Service was outstanding, starting with the reception desk, our servers and restaurant manager. They were all very attentive and promptly took care of every request we made. And the food was delicious. We tried the sea scallops appetizer, and the mushroom risotto and branzino as entrees. Everything was excellent, well prepared and presented. We also liked the fact they have a Fixed price lunch menu with 2 options: $42 - appetizer and entree $48 - appetizer, entree and dessert It is a pretty good deal considering what they deliver. I finally made it to Chef Michael White's elegant MIKA in Coral Gables. I ended-up here on a Monday night following a book event with acclaimed author and scholar, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. The restaurant was a bit better than half-full at 9:30p.m. One large table was celebrating a birthday, and everyone else appeared to be couples. There was no one at the grand bar when we arrived. We had a wonderful, very knowledgeable server. Our table was attended by two others and the Sous Chef and GM came by to check on us throughout our meal. I began by ordering my signature Belvedere martini which was made perfectly. We started with the octopus which was full of flavor. The sauces added to the bold explosion in my mouth. It was slightly more chewy than I am used to. We ordered two mains, the spaghetti with crab and caviar, and the Dover Sole. As I ate the spaghetti, I thought I would have kept cooking the pasta in fear. Thus, I am not a chef. It was so flavorful -- we both wanted more! The fish was also very flavorful, with a sauce that had capers, I think. To accompany my fish, I had a great glass of Chardonnay (remind me to get the name, later). We finished the night with the Panna Cotta and a chocolate mousse dish, both so beautiful I had to take pictures, even though this was not a photograph your food crowd. I could have bathed in both. I would have rolled around on the floor in both, they were that good! I gave MIKA four stars because the octopus was slightly tough and everything was just a bit over salted for my taste. I don't mind paying $100+ for Dover Sole, but it should be de-boned/fileted table-side. Service was exceptional and the restaurant is a monochromatic heaven. I am able to overlook him because the food was delicious. The bread service was delicious with flaky, soft focaccia w/ herbs and a whipped butter/cream dip. So good. Then he had the caesar salad. the spicy breadcrumbs added a nice touch. The meat was juicy and tasty and cooked to perfection with a side of mushrooms. The black truffle pasta was amazing! Definitely get this! Incredible to pair with the meat. I had seen a picture of the mini ice cream cones, but it was not on the menu. I asked the waiter if we could order, he lied to my face to say they were out of stock. Then i look at the table of girls next to me and guess what they are eating... CONES! The water boy let the cat out of the bag-- that the manager only gives them to "special people". So i asked to speak to the manager, and then the cones showed up. Very unprofessional and this broke my trust. But at least I got the cones. But we also got the tiramisu and it was the top 5 ive ever had, delicious! They also had convenient street parking and valet available. We went to lunch during the week. The restaurant was quite full and we made sure to have a reservation. They have a lunch menu that includes options for two or three course meals. We ordered the three course. I had the octopus appetizer, branzino entrée and the panna cotta dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. Even the bread that is provided for the table was very toasty and had an olive oil and citrus flavor. Mika is 5 star dining , hands down! Definitely ask for the specials, although their regular menu is great . We had the tagliatelle (with shaved white truffles which happened to be in season) in a light butter sauce. This dish was literally mind blowing !!! I've had many versions at different restaurants, through the years and this one superseded the finest one we've ever experienced ( at cafe Milano in Washington DC back in the early 2000's!) Their bread service is fresh & delicious and complimentary ! It's accompanied by a ricotta / olive oil spread. We asked and were told one of chef Mike white ' s signature dish is the saffron gnocchiette , so we ordered that , as well. My husband raved about it , adding he would never have chosen that particular dish off of the menu. He was so happy we asked about the special s from an Italian server! He would've ordered the mushroom risotto, which now gives us another reason to return ! My white truffle pasta was so beyond that i couldn't bare the thought of tasting anything else ! I had it in my mind to have a side of wild mushrooms with the pasta , but we obviously boxed this up for later. I also had fries, and those were good, crispy outside, soft inside and salted well. THE SERVICE: Service was ok, good, but left more to be desired. Upon entering, the host (which I think was the owner or manager) was fantastic. Upon seating, the waiter came a few mins after - I didnt get his name, and he handed the the menus to us and left. There wasnt an introduction, a welcome or recommendations or any form - I hated that. It makes the guest feel unimportant. The team came, and brought us bread with riccotta spread 5/5. The waiter came back and got our drink order and didn't seem as rigid, but not very conversational - spoke to a minimum and had his personality switch off. When we placed our entrée order, I had to ask for recommendations and house favorites - instead of it being freely offered. Ever since I saw Mika pop up, I immediately added it to my list of must try spots and I'm so glad I did! We came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and it ended up being the perfect choice for the special occasion. The space is absolutely stunning. We got some cocktails and my boyfriend ordered an old fashion to start, which we both enjoyed. We ordered the tuna tartare with caviar and Japanese milk bread, along with the grilled octopus that came with crispy potatoes and a chorizo vinaigrette. I honestly can't tell you which one was better! They wete both insanely good and every bite was flavorful, and beautifully presented. For the main course, we shared the 24 oz Ribeye and got a side of the truffle potato purée. The steak was cooked to perfection, super tender, juicy and not that fatty. The potatoes were velvety and rich and had the perfect hint of truffle to complement the steak. I had every intention of trying one of their pastas, but I was way too full , even skipped dessert, which is rare for me! Mika was delicious! I came to Mika for lunch to try their set menu and it was incredibly good. Portions are just right and you will not leave hungry. As soon as we arrive for our reservation our table was ready as promised. The wine list is excellent... lots of wines, most over $125 but a great selection. Their set menu is about 45 for a 3 course experience which was just perfect. We had for appetizers the hamachi tiradito and the lobster burrata. Both were delicious. For our main course we had the branzino which comes with grilled asparagus and also the fresh pasta with crab meat and seafood. (I forgot the actual name) everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. For dessert I recommend having the chocolate cake. It is creamy, luscious and indulging without being too sweet. I've been to Mika twice and both times were excellent! The hamachi crudo is a MUST - truly delicious and a perfect appetizer. On my most recent trip, I got the saffron gnocchetti, which was incredible - it was super filling, so definitely something to get if you're super hungry. I split the budino with my friend and OMG - the richest chocolate dessert. So good. The sommelier was also incredibly helpful and found us a great Chianti that went well with our meals - my friend got the tagliatelle and really enjoyed it, as well. The place has a cool vibe - it's not necessary to dress super fancy, but it does have an upscale feel (so probably not the place to roll up to in cutoff jean shorts). Located in The Plaza alongside Loews Coral Gables, MIKA is an absolutely beautiful space that is outfitted with moody lighting, sleek furniture and total vibes that scream Coral Gables. We were staying at the neighboring hotel and wandered over to Mika one evening for a light dinner and cocktails between a few folks. We all went with appetizers, a shared pasta and cocktails. It was a great mix that hit the spot for each of us. For our appetizers we went with the Crudo, Trio of Dips and Beef Carpaccio, then we added the Mushroom Risotto for a bit more substance. All the dishes were well crafted, fresh and delicious. The whipped feta, while the most basic of our dishes, stole the show, hands down! Cocktails were good, well made and tasty. We all went with standard cocktails, personally I went Gin & Tonic. It was classic and perfect. My favorite space at MIKA is the small lounge space beyond the bar. It is retro and super vibey, and gives the essence of conversations over cocktails. Really cool space! Service was the only thing slightly off here. Our server was just okay, and did not really seem to be interested. Was a weird feeling and not what we expected. Post dinner we decided to move to the bar for one final cocktail, and the bartenders were great. Overall, MIKA is a solid spot in a great location. This review is for the bar at Mika. The restaurant opened last week an I have visited the bar three times already so I think I will call myself a fan. The Gables needed a place like this, it's elegant, oozing in ambiente, and has a wonderful bar. If you want to dine, the dining room is stunning. And if you want to grab a cocktail and people watch the bar offers that as well. We love a restaurant with range. I am in love with the Mika Martini. As someone who loves a dirty martini, this cocktail is a little different. You can order it with gin or vodka and it comes with a caperberry as well as lemon rind. Something about it is the perfect balance of refreshing as well as briny, and I am obsessed. The entire cocktail menu is interesting, although I am pretty hooked on the Mika Martini at the moment. I have also tried an espresso martini, and their version of the old fashioned. Both were great. While I haven't dived into the full menu, I ordered the pan con tomate last night to snack on and it was divine. I will need to come back to have a proper meal, but my experiences at the bar have been wonderful. The bartender's - specifically Stuart and Clarissa - are super nice! If you plan to dine here I would suggest making a reservation as it is definitely a hot spot in the Gables. read more

Looked like former NBA star Ray Allen was present this evening at the bar as well. Good wine list, with bonus points for having a couple of Bertani, Dal Forno and a Quintarelli Amarones on the list. Wines by the glass are a little pricey but the reasonable $16 Pinot I had was quite good. Ordered the tagliatelle. The noodles were nice and soft while the meat sauce had an excellent flavor. Fairly priced at $28. Asked for and received some bread that was good as well....without a doubt you must order their Caesar Salad--best in Miami. Could use some work on the dessert menu. Unless I missed it I did not notice a tiramisu offering while the other items seemed fine but I was not in the mood to spend $16-18 on a dessert--I opted for a second glass of wine instead. Very classy place. The dining area reminds me of a lobby area you would find at a classy hotel or a fine Jean-Georges restaurant. I would definitely come back here again. We had the pleasure to visit MIKA on Monday and were so impressed by the quality and innovative character of the food! Having visited various restaurants around the world with Michelin stars and recognitions, we understand the value of creativity on the table. MIKA really surprised us, we ordered all of the chef's special creations, albeit with some reluctance because we had other menu items in mind, but being open to suggestions did not disappoint. The lobster burrata and the Hamachi were flavorful, yet light. The octopus fusilli was so interesting, it is really like a Bolognese, but not quite. We opted for the budino, again as a recommendation of our waiter, and it was also delicious. The cocktails are craftly prepared, so we recommend trying them out if that's your vibe, but they wine list is extensive. They also have by-the-glass options. The décor blends traditional with elegant, so we suggest dressing the part. Lastly, the attention is top notch, although we received some unsolicited advice as to how to finish a cocktail. I didn't take it personal, but I was a bit surprised by the "you are supposed to..." in a restaurant of that quality. Absolutely amazing experience at Mika. I honestly can't remember the last time I went to dinner and every single plate was completely empty by the end of the night. That alone says everything. Highlights from our meal included the beef carpaccio, the tuna caviar, and the tagliatelle--each dish was beautifully executed and full of flavor. There was also a pork ragù special (I wish I remembered the exact name) that was outstanding and easily one of the best bites of the evening. My boyfriend took me to Mika for my birthday. The ambiance is beautiful and our waitress was very kind and attentive, which we appreciated. The food was overall just okay. The Wagyu carpaccio was average, but the grilled octopus was delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. We ordered the Wagyu NY strip (medium), but it took about 30 minutes to arrive, which was frustrating. The staff did apologize for the delay after the fact. They brought us a complimentary dessert because of the wait, which was a nice gesture, though we weren't given an option to choose. It ended up being red velvet cake, but unfortunately it was dry and not very moist. The wild mushrooms and crispy potatoes were very good, though the mushrooms had a slightly sweet taste that was unexpected. Drinks (Prosecco, Mika Martini, and Figs Old Fashioned) were fine but nothing special. Overall, nice atmosphere and friendly service, but the food and timing didn't fully meet expectations. 3/5 experience. read more
