While one of my two poached eggs was slightly overcooked, it was still jammy in the middle and the other was a perfect poach. Everything was delicious, even the cut strawberry that garnishes the plate. The sausage patty is thick enough that I'm glad the platter is served with a more robust knife than the spreading knife included in the flatware bundle on the table. It makes assembling a perfect bite possible. The restaurant is clean and bright. The service was quick and friendly and dining alone was not at all awkward. We arrived around 6 p.m. on a Tuesday evening and had the entire place to ourselves! Yianni's is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking right out front, making it an easy stop for a midweek dinner. I'd studied the menu beforehand and knew EXACTLY what I wanted: a small Greek salad and a side of traditional gyro meat. And then I saw THE DESSERT CASE. Welp...so much for THAT plan, LOL! I had absolutely no idea Yianni's had so many incredible-looking desserts! Suddenly my carefully researched dinner plan was in jeopardy because I wanted to try EVERYTHING. Responsible Adult Me managed to maintain control long enough to order my salad, gyro meat and a fountain soda. Adventure Buddy ordered a traditional gyro and a bottled drink. Our total came to around $30, which seemed pretty reasonable for dinner for two. A few minutes later, our food arrived. WHOA. Like...WHOA whoa! They brought me what appeared to be HALF A SHEET CAKE PAN FULL OF GREEK FOOD. An actual baking tray. The kind of thing I'd expect to see holding approximately 25 - 30 cookies. AND THIS WAS MY SMALL SALAD?! The food was FANTASTIC. The salad was incredibly fresh, the olives were perfectly salty, and the feta came in big, beautiful chunks. The gyro meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked beautifully. Both the tzatziki and Greek dressing came on the side, which I appreciated because I could control exactly how much of each I wanted. Meanwhile, Adventure Buddy was working through his equally enormous gyro. He made it about three-quarters of the way through before admitting defeat. I kept eating. And eating. AND EATING. Somehow, the amount of food on my baking tray barely seemed to change. Eventually, I surrendered and requested a to-go box, which I filled to MAXIMUM CAPACITY with leftovers. Seriously, the portions here are NO JOKE. Between the enormous servings, fresh ingredients, delicious gyro meat and reasonable prices, I completely understand why Adventure Buddy had been singing Yianni's praises. My only regret? I STILL haven't tried anything from that dessert case! PRO TIP: Come hungry. REALLY hungry. And if you're hoping to enjoy dessert, consider sharing an entrée or planning to take leftovers home because you're going to want to investigate that dessert case. Yianni's has officially earned a spot on my personal list of places to get a great gyro, and I'll absolutely be keeping an eye out for their food truck during future Central PA adventures.
