High Dive is an interesting mashup. From the name and the first impression inside, it reads as a dark, slightly dingy dive bar, and it fully delivers that vibe. Then you open the menu and realize there is a surprisingly large Hawaiian themed food selection. It is not really a restaurant, though. It feels like a bar first, with a better than expected food program, not the other way around. The bar service was excellent. I ordered a Sazerac, and they served it with the absinthe on the side so you can add it to taste. That is a small detail, but it shows care and attention, and it made for a great drink. Service overall was friendly and prompt. Even though it is clearly a bar, it is also calm enough during certain hours that you could do some work or have a low key meeting. I would not try that during peak drinking hours. I am not sure of the exact hours, but it seems like more of a late day or evening spot than a lunch stop. It's always special visiting your hometown, and on my latest trip I stumbled across a bar that was new to me and what a find it was. The moment I realized there was nowhere to park in Harrisburg's awesome Midtown area, I knew I was in for a good time. That kind of energy usually means a place is worth the stop. From the old‑school neon sign outside to the throwback décor inside, the whole place felt like a blast from the past, almost like a little slice of Brooklyn tucked into Harrisburg. The crowd was lively but not overwhelming, with plenty of seating and someone ready to greet you right away. I was told that during the week there's usually no wait at all, which is a huge bonus. I asked the bartender to surprise me with a drink, and he delivered a gorgeous gin Frenchie with perfectly balanced foam and flavor. It was honestly one of the highlights of my visit. Yelp suggests I comment on Food, Service, and Ambiance. All of these items are, of course, excellent at the High Dive. But, being a bar, other criteria come into play - the two that come to mind are the skill of the bartenders and the quality of the ingredients they use. Over the course of nearly three hours, the young lady tending bar in the tiki themed upstairs plied her trade making delicious tiki drinks as well as traditional standards such as Manhattans, Negroni's and whiskey sours. The owner of this establishment has also curated one of the best selections of liquors, liqueurs, house made syrups and fresh juices that we've seen on this trip across the US. Their happy hour featured several budget priced cocktails which we thoroughly enjoyed before plowing into the main menu. Their steak frites special of the day proved delicious as well. I'm envious of Harrisburg residents who make this their neighborhood bar, as out of town visitors we'll have to make do once a year as we crisscross the country every Summer. read more

One of the best bars I've ever been to! We sat upstairs, and it was like I was in Hawaii. From the themed drink cups to the decor, this place hit the theme 100%. When we arrived, the upstairs bar wasn't busy, so we were able to get a seat. The drinks on the menu looked delicious, but I was craving an Aperol Sprtiz, and luckily for me, they had one. It was perfect. We really wanted to try a fun, themed drink, so we got the navy grog which came in a shark head cup. I think this is the cutest drinking cup I've ever had at a bar. It was actually a big drink that two people could easily share, which me friend and I did. Service was fast and friendly. read more

Wanted to give a shoutout for how awesome High Dive was for my friend's 40th birthday celebration last night. We were able to reserve part of upstairs and the other half was another birthday party. The bar was still open to other patrons, so it downstairs is busy, see if you can snag a bar chair upstairs. The server was awesome and overall the entire staff crushed it. They even brought out a birthday donut and sang! Atmosphere was dimly lit but with cool tiki vibes upstairs. They do have little lamps if you need to borrow to see the menu. Stopped by on a Friday night while I waited to pick someone up from the airport. All the seats at the bar were filled so I grabbed a high top and ordered a Daiquiri and one of their toasts, specifically the Bahn Mí. Both the drink and toast were balanced. The Bahn Mí had a nice funk that complimented the Jamaican pot still that they used in the drink. The toast also brought acid from the pickled onions which rounded things out. Would go back just as much for the food as the drinks. While the lighting was low you could still sense their unique vibe on Tiki. read more

Tiki bar alert! The upstairs bar 'is a vibe' (as the kids say), and bartender Minh makes a helluva cocktail. Super friendly staff and owner. Fantastic spot as one would expect from the team behind The Millworks and the Watershed Pub. Absolutely recommend, but read on. High Dive is built on the bones of a former nuisance/dive bar, but successfully retained architectural details while seriously improving the space. Service was absolutely first-rate during both of my visits and at both the upstairs and downstairs bars. High Dive specializes in cocktails, so while beer and wine are available the focus is on spirits. Food is available but mainly small plates and burgers. Drink prices are probably a bit on the high side but absolutely worth it for drink quality and atmosphere. High Dive is a tremendous addition to Midtown Harrisburg and well worth a visit read more

I am so glad to have discovered this new spot in Harrisburg. We stopped in for an evening for appetizers and drinks. Be aware, you do have to park in street parking and may have to pay to park depending on what time you go. They have a nice area downstairs and another upstairs with quite the "divey" vibe. The drinks are excellent. I had the blue Hawaiian which was decorated all cute with a tropical twist. My husband got the Saturn, and he liked the drink despite not being a gin fan. The espresso martini was excellent, highly recommend. I got the pickled eggs for an appetizer, which had a bit too much vinegar for me amongst all the ingredients, but were still good overall. My husband got the chicken dumplings, which he said was tasty with the sauce, but was a bit dry. Overall we had a good experience with excellent service. We just wish they had a bit more options on the food menu. read more

The High Dive is a revamp of a bar that's been in the city of Harrisburg for many many years. I must say they did an amazing job, the ambiance is dark and sultry but don't let that deter you from entering Because although the lighting is dark there is plenty light. The bartenders are all welcoming and friendly! However ( Dustin) went above and beyond with attentiveness and even joined me in a little game I like to call "guess who". The bar has many options if you'd like something simple, but they also have some out of norm cocktails. They have tiki drinks and some are even served in large conch shells. The loaded fries are also a must get, hot crispy waffle fries, pulled pork, drizzled with a house made cheese wiz, need I say more? An absolute gem in the heart of the historic district . Staff are super friendly and will assist with selecting the perfect cocktail for you and your party. Large selection to choose from or if you have a favorite cocktail, just ask for it. Nice selection of food appetizers that complement your cocktail selection. The bar atmosphere is alive and buzzing and best of all, no babies or children allowed! Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Yes, cocktail and appetizers are a little on the pricey side, but you're paying for the experience and the great tasting drinks and food. This is a hidden gem in downtown Harrisburg. If you were looking for a nice quiet cocktail bar to slip away with someone, this is your place. The downstairs bar is open and seating as plentiful, but the real star of this location is the second floor. It has a nice Hawaiian/tropical theme of the lights are low. The seats are close and the cocktails are made for romantic evenings. The light dining fair is enough to fill your stomach without leaving you full or bloated. Signature drinks are well worth the price. Overall, this restaurant feels like it should be on a side street in Manhattan or in a back room in Miami. We stopped by High Dive as part of the Fire & Ice drink trail.  There are two floors, the first floor is the main bar and hightops and the second is more of a lounge/tiki bar vibe. Overall it has retro-80s decor and we wondered if it would be too much of a "hipster" atmosphere, but it did not as the clientele was quite varied and welcomed. The employees were friendly and our server was very attentive and professional.  The drink menu has classic cocktails with their own spin on them, which gave some unique twists to Manhattans, Old Fashions, and Negronis. As more of a traditionalist, I tried their version of the Manhattan and it was tasty (different.) One positive is they have "City Wide Specials" on their menu. Traditionally found in bars in Philly, it is a beer (often PBR) and a shot for a small price. At High Dive city wides are $7.00 and you can choose between at Hi-Life or a Tecate to go with your shot.   We tried the truffle fries, which were very good. The french fries on their own were cooked just right and had nice flavor.  I definitely see us returning in the future. read more

Once on the weekend and another time on a weekday. Food was not consistent. The food was prepared and presented drastically different. The weekday dinner wasn't as good as the weekend one. Both times I order the Pepe fries and smash burger. They tasted quite different. Kudos to the weekend food crew for the amazing preparation. The Pepe fries- Eaten on the weekend were balanced in seasonings, sauce and even had a flower garnish. It was simple, and flavorful. Eaten on the weekday was a different flavor, missing depth and had too much ground pepper, drenched in sauce. It looked sloppy/rushed in comparison. The smash burger- On the weekend was juicy, flavorful and not overly saucy, the meat seasoning/cook style was the star. Enjoyed to the last bite. The weekday burger was thicker, a little more dry in the patty and not as flavorful. It was cooked differently and the meat just had a different flavor. It was dripping with sauce and was hard/messy to eat in the dim lighting. Both items seemed Soppy and rushed preparation in comparison to the first meals I tried. It didn't taste bad, it's just not the same and what I was looking forward to! Clearly different cooks by the stark difference in prep. Hopefully they catch on and keep it consistent. Tonight was my second time visiting High Dive since opening night, because some of the most special bartenders in town ended up here and I had a good feeling. Went on a quest for a unique aperitif tonight and half the town knew to look for Tom McGrath. While good things come and go and aren't always available front of house, High Dive (and the bewitching patronage it attracts) delivered in a very special way. So grateful One week open, packed house on a Wednesday, a creative menu with historic and locale-oriented takes on classic cocktails. The bites I've tried so far were great and shareable. I am not vegetarian but I went for the Taiwanese Tofu and my picky partner finished most of it, it was so good! My favorite touch is the charm of vintage accents through the entire experience, from decor to dishware. Next time I'm getting the dumplings! read more

Went to High Dive Saturday to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and it was awesome! I wish I had pics to share of food/drinks but it's slightly dark in the upstairs tiki lounge. Great for ambiance but bad for pics! You can tell they take great care with crafting their unique and delicious cocktails. The snacky food here was really good! The chicken dumplings were a little dry but they were fried and served with a tasty sweet and sour sauce that paired really well with it. The cocktail program there is amazing, and if you sit upstairs Minh and Tom will not only make you anything (on or off menu) they'll walk you through the extensive Rum collection they have on hand.
