Well, I don't wanna' give them less than three stars, because the shumai were quite decent. That being said, the shrimp pad Thai was the worst I've eaten in my life. The noodles were very underwhelming, the flavor was mediocre at best, and the shrimp were the size of my thumbnail. There were peanuts and one tiny, very overcooked piece of green onion. We just ordered takeout from Iron Chef, and could not be more impressed. Having eaten at most sushi restaurants in Boston and on the North Shore, I can confidently say this spot is a standout. We moved up to this area a few years ago and have been scouring the area for a go-to sushi spot. After ordering Iron Chef tonight, I think we've finally found it. Since it was our first time ordering, we didn't get crazy with our choices, especially because takeout sushi can be tricky to get right, but, everything blew us away--each roll was more delicious than the last, the presentation was so beautiful it felt like we were dining in. You could taste the freshness and quality in every bite. The ordering process was easy, the staff were friendly, and the food was ready right on time. Everything was packaged PERFECTLY, with care. I have never reviewed a restaurant before, but this experience was so good I felt like I had to say something. Iron Chef has earned a top spot on our list for both takeout and dine-in sushi. Perfect! My mother told me about the Iron Chef and mothers know best! Getting there was easy, it is literally one gas station away from the highway. Parking was a breeze as a huge parking lot is right outside the front door. The atmosphere is light, upbeat modern Asian. The staff is friendly and attentive without being bothersome. The restaurant itself is small to medium with a very healthy turnover. The luncheon specials are very affordably priced and come with a choice of soup and appetizer. I opted for the sweet and sour soup which was remarkably great. All the ingredients were fresh and the soup was perfectly balanced. There were a couple of extra ingredients in there or it was cooked just right - either way IC took an average dish an made it awesome. I opted for the chicken fingers and they were outstanding. No hint of fry oil or grease and I could taste the chicken. The cream de la cream was the eggplant. It was PERFECT in every way and there was plenty of it. Duck sauce and soy sauce--large sharing glass containers-not cleaned. They just wiped down bar area and let us sit right where people had just left using those same sauces. They also sat other couples only one bar stool away from us on each side. No Covid safety at all. Very good food, quiet location We tried this place for the first time this week because it was recommended by a family member. The food was near excellent. The vegetables were very fresh. Chinese food is typically pretty salty but this was acceptable. I had the Spicy Szechuan Chicken. At first I though it was ho-hum but then the spices kicked in and I couldn't get enough - excellent. I'll have the leftovers tomorrow. The restaurant was quiet last night (Tuesday) with a couple tables occupied and folks at the bar. We did takeout so I cannot speak to the service for dining in. Went in for sushi... Lasted 5 minutes and bounced. Guy at the register must have had a cold. Overheard him blowing his nose, a real long and productive one if you catch my drift. It was kind of a turn off, but people get colds, no biggie. He tossed his loaded up tissue, grabbed a half eaten plate of food that was on the counter next to me (I assumed was a fellow diners) and headed behind the bar. And, without washing his hands grabbed two fists full of raw fish from the sushi station and chowed down behind the bar. Remarkable. I thought I was on that hidden camera show where you're supposed to do the right thing and call the dude out and make sure the other patrons know what they're about to get into... I didn't. This place is terrible. First time we ordered here was new years eve. It was an absolute shitshow. We ordered in advance and were given a timetable. Showed up on time and they never put our order in so no food. We opted to put the order in again, they told us an hour and a half. It's new years eve, and they are slammed, no biggie I get it. Showed up 2 hrs later to give then ample time. Still no order. And orders were just coming out from when I showed up the first time. I was pissed but again it's new years eve and every Chinese place is slammed so I get it. My wife convinced me to try it again today as we got a takeout menu in the mail and the saltiness from new years has worn off. This time they didnt give us one of our dinners. To top it off the food is blah at best. Lo mein is flavorless and the sushi doesn't taste super fresh. I will not ever be going back here.... read more

This place has really kicked it up! They re-fitted the dining room and added a nice bar. The food has always been good here, the sushi was back room, made by staff. The sushi now is amazing. I had perfectly seated tuna on rice and it was so clean, I felt like part of my mouth was eating rice and then other part had tuna, and it was sprinkling soy! read more

At the risk of sounding snobby, those who say the food here is very good, or even good, have not eaten much Chinese food. I've gotten takeout from here about 10 times because it's very convenient when returning home late evening. But the food quality doesn't rise above average, at best. Prices are high and portions are small. Not much imagination or effort with the sauces or much else. They all seem to look and taste the same, the difference being which meat you choose. But aside from all of this, I have one huge complaint with everything I've ever had here: No matter how strongly I emphasize that I want my food extremely spicy, it's never even just a little spicy. This includes dishes that by nature should be spicy, such as Szechwan chicken. Apparently the chef doesn't know that chili peppers exist because I've never seen any. Once there was a small container of chili oil included with my food. This is definitely not the way for a Chinese restaurant to make its food spicy. The spices must be cooked in with the food, not added afterward. So, inadequate chef, big prices, smallish portions. My search for good Chinese food on the North Shore continues. read more

I really like this place. I am , however , reviewing it for what it is, which is a REALLY good Chinese rest. that has sushi as an availiable app.. I actually prefer Sushi as an app, so , hey this works for me... In my estimation the North of Boston area really misses having a high caliber Chinese , since the Welus moved out of Salem a million years ago. Ive thougth this until I ate here a few times. The physical atmosphere isn't incredibly over the top, it's your standard fair Chinese, but thier food and thier service is 100 percent bang for your buck. They physical layout of the building hides the quality of the food. Im good with that. The wait staff is incredibly pleasant attentive and friendly, and knowlegable about the dishes. I love a waitress that can joke with you about your water consumption and go get you a whole pitcher so you don't have to wait. Not that we ever did. The Singapore noodles here are fantastic, the Thai soup was fantastic, and thier portions are huge , even by Chinese standards. The food isnt overly sweet or greasy as in almost any other local Chinese. Spicy tuna was good, made a great app. Just like I wanted. I tried these guys for takeout once, and ended up with a huge bag of food for 18 bucks or something crazy. I'd also comment that when you say "no MSG" they actually listen to you and follow your instructions, which beats heart palpitations, dry mouth and feeling gross. Which is my beef with many other Chinese places and why ive almost given up on Chinese altogether. Give this place a shot some night if your just out for the food and can handle really good food and service but dont need a Dragon fountain or a life size buddah next to you. It's worth it. I wish the owners or managers could be a little less ...unhappy looking, but im there to eat. read more
