    Spiced Pig Cut in half

June 2025 Babe's Grill House - Great Return Visit, Tasty Food & Friendly People My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner before heading to the bowling alley for the Dutchman Tournament. At first, I didn't recognize the name when looking up places to eat nearby, so I told my wife, "Let's give this one a try." As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, it hit me -- we had been here before, but it had been years, pre-COVID. We sat at the bar, which wasn't too busy -- just a few locals enjoying food and drinks. The bartender greeted us right away and asked if we were eating or just having drinks. We were there for food, and both ordered iced tea (I figured I'd wait until after bowling for anything stronger). My wife had the Smoked Brisket Dip with house chips. She said the brisket was tender, though she wished it had more onions and less bread. The house chips were excellent -- tossed in ranch seasoning, which added great flavor. She mentioned the sandwich would've been even better served on ciabatta like mine. I had the Spiced Pig -- pulled pork with BBQ sauce and fried jalapeños on ciabatta, plus really good fries. Everything was hot, flavorful, and fresh. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming. The other people at the bar were friendly (most seemed to be regulars -- one even lived right behind the place). The owner stopped by to ask how our meal was, and before we left, he gave us a couple of free drink coupons for a new restaurant he just opened. That personal touch really stood out. We'll definitely be back -- great food, great service, and a nice local vibe.

Guess who's back? Back again? Slim shady Adam back at it again. I come in here never knowing what I want & he picks the food & drink. Delivers every time

Delicious, freshly made food. Attentive, courteous service. Atmosphere is quaint, the restaurant is in an old house. Multiple floors. Free parking lot behind the restaurant. Excellent portion sizes at fair prices. Highly recommend the appetizer wings

Adam is an outstanding bartender. From the moment you sit down, he's attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. His drinks are consistently well-balanced, made with care, and tailored perfectly to what you're in the mood for. He reads the room well, keeps things moving smoothly, and makes everyone feel taken care of without ever being overbearing. You can tell he takes pride in his craft. If Adam's behind the bar, you're in good hands.

Great place! Food is so tasty, restaurant is so clean, service is nice. Price is not bad either.

You know you're in the right place when you can smell the BBQ even before you get to the door. I enjoyed that as soon as you walk through the door, you are greeted with so many festive Halloween decorations. I don't know why, but I get such happy positive vibes. Whether you're here to drink, eat, or both, it just sets the mood. I came here to place an order for take-out but left with so much more. While I was waiting for my food, I ended up talking to one of the owners. I was taken aback when he thanked me for coming here. It's my first time here. I was like, ok. He told me that they have been open for 13 years now. He showed me the outdoor eating area and explained to me the typical layout they have on warm nights and game nights, etc. They have a fire pit similar to what they use for their bbq and a projector to play the game for everyone to watch outside. Visualizing what he said, I can only imagine it gets super packed here on the weekend. Even on that cold night, he had turned the fire on for me to be able to take pictures and see the full vibe. It was so cool. I highly doubt my pictures can do it justice. I was very thankful that he took the time to share that with me. They were pretty busy, too. We ordered: 1. Pineapple jule margarita - This was yummy and warmed me up while waiting for my to-go order. 2. Wagyu dip - I forgot what this was called, but it was delicious with the tortilla chips. Super flavorful. Once you start eating it, you can't stop 3. Smoked Brisket sandwich with fries - The brisket was tender and juicy. The bread was nice and fluffy. It just melts in your mouth. Fries were amazing. 4. 2 item deconstructed plate 1/2 rack St. Louis Ribs and local spicy sausage with homemade bbq chips and mashed potatoes - The ribs literally fall off the bone tender, and the spicy sausage wasn't spicy but flavorful with all the seasonings. The chips were tasty. I didn't care too much for the potatoes. 5. Chocolate cake - moist chocolate cake 6. Pumpkin cheesecake - This was light and not too heavy. It tasted like it was homemade. 5. Snickers cake - I liked this it wasn't a generic candy car cake where they put pieces of the candy bar on top. It tasted like it was homemade and re-created it to taste similar to a snickers bar. Thank you very much for the warm hospitality. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back soon.

Was immediately greeted upon entry, I search Google before checking this place out. The reviews of the chocolate expresso drew me in. The bartender was friendly and the bar patrons seemed very happy. My drink did not disappoint. The food was not great. The general manager did stop over . I appreciated that. The food wasn't to my liking or my sons. The fries contained diced chicken but pulled and the chicken was rather cold for a 7$ up charge for chicken that was not it. Needed more cheese. Burger was dry. Staff was friendly. Place nice but.....

The portions here are no joke and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. We also had a slice of peanut butter pie made by Lisa, and her desserts are always amazing. If you see one of her desserts on the menu, it's worth saving room. Breakfast is honestly my favorite meals to get at Funk's. I've also been for brunch before and that's great too. They have a big menu, lots of beers on tap, and some really good specialty cocktails. The only thing to note is that when it gets really busy it can feel a little congested and noisy, but overall the atmosphere is comfortable and has a really good vibe. I can't remember our server's name, but he was super friendly, personable, and helpful, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, Funk's is a great local spot and definitely one of my go to places for breakfast in the area.

In recent years it's been updated and modernized, but the front dining area still feels the same. The back area that used to be the banquet hall is now a bar and casual dining area. Funck's got into craft beer and has a great tap list, ranging from national favorites to a lot of local and regional craft. Their food menu is varied with something for everyone. Prices are reasonable for the area and a night out. I've been many times but recently came for a family meal that was on bingo night. We all had meals, tried some craft beer, and played bingo. Our server was new but tried her best and we had a great experience. My only slight disappointment was a lot of the beers I wanted to try were out, with nothing to replace them. I ate an autumn salad with Brussels sprouts and loved it; other family had fish, soup, and cake. All the food was a hit. If you're looking for a family dining experience with quality food and ingredients, plus a good beer selection, this is a great option in Palmyra.

A visit to the brewery provides fresh pours of the classics as well as a host of specialty brews (e.g., bourbon barrel-aged Mad Elf Grand Cru, which is nothing short of magical). Many of these brews are high-octane. Handily, Troegs also serves food - and it's not the typical compliment of fried bar nibbles. The menu offers a wide and changing variety of dishes of all sizes that are damn near gourmet (e.g., braised short rib, duck confit, crab lasagna). The Bavarian pretzels with beer cheese is an obvious must. And I like the way they do payment. After you sit down, a member of the wait staff will find you, take your name, credit card, and (first) beer order, after which you can just give your name to the bar or snack bar and they will add order(s) to your tab. After you place your order you get an alarm square (like Panera) and then you pick up your food and silverware and water. Two of us ordered the BBQ brisket sandwich. It came with cole slaw and Bbq sauce and a side of fries. Dining partner really liked the brisket and said it was so tender. I asked for the bbq sauce on the side and I'm glad I did because it was a vinegar base sauce. I didn't like it at all. I found the brisket to be a little too fatty and not well seasoned. The slaw in the sandwich wasn't seasoned either. I was disappointed. Both of us thought the fries were meh. Not hot enough and not crispy. Mine were kind of soggy. Diner 3 got grilled cheese. It was a sandwich in thick bread and came with a side of marinara sauce. She said the sandwich was good. Diner 4 got the Mediterranean plate. Hummus, tabuli, zucchini fritters and tahini. She graciously offered me tastes. The tabuli was really good and the zucchini was prepared like felafel. They were ok. The pita triangles looked good. I didn't try anything else. The other diners all ordered sodas which came with twist off caps in small bottles. They liked the sodas. Overall, the food was ok. There is a gift shop with a variety of merchandise and lots of beer for sale. I asked if the beers and 'cocktails' were available as singles rather than 6 packs. And I was offered a taste. I chose the freaky fruity cherry limeade cocktail. It had too much of the taste of hops for me. The server said it's not made with hops but on the same equipment and although it was tasty, I couldn't get past the taste if hops. Not something I like. The place is nice looking, people were very nice, the menu just didn't work for me.

There are two of these in the area, we weren't quite sure which one to hit, so we opted for the one closer to our hotel in Hershey. We arrived just as they were opening at 11:00 am for lunch. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the bartender and the server. They were the only two working up front, but it was fine; our entire time there, only one other table came in (this was on a Friday). The inside was nice, and we were seated by a fire. The only gripe I have is that the chairs seemed to be the wrong size/height for the tables. But other than that, the place looked good. My wife ordered a beer flight with an assortment of sours and a wheat. I went for the Annville IPA Bold Cask. It was a really, really good beer. Smooth, fully-bodied, and with a good amount of hops. Plus, it's 9.8%, so if you ask me, that's a great way to start off a lunch! The beer flight was decent, but more my wife's thing. Now onto the food. There were a lot of great choices, and we were starving, so of course, everything looked good. We always order for our six-year-old first so they can eat while we relax. We ordered him the hot dog and tots. For our apps, we ordered the Tator Tot Nachos: house cheese sauce, fresh pico, scallions, jalapenos, cilantro lime sour cream, and chicken. And also the smoked wings with hot sauce. I'm always a fan of tator tots, maybe it's because I never had them as a kid, or they really are that good. But these were perfect on a cold day in central PA when you're hungry. The right amount of salt on the tots, crispy exterior and creamy inside, plus the toppings (I love fresh jalapeño). The wings were okay, but this was to be expected. They're smoked, and as much as I love smoked food, you never get the skin crispy (especially on wings). They had a slight smoke flavor and a good sauce, but I'm a "well done" wing guy, so these I would pass on next time. By the time we were going to order lunch, my wife realized she was already full, and we still had a decent amount of food left. So she just picked at the appetizers. I was getting there myself, but I wanted to try a burger. I ordered the Pub Burger: 8 oz, Cooper Sharp, red pepper-bacon jam, dill pickle aioli, lettuce, brioche, and fries (because who can resist more fried potatoes). It came out perfectly medium rare as I ordered and seasoned well. I was apprehensive about the red pepper-bacon jam; I'm not a fan of sweet, but in this case, it worked. It was a great burger (although I only ate a quarter of it). The service was good, and she was very personable and polite. But one thing that was strange. She was on the phone almost the entire time we were there with whom she said was the owner (or maybe a manager). We heard her discussing the reservations and large parties coming in. This was a long call, and while I know there wasn't a lot going on in the restaurant, we felt at times we needed something, and she was busy talking. I'm not blaming her; if it were the owner or manager, they should certainly know better and keep it short. But when she was there, she was great. All in all, a great recommendation from a friend that we are happy we stopped to try. We will be back again, maybe sooner than our annual trip to Hershey!

The place has a very casual, come-as-you-are bar-and-kitchen vibe, which fits the area well. Nothing felt overly polished or fancy, and that is not a criticism. It seemed like the kind of local spot where people can just show up, relax, and get a solid meal. The problem was the service on this visit. We showed up right around the breakfast-to-lunch transition and thought we had made it in time for breakfast, but apparently not. We got seated pretty quickly, which made it seem like things were moving along, but then we sat there for about 20 minutes with water glasses and no water, and really no meaningful attention at all. By the time someone finally came over with the water, we were already done and decided to head somewhere else down the street. It was also getting fairly loud while we were sitting there, and the staff seemed tired or stretched thin, so I would not be surprised if we caught the place at a bad moment, maybe during a shift change or just an awkward transition between breakfast and lunch. The restaurant was busy, which usually says something good, and the food we saw going to other tables looked pretty solid. That is why I landed on 3 out of 5. This was not a bad experience in the usual sense. It was more of a non-experience. We never got far enough to judge the food, and I do not think it would be fair to hammer the place over one oddly timed visit. But sitting that long without even getting water was enough for us to leave.
