post 1917 is a beautiful restaurant in north reading with a perfect ambiance for a great date night, family or friends dinner, or even a solo evening. ally is a fantastic bartender, anticipating any needs or wants at the perfect timing. i had a wonderful evening for my first visit here, and i really loved the menu selection. i don't remember which drink i ordered, but it was so great, I had two. we started with oysters (from ny, i forget the exact location) which were fresh (ask for horseradish if desired), and their crab cake which has the perfect texture and taste with sizable lumps of crab, and perfect complementary flavors with their sauce. their ribeye at medium-rare is perfect, ask them to cut it for you if you desire. for sides, their carrots and exotic mushrooms both were delicious with ideal flavors of seasoning & marinades. oysters 7/10 crab cake 9/10 ribeye 10/10 carrots 10/10 exotic mushrooms 10/10 overall, i really enjoyed my first visit here at post 1917 steakhouse and will absolutely return. ambiance: 5/5 food: 4.7/5 drinks: 5/5 service: 5/5 post 1917: 4.9/5 read more

A nice spot in reading ma in the old post office. Just a heads up ,parking may be challenging. Inside the restaurant there is a nice atmosphere, big bar and everyone is very friendly as you walk in. Our service was awesome !!! Keep in mind you will have to place all apps and main course all at once. I believe there a time limit for dinner but our waitress was super cool and did not mentioned it any time until the end. So my wife and I didn't feel rushed which was nice. Drinks are very good here! We tried few different drinks and all of them were excellent. Food here was on the money. Everything we ordered was tasteful, no complaints. We ordered the long bone steak . Recommend. Ok probably won't be going back. Way overpriced. If you want to charge Boston steakhouse prices you need to back it up. Our waiter was mid 70s and all disheveled. Not top notch at all. Pouring our martinis and watching them splash all over our menus and arms wasn't a great start. Oysters were ok, not cleaned good, crab cakes were good. We felt rushed the entire time even though the place was half empty. The specials were 2 menu items that they added crab or lobster too , very creative lol. Seriously... ordered 2 filets medium, the amount of salt you could taste was ridiculous and one filet was cold to touch and raw. They took the whole plate away and must have just put in the oven, everything on the plate was now burnt except the steak which was still rare at best. Really fun and entertaining dinner experience night out at Post 1917 in Reading AKA Jason Carron. Great for date nights. Atmosphere/Decor: Really interesting and unique interior formerly a Post Office (hence the name) with exposed brick, a tall windows, and a very long three-sided bar that makes up most of the restaurant. Very happening and social scene. Most folks dressed business casual and to impress. Lots of birthdays, regulars, and lookers. Big glam meets classic steakhouse hybrid vibes. We sat at a booth behind the bar and were initially concerned about placement but glad for the happening scene afterwards. The legroom was fairly tight for the taller folks. The booth was a little tight with space for all our food and drinks (e.g., four people, four cocktails, four waters, three appetizers was tight). Service: Very attentive. We had great servers, very attentive, fun, offered helpful insights and thoughts, and took great care of us ala traditional steakhouse norms. No delays. No complaints. Food: We really enjoyed our meal. The appetizers were fun. The restaurant is gluten free in homage to one of the owners(?) kids who's found it hard to eat out. You probably wouldn't notice that it's gluten free, as whatever almond/corn/rice flour they're using closely mimics mouth feel and taste. We were a little surprised the lamb app was (gluten-free) breaded but very moist and flavorful. Our steaks were all very good. I had the ribeye and it was a nice cut, aged (23-30 days?), and cooked exactly as desired. Cauliflower was decent and voluminous but not amazing. Wedge decent. Filets good. The chicken parm sounded very intriguing -- different than the usual fare and apparently one of their most popular dishes and huge but we will save it for next time. Fun desert options. Drinks: Great dirty martini. Fun cocktails for the table -- some great some just good. All boozy. The Whistle Pig tasting desert option was a a great value even if just for the 12 year XII at that price. They have a few rare allocated bourbons and whiskeys. Price: A much better deal than Boston steakhouses in general. This would have been twice the price if downtown there, and they're clearly enticing folks to make the drive. Please let me start by saying I had heard some good things about your restaurant, which is why I was excited to go give it a try. It was two of my friends birthdays, so I figured we would go there. Maybe that's the problem, my expectations were set high. Ok prior to arriving, I called to confirm dress code, if we could wear shorts, since it was 100° out but I was told no, it is business casual. When the three of us arrived, I think we were the only three in business casual attire and everyone had shorts on. The hostess brought us to the first table in the room by the entrance, which would just be a passage way for everyone. I asked if we could sit at any of the many other empty tables, and she said yes. We were then introduced to our waitress, who started off as a pleasant person. She took our orders, and off she went. As soon as she put the food on the table and before anyone had a bite, she asked " how is everything " and we said we will let her know when we tried it! We never saw her again until it was time for dessert, which I informed her that it was both of my friends birthday, and she said we don't have cake, but we could order another dessert if we wanted, which we did. She brought it and quickly left. We each had our dessert, nothing left on the plates, she walks over with the bill in hand asking if we wanted coffee. Would you want coffee if we are being presented with the bill? Let's talk food and pricing. Your pricing is exceptionally expensive. I don't have a problem paying higher prices for quality food and service, but we didn't have quality food or quality service. I had the NY strip which was so full of fat, you just couldn't eat. One friend had the paella, which he said both the lobster and shrimp tasted like rubber, way over cooked. The last friend had the flank steak but I think the forgot to cook. He attempted to send it back, but our waitress was no where to be found. Oh let's talk the lamb chops. Probably the worst any of us had. How about the Caesar salads we got. A rare find in the suburbs, located in Reading and in a beautiful renovated former post office building. The ambiance is... well... amazing. Comfortable booths with flora everywhere and where the owners greet you at the door to escort you to your table. Appetizers and drinks to start. Great wine selection. This is for sure a steak place and aged beef and preparation are well worth the price. Fabulous dessert selection and delicious steaks. Business casual is the dress code and parking lot is next door. Heard so much about this place and really wanted to stay local so for my birthday the husband took me here. The ambiance is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing and modern but not in a weird way. Our server (whose name I have forgotten) was so lovely and friendly and attentive (not overly attentive). What made this special is going to come as a bit of a surprise I think. Never have I been to a restaurant where they have handed me a birthday card. Never. Except here. As a girl who doesn't have family here it's the small things that can move you to tears. This was the extra step that will list this place as one of my favorites. For starters we had the octopus was lovely, wish there were a few more potatoes on the plate as they had this lovely sauce on them. I had the filet and it was so delicious. I've been here twice now and the food and service is fantastic. Very glad to see a steakhouse outside Boston with such good food. The interior is well designed and modern. Comfortable with great spaces and a wonderful bar. What I do have to comment on are two things. The first is a pretty big deal in my mind. The menu online showed prices for some steaks that were almost $20 less than what was printed at the restaurant. That's not cool. I understand prices have gone up but you need to update the website with current prices. Second is that your gin selection needs to be upped. I've been here a couple of times and it's a wonderful restaurant. Beautiful space, very well decorated, feels very high end with being comfortable at the same time. There is a dining room and large bar area so plenty of seating options. I've always had a reservation here, but they do take walk-ins as well. Staff is very friendly and attentive. The highlights here are definitely the cocktails, steaks, and desserts. Cocktails are creative and well balanced, comparable if not better to ones I've had in Boston high end restaurants. Steaks are always perfectly cooked and I love to add on a sauce or butter which really enhances the steak. We had the key lime tart at our last visit and it was absolutely heavenly: light, sweet, buttery, with the perfect amount of lime. The misses are some appetizers and sides. The wagyu beef dumplings were ok but did not seem like a steak house appetizer, they were somewhat dry and one dimensional. I did enjoy the wedge salad, would definitely get again. I've had a few sides here, the corn is excellent, Brussels sprouts were ok, and the mashed potatoes were a little under-seasoned and cold. We were greeted and assigned to our table, which was very comfortable and roomy. Our waitress came over and introduced herself twice. She came over to fill our water glasses and I had to ask for a clean glass without lipstick. She took our drink orders and twice throughout the night "forgot" one of the drinks in our party but did come back with it. The drinks were inconsistent. We went during Restaurant Week which if you choose to do that check the menu for pricing. The portions are considerably smaller and if you do not want to have the overcooked brownie for dessert you would get larger portions for less money depending on what you order. Ordering the chicken parm, had very little flavor. Very plain sauce and tasteless pasta. I did have to ask for extra sauce and grated cheese. My husbands steak was not cooked as requested and had a heavy pepper topping. The cheesecake was very good. Servers came and went, it felt a little like we were being rushed through our meal. Throughout the night they were constantly spraying an aerosol cleaner to wipe down the glass door... I had been there at the bar in the past and would do that again but for dinner not so much, especially for the price. read more

Why are e wanted you this to be so good! Maybe my wife had bigger expectations than I did, she has seen this on the PHG and has heard about this place. Atmosphere was wonderful sat in a booth off of the bar. It was my wife's day, we expect a really good thing. Place looks amazing. We were told that they fire the entire order when it is place! So If you want an app and go from there they would Not fire it?? Ok! So we order the calamari and a wedge salad to split and ore Entrées. Calamari show up as well as the wedge salad! Ok? They take the salad away, to sit is food purgatory. We eat the calamari and by the time we get near the bottom, it is filled with the sauce, and it is just a pile of calamari mush. At this time my wife was not to happy, nor was the server Gina, the cosmo was horrible so she switched to wine. My wife was severed her Chilean sea bass and it was mostly clear in the centers, not well cooked, she complained to me about the lack of flavor. I had the rib eye, it was perfectly MR but it was fare from a 22oz, I know my beef! Like I said in the beginning, we wanted To love this place, Server is the main killer! $400+ and the service was watching the TV's. It was not busy, they knew it was my wife birthday!!! Tonight I dined at this restaurant for the first time. Everything was outstanding! The service was spectacular, I had Abby as my waitress. (She reminded me of Topanga from boy meets world)! I had the crab cakes along with the cod & key lime pie for dessert. They have an in house pastry chef who prepares all of the desserts. My favorite part of the experience is the aesthetic. This is the second time having dinner here. It was my son's suggestion and it's his favorite place. The place is nice, service is good but the prices are more inline with a Boston restaurant. I wanted a steak so I looked at the menu ahead of time and decided on the bone in ribeye. The price on the website was 79.00 dollars. However, on the menu at the restaurant was 91.00 dollars. I was asked by my son not to say anything to the waiter and I didn't. It was my choice to order it. Louis our always requested waiter is always professional , kind and ready to help. We went last night for an early Father's Day celebration. As most others have said, it is extremely loud and not easy to have conversations without yelling. The space is very cool though! Everyone in the party got a cocktail and enjoyed them. My husband and I got the clam chowder to start and it was very good. I got the chicken parm (pregnant and can only eat well done steak, no thanks) and it was a massive piece! Little disappointed it didn't come with pasta. Everyone else got some form of steak. My husband's was severely overcooked. He ordered medium rare and it came out medium well. Not a lot of flavor with it either. The mashed potatoes were flavorless, but creamy. The gluten free Mac and cheese was the best my sister in law has had! For the asparagus, we ordered for the five of us and there were only 6 pieces. For $12 that seems a little insane. For dessert, we ordered the cannoli zeppoles. Not sure what made them cannoli like, but we weren't really fans. We also got the gluten free chocolate mousse cake and everyone seemed to enjoy that. Full disclosure: I usually try to find something that was mediocre to mention in my reviews because I'm skeptical of restaurant reviews that find EVERYTHING to be five stars -- I could not at Post 1917. I will admit that I had not read any of the reviews before I visited the restaurant for dinner and didn't realize it was in a former post office building. So, it took a couple of drives around the block before I found it. Upon walking in, we immediately began to have a wonderful experience. The hostess greeted us warmly. The design and decor were meticulously executed. From the soft, velvety booth fabrics, to the smart choices in lighting fixtures, a classy vibe was created; reminded me of the bar at The Raffles, Boston. The food did not disappoint. The street corn is addictive. Not sure what kind of magic they're using, but if I could order it as an entree, I'd be all over it. Another favorite was the calamari and tempura lobster tail. There is something in that sauces that makes it addictive. The service was outstanding. Our waitress knew the menu cold, and made her own recommendations. The owner Jason, and the General Manger repeatedly stopped by to check on us, which is always a good sign for business. Overall, the atmosphere was excellent. My wife, brother and I went to Post 1917 on a Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. Service - The hostess was extremely pleasant and greeted us with a warm smile. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. I ordered a New York strip and my wife and brother ordered filet mignons. Our food came out within 15 minutes. Food - My steak was cooked exactly as I ordered - medium rare. The outside of the steak was perfectly crisped and the inside a juicy hot pink. I've eaten steaks at all of the top steakhouses in Boston and the north shore and would put Post 1917 up against any of them. The steak needed no condiments or sauces. It stood on its own and was so satisfying. Atmosphere - the owners did a great job paying careful attention to the style and design of the restaurant. Had dinner there for the first time on 9/20, made reservations , arrived on time and was immediately taken to a beautiful table right in the center of the main dining room. My girlfriend & I were very impressed with the table they gave us and both loved the decor and total vibe of the restaurant (so we were off to a great start)! Our server was Abbey who we found to be very pleasant and upbeat, she acknowledged that it was our first time in and warmly welcomed us , took our drink order and answered the few questions had. We decided to split the wedge salad as our appetizer and ordered our main entrees ( Halibut for me, paella for gf, both were exquisitely prepared and both were delicious). We decided against ordering any desserts, but weren't rushed so we lingered with our drinks and enjoyed the ambiance. We both agreed the restaurant is best suited for "special occasions" we were celebrating my gf's return home from being on a vacation to Italy with her best friends. Only "issues" we had was that the drink prices were a bit "steep" in our opinion and Chef/owner Jason walked passed our table several times but never spoke to us, although another gentleman stopped by and asked how everything was and then thanked us when we left, so we both enjoyed our overall dining experience at Post 1917. read more

Our server never introduced himself, stopped by the table far too infrequently, and I ended up waiting 15 minutes just to get cracked pepper for my Caesar salad. I ordered a dirty martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives, but the drink wasn't made properly--no stuffed olives, and it wasn't even dirty. I had to request additional olive juice. The lamb appetizer was also not good. For a bill that came to over $600 with tip, the quality and service fell far short of expectations. Only one person in our party ordered a Caesar salad, and even that was mishandled. For these prices in Reading Center, I would choose Capital Grille instead. I sat and waited for a fork while my appetizers were getting cold and my water was completely empty for some time. Our waiter had a very dull personality and was not at all engaging with our table. Post 1917 Steakhouse opened this week in the former Reading Post Office (moved across the street). The space was redone nicely which offers a casual upscale atmosphere with exposed brick walls, high ceilings with decorative lighting and the large windows. The front dinIng area has 10 tables with linen table covers & orchid and the bar area has high top tables, booths, and seating up at the large bar with bigscreen TV. The food menu offers prime steaks, seafood dishes, chicken, pasta, vegetarian options (mushroom risotto), salads, chowder, homemade side dishes  and shareables. The drink menu offers beer, wine list, martinis, cocktails, sparkling wine and liquor. The pricing is on the higher end. After having a very difficult month and a tough work week, I decided to go get a nice dinner. I made a reservation at Post 1917 in Reading. I was promptly seated upon arrival and given the menu. It took about 10 minutes for a server to arrive since the place was extremely busy. The servers were basically reciting the entire menu to the tables near me.  I had already decided what I wanted and ordered the Salmon ($32 plus tax) and the Dirty Fried Rice ($13 plus tax) side dish. As I was waiting, 80s music could be heard over the speakers in the bar area over the crowd noise echoing (high ceilings and hard walls). My food arrived in about 20 minutes after ordering.  The Salmon entree was nicely plated which had a very tender juicy grilled salmon wrapped with grilled cucumber, saffton butter, Japanese organic sweet mashed potatoes and grilled broccolini. The Dirty Fried Rice had a soft dense texture with a mix of chopped red & yellow peppers, edamame, ham and egg. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The chef also came out to check on diners. I was offered after dinner drinks, but they did not yet offer desserts since they are still looking for a pastry chef at the time of this posting. The check was $48.02 with tax and before tip, not too shabby. Overall, a great dinner with adequate service, though a bit delayed due to being very busy. I would definitely return here for a nice dinner out and hopefully they will have desserts too. read more

Pretty solid. Priced a little high for what it is, but it's Reading and there are really no other options in this tier. The cocktails are okay, but even basics like a Boulevardier were a little out of balance (too sweet). Highly recommend the crab cakes from the appetizer list. The steaks are generally good quality and have been cooked well, but are definitely under-seasoned. I don't want anything over-salted...but there's a lot of flavor left on the table here. Been here a few times and this is the case each time, so it must just be part of the prep protocol. The staff has been hit and miss. We've had wonderful servers who were friendly and very helpful, and also awful servers who didn't know the first thing about the drinks on the menu and didn't seem to care. The potential is there. It's a really nice spot, beautiful building, great looking bar (although I would absolutely turn the TV off for evening service). We were invited back by the owner to give Post 1917 another chance. The whole experience was OUTSTANDING!! Drinks, food, and service were so awesome which turned into a truly enjoyable evening! We were all impressed...all the dishes... apps, salads, sides, & main entrees were prepared perfectly!!! We left totally satisfied with confidence that we would be back many more times!! Looking forward to going to their new Lexington location as well since it is close to where we live. I expect the ambiance, service & food will be very similar!
