Overall: I come here whenever I am in the Denvers area and I've tried A LOT of things on the menu, which is affordable and everything has always tasted delicious and fresh! + Flavorful and Fresh + Clean + Fast service + Good prices The Service: I usually eat with one buddy but I have been here with a big group too and everything came out on time and tasting good. The staff interactions range based on who's waited on me and if there is a line but generally on the good side and always professional. The Food: Ok I'm pretty picky about the freshness of the ingredients (especially avocado) and not having too much rice on my sushi... Sea Lion has yet to fail me hence the 5 stars! I love spicy foods so my favorites are the Crunchy Shrimp Roll or the Hawaiian, but on days I have ADD taste buds I go for the Spicy Tuna and California (yes AND b/c I eat both rolls in one sitting and they are delicious!) If I'm really hungry I pair with the Miso soup which is not amazing but it hits the spot and has never been too salty or watery. I've had their edamame a couple times when I wanted to people watch and its pretty tasty. I'm writing this loooong after I've inhaled my order but Ill post pix next time Im here :) I normally wouldn't recommend Mall sushi but they do it well and it is easily as good as a sit in restaurant. read more

Don't pay cash at this place. I waited for my 76 cents of change which they "forgot" to give me. I planned on putting it in the tip cup anyhow but I'm sorry its STEALING just taking peoples change . They could have round down. Ifthey do this to 100 customers a day it's extra money for them. It's beyond rude I was a loyal customer but I will NEVER go back again and report this to mall management. The excuse of we don't have change is BS (with an attitude) and needs to be reported. Not the first time it has happened there but will be the last I won't be back. Yes, I have had this sushi. It is excellent. I'm not so big on different fish that I don't know but they have a shrimp and they have a tuna that I really liked. Also, I enjoy a smoked salmon. I've done take out from this place a few times now through a catering app for my job and this place never fails. Despite the large orders it gets, my food has always come on time and with great flavor. I'm not adventurous when it comes to sushi, rather I'm very basic. I have ordered the lunch combo with the crispy onion roll, crunchy shrimp roll, and shrimp dumplings and I've also tried the spicy shrimp tempura and edamame. My favorite has been the onion roll because of the crispy onions on top that provide so much flavor and the crunchy and fresh cucumber. The shrimp in my sushi has always been crispy and the rice is sticky, not hard. The only disappointment has been that the spicy shrimp tempura roll is not spicy but you can fix that with some sriracha. The edamame has a fresh taste. read more

We've been trying to find some good sushi takeout in the area, and Sea Lion Sushi hit the spot! If you're looking for affordable and quick sushi, this is your place. No frills, nothing extravagant, but just decent takeout sushi. We ordered a bunch of rolls and salads and were shocked at how cheap it was. Worth going back for that alone! The only funny part was my sweet potato tempura roll which was filled with literal sweet potato fries (lol!). Not sure if this is good or bad or just... interesting? Surprisingly good for a mall court and a delicious variety of tasty treats. Price is a bit higher than what you'd expect for the portion size. The speed was also a little slow as well for the lack of customers, but that can be forgiven as they make everything fresh to order. They need to clean their oil, as some bits were undercooked. The gyoza was nice and crispy, with a good blend of spice. The poke bowl was smaller than hoped, with less in it than other places and they didn't add the sauce I ordered from them. The sushi burrito was filling according to my boyfriend, and the tempura fresh. Overall I will be willing to go back and try more, and cannot wait to try their sushi. read more

After seeing so many 4-5 star reviews, I'd admit my curiosity peaked and my husband and I tried a sampler or variety entrée as a snack here. If I hadn't read so many good reviews then maybe I wouldn't be so disappointed. It is like any other supermarket sushi place. Perhaps everyone had low expectations because it is in a mall and what they ate exceeded it? Bit of a puzzler of why this place has such high ratings. The fact that this place is in a mall does not make me skeptical of it. One of the highly regarded, 3 star Michelin sushi restaurant in Japan is located underneath a subway station, so really any place that sells sushi could be potentially great. But I digress. Sushi rice was not really flavorful. The fish wasn't frozen - so plus, but it wasn't very flavorful. The big pro is that for convenience and for eating sushi the price is decent. It made for an okay snack between my husband and I. From reading the reviews, I guess you have to get an older gentleman to make the rolls? Hmmm. I used to eat here every day, but the price started to hurt my wallet. Sushi does not fill me up either so it was pricey for how much I would eat. However, when I want to treat myself.....this IS the place to go. Every roll I've had here is epic. Note: A little warning. I'm about to be one of those people who writes a mediocre review of a place where I didn't actually eat, but this experience seemed worth sharing. I spent a week in Boston for corporate training. Looked up this place on Yelp and went out of my way to try and eat here. I walked up to the counter and asked the girl if they had chirashi. The answer was no. I asked her what she would recommend and she said tuna and salmon. I asked her a couple of questions about what was included in the sashimi dishes, and I finally got it through my thick skull that she was trying to tell me that all they had left was tuna and salmon. Since tuna and salmon do not make a sushi dinner for me, I went elsewhere. I'm a mall employee and I love that there's a place in the food cout that offers something different. Some people would thik that sushi you can get a mall wouldn't be that good, but it's honestly the best sushi I've ever had. Everything is so fresh. Their meus consist of a huge variety of maki and shashimi rolls, a couple of hand rolls, dragon rolls, all of which have a brown rice alternative. After much debate and a couple of my coworkers warning me against it because mall sushi couldn't possibly be good I ordered Sea Lion for lunch. Their website is fantastic and super easy to order from. I ordered the Sea Lion roll and the California roll. Both came neatly arranged in the takeout container and were ready for pickup 15 minutes after placing my order. The ingredients they use tasted super fresh and I was so happy to stumble upon this place while at work. I am now going to refer all my sushi lovers here if they're in the area as their prices are very good and they have a great selection to choose from. They now offer brown rice sushi! It is unseasoned, however. It's not the weird, overwhelmingly heavy, squishy stuff I seem to get with Whole Foods sushi, but not quite the happy refined brown rice of Snappy Sushi in Davis Sq. My two pieces of nigiri salmon kinda came apart, but the veggie maki kinda held together (use your fingers instead of chopsticks), and the brown rice didn't add unnecessarily heaviness to my inari. Yay! They do charge $1 extra for brown rice; however, he charged me $1 *total*, even though I had 3 different brown rice sushi items... not sure how that works. The calamari salad, by the way, is lovely. The squiddy bits were yummy and not too chewy, the dressing has a little kick from ginger and hot pepper, and there are finely-sliced bits of shitake mushroom throughout. nom nom nom I must say, though, I'm leaving my rating at 4 stars. When I got there, you could tell they just had a huge rush, since there were people waiting around for orders. But, there were only 2 people waiting to place orders, myself and another woman. Along came a 3rd gal, and while I'd been trying to get their attention to place and order, they took the 3rd gal's order right away, even though she was shorter than me and everything. I can see why this place gets 5 stars. Sea Lion Sushi is a charming and incongruous delight in a decaying mall food court that also boasts an army recruiting center and a cell phone stand. Yum! The guy who runs the place is friendly and fast and the sushi is pretty good - the sauces help with the less than remarkable fish. I think we got the rainbow roll and the house roll and something with avocado on the outside. And a seaweed salad that was icy. I'd make Sea Lion Sushi a destination if I was seeing a movie at the mall theater. And I might make time to stop in the Marshall's right across from the food court too, because I do love a bargain. read more

Seeing Sea Lion a few years ago made me think that it was definitely a goner in the Liberty Tree Mall (see review). Most of the restaurants that open in that food court, die in that food court. The exceptions being McDonald's and a few of the standard Asian restaurants. I really didn't know how it was going to survive. A few years later, I actually gave it a try. Boy is it good. The prices are extremely fair and the sushi rolls are being made in front of you. You can see the quality as well as taste it. The rolls don't have that "prepackaged" feel you get with other sushi restaurants in other malls. They are freshly rolled and they sure taste like it. They can do the casual sushi fan favorites such as Philly rolls well, as well as more elaborate things like Rainbow Rolls and their Sea Lion special. I had the Miso soup there too, because I love Miso soup. It didn't disappoint. So for anyone willing to venture into the hell that is the Liberty Tree Mall, please give this spot of heaven a shot. When I heard from someone earlier this week that Sea Lion Sushi closed, I panicked! There is nowhere else I love to eat as much as here! I brought my friend from school, an international student from Japan, to Sea Lion Sushi whenever we caught the shuttle from campus to the mall. She said it was the best sushi she's had outside of Japan, and while I'm not from Japan nor have ever gone there, it certainly is the tastiest sushi I've ever eaten. The station is immaculately clean, the assortment broad enough for the adventurous but full of friendly and familiar varieties too for those who just want a comforting California roll. Their ingredients are extremely fresh and tasty, and the best part is that the staff is friendly and helpful (yes, they recognize me by face now, haha). The only downside is that.... well, it's in the MALL. But the tastiness of the sushi makes up for the lack of glamor in the surroundings. When I tell people my favorite place to get sushi is the Liberty Tree Mall, they often give me a funny look, but I swear by it (and they end up agreeing with me after visiting!). I've been to Kame before, and it was nothing superb to write home about. Sea Lion Sushi has my eternal love! The best part? It's just the right price for a strapped-for-cash college student. it was my first time after a 6 year break and the older asian man isn't there anymore or he wasn't working that day. it was an older asian lady and a young hispanic guy. the hispanic guy didn't say anything. just shook his head acknowledging my order. the asian lady was helpful. we got the spicy california roll ($4.52 with tax). it was an avg sized 8 pieces with some sauce over it (see pic). it came with some soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. it was a good price for the size and the taste was good. obviously you can't expect top quality here but it's not junk either. you do have to wait a little longer than fast food b/c they make it on the spot, but that's not a bad thing. if you want some cheap rolls, check it out. read more

Amazing for a sushi place in a mall food court. I understand that they moved from Front St in Peabody to the Liberty Tree Mall because they kept getting broken into. I love their spicy tuna rolls and recently tried their salmon Alaska roll. The rolls that are made right in front of you are large. When I order spicy tuna rolls from places like the Tokyo Steak House, the rolls are small and very easy to maneuver with chopsticks. However, I have heard that it's also to eat sushi with your hands. In this case it's certainly true because these are 2-bite rolls! I've read other reviews about how the fall apart, but I simply feel that it's because they are so big. Great prices, great sushi, a little hard to get to but definitely worth it! read more

Sea Lion is the best thing that has ever happened to Liberty Tree (well..the second best-The Rack is great too). The staff is very friendly and the sushi is fresh and delicious! What more could you want? (Besides not having it be located at Liberty Tree?) The miso soup and seaweed salads are great, and they don't charge an arm and a leg for them either. My sister got the Shrimp Tempura/Eel and Avocado roll which is one of the best rolls I have ever had. The spicy tuna and salmon rolls were excellent as well. When it comes to sushi, this place blows Boston places like Snappy Sushi out of the water. From now on when it comes to sushi I am either going to Sea Lion or Duozo in Boston.
