Progress Grill was a disappointment. Service: the service was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, very attentive to our table, a consistent level of professionalism, and the best part of our experience. Food: I got the rack of lamb and my wife selected the prime rib. Both dishes had the perfect temperature with absolutely no flavor. It was almost as if they took the meat, placed it in the oven, reached the target temperature, placed it on a plate and served it. No "enhancements" whatsoever. I was very surprised given that this is a three-dollar signed "$$$" restaurant, and it has so many good reviews. Ambiance: the restaurant feels like a traditional white tablecloth restaurant and nothing stood out. Overall, I would recommend this place. My mother-in-law absolutely wanted to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th birthday. It made me wonder "how it used to be" to build such a loyal customer base. Hubby made our reservations because he knew we would have a fine dining experience for a romantic night. The food: superb appetizer and entree choices, including stuffed mushrooms, Surf and Turf, stuffed flounder, and those beets; oh my, everything was delightful. progress grill has been around for decades. menu has been streamlined, one full page. descriptions are misleading. portions are small. wedge salad compared to Outback needs improvement. clams casino,'clams were small, not fully baked, very moist tasting, french onion soup big glob of cheese, not memorable, seafood combination, the lobster portion was the highlight, the soufflé cups threw me off, all the food was moist not cooked all the way through, almost microwave ish. service was ok, not great. Let me start by saying my husband and I have been patrons of Progress Grill for over 20 years and is our "go to" for date night and special occasions. We made a reservation for the day before Valentines Day for a Valentine date nite. This was the first time in over 20 years we were so disappointed with our service that we asked for the order to go due to poor service. Our reservation was for 7p.m. and we were seated about 7:15, we ordered drinks and an appetizer around 7:30 and we told out server we knew what we wanted for our entree but she said she would be back to take our order, she never came back, until around 7:45 with our drinks and appetizer. We ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter #2 and finally got our salad around 8 pm. It took an hour to get a side salad and an order of coleslaw. My husband went to the bar to order another drink because we were no longer waiting on our server to come back. By 8:35 we still didn't have our entree and my husband made the decision to contact our hostess and just cancel our entree however, she said it was just coming out so we requested it to go.. There were people at other tables that we had walked in with that were leaving because they were finished with their meal. The hostess apologized and comped our desserts which was appreciated and our Seafood Combo Platter's were excellent as always but the service was just unacceptable. We walked out of the restaurant around 8: 50 and still didn't eat our dinner. We were so looking forward to dinner at one of our tried and true favorite restaurants sadly we were let down. biggest disappoint. ordered lobster, two lobster tails came out which we did not order, price 76.instead of 46.00 . waitress never asked which menu item we wnted to order. lobsters were not not done correctly and were extremely tough. veal item was very small and spagehti raw and no sauce.crab cakes were not up to usual consistency.. waitress was extremely rude. bill over 200.00 four a family of four. our last visit ever read more

Progress Grill is a fabulous dining experience every time. The servers are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about all menu items. The food is prepared to look as delicious as it tastes. I love the broiled salmon and the broiled crab cakes. The warm homemade rolls are so good that I can hardly stop after one. The atmosphere is always excellent, and Nick and his wife, Mary, are so cordial and most welcoming to all customers. They greet many of them just like family. This is so endearing. Their menu and entrée selections are extensive, including more appetizers than one can imagine. My server, Alan, is quite polished and impeccable with exactitude. He continues to make sure that my takeout leftovers are perfectly organized and I love that so much. Takeout for me this week was divine ... crab cake sandwich, French fries, cole slaw and my favorite homemade rolls. I savored every delectable bite while sitting at my kitchen table. The "old world charm" is delightful and ever present with white tablecloths, candles, and a wine list at my booth. Best crab cakes you will ever have. Years ago I took a friend there from Maryland of all places - and she said these crab cakes were the best she'd ever had. Our Waiter was great-attentive but not overbearing. Both my husband & myself ordered the lump crab cakes which were truly full of crab. My husband was born & raised on the Chesapeake Bay so he knows his crab dishes!! The balance of the meal was sorely lacking. The accompanying asparagus, which is now in season, was obviously old. Overall: Three generations of my family have been eating at Progress Grill for 20+ years. Stepping into the restaurant is almost like stepping into a time capsule, in the best way possible. The atmosphere, much of the wait staff, and the standard (especially with the crab cakes!) have not slipped an inch. Appetizers: French Onion Soup ($7) - A relatively mild, but tasty onion broth, with plentiful bread and perfect amount of melted cheese. One of the best onion soups around! Oysters Rockefeller ($16) - These oysters were large and tasty, and the garlicky spinach helped make for a great bite. Entrees: Crab Cakes w/ French Fries + Baked Potato ($40) - This is the gold standard for crab cakes. BIG lumps, only a little filler, and perfect flavor, broiled to a crispy perfection on the outside. First time. It was exceptional. We all had the #2 combo. Started with a house salad and home add blue cheese dressing. Fresh warm rolls and butter. Crusty and tasty. The combo was a crab cake, crab imperial, shrimp and scallops and stuffed haddock. The scallops were sweet and tasty! The crab meat was plentiful. Side was Brussel sprouts. This place is well worth the price. We took 1/2 of our meal home for lunch the next day. It's well recommended and was packed at 5pm. I will be back many times. As usual the lump crab starter was exceptionally great as well as the Greek salad. I tried the stuffed shrimp which were butterflied and 'stuffed' with crab. Service, quality of food and consistency! This restaurant is the best on the east shore. If you liked it twenty years ago, it is the same quality of food today. The wait staff have been there for years and treat you like royalty! Not close always greets you with a pleasant smile and will most likely remember you. I love the steaks, big and cooked perfectly every time. The prime rib is thick and juicy and full of flavor! Also, the seafood is fresh and a large portion will fill you nicely. This place is deceptively great. The signage out front reminds me of an older cocktail bar. The decor inside is comfortable and clean. If you are looking for a perfectly cooked steak and the best crab cake I've had since coming back to PA after 20 years being away, then this is a really great spot. We ordered our drinks which were very good. We then had appetizers osters and salads. Glad to see the Progress Grill is surviving the pandemic! Haven't been here in a while and since we are celebrating the "Better Half's Birthday I let her choose! She said let's go to the Progress so we did! She had a Seafood Bisque soup for starters Cream and Chunky she said it was delicious!. Her next course was a house salad and then she had the Crab Cakes. My appetizer was a Grey Goose Martini with a couple of three olives, I ordered the Prime Rib with a Baked and Brussels Sprouts. The Prime was delicious with plenty of flavorful Au Jus I ordered it Medium. Tender and thick it was one of the best Prime Ribs I ever had! I also finished off one of the wife's Crab Cakes and my personal option is don't go to Maryland go to the Progress Grill. We finished the night with Tiramisu and coffee! I wasn't at the Progress Grill for a long time. I was missing some great food. My son took me there for Mother's Day. We were blessed to get seated in a short time. It was great for me because I was using my walker. My son had the lamb chops and I had the crabcakes we had a waiter who was just great. It was such an enjoyable meal and atmosphere. We will be going back when our family comes in from Michigan. Our waiter was Cory. He was an excellent waitstaff. Kind and courteous. A Harrisburg tradition! When you're tired of lackluster service, want a classic meal out with linens and a staff that is truly pleased to see you, make your reservations as a courtesy to dine here. I've been coming here since the 1980s, and always had a wonderful meal. The food is well prepared, the service is top notch, and the bar is well stocked. I give The Grill 4 stars because hardly any restaurant gets 5 from me. That said, our server on 11/18 Tammy DEFINITELY merited 5 stars, period. The food, cocktails, setting, and all else were excellent. You really cannot go wrong with any seafood here, and we didn't. One of our guests had a steak; she loved it. Another couple had a pork chop; really liked it. It's one of those places where tradition actually means something, and the owners here seem to be striving to uphold a standard, a pretty high one, and they're doing it well. Go here and eat. It's a good place. ANd by the way, there's a whiny review by an "African American" on here somewhere re: tipping. Note to him: the PG attaches a tip fee for groups because pikers come in and whine about the tip. It's standard.
