Coming home from Boston last night my my fiancé and I stopped at Saki. After waiting 10 mins for wait staff we left. 1st and last time I'll ever stop btw. We decided to go to mikado , closer to home , and also a frequent takeout spot for us. We were not let down. All was terrific ! We went the first month this was opened and realized they needed to work out bugs. Since then we've gone back for a birthday party at the Habachi grill and gone on several dates. English is not the first language so pointing to items on the menu is helpful to the staff if they aren't sure. The servings are HUGE! My husband and I both end up getting take-home boxes and make 2 meals into 4 so VERY worth the price. The food tastes fresh, the sauces are unique and the plating is beautiful. It can get loud when there is a Habachi party but if you are going to a public restaurant for peace and quiet, you're just silly. read more

Been here for hibachi a few times.. We got the guy that crosses the line with felatio references while administering the sake, so i knew we were in for an uncomfortable experience.. But its fun right? After throwing the 4 sauce cups to my friend, which then fell on the floor and then immediately scooping sauce into them i knew he was more drunk than usual. Next he started de whiting an egg yolk on his spatula with precision, joked about us catching it then proceeded to splatter it onto my shirt. We will never be back. He needs to lay off the yummy sauce. He deserved more than a cussing out. read more

The food here is always really good! Wish I could give them 4 stars, but the staff here always puts a lot of pressure on customers to leave as soon as they can, even in slow times of the day. Not to mention, every time I've been there, the staff will hang out together at a booth and stare uncomfortably at customers, again putting pressure on them to leave. 04/08/2018 I took my eldest daughter to dinner at Mikado last night (04/07) and it was wonderful. We started with the Appetizer plate B - egg roll, Crabs Rangoon, Beef Teriyaki, and chicken-fingers ($10.50). It was good and more than enough for the two of us. Then our dinners came! Awesome. I love the fact that every time I go to Mikado, the food is fresh, hot, and served fast. I had the Beef & Mixed Vegetables ($11.25) and my daughter, Jeanise, had the Genera T'so's chicken (左宗棠雞) ($12.95). We asked for it to be served 'spicy' - and while it was served spicier than they normally do, it wasn't quite up to our standard (we like it SPICY, since it's a Hunan dish). However, the flavors were wonderful and we will go back again and again. I had a Tsing Tao beer (青島啤酒) ($4.50) with my meal - and so, with tax and tip, the dinner came to $48.00. read more

The staff here is absolutely horrible. Ordered 4 rolls to go, 2 with no fish (vegan ones) and two with fish. They'd decided to shove all of it together in a little box so the vegan rolls ended up having fish on them when I was allergic. We called to let them know and my boyfriend went back for them to redo my order, however they were extremely rude to him and only gave him 1 out of 2 rolls that were originally ordered. This may be one of the worst places I have ever dined at. Came here with my parents Saturday night, we all got pad thai. The pad thai noodles were not the same noodles that usually come with this dish. They were very thin & rubbery. I asked for mine extra spicy, but it tasted sugary, as if it were made with Maple Syrup. But the best part of the meal was my mother's pad thai was served with a large piece of cardboard on the bottom. Like, how does that even get there????? Finding something like hair in your food is revolting, but I understand how it gets there. But Cardboard? That's a whole new level of dirty and disorganized. I am not the type to ever look for something for free, but you would think management would have taken that pad thai off our bill--nope. They did bring my mother a new one, But at that point, we were all set. We each had a few bites of our meals and were all set. We actually ended up getting food elsewhere after this. I entirely disagree with Leah H and would not let her review (from a year ago) sway you. The Hibachi is a lot of fun. Don't do this as a single... much better with friends/family. Indeed the entertainment is half the fun and kids absolutely love it by the way. There was a birthday for a 20ish guy next to us and they had a lot of fun. And the food was very good. besides the entrée you choose (eg shrimp, lobster, salmon, steak) they serve salad, soup, and choice of fried rice (very good choice), rice, noodles). Scorpion bowl, soporo beer, saki.. were yummy additions. Next time we will go to a booth and check out the sushi and report back.... read more

Food was alright, not giving a super wow-factor though. We went for teppanyaki, and the only good thing about my experience there was that it only lasted an hour so I could get the hell out of there. The chef was somewhat entertaining, however the server who took our orders was extremely rude. Yelling at us repeatedly to order off the teppanyaki menu despite some of us wanting food from the regular menu (like sushi, etc.). He looked at us like we had 5 heads when we'd say something off the non-teppanyaki menu. Despite our experience there only lasting an hour, we felt EXTREMELY rushed to get out, especially from this server. Brought over the bill and basically stood there waiting for us to provide a form of payment. Once I did and he brought back the slips, he'd literally hover over me like a hawk asking me if I had my tip written down. I literally had to tell him to hold on a second... Geez... And it's funny because during that time when he brought over the bill his rude attitude took a U-Turn INSTANTLY. Don't think I'd want to come back here at all. Save your money. read more

Whenever we went, we would get the all-you-can-eat sushi (nice prices for lunch on weekdays, still not a bad selection for dinner on Sundays). The sushi is always fresh, made to order, and plentiful. A great selection with high quality. I still crave this sushi, even though I've moved away from the area. The staff were always very welcoming and kind. They would remember us when we came in (once a month or so), and even after my wife and I moved, they asked about us a year or two later! Had dinner with my best girl last night. Nice space with a bar, a sushi bar, a hibachi area and the dinning area. We started with the Thai wings. They were phenominal. Can't say how good they were. Next i got the crocodile roll and the mikado roll. Both were awesome fresh made right in view of you. GF got the sesamie chicken. She liked it. Christina was our server. She was very good. Honestly - the food was pretty good. The service, on the other hand, was terrible. We had to ask multiple times for drinks, our waiter did not seem to understand us, some of the food never came. The waiter asked us (and the party across from us) to remind him again of what we ordered so that he could get our bill together. Needless to say, we satisfied our bill, but gave less than the standard 15% to 20% tip. We gave a 12% tip, to be exact. To our astonishment (and...horror) our waiter came back with our cash and the bill to insist that we give 15%!! I complained to the manager, who was sympathetic but offered nothing to "make good" on it. I left...may never go back. read more

For my birthday dinner I was seriously craving Hibachi, so I brought my family to this lovely little restaurant in Beverly. Despite being located in the Shaw's shopping center, the restaurant is spacious and packs a real wow-factor. The Hibachi grill is separate from the dining room, and sushi station. There are only two giant tables, with two grills each. When we first arrived I thought we would be seated with another group of people at the first table, but to my surprise we were seated at our own table. So many times at Japanese Steakhouses they try to cram you at one table so you're elbow to elbow. The host sat us at our own table (and there was only 5 of us), so we had plenty of space for heavy cast-iron teapots and appetizers. The soup and salad that comes with the combo meal was pretty standard. We shared a Tempura appetizer which was excellent. The batter was just right, but there was some weird potato thing. It was really thick and starchy--and the sauce, while amazing--didn't do much to help it. The rest of the shrimp and veggies were great. Our chef was very personable and did the routine flawlessly. Love the onion volcano! I ordered the Filet Mignon and shrimp combo plate and it was excellent. My Filet was perfectly cooked and the serving size was perfect. Overall, this place is great. Everyone that I brought thought it was an excellent choice and had a great time. I will definitely be back and may give the sushi a try! read more

We went here after an emotionally draining funeral for a quick bite to eat. The layout is nice, sit down and comfortable. The wait staff is attentive, to the point of being almost intrusive. (Seriously, let us LOOK at the menu before you ask us what we'd like. The waiter was very nice and always smiling. I'll take attentive over bad service. This kid was actually great but a little too quick on his toes.) We ordered off the hibachi; the chef was funny, fast and food cooked to perfection. My steak was perfectly rare and my partner's shrimp and scallops were also perfect. The noodles were tasty and the veggies were terrific. The price is a little steep. For the 2 of us; 2 sodas, 2 entrees and one app the total plus tip came out to $70. I guess for a place in the North Beverly strip mall, plaza, whatever you want to call it, I'd expect to pay around $25 per person, not $35. I have read that the lunch specials are the way to go if you want to try this place and not spend an arm and a leg. The food is solid and delish, but not $70 delicious. This place was miles better than Tokyo over in Peabody and around the same price. read more

Went there with friends with the intent of getting a lot of sushi. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised that unlimited rolls was $12.95. Add sushi and that is an extra $4. The rolls included in the all you can eat were pretty standard, but for the price pretty darn good. If you're looking for a cheaper all you can eat sushi option, this is the place. read more

I think sushi is fitting for my 100th review... I had an excellent experience with Mikado last night that I wanted to share. I got out of the gym a little bit before 10 and needed dinner. I drove by Mikado and looked at the hours on the door and saw that they were open until 11PM. I walked up, and after a few minutes I put in my takeout order. I went to go back to my car for a minute and come back and realized that I read the sign wrong and on Mon-Thu, they close at 10PM. I know I put my order in after 10. I've worked in retail in the past and I know that it is a pain in the ass when someone comes in last minute. They had probably cleaned up and were ready to go home and I came in. I felt awful, I went and apologized to the manager and he could not have been nicer about it. They appreciated my business and no apology was needed. Sometimes it is the little things that make the difference. You can have great food (they do), but having good people and being a friendly face can trump all of that. I frequent Mikado at least once a month, I can say that they have a customer for life with me. Also, the sushi was excellent! For a last minute order, everything was perfect. Best asian restaurant in Beverly! We used to go to Beverly Jade, but had a few not so good nights there. Recently changed to Mikado and we love it! We went here for Valentine's day and were treated so nicely by the management and they even gave out roses to all the ladies having dinner. I think this was really nice. We have ordered the typical Chinese entrees (pupu platter, rice, and sesame chick) alll great! Good quality meat here unlike a lot of other asian restaurants. The scorpian bowls had a long straw which I took a fancy to drinking from instead of leaning over with the small straws. First time we went service was awesome, second time we had a younger male waiter who was slow and careless, but the management seemed to be on top of him. Def. one of my new favorites! Was hankering for Asian and my favorite Viet/Cambo place Triple 888 on Rt 1 was closed (Sunday? yes closed on Sunday) so we hit up this place. Metza metz. Ordered the Seafood Soup for two and it had too much fake crab stick in it and the broth was rather gooey and salty. It was only OK. Then the spicy salt and pepper fried soft shell crab came out and it was really just a tempura, not so salty, not so spicy and not too crabby either. A solid D. The main dish was a chicken curry and vegetables with weirdly spicy red onions that over powered the whole dish; it too was just a big disappointment. They charge for tea; I guess that's a high margin item but I will never get used to that in Asian restaurants. I hear the sushi and hibachi experience is fun and also very good so I might give it a try but overall, I would not go back nor recommend this place based on some pretty basic stuff executed poorly. I can and do make better at home. I'll go two stars only because I did not try the other menu options of sushi or hibachi. read more

If the price of the dishes wouldn't have been so expensive, I'd probably give it a better review, but they weren't Mikado = WAY below my expectations. I am just now getting around to writing this review- It has taken a full year to recover from this experience. We came here for hibachi dinner with a group of couples and had a truly awful experience. The hibachi chef was targeting the females with squirting sake at their faces and in their mouths. Then he took it one step further and pulled out a fake penis watergun filled with sake and proceeded to slap one of the women across both cheeks, shove the fake penis into her mouth and squirt sake straight down her throat. She aspirated and choked on the Sake. The chef seemed unphased and never apologized. This is bordering on sexual assault and should not be tolerated. Disappointed and frustrated don't seem adequate to describe our experience. We had a hibachi reservation to celebrate a birthday. There were 3 adults and 3 kids. The 'chef' was so disrespectful and rude. This was the first visit to a hibachi restaurant for my kids and I explained to them the best I could what to expect, also letting them know that they didn't have to participate if they didn't want to. The chef pushed his nonsense onto everyone at the table. My 11 year old struggles with anxiety and was unfortunately the focus of the chef. He sprayed him with the water multiple times in the face, hitting him the eye twice. He also kept spraying him in the lap, calling him 'pee pee boy' every time he did it. Two of us had to say it was enough. While I wonder how many people actually find this funny, I was less than thrilled that my son left there, not only soaking wet, but also in tears having a panic attack. The manager was spoken to and we just got an 'I'm sorry'. I would like to hope that this isn't the experience for everyone but save yourself the trouble and find someplace else to go. Consistently mediocre. Cheap lunch, decent selection of maki rolls... They even have an all you can eat sushi. But the quality of their sushi isn't good enough to be a regular here. Food is good here but service was terrible. Take out often takes longer than they tell you on the phone, and the front desk is a confusing mess of orders. One guy was waiting 20 minutes before the host realized his order had been on the desk all along. When I went there for sit down dinner, my boyfriend and I waited 15 minutes at table without any service, and when waitress arrived she did not ask for our drink order, she asked what we wanted to eat and we had to point out to her that we had not been offered so much as a glass of water. Dumplings were delivered before our drinks, without chopsticks or eating utensils. We eventually flagged her down to ask for this, but 5 minutes later we had to ask again and our food had grown cold. Sushi was okay. Miso soup was good. The service really tainted our delayed Valentine's dinner. read more

So my guy is from Beverly and he is obsessed with this place! The first time he said let's go for sushi I was a little skeptical when he drove us to a strip mall however this place is truly a hidden gem! We have been about 6 times in the past 2 months, I think he would be there more often if I allowed lol, but each time I've gotten the same items. Wonton Soup (very flavorful but a little salty), Edamame which is difficult to improperly steam but the Terryaki Salmon is what won me over!!! I am a salmon addict and get it most places I go however this was the most awesome salmon presentation ever! When it came out for the first time, a smoking skillet with two large thick pieces of perfectly browned salmon on a bed of shredded vegetables and an impecable terryaki sauce with hints of giner & garlic..... AMAZING!!! Not to mention the bartender makes us this blue drink called a Suffering Bastard served in a tall hurricane glass that is out of this world! The atmosphere is clean, the bathrooms are kept neat, the food is awesome and the prices are affordable! Baby you can take me to the strip mall anytime for dinner! Thanks Mikado! read more

Disappointing evening. We took our grand-children to their first hibachi diner and I wish it would have been a better experience. I had never seen only one chef cooking on two metal cooking tables ! We were a party of 9 and the opposite table had 5 guests, needless to say the chef did not have much time to entertain his guests as we are used to see at other Hibachi restaurants. We all ordered a variety of their combination diners and the food and drink were OK. We were left to finish our meals in front of dirty metal tables for the same chef was called to another party and obviously did not have time to clean it. We were visiting my in-laws, who live in Beverly, from the Seattle area and decided to come here since our 3 kids (16, 13 & 10) like teppenyaki. Mikado is pretty simple and won't win any design or ambience awards. It is pretty basic inside with a seating area for anyone ordering non-teppanyaki meals and a side room with four grills. The food was solid, not spectacular as 4 of the 7 in our party had steak and shrimp teppanyaki, and three others had other dishes (pad thai, basil chicken and sesame chicken). All teppanyaki orders come with a nice mushroom broth soup and nice salad. The waitress as well as the cook were super friendly and were very accommodating (I was surprised they let us eat other dishes at the grill). The kids enjoyed his act (was pretty similar to any other similar place you'll go) and he put on a good show. The steak and shrimp were both cooked to order and the fried rice was delicious. The sesame chicken was delicious, all white meat, albeit a little heavy on the sauce. Same was true of the phad thai and basil chicken. Two of us ordered drinks --- one scorpion bowl and a headhunter. The drinks were delicious and they can't be accused of going light on the liquor, they certainly packed a punch. For Beverly, this is a solid addition to the dining choices and I'd have no reservations returning, either for teppanyaki or any other dishes on the menu. Service was strong, food was solid, interior was clean and comfortable. I don't have anything negative. It won't blow you away, but it is unlikely to disappoint. read more

I had been wanting to try this place for several weeks and I had the opportunity last night. I don't get to eat out very often these days, so I was really hoping for something special. Mikado let me down. My fiance had the teriyaki chicken, which was good. The chicken was grilled well and the sauce was savory. Pretty straight forward stuff. The only problem was that it came 10 minutes before mine! It's bad enough when this happens with a large party, but with a table of two it's just awkward. I'm glad this wasn't a first date because I ate half of her entrée waiting for mine. I ordered a special, Thai General Gau's chicken. It's described on the menu as crispy fried pieces of chicken in a spicy curry. What a great concept! Unfortunately it was executed poorly. The special is listed as being spicy and I specifically asked them to not hold back on the spiciness. It was about as spicy as a glass of milk. I could tell that they used the breaded nuggets that you get in regular general Gau's because the breading was soggy and the chicken was squishy. The curry was passable, but sub par for any indian restaraunt or even most thai places. For all my criticisms of the dish, I did eat it all and enjoy it. I just had really high hopes for Thai Gen Gau. I think this dish could be great, but they need to use better ingredients. Mikado dissapointed this time, but I will definately give them another shot. Next time maybe I will try the hibachi. read more

it's okay in a pinch....Lacking quality food. Service is rushed in order to turn tables over. Tried to order apps before entrees was told NO. Food came out in no certain order and took long. Everything is in the same brown sauce and all tastes alike. To much batter and poor quality chicken etc.. Take the extra 10 minutes and go to Sugar Cane in Peabody. Mikado's location originally threw me off (as it is located in a Shaw's plaza) but don't let that stop you. It has an extensive menu with a range of Asian foods (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean). I have yet to find a better spicy tuna roll anywhere else. I've also never had to wait long for a table so that's a plus. I recommend going here for lunch as they have cheap lunch specials, as well as an all you can eat sushi deal. The hibachi was a fun experience as well.
