What a fantastic little restaurant! It's a tradition for me to take my husband to sushi for his birthday and I'm so glad to have chosen Taku Sushi Bar for the occasion. They don't require reservations so we arrived at 8pm on a Thursday night. There was street parking right out front and you don't have to pay after 8pm so that worked out really well. We walked in and were greeted immediately. There were maybe 8 other people dining at the time. Our drink orders were taken and we set to browsing the menu. We decided to order the Shrimp Explosion and Fried Octopus Balls to start. The shrimp appie was SO GOOD! We settled on the White Tiger and I think it was called Crispy Mango Tuna roll? I can't remember but they were both delicious. Service was great, albeit our server was a bit too quick to run off - she took my drink order and left before my husband could even open his mouth LOL but it all worked out in the end. The food arrived quickly and everything was wonderful. I will absolutely return to try more options!

I went to the Taku Sushi Bar on 4/29/25.... because I just really wanted to take myself out for dinner. My parents were away and I just wanted to get out. I had been wanting to visit the Taku Sushi Bar since I had read reviews about it earlier in the year and I was NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!!! The owner, Gerry, was working at the sushi station and I got to meet him and speak with him after my dinner was finished. He's really nice and it's obvious that he loves what he does. I had three things for dinner - the tempura appetizer ($12.00), the Tempura shrimp roll ($9.00), and the crispy tuna roll ($17.00). They were AMAZING. Gerry and his staff go to a great deal of effort and it shows in their food... and in the fact that a lot of people stopped to speak with Gerry and to thank him for the meals that they had. My server - Jasmine K. - was great. She's very nice and she's an excellent server. She knows the food and she seems to genuinely care about good service. YOU WILL LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. If you want to support a local business and see someone be successful in doing what he loves to do.... give Gerry and his people your business.

    Special roll and margarita

I've had the same bartender/server for two times now and she is incredible! My bf doesn't like sushi so he got the chicken teriyaki lunch portion and it was huge. Delicious! I got the salmon and fatty tuna nigiri as well as the uni special hand roll with caviar. Something new for me and all were high quality and incredible in taste. My favorite drink is a seasonal special the love potion margarita. Great environment and vibes all around!

    Salmon toro torched

Delicious food and really good quality fish!! I absolutely loved the sushi - the torched salmon toro nigiri was EXCELLENT and I ordered another pair after the first one. My toro truffle maki was a little overwhelming (not as much flavor as anticipated). I would definitely come back here and order more nigiri! I would say the nigiri is a little small - the rice portion is quite tiny. Service was excellent

I got food poisoning after eating this chirashi bowl. Sashimi aren't fresh. Miso soup was way too salty. Sushi rice in the chirashi bowl had a weird smell too.

The new Taku! Who knew it could be even better than its first location on Rantoul! Bigger and somehow so much better!! The ginger old fashioned was perfection in my mouth. Could have been a bit more appealing to the eye. Hence no photo. The flavor though was something I'll dream about. The tuna tataki was the best I've had in a long time. The smoked hamachi was visually theatre and so tasty. The sushi I had melted. No teeth required. Thank you Taku for an incredible food experience. Congrats!!

    Takeout!

We ordered takeout so I can't speak to the service or ambiance, but the food itself was truly amazing! It definitely hit the spot. I ate a miso soup and the lemon galore. The lemon galore roll was absolutely delicious!!!!

Sushi bar and Bob Ross on TV
    Pete D.

I had never heard of this place, but a friend recommended it and said it was good, so I paid it a visit since I'm always up for finding new excellent sushi restaurants, which are very tough to find in Metro Boston. To my surprise, he was right, the sushi here is excellent, some of the best I have had north of Boston since Sushi Island / original Junji closed and a much wider range of options than most suburban sushi restaurants and significantly higher quality. Food came out quickly. I have two complaints which I consider minor given how good my food was (and waitress service was great too): When I order nigiri, I don't want it dressed with some type of garnish/sauce/topping. While the sauce wasn't terrible, it was completely unnecessary and took away from the flavor I wanted to taste. I am sure people like these garnishes (scallion is ok), but it should have been advertised so I could have asked for it to be removed (note to self for next time). Two - Beverly thinks they are downtown Boston or Cambridge and requires you to pay a meter kiosk to park until 8pm. This is completely unnecessary and anti-business. This is obviously not the fault of the restaurant. On the TV they seem to show Bob Ross non-stop which is kind of funny.

Salmon tempura..... delicious, but my least favorite item.

Great water view that is most likely even better in summer. Staff was very nice and attentive. Appetizers came out decently quick in which we had the buffalo cauliflower bites and crab cake. The cauliflower was cooked well but the buffalo sauce was very strong. It could have used a nice blue cheese dressing on the side for dipping. The crab cake was the highlight of the night. The one crab cake sat on a bed of pepper relish with the mango habanero aioli on top was a surprisingly good combo. My wife ordered the filet and ask for it medium. Looked good coming out the we find out the potatoes and spinach the steak were laying on were very cold and the steak was very rare. At a price of $48 you expect the meal to be at least warm and cooked properly. And now the churassco, I had zero idea what this was gonna come out as but it was just kind of a hodgepodge of stuff thrown on a plate. Yucca frites were very dry and stale tasting so it took a lot to chew. I didn't know the carrot was going to be shredded carrots cause unless it's in a salad I prefer actual carrot slices. Steak and plantains were cooked very well and were tasty. It came out on a skillet but there was zero sizzle. I don't really understand why they put onion rings on the rice it just made it harder to eat. I do hope the food got more consistent throughout the night cause the beginning was kind of a mixed bag.

"It's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality" - i picked it because of this quote on the menu, and i forgot how much i used to love p!atd. i thought to myself, "i've heard this before somewhere..." i loved the bread & roasted garlic butter, however on a little cutting board it was difficult not to make a mess. i guess that's part of what makes it "kitchen table." it is the perfect, round sourdough loaf with the most delicious butter. the roasted chicken was prepared flawlessly. juicy and tender inside, and a perfect crispy skin, just wow. i absolutely loved the selection of spring vegetables, along with the sherry sauce; sautéed spinach, carrots, mushrooms, and onions. the mashed potatoes were perfect once i added extra salt, extra pepper & whipped it up with more of that garlic butter to my liking, however it was prepared great. i requested it without bacon butter, how it typically comes prepared, and the garlic butter is a great substitute. everything was impeccable. i travel to boston often just for food, because i find that the food in beverly, as a whole, is just not up to par, even with all of the marketing. kitchen table is different than any other restaurant in beverly, and now i don't have to travel so far to get the most delicious meals! i am honestly blown away by how amazing my meal was, and i highly recommend kitchen table to anyone in the north shore, and i'd even say it's completely worth going out of your way for. whether solo, a romantic or friend date, or with a small or large group, kitchen table is here to serve (one of the best meals you've had in a long time). there were some other ladies at the bar that were extremely hospitable and helpful as well, i didn't catch their names this time. i wanted to take some pictures at the end of my meal, at closing time when it had emptied out, and molly encouraged me to take all the pictures i needed. just fantastic service by all of the staff. i couldn't be happier with my first experience at kitchen table. here's to many more! ambiance: 4.9/5 food: 5/5 drinks: 5/5 service: 5/5 kitchen table: 5/5

After waiting about 20 minutes, we were finally seated. Despite that rocky start, the food was so outstanding that we ended up coming back every single day during our stay in Salem. The biggest inconsistency was the service. Out of the four days we visited, only one day stood out as having exceptional service. Most of the time we had to flag someone down for drink refills, order more oysters, ask for Parmesan cheese, or even leave our credit card hanging off the edge of the table before someone would notice we were ready to pay. Now, onto the food because that's what kept bringing us back. The clam chowder and lobster bisque were the true stars of the menu. These are the kinds of soups you'll still be thinking about long after your vacation is over. The lobster bisque was unbelievably rich, creamy, and packed with generous pieces of lobster. The clam chowder had the perfect consistency and, unlike so many others, was loaded with tender clams instead of mostly potatoes. The one-and-a-half-pound lobster was sweet, tender, and practically melted in my mouth. I wasn't in love with my pasta dish. The scallops, however, completely stole the show. They tasted as though they had been pulled from the ocean just moments before being cooked perfectly fresh, sweet, and delicate. Unfortunately, the pasta itself was undercooked and lacked flavor, even after the Parmesan cheese finally arrived. The strawberry shortcake was the perfect dessert on a hot Fourth of July afternoon. It was light, fresh, and exactly what we wanted to finish the meal. And the oysters? Absolutely phenomenal. Every single day. They were consistently fresh, delicious, and one of the main reasons we kept coming back. While the service has plenty of room for improvement, the kitchen is doing something truly special. The quality of the seafood alone was enough to make us return day after day, and that's about the highest compliment I can give a restaurant.
