I stopped in for brunch this weekend with a friend after seeing their new menu and brunch specials on social media, and I'm so glad we did! We ordered the oxtails and grits along with a pitcher of pineapple mimosas. The grits were honestly some of the creamiest I've ever had! The oxtails were tender, very meaty, seasoned perfectly, and came with a delicious gravy. Everything was flavorful without being overly seasoned. And yes -- the mimosas were STRONG! I also ordered the strawberry stuffed French toast and bacon to take home, and it did not disappoint. The French toast was really good and, thankfully, not overly sweet. The service was another highlight. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we were taken care of without being overbearing. I also really appreciated the atmosphere. The music was playing, but at a comfortable volume where you could actually enjoy it and have a conversation -- not the "why did I come here?" level of loud that some brunch spots have. The location is also a plus. It's far enough away from the busiest part of 2nd Street that parking wasn't a hassle, and they have their own parking lot, which is a definite bonus in downtown/midtown Harrisburg. The Review: Men in the Kitchen My reviews are different. I do not announce myself or tell anyone. I am here to do a review!! It was a rainy Sunday, and I was working up a hunger while driving Uber for content. I went to three different spots before I finally found the place I should've gone to first. The food and atmosphere at this restaurant are so good that I want to find another establishment just like it, but so far--at least on this day--nothing in the area can beat it. I don't know why I treat this restaurant like a good wife that a man might constantly cheat on but always returns to. I'm not saying that I actually cheat; I'm just using that for context! So, I found myself once again at Two Men in the Kitchen. Since it was Easter Sunday, they offered a buffet or a special limited menu. There was fish and chicken wings available, and I chose the wings. Since I don't eat meat often, I asked for their "House Sauce," and it is by far amazing. I paired the wings with the 3-cheese baked mac & cheese and sweet potatoes. I went for the sides first because I wanted to save the best for last--I already knew that house sauce was going to be incredible, especially on the chicken and greens eggrolls they have. The mac & cheese was great; it had a crunchy outside yet remained soft in the middle, and the cheese pull was amazing. The sweet potatoes were definitely homemade; I could tell because every slice was a different cut, which I appreciate because it proves they didn't come out of a can. Now for the best part: the chicken wings. They were cooked perfectly--neither overdone nor underdone, with no pink on the inside. Everything was pure. I did happen to taste a little bit of Old Bay on the wings, so I asked the chef if that was part of the secret seasoning. He said no, so maybe someone slipped some in by accident, but it didn't stop me from indulging. I also ordered one of their house special drinks--a Hennessy and rum cocktail. It was a very pretty drink, but unfortunately, I am not a fan of Hennessy. Personally, I think it tastes like house keys or licking a brass knob when you're a kid. On my scale, the drink was a 2 out of 5; I just don't think rum and cognac should mix, but that's just my opinion. The atmosphere was amazing and the bathrooms were clean. I will definitely visit this place again and again, although sometimes it is hard to tell if they are open because of the heavily tinted windows. For those who know the area, this is the old firehouse in Harrisburg. I was told that on the weekends, they clear some tables to create a dance floor, which is a nice touch. There is plenty of bar seating and booths, making it a kid-friendly environment. The only thing I don't like--which applies to every restaurant on 2nd Street--is that it's very hard to find parking. First off... love the name of the place and the menu looks great!! I did get confused on which door to come in. I don't see it properly posted. I also couldn't pay for parking. You have to do it online, via text, and it won't allow you to purchase any time less than an hour. Kinda sucks for those carrying out. Totally not the restaurant's fault though. I got the jerk quesadilla without the jerk ranch sauce. They don't serve this or their regular quesadilla with salsa or pica de gallo so it does taste a little bland. The jerk flavor isn't coming thru for me. It's a little disappointing but it's also just a quesadilla so I don't expect much. I'm not deterred though. I'd be interested in trying more on the menu. It seemed like a cozy place to sit and eat. I'd also like to eat there on my next visit. I'll update my review when I do. read more

Had been eager to try this place out and finally made our way down. The place was cozy and a little intimate depending on who you're with. We were sat upstairs which seemed like a multi purpose space. The lighting was super dim, so much so that I had to have my phone flash to see the menu (and I'm not that old) but we didn't mind the lighting. The music was perfect, Tevin Campbell, Keith sweat, Micheal Jackson, the goood 80s/90s r&b. Charlotte was our server and she was great. Gave great recommendations and was friendly and communicated expectations through our service. The buffalo chicken dip was amazing!! The dip itself anyway. When given the option between chips and bread, I didn't think the bread was going to be regular ol wonder bread. I think next time, I'd opt for the chips. But the dip had plenty of protein, was a really good portion. Even had some leftover to take home after we both smacked on it. We had some cocktails that were great. I don't remember the names but we had 4 different signature drinks from the menu and all were delicious and could actually taste the alcohol. Dinner was good. I think the kitchen ran out of greens so I had a sooonful of whatever was left and the cabbage instead. The tartar sauce and bang bang sauce were really good and tasted homemade. I love this idea and MITK has been on my list to try for a while.. The staff was very pleasant. I enjoyed the all black ambiance, must be hard to keep as clean as it was. We ordered a grilled steak sandwich, Mac and cheese and was given a simple of the corn bread. The corn bread was amazing, more like corn cake - so good. The Mac and cheese was very good and definitely a reorder next time we visit. The sandwich was honestly why I am not giving the full 5 stars, my husband was less than impressed- finding mostly fatty bits he picked out from his steak. Food is always good. I had the crab and shrimp egg rolls. And a side of collards. And you can't go wrong with the fish fry...Whiting. More than you can eat. Leftovers for most. My boyfriend and I went around noon on a week day so, it was pretty empty. But that didn't bother us. We were blown away by the food. They served us a piece of complimentary corn bread that was probably some of the best cornbread I've ever had. I got their wings (which weren't typical pizza place type wings- they were the full size, large wings and so so much tastier), Mac and cheese, and the Cajun corn on the cob. Wow! Everything was delicious! I was hesitant to try the corn because the menu says it's deep fried and I don't know what to expect, but it was excellent! Messy- but so so worth it. For our family reunion of 120 people, we had Men In The Kitchen cater the event -- all plated, no buffet. And let me tell you, they totally crushed it. The wait staff was phenomenal, seamlessly serving passed appetizers and drinks throughout the event. What impressed me most was when we decided to serve dinner 45 minutes early since everyone actually showed up on time -- they were completely ready. Every dish came out hot, fresh, and flavorful. We had family from Alabama, Compton, and Georgia -- some of the pickiest eaters you could imagine -- and even they were asking the chef for recipes. We've hosted plenty of events with different celebrity chefs, but Men In The Kitchen outperformed all of them. I'm not naming names, just saying. Verdict: Flawless catering, incredible staff, and dishes that impressed even the toughest critics. I eat, I judge. The fork stops with me -- your feelings aren't on the menu. read more

My companion and I stopped in for an early dinner on a slushy Saturday evening. Men In The Kitchen, located in the former Firehouse restaurant, has kept the best features of that space while adding new touches and a different color palette--lots of black and grey. Service at the bar was fast and friendly. My companion ordered lobster bites with sides of mac-n-cheese and steamed cabbage; I had the cajun pasta with chicken. Both meals were excellent, with just the right amount of cajun seasoning. The only misstep was that my meal arrived about 10 minutes after hers. There is a full bar. We recently hosted a family reunion at our home with 100+ guests traveling from across the U.S. To make the occasion special, we partnered with Men in the Kitchen, led by Owner/Chef Justin Coleman. Flavor The evening began with a beautifully plated Caesar Salad Royale, followed by a choice of Crispy Fried Catfish au Citron or Grilled Steak au Poivre with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus spears au gratin. Our vegetarian guests enjoyed a rich and flavorful Fettuccine Alfredo, while dessert closed with either a warm Butter Cake with fresh strawberries or a decadent chocolate cake with raspberries. Each dish delivered on flavor and balance, with portions that were indulgent yet refined. This place was one of the unexpected highlights of our trip! My mom randomly picked a place that was close to our Airbnb and we arrived to great music and welcoming staff. We had a party of 7 and one disabled person, they were super accommodating. The first thing that came out was complimentary cornbread and it was delicious! What followed was amazing dish after amazing dish! Homemade croutons, house made chips for buffalo dip! Delicious sweet potatoes. A group fav was the fried Brussel sprouts. We couldn't stop complimenting the food to our server Teron. By the end he brought the Chef out so we could tell her in person just how wonderful the food and experience had been. I ordered 3 appetizers and they were all not ok! The brussel sprouts weren't fresh, I never tasted the drizzle they serve on it! The collard green/chicken egg rolls were tasteless, not cohesive with each other regarding taste. There was a then layer of collard green and then chunky chicken pieces. Eating it plain it has no taste, but if you add the sweet chili sauce it's tolerable to eat. Also my egg roll was undercooked a bit. The crab and shrimp egg rolls they must use the cheapest special can of crab meat. Meaning the meat may not come from a reputable source. It doesn't even look like crab meat. It look like chicken. The old firehouse location is full of charm and highlights sophisticated style with sexy romantic ambiance. The vibes in this place are so chill i didn't want to leave. The absolute stunner of this place is the food and drinks. I've never had a first bite make my eyes roll back in my head and make me do a happy food dance. When sex on a plate is served at your table everyone will want a taste. The snapper was delicate and flaky but full of moisture and flavor sitting atop the best plate of grits I've ever experienced laced perfectly into the gouda sauce. I wanted to climb in the bowl and lick it clean. If you're looking for the perfect fruity mocktail ask for a Shirley Temple topped with pineapple juice its colorful and topped with wedges of lemon and juicy strawberry. I probably shouldn't be writing this review as I'll never again get a parking spot for Sunday brunch but I haven't been this satisfied from a meal that fed my soul in decades. read more
