I used to love this place to come and relax after work. I took my husband tonight for the first time and we had the absolute worst service I think I've gotten in the longest time. Our waitress was absent most of the time, and when she was there she was very rude. They ran out of bud light on tap, our waitress took our food off the table before we could tell her to stop since we weren't finished, and then she had the audacity to take the signed and tipped check right off the table in front of us before we left!! This is my home away from home! It is a cute and friendly Irish pub but the bonus is that the food here is delicious! They have great appetizers and the salmon salad entree is wonderful. Harrington's features local bands on Thurs, Fri and Saturday nights and that keeps the place buzzing. Harrington's is small but on St. Patrick's Day (I HIGHLY recommend spending a St. Patrick's Day here!) both floors are open. They have a second floor room suitable for parties and functions. I have come here to drink before and it has always been fun because they have live bands, but this review is mostly based on the party I booked for the upstairs function room. I booked a party for my husband a month ago. It was for a weekend night and the Irish pub atmosphere was perfect for all my friends and family. I came in for one meeting and told them exactly what I wanted and all I did was show up. Everything was great. There was plenty of food and the servers/bartenders were great. They even helped me with my dessert meltdown when I ended up having no cake for the party. The local bakery did not make me the cake I ordered a month ago. I ended up only having some cupcakes to serve for dessert and they brought up some cupcake towers and helped me make them look pretty. If you guys at Harringtons read this thanks so much for helping me out! It was one of the first parties I have ever hosted where I didn't feel like the host because I was having so much fun. Everyone I talked to had a blast. I would definitely book another nighttime party here again. read more

I ordered a steak tip salad to go. I got home, opened the box and the onion rings were slightly soggy, but still tasted good not a gross fried flavor. The balsamic dressing was delicious, like a glaze. The lettuce was crisp, fresh and green. Tomatoes were a little too diced for my liking but not the end of the world..... The steak tips: 5 absolutely awful. Chewy. Almost like ground beef in a steak tip form. Not edible. I honestly was so disappointed with the steak. The rest of the salad was fine, but for 14.99 I expected more than romaine lettuce and diced tomatoes with semi soggy onion rings on top. :/ read more

Food was just ok. I would go for a drink but not to eat. One time I ordered a soda water as I wasn't drinking that night and it was flat and the bartender said she wouldn't charge me. I have lived in Wakefield for eight years and Harrington's has been my go-to place for dinner or a drink. The people here giving it one star and saying they don't have any Irish food need to learn to flip the flippin' menu over! They have a whole section of Irish food including Shepard's Pie, Beef in Guinness, Corned Beef and Cabbage and more. I've honsstly never had anything I didn't like here. I love their Fish & Chips! Harrington's is arguably the best pub in all of Wakefield. It's not as large as some places but it's got great food and service. They also have live music some nights and it's a great place to unwind. If you don't like noise, that might be an issue because it can get noisy inside. Parking is pretty easy with the lot right across the street and if you're lucky you can park right in front of the pub. My experiences, food and drinks here have been nothing the stellar. Their Oatmeal Cookie martini is amazing! My wife also rented their top floor room for my graduation party and everything was awesome. Great service, great food, great fun. read more

Harringtons is a pub/restaurant with a tiny inside space that the owners have made the most of. The food here used to be REALLY good - more upscale than you'd expect from a place like this - and I used to rave about it. Sadly, these days the food is pretty much 'home style cooking' or 'pub grub' - definitely nothing to write home about, but it's filling and tasty. The bar side has also gone down in quality. Nowadays it's a bit on the dirty/smelly side. The owners really need to pull their socks up. I don't know what the problem is: maybe the old owners sold it; maybe they're not treating their staff right; maybe they can't find good staff; maybe they're so busy that they don't have time to clean up properly; or maybe they've just lost interest in the place. Whatever the problem is, it's a real shame because this used to be a little gem in the middle of Wakefield. Hopefully Harringtons can overcome its current problems and get back in the game. I want the old Harringtons back. If they just took a bit of extra time for cleaning, hired a good chef and made sure that their staff was happy this place would be back on track. read more

I've been a fan of this bar for quite some time, I actually recall sitting at the bar the day they opened around 2004ish. This is a great place to take the family for lunch on a Sunday afternoon or to hang out with friends and colleagues after work. The menu is somewhat limited (which I enjoy, can't stand a cheese cake factory type menu) and the beer selection is always seasonal and great, often mixing in local micro brews. Which brings me to my request, can you bring back the Fisherman's Ale from the Cape Ann Brewing Co. Live bands are fun to watch on Saturday nights. I recommend this place if your looking for a great local bar with a little less of a townie feel. read more

I thought I was under dressed when I first walkedI thought I was under dressed when I first walked in. The place looks like an upscale Pub or a bistro - lots of wood - it looks great. Draft beer selection was okay, no craft beer but enough variety to satisfy everyone. The bartender was friendly and extremely good at what she did - very attentive to patrons, drinks, water glasses, barback duties Etc. The beer was all good - they take good care of their taps. I really wanted to give this place three stars, but the food. The food was very, very average, a huge letdown. My friend and I tried every kind of wing, the burger, french fries, and the clam chowder. All things a pub should have been able to hit out of the park. My friend's Burger was overdone and didn't look very good, the fries didn't have a lot of flavor, the wings were dry and appeared to just have had some sauce dumped on them as it was coming off of them and pooling in the bottom. The Chowder was thick, a good consistency, but the clams were tough and there was way too much pepper. read more

My review would potentially be better if they branded themselves as just an American Bar rather than an Irish Pub. Only 2 Irish beers on tap (Guinness and Smithwick's), at least the Guinness looked like a good pour. First, our food came out in under 5 minutes. That's always a scary sign - especially when you've ordered a shepherd's pie. My main course was neither shepherd nor pie. It was beef, so technically "cottage", but I was willing to look past that. The meal however, was in a bowl and more closely resembled a beef chili with 5 dollops of mashed potatoes in an odd X pattern. Definitely not baked and no "crispy mash". It was evident they just dropped it in a bowl and piped mash into it. My husband had the Guinness stew. He says it was "just all right", but I could smell the raw Guinness from across the table. You could tell it wasn't cooked properly. Total disappointment in the Irish food space. The staff was nice and you could tell it was a place the locals go. Different tables were waving to each other. We might give it another try just as a local bar and steer clear of the Irish food. read more

All I want to point out is that the Shepherds Pie is wonderful. I can make it myself but I have to admit that it is one of the best I have tasted. The service - ahhh not so wonderful but tolerable (smiles and happiness go a long way with me) As an appetizer I had something green, gooey and yummie (don't ask me exactly what - I was too busy talking!) So I had never been in Wakefield before, and wanted a small, Irish pub style restaurant/bar. I was hoping to find something decent. Harringtons more than met my expectations. This place was great! It was a cozy, little Irish pub, and when I was there, they even had live music performing. The pub itself was in the smaller size, but I liked it. It created a small, friendly, intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a night out with friends! The servers were very attentive and friendly, even on a busy night! I felt welcomed in this place. The menu is simple, but they offer great selections, and that seem to always have specials, which is also great. The food I had was not only good, but that take pride in presentation, which is also nice to see! Overall, I thought it was a great spot, especially for a smaller town. If I'm ever that way again, I would def stop in! read more

While not the best Irish pub I've been to, this is not a bad place at all for Irish food, beer, and entertainment if you're north of Boston. Our one visit there had some highs, food-wise (the Guinness stew was fantastic), while service was efficient if not all that friendly. We went on a Wednesday night, which is when they have Irish sessions, but we arrived too early to get to see any sessions, unfortunately. I threw my girlfriend's surprise 30th Birthday Party here and it went perfectly. The server, Meg, did such a great job setting up the room, serving food, bar tending and making sure we had a great time. The private function room was decorated wonderfully and we added a few birthday decorations as well. The food was delicious! On the dinner buffet menu we chose the chicken, steak, ziti, vodka cream tomato sauce and the red bliss potatoes. I highly recommend having your function here! I keep my expectations low when dining @ an Irish pub. So, my review is qualified with "for an Irish pub". I've eaten there 4 times in the last few months. Service was always good, except for one crowded Friday night, which I would expect. Ive tried the burger, the wrap and the cubano, all were good. Cubano was made on bread that was too thick to really be a Cubano, but who orders a Cubano at an Irish pub. More importantly, who puts it on the menu! The beer choices on draft were solid, Guinness, Stella and a few others. Prices were the norm for the area and style. Overall, Ive never had a bad meal here, and Ive never been wow'd. Definitely worth a trip for an easy bite. Oh, and they easily accommodated a party of 6 with 1 infant and 1 toddler. read more

Harringtons is a solid restaurant in a town full of diners and pizza shops. When you step into Harringtons it feels like you have stepped foot in a real restaurant. Which is rare to do in a town like Wakefield. The town is full of average dining and boring entertainment. Harringtons, though not spectacular, is an extremely solid option if you want a nice juicy burger or some quick tasty appetizers. read more

I went to lunch at Harrington's today, got a red haired waitress (don't know her name) who was by far the rudest person I have ever had to deal with!! Referred to my lunch coworker as an idiot on more than one occasion. The candles on their tables are wax, have wicks but are battery operated. He mistakenly attempted to light it, and when she realized what he had done she flipped out, even after we offered to pay for it, she continued to berate us and brought another table of people in on it. Again we offered to pay for the candle, she proceeded to talk to someone on the phone loud enough for us to hear and again referred to him as an idiot. I would never set foot in that place again! They could offer me free lunch for the next year and I would refuse! Rich C may thinks it's acceptable to refer to customers as idiots and be generally rude to patrons but I don't and based on his response it's no small wonder he likes the place! Never. Again. Ever. Why wouldn't you try to do better, knowing that there's some great competition out there??? (Mmmm, Bunratty's maybe?) We have tried over the years to adopt Harrington's as our fun 'go-to' Irish bar, and we really wanted to like it. But it has failed us routinely. I'm not sure if it was the bouncer that insisted on taking a picture of our ID as we entered for St. Paddy's Day last year (Do bars DO this???) or if it was the bartender eating her dinner...approaching us to answer our annoying question...still chewing...serving our drinks...still chewing...as she told us the kitchen was closed and that there was nothing she could serve us to eat. (I should have asked her if she'd split her sandwich with me.) Life is short- eat good food, have good service, and create a great customer experience - but don't do it at Harrington's...cause ya can't! read more

Went there on a quiet afternoon. We ended up seated near the door with plenty of open seats which I thought was strange. The menu is big. We both went with the boiled dinner. The bread we were served wasn't very good, bordering on inedible. The boiled dinners were just okay. The meat was super dry but the rest of the sides were great and what you'd expect in a boiled dinner. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us several times. The price was good. Parking is tricky to find. If I'm craving a boiled dinner or other Irish fare, I'd probably return. Nothing stands out as awesome nor horrible so very middle of the road (and that's not a bad thing). read more

I have eaten here before and came here for drinks with my friends, but nothing compares to the shower that was thrown for me upstairs. My besties threw me a bridal shower there and it was simply amazing and elegant. They have an upstairs venue with candles, dimly lit and a fully stocked bar!! (Which I immediately ran to.) We had buffet style whisky chicken with potato wedges, veggies and pasta with broccoli and Alfredo sauce. They also had that delicious corn bread at each table, which I was in love with. This was the best shower I could ever ask for and absolutely would book a venue there again! read more

I read one of the other reviews, and I am dumbfounded! We are away for much of the summer, but we look forward to returning to our neighborhood "Cheers" where everybody knows your name. Mary Ellen greeted us with her sunny smile, and we went to the bar for our 20 minute wait for a table--which was really barely 10 minutes. I had the one of the specials--scallops in a vodka sauce-- and my husband had the grilled salmon. Both were delicious; so much so, that my husband finished his plate and then finished mine! That's ok--it's my secret diet plan. All the staff there is wonderful! Elaina was our waitress tonight--she is so quick and so funny, she cracks us up every time. Donna also stopped by just to say "hi" and because she is such a sweetie. I guess any place can have an off night, but we have never experienced one at Harringtons. The food is always great and we always feel so welcome! It is our Friday night haunt from October through June, and they couldn't be better!! read more

My husband dined there and ordered chicken wings to bring home to me. They sent him back w a plain chicken wings with no sauce on it. I can't believe that the waitress didn't ask him what sauce he'd like and the kitchen also failed to ask the waitress what sauce he'd like. Loud and obnoxious regulars, it's an Irish pub, so no shocker there. Service is embarrassing. My waitress was confused and rude. The wings come in 4 flavors, buffalo, bourbon, bbq and plain. We tried them all and they were pretty good. Crispy and tasty with good dipping condiments. However, for 75 cents each, I should be getting a full wing and not a bone with a scrap of meat on it. I got the mushroom and onion burger. It's a standard messy burger on brioche. Nothing to rave about. However, they do know how to make perfect "well done" fries. Overall....a no go. read more
