I was here for dinner on a Monday night with about 10 coworkers. The place wasn't super busy so we were able to be seated right away. It appeared that our waiter was the waiter for every table in the restaurant and he did such a fantastic job! The menu is a pretty standard American menu. ATTENTION ALL : THIS IS NOT A DRILL! In my personal opinion Stocks on 2nd is not only a must visit but it's a must visit frequently! We came for our anniversary dinner on a Friday night and it was pretty empty tbh. For this amazing restaurant to be right in downtown Harrisburg and not be jammed packed is sad! We cry when we lose great places, so don't let this be one of them! The lamb chops were absolutely delectable! Seasoned to perfection, and fell right off the bone! The crab cake sandwich was flavorful and just the right portion. The briskettttttt even writing about it is making my mouth water. This was hands down the best anniversary meal we've had ever, the service was so attentive too. So much so that menu's and waters were waiting for us on arrival. We mad a reservation so that was wonderful to walk into. The ambiance Is warm and cozy and we love the fact that you can hear your meal being prepared with the openish kitchen concept they have going on. After a long hot day of driving (without air conditioning - 10 hours in 90° temperature) I was looking for a restaurant that would offer a late lunch that was somewhere near my hotel here in ... (where am I?).... I checked Yelp and found a restaurant about a half mile from the hotel. I walked there on the green belt becausw I needed some activity after sitting for so long. Yes it was hot but I knew a shower was awaiting me back at the hotel. The restaurant I had chosen was actually the one next-door to this. But I'm so glad that they were closed because Stock's was great. It was cool inside and the staff was very friendly. I liked the decor - a traditional dark wood but modernized too. I scanned the menu and asked the bartender for a recommendation: the brisket or the stuffed peppers? She was vegetarian so highly suggested that stuffed peppers. It was large, the stuffing of cheese and spinach was well seasoned, savory, and absolutely delicious. Marinara sauce floated around it. While waiting for my meal I noticed that they had Pisco Sours! I hadn't had one since I was in Perú. So I ordered one. Overall it was a great place to stop and have a wonderful lunch. Do keep it in mind if you are in the area! Enjoy! read more

A must-visit whiskey and cocktail bar with dedicated staff and warm atmosphere, this sister restaurant to Carley's always goes above and beyond to deliver a memorable meal (and the best old fashioned in the city). I have a lot to say about the food, cocktails, and hospitality, so bear with me! Food: The evolving menu at Stocks brings mindful dishes in incredible portions, and pinpointing my favorites is a challenge. I'm the type to just get appetizers and drinks, but here that can go a really long way. The recently added roasted beet and goat cheese side is a great way elevate the happy hour Muffaletta sandwich special, or staff favorite Chicken BLT. Almost all appetizers are generously sized for sharing: Classic soft pretzel sticks are served hot, the brisket Mac and cheese or loaded fries are menu gems, and the spinach artichoke dip is the right combination of rich indulgence and fluffy lightness so you don't feel like a monster if eating the whole thing alone (I do it.) The sides are reasonably priced but never disappointing- I get the asparagus nearly every visit! For entrees, the 16 hour brisket entree is incredible, but for the veg and lower carb crowd, the eggplant parmesan is hearty without heaviness. I was sad to see the caprese flatbread leave the menu, but the fig, mushroom, and prosciutto replacement is both comforting and sophisticated. Dessert: The peanut butter pie here is one of the most indulgent and shareable things on the menu, like an enormous Reese's cup, and you can order a full pie in advance for special occasions- last year I got it for my Dad's birthday and it was a huge hit. The tiramisu is one of the best in the area, and is even better the next day if you're too full but get it to go. Beverage: When I first visited Stocks, the atmosphere was cozy and the crowd was congenial, a perfect vibe for conversation, but the cocktails are crafted and bring you back again and again. If you're a whisky person, their selection is extensive, and their half-price Wednesday special from 5-7 is unreal (Their daily happy hour features $4 Old Forester and reduced beer/ wine prices, along with a selection of their most popular bites.) Their bitters collection and house maple simple syrup make theirs hands down the best old fashioned in town. If you're looking for a mindful craft cocktail, this is one of the best seats in the city, and the experienced bartender who curates is beyond creative and accommodating if you're looking for something off menu or have a special request. While William carefully designed and refined each cocktail to offer everything from a classic tin cup Mint Julep to a balanced but fruity blackberry Bourbon Bramble (probably their most popular drink on the menu), my favorites are the robust Priest Vallon featuring aged whiskey and and port, and Exit the Warrior, a true craft botanical cocktail complete with egg white and a house infusion of sage and berries. As a final note, the hospitality at Stocks on Second excels because it's truly a team working to provide every guest with an excellent experience. The kitchen staff is not only talented but kind, and they accommodate restrictions like gluten intolerance with grace. Our group stopped here for lunch after touring the capital. The place had a nice decor and our server was excellent. Food was mainly good and we appreciated the adjustments made to accommodate allergies. We tried the kids sliders and Mac & cheese, the smash burger, the house salad with chicken and the trio of kebabs. The kebabs weren't great and not near filling enough for a lunch. I requested a side of rice to try to make it more of a meal but didn't love the rice. Made reservations for New Year's Eve and they had a specialty menu for the night. When we walked in we were seated immediately. The cocktails were amazing and the spareribs appetizers were so tender and delicious! The beef Wellington was absolutely perfect. Will definitely be back to try the regular menu! read more

I don't know who or why this restaurant got 3 1/2 stars. I guess it's a factor of "everyone's a restaurant critic", but most people are not qualified to be that at all. My wife and I had dinner there 11/17, celebrating an anniversary. The food was excellent; brisket that was tender yet not flaky; nicely spiced spareribs on a bed of tasty coleslaw; a very good cocktail. The service was attentive without being hovering. It was just as I had remembered it from 6 or 7 years ago - very good. So I'm sure the folks who did their "reviews" which resulted in this place getting 3 1/2 stars feel like they did their due diligence. If you haven't been here in a while, come back and be impressed. I believe they've gotten this concept implemented and perfected. The place has looked great since the remodel years ago and the menu and cooking is now on par with that updated image. The menu dishes rotate seasonally and they mix things up from time to time. Happy hour (5-7 M-F) is a great way to sample quality appetizers for $5 each. 10 wings and a brisket French fry is plenty to share with two people. (They recently changed the brisket tacos to carnitas and the fries were short rib instead of brisket). whiskey Wednesday from 5-7 is half off whiskey drinks. $4 for a whiskey sour is a great deal for such an amazing drink. Specials are good any weeknight and Wednesday is a great time to try many different drinks at a reduced price. Tonight I dined solo at the bar and was served by a cheerful Sarah who was knowledgeable and made great whiskey sours. I had a side Caesar salad to start (it was large for a side salad) and the short rib stroganoff that was served over gnocchi in an amazing sauce. I ordered a side of the Parmesan risotto and they mistakenly gave me full portion of the risotto of the day (chicken with fried peppers and onions) and it was so good. I barely ate any of it because the short rib stroganoff was so good, but I did manage to enjoy several tasty pieces of chicken and risotto. I will continue coming here for the quality food and awesome prices. The service has been top notch and I feel welcome and satisfied every time I dine here. You will too. read more

First the good: the peanut butter pie is peanut heaven, if you like rich desserts. The Maryland crab soup was just okay. I'm a big fan of old fashioned drinks. WhIle this place specializes in bourbon drinks, their version of old fashioned was above average but not special like I imagined. I did enjoy the meatloaf dinner with asparagus, although the bacon could have been a tad more crisp. Lastly, waitressing 101 says don't deliver glasses to customers with your fingers all over the rim where they will place their lips to drink - that's just nasty. read more

This review is only for the atmosphere and drinks. I have yet to try something to eat though I really need to next time. The atmosphere is so nice and cozy. I love the decor and the lighting. They have outside seating as well. They also have live music sometimes which adds to the ambiance. The time we went it was a perfect volume that you could still have conversations yet still hear the music. The star of this place is the craft cocktails. They have a full menu of them and if you look at the bar you can see all of the ingredients they use at the bar and they even crush their own ice for certain cocktails. I tried the bourbon bramble which had bourbon and raspberries and mint and crushed ice among other things. It was delicious! Others got fun looking and tasting cocktails so this place definitely knows their craft! I'll have to come back and try their food but for now it's a good place to come for a nice relaxing evening with a fun atmosphere and delicious cocktail! read more

I haven't come to Stocks in a long time and I don't know why. The staff is prompt and friendly. I am usually here for happy hour, 5pm-7pm, because who doesn't like a bargain? Their happy hour menu has many choices and all are only $5! My favorite item is tied between the Beef Brisket Fries, and the Jamaican Jerk Wings! Wednesday's are "Whiskey Wednesday" and all whiskey is half price! Their full menu is also nice and the food is very good. Outdoor seating is now available too! I still have mixed feelings about this place so I might give it one last go. I wanted to give a shout out to waiter Matt who made the experience awesome. I can say that this place has redeemed the serviced aspect on my end. He was extremely attentive and informative for restaurant week. For restaurant week I had the following with my friend -Country Fried Chicken As I had warned my friend, the Fried chicken would be perfectly crisped and juicy but bland. And as expected, it was. I'd say the low of the meal was when we got a biscuit that was cold in the middle but our waiter was kind enough to get us a new biscuit and apologized -Scottish Salmon Perfectly cooked - I would recommend it again but I'm not so sure how I felt about my salmon being on a bed of "bread salad" which was bread soaked in balsamic and vanilla. Loved the intent and creativity, not so sure about the execution and flavor as soggy bread isn't the greatest unless it's bread pudding. Perhaps instead of soaking the bread perhaps a drizzle of thick basalmic instead? -Mini Peach Pie My peach pie was cold in the middle a bit but honestly I'd say that Honey Cinnamon Ice Cream took the cake for me. -The Wedge Delicious but not memorable. This is a good place for foodies. Very few places in Harrisburg offer beet chips, bacon dust, and fried quail eggs. Their food is really good. I find the lunch menu to be much more solid than the dinner menu. They always have seasonal offerings and sometimes they seem to suffer from "great on paper, not so great in reality" where they just don't come together very well. Often, too many good ideas competing against each other. No matter what, they quality is always good. The building is beautiful. Dark woodwork. High ceilings. It's great for business and personal dinners. The bar is pretty extensive. Just be careful in ordering if you don't know the cost, their drinks can get really expensive - just ask the gentleman I worked with who ordered two different scotches (neat) and ended up paying over $20 for one of them. The boss was really "happy" to pick up the tab for that business lunch. I like the white bean soup off the bar menu. Everything on the menu is worth a try. The service is very good 85% of the time. Every so often you get a "top chef wannabe" who is really snooty. I do like that it doesn't feel like a meat market of 20 somethings. HUGE SUGGESTION: Go for happy hour M-F. We love Carley's and when I found out that this is their sister store I was expecting nothing but good food - and I wasn't wrong! I had the crab cake entree. It was delicious and the sauce wasn't a normal tartar sauce. Sooo good! The star of my night was the tiramisu. This was one of THE best I've ever had. I have been here about four times now and have mixed reviews. I really love the atmosphere and the look of the place. The food is farm to table which is trendy but doesn't really add anything to the experience in my book. The drink menu is more traditional. If you want a stiff whiskey drink this is the place to go. If you want a sweet drink, this is not your go to. The food here is all good that I have tried so far. The menus also have funny quotes for you to read. All together a good dining experience that you won't ever regret but it isn't a place that will make you count down the days until you go back which is why it is only 4 stars. read more

Our server came back and kindly explained that the bartender would not and offered me a $17 Rye flight VS the $24 plus $1 premium flight that I was going to purchase. Both yummy! The chicken club had a sweet pepper aoli that was sooo good. It made up for the fact that the sandwich didn't have cheese. The sandwich came with chips, which were beet and sweet potato( I think). The sweet potato ones were good and crunchy, but the beet ones were a little too oily and didn't have much crunch. This high rating is for their service, sweet potato fries, and huge portions. All other dishes I tried would have gotten it only 2 stars. AMBIANCE: It is a neat, jazzy bar/restaurant. It's got a pretty long bar inside, a good seating area in and outside. I came on a fairly nice day out so I sat outside and enjoyed the people watching. LOCATION: Right in the middle between 2 restaurants, an Asian fusion one that I've tried (you should go check out my review for cafe fresco) and on the other side a cool looking sports bar (I will have to check that one out the next time I visit Harrisburg). Street parking and is off of one of the main streets in town. I recommend walking here if you can. SERVICE: Very quick, friendly and accommodating front host. He got me seated within seconds and I was ordering in 5 mins. I like it quick, I know others like to take their time and I'm sure he would've been fine to come back. Mind you, when I got here during happy hour it wasn't too packed. Lots of people at the bar but only 2 groups seated outside including myself. FOOD: it was happy hour so it was my chance to taste several things including their wings, venison fries (sounded interesting), and their pork grinder. I also got their $3 Miller lite draft for kicks. Overall, everything was very bland. I am normally a person that never really adds salt to anything, most people tell me I have a very bland palette so when I tried their dishes here I was shocked to find that I was craving something to offset the flavorless items. The wings were fried in a very interesting corn mill-esque type ingredient, which goes with their "healthy" persona and it wasn't bad in terms of texture because it was indeed crunchy, but the flavors were lacking. The venison fries were some thick cut fries with a clump of soggy shredded venison on top. The flavors on the venison were good, I almost didn't even realize it was venison, but the dish as a whole was not interesting or elevated. I would've rather had the venison between a burger bun. Finally, the pork grinder was very soggy and bland shredded pork mixed with some greens. It looked amazing, the bun was crunchy and warm when it came out, but the actual pork was like tasting water. What I did love out of this entire meal were the sweet potato chips that came with the grinder! These were to die for in my opinion. They were delicious, not overly salted, super thin so super crunchy and sweet potatoes already give enough flavor on their own. I would have totally replaced my fries for an entire dish of these chips, they are a must try. I would probably not come back here for anything other than the fries, but for those looking for a cheap happy hour, this is the place to go. HUGE portions for a great price. PRICING: Everything during happy hour was fairly priced at $5/dish. The portions were a good size. Their regular menu was a bit more expensive ranging from $15-20/entree. This is a farm to table joint so the price increase is expected. It's funny how the "healthier" things in life are more expensive and harder to obtain. read more

I am always impressed with the food at Stocks. I've had tuna steak and California rolls here that were magnificent, and recently tried the pastrami sandwich for lunch which was absolutely amazing. The server told me they actually have the pastrami shipped direct from NYC - the authentic stuff! The atmosphere is quite nice inside and you might be surprised to find a VIP style loft overlooking the inside of the restaurant as well as a large catering room in the back for parties.
