First impression when I walked in was not really good. The set down counter was cluttered and was being used for staff stuff. The area I could set at was visibly dirty and needed wipe down. The next thing was my sever. Her personality was very dry . Now listening to the rest of the staff. That is not the norm. Today I ordered the senior Haddock. That came with a drink and dessert. The fish was cooked to perfection. And the tapioca was freshly made. If I had to make any comment on the food it would be my soup was overcooked. Now setting at the counter I saw a lot of different dishes coming out of the kitchen. There was not too much that i saw I would turn my nose up at. This place was swamp. So I probably saw it all. So I'm sure with their menu they will have something for you. Do I recommend this place..,, Yes it's diner food. My meal was above average. I liked the overall value. Our waitress seemed like she did not want to be there, and she forgot several things (my chips, my friend's side of Mayo and my other friends drink). My third friend asked to be sure the shepherds pie did not contain onions, as she is unable to eat them. She was assured that it does not contain onions, but it did. Today wasn't a good day. The breakfast was great except for two things. Got my toast and there was a tiny spot of butter on some of the toast and none on the others. Secondly, the new manager came in wearing heavy cologne, or body wash, that fumigated the front of the restaurant. He stood at the register the entire time we were eating, and the smell was enough to gag a maggot. It ruined the taste of our breakfast and the enjoyment of the moment for us. Was seated quickly - typical no-nonsense 'let's get down to business' service. Food came quickly...ordered breakfast (ham & eggs). Food was decent as was the portion size. Ambience was '20th Century Diner' - which is fine for me. If you want food and no frills, this is your place....if you want an exquisite culinary experience...it isn't. There are options to sit at a long counter or at a booth/table if that's more your style. My wife and kids enjoyed breakfast - the pancakes are huge! I ordered a monte cristo (my go to diner food), and it was alright (not the best, not the worst). I wouldn't recommend ordering a side of bacon - you don't get much at all for the price. The service is the reason holding it back from a full five stars. It wasn't overly busy at all when we were here, but we didn't see our waitress except to order and to pay the check (which we were ready to do, but had to wait around for almost 10 minutes for her to finally make her way back over to us). The waitress was normal without much of a personality unless your a regular (aka they don't like new people unless possible student) nothing with telling soups or specials which I know there one the board. We had mott's sticks as an appetizer the lobster bisque was bland and fake crab. Shrimp basket fresh out of the frier and the fries yummy. I believe there's Walnut Bottom, Fairgrounds, and this one with possible one more. All in all a diner is a diner. I usually frequent them more so for breakfast, but occasionally I'll dine in. On this particular visit to a diner, I had a hot open-faced sandwich; prime rib to be more specific. It was served with mashed potatoes and another side, I opted for beets which were somewhat unsatisfactory, but overall it was a good meal. The price was right as was the portion. The only shortcoming I can really point out is the service seemed rather slow. Almost inattentive. Granted, there was a large party sitting behind us, but I only ever saw one server working with them and it wasn't ours. We hardly saw ours at all. I had their Carlisle feast and the portions were HUGE. The big sausage patty was good, and the hash browns were fresh and prepared pretty well, albeit a bit bland - the eggs were too. The young man who seated us and got our drinks was very pleasant however our waitress never offered a breakfast menu when it was 10am, she was rude while taking our order, and it was very unprofessional that she only visited our table 2x throughout our visit. She was a petite, blonde lady with the customer service ability of a twelve year old. She plastered on a very condescending voice when she offered to bring me something else if I wasn't satisfied with my meal. I politely declined and thought that was the end of it. HOWEVER, when you have a wall made of MIRRORS, you should remember not to pull a face after turning away from your customers. Ya'know, with the reflection and all. The wait staff is good, the food is diner food. Exceptionally fast kitchen. Atmosphere is a diner. You get a diverse group of people depending on the time you go. Unfortunately I am not allowed to go there due to the owners discriminatory practices and her judgmental attitude. I do not wear shoes for medical reasons. The only thing that has cured a nagging back problem has been to toss my shoes out the window. I tried to reason with her to allow my shoeless presence (there aren't any other diners that care that I've come across) but she wouldn't have it. Didn't even care that it was for medical reasons. It is not against any health code or law. It is no more or less unsanitary than one walking in off the streets wearing shoes. You see the same amount of foot as one wearing flip flops.
