Ordered take out for dinner and went with C8 Chicken Wings, Fried Jumbo Shrimps (Dinner Special). You have three rice options and I went with the fried rice. The best part about this meal was the rice. It was seasoned to perfection and amazing. The wings were not what I expected. I thought they would be breaded and deep fried but they were more like roasted wings and didn't taste good. They advertised jumbo shrimp with the meal, but in all actuality, it's one shrimp, butterflied and made in to a circle that they batter and then deep fry. They gave two wings and two shrimp with the rice for $14. If I ever order again I will only get the rice. read more

Can you say YUK!! I had shumai and General Gau tofu last night. the shumai was nothing but wrapper dough with one speck of shrimp in it. Shumai is supposed to be small dough sacks filled with ground pork, minced shrimp, etc. They are made open top sometimes topped with a dot of orange fish roe. these were NOT that. these were globs of dough, no filling like their supposed to have. Why do you want to rob customers of the enjoyment of tasting real shumai?? The cook needs to go to Boston's Chinatown and learn the correct way of making them. Shame on you! The General Gau tofu was weird, and the tofu was too chewy. When I ordered it, I asked the waiter if the heat level could be reduced to 3-1/2 as opposed to 5. He did not understand. I explained about heat levels and he nodded yes to my request for reduced heat level. what I got had no heat at all and tasted suspiciously like doctored sweet and sour sauce. The only thing I enjoyed was the brown rice with a little of that sauce. I took the tofu home think I might try eating it later, but by the time I got home, I decided to throw it in the trash - $34 in the trash. What a disgrace. read more

This place is near my home and quite convenient. I do like the food and find it quite tasty. The sushi variety is vast and the Chinese food is delicious and not overly cooked. I often order takeout. The atmosphere can feel cold and lonely so I think I might try sitting at the bar when I go there next. I know this is might feel minor but I am miffed that you have to buy white rice with dishes that normally come with rice, such as General Tso Chicken. And it's $4 so that's not to be taken lightly. GG wasn't terrible, but wasn't very good either. The service was very good, our waiter was knowledgeable about ingredients and allergies, and the food was quick. I liked the pu pu platter for 1, with Rangoon, egg roll, pork strip, and shrimp. The sushi though was kind of gross. Huge pieces, chewy, and cold like the pieces had just escaped the fridge or freezer. The maki roll had a very strange taste, particularly the smidgen of sauce on the top. Ordered the Sunset Blvd Maki for the first time this order and I am disappointed in myself for not trying it sooner...SO GOOD. The sushi and sashimi continues to be fresh and nicely prepared and presented. But in the last several months new cooks have arrived in the kitchen. I don't know where they're from, but I don't believe it's from a good restaurant. I frequent this place, and I've stopped ordering Chinese cuisine. Dropped a few stars because there is no value for the cost. Mikado and Kame are as good and you get much more sushi than GG serves in an order. Drinks are also more at GG and the size/pour is considerably smaller than the other 2 places. You do not get any soup or salad either which is so wrong for the cost you pay for a plate of sushi. Enjoyed a wonderful lunch at GOURMET GARDEN CHINESE, Beverly and everything was great. (except for the order we took out as they got the rice incorrect and there was no gravy for the egg foo yung) We were the only ones in the place at the time, but there were take out orders going out from what we could see. The eggroll rolls were fabulous, as was the hot & sour soup and shrimp with lobster sauce and rice. The luncheon portions are generous and at a reasonable price. In the past I've had food from here and it was pretty good. I placed a take out order today and honestly, it was pretty bad. The General Gau's chicken tasted terrible. It had over cooked broccoli in it, and all I could taste was the broccoli. It was also kind of watery. It seemed as though they overcooked the broccoli and never drained the water from it when putting it together. The fried rice was lacking flavor, and had peas in it. I don't ever recall it having peas before. Obviously, that's a personal preference. I hate peas and wouldn't have ordered it if I knew it contained peas. Overall, it was not great and seemed like it had been sitting around for a while. I picked it up around 1pm, so I hope it was freshly made. I'm not sure I'll go back again. The restaurant is still closed for dining-in. We placed an order through Grub Hub and picked it up. I have to say I was disappointed in the limited options available through this platform. I could not get some of my favorites. Won't be doing that again. We picked up the food and everything went smoothly, it was ready when they said it would be, no wait, no line. We ordered: Three Delights, Chicken Wings, Peking Ravioli, Crab Rangoon, and Steamed Rice. The Three Delights has veggies, chicken, beef, and shrimp. It was really bland and lacked flavor. My biggest disappointment was that the shrimp did not taste freshly cooked and were dry. It's as if they were already cooked and then added to warm up with the rest of the food. A real let down. The Wings and Rangoons were ok. The Rangoons are usually better, but were a little greasy. The dough on the Peking ravioli was heavy and pasty, not as good as usual. The rice should be pretty simple... but it was dry it didn't taste fresh. It wasn't "sticky rice" it was a dried clump. Sad. Overall I have to say this was a pretty disappointing experience. I don't know if in doing take-out only they are using short-cuts that affect the quality of their food, but I have to say I won't be doing take-out any time soon. read more

I came here based on a Groupon trade in. Warning: The shrimp fried rice and shrimp lo mein come with baby shrimp. They did not look fully cooked (not pink enough for me) and were not cleaned. Deveined shrimp is important to me. I ordered these two dishes, and I was really disappointed. I ordered one to eat at the restaurant and one entree to go. I asked to cancel the order to go because I knew I wouldn't eat it. The server involved the manager, who grew upset easily. He acted like it was a huge inconvenience. Beware that you have to order special dishes to get decent shrimp. The manager offered to take both entrees and cash me out for my wonton soup, which was also meh. I advocated for a new meal, and I ordered the General GAO shrimp. It was delicious but the manager's angry temperament made the meal harder to enjoy.
