner, short, blond straight haired woman walked by and when we spoke to her she gave us the meanest look and kept walking. It was like a twilight zone episode. We got up and left. Wasn't necessarily the worst pub I have been to but it was mediocre at best. Service was pretty bad, and the food was mid, definitely can't say I would rave about it. Had my daughters baby shower this past weekend in the upper level function room. Having it there was the best decision I made. We had the brunch menu and it was excellent. I would say 3.5 stars rounded up because the food we ordered was great and the food we saw go by looked great too. We got there around 6 on Friday night and was pretty busy but we got seated right away. Our waitress came by quickly to get our drinks. We noticed every other table had corn bread, but we were never offered any and couldn't really ask for some because she never came back after dropping the drinks and taking our food orders. It looked good. Would have been nice to have been offered the same as everyone else. The food runner tried to drop food off that wasn't ours. When we shook our heads no, not for us she still almost put the food down and just kind of stood there. Luckily it was the table next to ours. Then she came back again with another order and just placed the food on the table on the other side of ours and walked away even when those people said it didn't look like their food. Another server came by, asked if it was ours and gave it to us even though the plates were at another table and touched by other people. After having worked in a restaurant myself, I know this is inappropriate to serve food already dropped at another table. However, we saw they didn't actually touch our food and we didn't want to wait another 25 minutes for fresh plates (not that this option was even offered to us.) Waitress came by before we even had a bite to ask how it was and we never saw her the rest of the night. Bill was dropped off and picked up by what seemed to be the manager. My burger was very good and I would get it again. My husband really enjoyed his fish and chips. We would definitely come back BUT there clearly needs to be more training on food delivery to tables as twice in one night dropping food at the wrong table isn't great. A local pub befitting an Irish flair, features a menu loaded with tasty food such that you think you're over in another country with dark wood floors and walls and a blackboard with the dozen or so Irish drafts they feature hanging on the wall. While seating is small tables for 2 or 4, the bars stools are overwhelming with an invitation to sit on them and belly to the bar. The male and female bar keepers are very friendly and quick to greet you, knowing that you must have a powerful thirst that needs attention. lol. That's quickly solved with the vast variety of tap beers and a cold glass, or not, that suits the beer you choose. I prefer lighter beers, so I ordered a glass of ale suggested by the barkeep. Spot on!! Slipped a one page menu and pointed to the similar blackboard with the day's specials. Again, I tossed the choice to the barkeep on which was the best crowd pleaser. He chose a shepherds pie and said it would be a while as they are made to order. No problem! It arrived about 30 minutes later and I was into my second draft. Piping hot served on a wooden plate gave the feel that I was indeed in Ireland. It was good not great but perhaps I was expecting something more!?? You survive because of "Customer"loyalty. Your food and drinks are too expensive for this type of "pub". Your food is just ok. Your customer service lacks people to actually service guests. The bartenders are doing three different jobs and not all of them are good doing the one thing. They're just working harder. The owners are present and watch all of this unfold while making a lot of money using a small staff and charging high prices. They don't seem to mind when it gets over crowded. Cha-Ching. Nice Irish Pub in Wakefield. They sometimes have live music which is a nice treat, I think on weekend/nights. Has been pretty lively the times I have gone, but not overwhelming. The food is excellent! Shepard's Pie is not something I would usually get at a restaurant but theirs was superb!! It's a smaller joint but they do a great job there. Some (very limited) parking right in front, but there is a lot right across the street that you will have better luck at. We really enjoyed it here. We ordered the quesadilla and potato wedges. The quesadillas were awesome they were stuffed and very flavorful! The potato wedges needed more cheese and stuff on top. We had the shepards pie, the chicken pot pie, the farmhouse burger and the ultimate grilled cheese patty. The shepards pie was disappointing as it barely had any potatoes. Meat and potatoes, thats what it is and we got meat with a couple dollops of potatoes on top. The pot pie was the most delicious thing we have eaten in a restaurant! EVER! The crust was flaky and the chicken was juicy and moist. The farmhouse burger was delicious and the chipotle mayo was awesome! The grilled patty fell flat. The cheese was not melted and it needed seasonings. Would recommend putting chipotle mayo on it. Overall, we loved this place. The waiters were nice. The people inside were happily enjoying themselves. The one thing we do wish is that their sodas were better tasting and they served bottled water. Cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Burgers are disappointing unless you like them well done. They do ask how you like it cooked, but never deliver. Guiness beef stew was underseasoned and the meat was pretty tough. Comfort foods like shepard's pie, chicken pot pie and potato skins are good, fish and chips are excellent. Friendly Pub Atmosphere. Sat at the bar early evening on a Saturday. Hubby ordered a Guinness and I ordered a pomegranate cosmo. Cosmo was just ok and mostly pomegranate juice. We ordered a quesadilla which was very good. Update- bartender came over and asked how I liked my drink and I told her about the pomegranate juice and she remade my drink! Seriously! Sunday, April 3rd I came here with my sister and hubby as she was visiting from out of town and wanted to give her an adults out night without the kids. It was just dinner and we honestly were in no rush. We came at about 8 pm. The place was pretty empty and were seated right away. Our waitress came up and said something about not having enough coffee yet. We all laughed and ordered our drinks. They came about five minutes later. No complimentary soda bread. waitress came back to take order and we had wanted an app so we ordered that along with entrees. 15 min later our entrees arrived. NO APP. The rest of the evening the waitress was so rude and didn't stay long enough at table for us to even answer any of her questions. We might have stayed for quite a few more drinks but this waitress was practically pushing us out the door! It might be quite a while before we decide to go back again, so disappointing. read more

Me and my friends used to come here for drinks. I usually pay cash because we'd pay together, but one time I had to pay with my card and we did seperate bills, but payed the tip in cash. A couple days later I checked my bank account and realized that a tip had been added to my card. I called and spoke with the manager and he told me that they usually add the tip and then take it off later???? Why would you do that? If the service was bad, what if I didn't want to tip? I started out my evening planning on going to the Indian restaurant next door, but upon arrival, I discovered it had closed it's doors and long departed from this world. So I went to Harringtons instead. Big mistake. First, I was seated, and second, I was ignored by the waitress who went to every table around me. Ten minutes went by, and she took my drink order and brought me complimentary stale cornbread. Another ten minutes, and I got my drink in time to quench my dry throat, parched due to the stale cornbread. Ordered french onion soup and the zucchini chips, but what I got (about 20 minutes later) was a bowl of brown salty broth with cheese floating on about 5 croutons, and 10 huge hunks of zucchini battered in fried chicken batter, with some nasty salad dressing as a dip. Now, I had invested a good 45 minutes into Harringtons at this point, so I ate as much as I could (which was less than 33% of each dish), paid my $14 tab, and left to make it to my meeting that was about 5 minutes away. I spent the whole meeting watching / feeling my fingers swell from the salt, and burping up nasty zucchini-onion flavored stench the entire time. No one sat by me, and it was probably a good thing. We've only been a couple of times, but we really enjoyed our visit a few days ago. Our waitress was very friendly & attentive, and our meals were better than we expected. It was a rainy & cold night, so we were looking forward to comfort food. Starting off with the cornbread was a nice treat, and our entrees were just what we were looking for. We got the drunken tips, and Guinness stew, and they were both delicious. My steak tips were very tender, and the bourbon bbq sauce had just enough of a kick. I'm so torn about this place, and that makes me sad. Here's why: Their food is sooooo good! They give you Irish soda bread before your meal comes. It's delicious. Their Sheppard's pie and Guinness stew are constant cravings of mine, especially with a lovely Guinness to go along with it. And it's so close to my house, that its a great, fast place to get dinner when I don't feel like cooking. They have a full bar, and tvs if you want to catch the game. It's small, but quaint for a cozy date. My problem is that the service isn't that good. Most of the time, our waitress will disappear (which is quite an achievement, as the place is so small) and if you want another drink you may have to get one at the bar yourself. And it's not to say the wait staff isn't nice, they just perform quite a disappearing act from time to time. Even the hostess isn't there all the time. Sometimes, you go in and the only staff member you see is the bartender, and they're too busy making drinks to seat you. And thats on a slow day, when it's just you and a few people at the bar. Forget it if it's a packed house. So the food is great. The service, not so much. read more

I was happy to find this out since I am always running behind and I am part Irish. At least the part that matters, the liver. So when I go to a Pub I am never in a hurry for food only drink! So stop belly aching. That being said the Food at Harrington's was par for the Irish Pub course. The chowder was good and the Reuben was pretty Standard fare. The pub had a party going on upstairs with a Cowboy/Western them. Everyone who walked in had a Ten Gallon hat on as they went upstairs to the party which was accompanied by a roar. Harrington's - my home away from home. You always solve all of my problems when I a) don't feel like cooking or b) takeout seems too lazy. Great food, personal service and and a great location in Wakefield. We always feel welcome here. The gouda quesadillas are a sure bet, as are the Irish specials on the Tuesday night menu.
