Middlesex Diner had been one of our "go to" places for breakfast and the occasional dinner. Many restaurants were recently forced to either adopt a surcharge policy if you ordered eggs due to skyrocketing costs or simply raised prices. Thankfully, the price of eggs has come down to a more reasonable level and I haven't seen an egg surcharge anywhere in months...except at the Middlesex Diner. To their credit, they clearly make that policy clear before you go inside. And their food prices are more than reasonable. But it just looks like price gouging. So maybe add a few cents to the prices. Note that they also charge a 3% credit card fee. Personally, I'm okay with that since using a credit card is a convenience to me that I have no problem paying for. read more

A coworker and I stopped in for lunch mid week. The diner is large and spacious with good lighting and clean too. Looking for something I could cobble up as gluten-free, I opted for the Greek salad with grilled chicken. My coworker ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich with fries. The salad was huge! Another customer nearby asked what I had ordered. It was a bowl of romaine and iceberg salad with tons of mild feta, olives, cucumber and probably a whole pepper sliced up. The chicken was tender and almost shredded. Flavorful, fresh crunch and not over salted. The Greek dressing was mild and delicious. My coworker's Monte Cristo platter was also what he considered excellent. The service was fast and friendly. I would certainly recommend this diner to anyone based on my 1st experience. read more

Yep in For brunch fri end of March 2019 after work at dealership. I had the baked Haddock sandwich, side salad with ranch and chips. Now the fish was yummy but I took it off my bun. It was a HUGE hamburger bun. Just too much. Cocktail sauce and my fish was great. Ate my pickle and small coleslaw. I took the lettuce from my fish and made more of my salad plate! Hee hee. Honestly I gave this restaurant a 3 because the server was very pleasant. My iced tea was out of a machine, I.e. had an instant taste. My senior turkey dinner was piled high. But the dressing was tasteless as was the turkey and even more so, the gravy which was heaped onto everything. I usually love turkey and dressing but in this case, size doesn't matter enough to make up for the flavor. Lastly, I opted for the mushroom soup over the salad. Bad decision. A very nice diner we ate dinner at on our trip up north. Comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices, extensive menu, friendly service , good portions and homestyle cooking. My dining mate abund I both ordered the light/ senior dinner of broiled haddock. Our meals came with soup or salad and 1 side. I had the cream of mushroom soup and baked sweet potato as my side. My dining mate had salad and mashed potato as a side. Everything tasty and presented nicely. Desserts displayed nicely in a case. What a nice diner so close to our hotel. Total meh. Very disappointed. I try to frequent local diners and small businesses but this one earned a big "no return". Just had dinner there Friday 06/24/22. I ordered the special.... Veal parmigiana with spaghetti. Veal was tough like a piece of shoe leather. No real flavor. Sauce was minimal and flavorless. Hardly any cheese. Took my leftovers home hoping I could spruce them up. Only took a little garlic, parm, oregano, basil, and cheese. Still a piece of shoe leather though. My guest had their French onion water. Yeah, not soup... flavorless. I should start by saying I'm extremely close to 5 stars here and it's because of the total package that makes up this place. I'll likely get to 5 on the next visit. My wife and I wanted to try this place out and it was busy but they had room to seat us right away. Our waitress was fantastic. Fast, friendly and kept our coffee hot! The decor was awesome too! I'd never seen a St Patrick's Day tree before. I love quirky diner decor! The food is a bit above average across diners I've been to. The omelette that I had was cooked perfectly and extremely tasty. The scrapple was also excellent. Perfectly crispy on the outside and hot. I'm so glad this place is nearby! On my way home driving from Ohio back to NJ we ordered a to-go order from this diner. Really nice over the phone and when we got there they had the food ready to go. The food was decent. After 3/4 way through our meal a cockroach crawled up the wall inches away from our table. The food was good. The staff was friendly. But I won't be going back again. I almost got sick from the thought of roaches crawling all over the food & plates etc. I certainly hope they can quickly remedy the problem. My wife and I hopped on the motorcycles this morning to enjoy a beautiful day of riding. While we were out we went to Middlesex Diner for lunch. Food was good. Waitress was good. Went to pay the bill with my debit card as I never carry more that a few dollars cash when I am out on my bike. Imagine my surprise to be told that there is now a 3.99% fee on credit card transactions. No sign when you walk in alerting customers to this fee, just a little piece of paper at the counter when you go to pay the bill. I would have never seen it had the host not alerted me to it. I feel that this is a poor business practice. I have a major problem with businesses that offer their customers the convenience of using alternative payment methods (Credit card instead cash) but then want to charge the customer for this convenience. To not let the customer know about this charge until after they have finished doing business with you is deceptive. read more

Always poor quality on food and freshness. They serve your fast and have a huge menu, but sometimes more is not always better! Scale down the menu and make it all taste better.
