We order our take out here and like it better than some the equivalents in the area. I find the food prepared promptly and it is good. For vegetarians the bean curd with vegetables is a favorite in our house. If you like the spicy food to be hotter, just ask. It is not very hot. I do not order sushi so I cannot tell you about that. We live locally and go often so we took our adult children here for lunch today. What a mistake! The food was no more than average and the portions have been reduced. The teriyaki beef was NOT good! Our main issue is with our waitress! She was terrible! She ignored us! We needed to call her over! We asked for small plates for appetizers ordered. She didn't bring so we ate off of napkins. Very hard to eat with duck sauce! We asked for mustard. Took 3 times before she brought it. We waited for the table to be cleared etc after 15 minutes after we were done so I finally found her SITTING at a back table. LOVE everything about this place. I'm a sushi fanatic and the sushi is great! I love their specialty rolls. They also have a delicious spicy edamame appetizer that is amazing-way better than your standard edamame. They also make a great mai tai or any other drink that you could be in the mood for. Their Chinese food is also excellent. Even my super picky boyfriend who's not much of a Chine food eater likes it. The bartender Lucas is friendly and provides great service if you're dining in. This will be the go to spot for us when it comes to Chinese food. The portions are huge , the flavor is amazing and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I ordered the chicken lo mein and fried rice. It was amazing. I'm very picky when it comes to the rice and they nailed it. The lo mein was your classic flavor. She ordered the general tso chicken. I had a bit of it and it was delicious. It was a rainy Sunday night when we walked in. I was sure they would be closed or tell us they were closing up. After all, it was nearly 10 p.m. But, the lady gladly welcomed us and showed us to a table. It looked like we were the only patrons there. Our server was very friendly and fast. She brought us two beers right away. Props for carrying a wide variety, including Amstel Light (which I had been wanting to try). We ordered a couple miso soups, which were delicious. My BF and I chatted while our order - a sashimi boat with a side of rice - was being prepared. We didn't wait long, though. That was a good thing, since we were both hungry as all get out. I LOVED the white fish. It pretty much melted on my tongue like butter. The salmon and yellowtail were amazing too. After we polished off the sashimi tray, we caved into craving for more, and each of us ordered a favorite: him - eel; me - mackeral. Both were divine. I would definitely recommend this place. I'll be back. I'm not sure how they are during peak hours, but when we went, we got top-notch service and excellent sushi. And the price was unbelievable - about $40 for all that! Fen Yang has become our go-to local place for sushi. The sushi is simple, expertly prepared, and always fresh. Prices are reasonable. Their Chinese and Japanese styles are distinct and genuine. However - it has recently become a hangout for the local teenagers, who are noisy and a bit out-of-control for those of us who want a quiet dinner. Last night, there was a sizeable herd of teenagers. We deliberately asked to sit as far from the children as possible, but then another group came in and they were seated behind us so they felt compelled call out to their friends over our heads throughout dinner. Their mommies would have been embarrassed. Fen Yang either needs to establish a children's section or, at least, make an effort to seat the groups of unaccompanied minors off to the side somewhere, rather than scattering them among the grown-ups. There were plenty of open tables last night and this would not have been difficult. They would otherwise get five stars from me, but I'm docking them two for unnecessarily subjecting me to their teenage customers. read more

Liked this restaurant much better before its recent renovations. Serving staff is not particularly friendly, dish I ordered was not as described in menu, and the meals no longer come with complimentary jasmine tea and pineapple chunks with the fortune cookies. The worst part, though, is that they now make sushi in the dining room. For those of us who do not like fish, the fishy smell in the room was a real turn off! On two different occasions we ordered takeout. The first time we got home to find that half the order was missing, necessitating a trip back to the restaurant in the cold and a wait for the remainder of our order. By the time I got home, the first part of the order had already been eaten. The second time I ordered takeout, I checked the bag at the restaurant before taking it home. Everyone needs a "go-to" Chinese food spot and we found ours! After driving by Fen Yang House several times during the past year, my wife and I made it our mission to give it a try. The restaurant blends in among several small shops on Atlantic Ave, so you have to keep an eye out! We were seated right away and our attention was immediately drawn to the huge menu selection - classic Chinese Food, Japanese, sushi, and dozens of specialty drinks. My wife and I each did a double-take when we saw the prices. Only $3.99 for a mixed drink! And the drinks packed a punch! I ordered sushi and my wife ordered one of the dinner specials. The sushi was fresh and the portions for my wife's dinner special were generous. We took home enough pork fried rice, sesame chicken, and vegetables for lunch the next day. Drinks, an appetizer, and 2 entrees came to less than $45! We've been back a couple times since and it's worth noting that some of the wait staff speaks very broken English. If you point to the menu when you place your order it solves that problem. Overall, the experience was great and it's worth a visit for a casual meal or just the inexpensive, delicious adult beverages! p.s. First off Jade makes this place. She works the whole bar side with grace and friendliness no matter how busy she is. We have been there many times but tonight was awesome. I'm not a huge fan of seaweed in sushi rolls so I asked for a tuna and avo roll minus the seaweed and they replaced it with a perfectly cut cucumber peel, tuna was so fresh (lived and ate sushi in San Diego for 5 years, amazingly fresh) which is always a nice treat. Veggie goyza were pan fried and so tasty. Boyfriend got his go to spicy orange chicken. Comes with rice and a app, such a good deal. Their egg rolls are awesome, not too greasy like some places. Honestly the food is good, not too greasy and seasons well. The reason for the two star review is that the customer service for lack of a better word is GARBAGE or TRASH take your pick. Been here a few times and spent on average 60-70 per visit. Friends live nearby and this is our go to Chinese restaurant. So again I come in and get food and Im supposed to get a General Gau chicken for free since I'm getting crab Rangoon and all, after spending $60+ per their promotion. I mention it and the lady says NO.. I ask really ??? She refuses and basically tells me she won't .. I ask her do you really want me to go to the house .. get the flier and come back ? to get a lousy General Goa for free?? Is it really worth loosing a customer ???? A returning one who has been here a few times and will be coming back ??? She says yes calls over the manger and they speak in Cantonese/ mandarin .. The food was nothing great. All the pork in the pork fried rice was fatty, the duck sauce tasted like pineapples, the crab rangoon was soggy, and the egg rolls were not that great either. To top it all off I found a hair in my chicken finger so my fiancé and I immediately lost our appetites. I know it wasn't mine either because it was fried in the batter. I guess the only good thing is that we didn't get food poisoning. Ever since jade house in Salem got shut down we have been looking for a new Chinese take out place to replace them but still no luck!
