I was really craving a steak so I decided on Momma Spriggs for dinner while I was in town for work. I got the mozzarella planks for an app, really big and cheesy. For my entree, I got the oak sirloin and double mashed potatoes instead of veggies. This steak was cooked perfectly and like in the name, it has a unique flavor from being aged in an oak barrel. The mashed potatoes were also fantastic. I got carrot cake to go which I enjoyed in my hotel. It does have nuts, and I do prefer carrot cake without nuts, but other than that it was delicious! read more

Lunchtime visit. Shared a club sandwich with the homemade chips and a crab pretzel. The club was packed with lots of meat (maybe more than we even needed). The chips were fresh and crispy. The crab dip on the pretzel had a great flavor but not a ton of crab. The pretzel itself was a little underwhelming. Service was good. The restaurant itself is very dinerish. I made reservations for 11 family members, and we chose Momma Spriggs because of its convenient location--about midway between those of us in Western Pennsylvania and others from the Philadelphia area. We considered many different options, but ultimately selected Momma Spriggs for their spacious dining room and ample outdoor seating. I was in the area and Spriggs came up as as a local fave. I stopped by for take out. I loved the pleasant & laid back vibes as I entered. The place is beautiful, great styling and everyone looked so delighted to be there as they lunched on the terrace or they dined inside. I was greeted warmly by the hostess at the register. Other staffers smiled and held the door for me as I left after grabbing my food. The meal was great. We had fish tacos and the lasagna. Great portions, thoughtful packaging for take out orders, , nice price point. The portions were generous and the flavors were nice. This is my second time here and the first time for Jenni. The restaurant is nice and appears fancy but the food is moderately priced and includes simple fare like cheeseburgers and also more expensive items like crab cakes and steaks. I had crab cakes and Jenni had the Oak Barrel Sirloin. My cakes were great and Jenni loved her steak; she gave me a couple pieces and I loved her steak, too. We didn't think the salads were great because, although pretty, they were small and skimpy. I remembered this from my first visit. I would rate our experience as 3.5 stars because my crab cakes were good and our server, Breonna, was super friendly and checked on us at a good frequency. Jenni agrees about the excellent service but felt her steak earned 4.5 stars so I'm averaging the rating for 4.0 stars. read more

I'm not sure where to start. We did get seated right away as we were there for the Carlisle Spring Show. As a party of 7 The apps seemed okay but that's were it ended 4 out of our 7 couldn't eat their dinner. As a waitress stopped by several times and noticed that no one touched their meals, but didn't bother to ask how they were. I finally decided to say something only as constructive criticism that the turkey dinner that I had was not edible to that point the waitress was very taken back. Momma's is fairly large, with 160 seats including indoor and outdoor seating. It looked like there was a small private room for events. We all enjoyed our food. The chicken wings were tasty and crispy. I ordered the Parrot Head salad with grilled chicken. I love all the ingredients. It could have used more of the fruit toppings and the candied almonds were slivers and virtually undetectable. Service was friendly and efficient. I had been afraid we'd have to wait for a table as the parking lot was quite full (though we had no trouble parking.) Our friendly waitress, Chelsey, was very attentive and professional. She brought out the fresh bread and butter and my husband ate it all. I ordered the NY Strip and Maryland-Style Crab cake with green beans and sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the Prime Rib with baked potato and green beans. Our food was cooked perfectly. Seriously, our steaks were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My husband ordered the Cherry Cheesecake for dessert and ate every last crumb. Scrumptious! The atmosphere of Momma Spriggs gives you a back-home-at-your-Moms feeling and it's full of conversation but not too loud. We could speak to each other at normal levels. Stopped here for dinner after a long day at the GAOS in Harrisburg. Looked at Yelp for the legit customer reviews and decided to stop. This place was fantastic. The service was excellent. Asked what was the local favorite and the waitress rattled off just about everything on the menu. Started off with the pretzel that was covered in crab dip. 10 out of 10. They don't skimp on the dip. Perfect size for 2 people to share. One of our party had the half chicken and another got the bacon pork chops. I got the steak and cake. NY strip cooked perfectly medium rare and seasoned well. It came with a nice sized crab cake that was outstanding. I was planning to get dessert but was stuffed. The cost for everything came to $86. That's cheaper than a family trip to 5 Guys burgers. On top of the mediocre food, I left an item at the restaurant, called to confirm they had it, then returned a few days later (they are closed Sunday and Monday) to be told they did not have it. Given where they keep their lost and found stuff, only way it could have vanished would be if an employee pilfered it. Adding to my disillusionment, no apology or mea culpa of any sort. Fast and friendly service. Chicken quesadilla was good. Got the Chesapeake chicken for dinner and it was really good. The crab cake on top had lots of flavor and the chicken was tender. Had the chocolate peanut butter cake for dessert and it is rich but so delicious. The cake was moist and the peanut butter frosting was so tasty. Met family up here for an early dinner while on travel for work. They've been coming here for years, and its obvious that the staff know their regulars by name. They normally don't take reservations for groups less than 6, but we needed a wheelchair accessible table, and they were happy to hold one for our group. Prompt service, the bread on the table is pretty tasty--has a very doughy taste if that makes any sense. The menu is decent--sandwiches, salads, pastas, and different protein-based entrees. The beet salad was a special, and I had to try it. Right away, I was impressed with the number of shrimp. Usually when you add shrimp on to a meal, you get 5-6 shrimp. Here, it was at least double that. The salad was solid and satisfying, with candied walnuts, cheese, and pickled eggs under a balsamic vinaigrette that came on the side without me even having to ask! Seems like that's their standard which is nice. I hadn't noticed the dessert case on my way in, but the rest of the family did and they had already decided that we were ordering dessert. I got the chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, while the table also got the carrot cake and bailey's cheesecake. The peanut butter frosting was so light and whipped on the cake, which helped balance how heavy peanut butter can feel at times. The cake was extremely moist and rich--I was in heaven. I also stole a bite of the cheesecake--subtle hint of bailey's with a chocolate crust on the bottom. It was fine, but never would have been my first choice. While we ate inside (and it was quite chilly with the AC blasting) they did have ample outdoor seating also available in front of and behind the restaurant. We met friends for lunch. There's a large parking area. They request that your entire party is present to be seated. We tried the wings and crab cheese pretzel as appetizers. For lunch we had pulled pork sandwich, Baja wrap, and surf and turf salad. Everything was delicious. The desserts were amazing. We tried the coconut cake and crème brûlée. It is BYOB.
