It really pains me to write this review, because this was a really good diner. But over the past 6 months things have changed. First the cost has gone up considerably. I mean $3 for a soda I guess is standard, but if your waitress never refills your drink, it's a waste. We got a wrap that cost $15!!!!!!!! No wrap from central PA should be $15!!!!! Let's talk about food quality, and it has gone DOWN A LOT. Ordered a medium burger, and the bun was bled through. French fries for some odd reason are always undercooked. If you order bacon on a sandwich/ burger its always burnt. It's obvious these are just moves to maximize profit while ignoring quality. It pains me but I think I will not be coming back anytime soon, and will most likely not recommend them to anyone. My latest experience: Arrived on a Sunday night to an empty restaurant, maybe two or three guests. Go on to order our meal, two sodas a wrap and turkey roast dinner. Waitress doesn't write it down, I always hate this since this leads to mistakes, plus didn't ask what sides I wanted on either meal, had to stop the girl and say our sides to her. Proceed to wait 20 minutes for out meal. Which is a wrap with cold fries and a Roast Beef dinner, she got it wrong, of course. I tell her of her mistake, she apologizes, and about 15 minutes later with no food I decided to leave, and just get our bill of what we ate. $15.99 for a wrap, $3.99 for each drink (which she never offered to refill when we did see her, so roughly $25 for a bad meal. $15.99 for a wrap is robbery Service was deplorable Food was abysmal Prices were borderline robbery read more

This was the first time I had the opportunity to go to this diner. I was rushing to a meeting at a retreat center and I needed food before I got there. I was pleasantly surprised. And I don't understand why the place was not more crowded, however, it worked for me! Erin was wondering and just the right amount of attentiveness to make you feel like a valued customer. I ordered the philly cheese steak omelet with a waffle. Yes it was more than I could eat but I was not sure what lunch at the meeting was going to be so I figured I'd be safe with my extra leftovers. The omelet was perfect and the waffle was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Five of us stopped in for breakfast. All of us were happy with the quality of the food. Hot, made well, delicious ingredients. Our server was attentive and kept our coffees full. We like to chat after our meal and our server made sure we had enough drinks while we hung out. The restaurant was pleasantly busy but not rushed, so we were relaxed enough to enjoy our time together. The decor is pleasant and bright. This was my first time here and I was very pleased. It's hard to believe that this used to be Applebee's in a previous life. Going to a diner, you have to k ow that you aren't expecting fancy from the onset. You should be expecting reasonably priced, hearty, traditional food...and that is what we got. Our server was very attentive and kept on top of drink refills. My coffee never ran dry for long. I had scrapple, eggs, and home fries. The scrapple was great...could have been a little crisper, but I didn't specify so that's on me. My family members were also pleased with their breakfasts. So, really, what else needs to be said? 1. Good food 2. Reasonable prices 3. Fast, friendly service 4. Clean restaurant All in all, this was a great experience. I just had a wonderful dinner experience at the Hampden Diner. Our server was courteous and professional, the menu had great variety, including all day breakfast, and the food was very comforting. Ambiance is pretty nice for a redone Applebee's. So, kudos to whoever did the painting, etc. The service was very slow-then again there were only two servers. Our server was great, just spread very thin. We gave her a nice tip because she did a very good job despite the challenges. Food was overall meh. Husband liked his Rueben sandwich. I ordered the senior platter with the crab cake. It was $12 for soup or salad, one crab cake, and two sides (I opted for the mashed potatoes and mixes veggies). The crab cake had a lot of shell, was almost flavorless, and was fishy. I had to ask for a wedge of lemon to cut the fishiness and give it some acid. The mashed potatoes were dense and the gravy was gelatinous. The mixed vegetables were overcooked and bitter and bland and mushy. So, the "entrée" portion of my meal was a complete dud. Now, the cup of beef vegetable soup they say they make inhouse . . . it was possibly the best beef vegetable soup I have ever encountered. It was fabulous. I wish I had ordered a bowl of the soup and nothing else. If it wasn't for the beef vegetable soup, I would have given them a 2 star rating. Go for the Rueben and the beef vegetable soup. The coffee tasted like plastic. I rarely have crappy diner coffee . . . this was crappy. I wish there were more nice things to say. I'll repeat, our server was great. read more

I went in with no prior knowledge of this venue other than it used to be an Applebee's. Arrived fairly late (8ish) & noted that there were a number of tables occupied. Server was friendly & efficient - I did ask for a little bit of input ...not usually up on 'diner salmon' but based on her recommendation, I decided to give it a go. Also went off-script and ordered stewed tomatoes as a side...had 2nd thoughts about that, but was trying to go light on carbs. Everything came out fairly quickly & was surprisingly good! Salmon was a tad more done than my optimum, but was much better than expected. so was the side of stewed tomatoes. I did not take advantage of dessert, but based on the case at the front counter, they appeared to be pretty good! Ashley cared and brought our food out very quick even though there were lots of people and it was busy. Stopped in last evening for a quick dinner. I live within walking distance so I was hoping this would be a new regular stop. Unfortunately, It's pretty much the same ole diner food. Ordered their French Onion Soup and Chicken Parm. First the good news, the French Onion was excellent!! Unfortunately, the same kitchen that turned out this delicious soup, fell a little short on the Chicken Parm. Chicken wasn't as crisp as I normally like and the cheese was a bit gooey but it wasn't bad. My biggest gripe was the pasta and sauce that accompanied the chicken - it wasn't good. Garlic Bread was good though. Next time, I'll steer away from the Italian Menu. read more

A sad little place to eat. The hostess was the only relief to the rest of the staff. Our waitress didn't get drink or appetizers orders till after the customer after us was seated. Yet told us 15 minutes prior she would return to get our requests. Never asked how the food was and for refills. Food was suitable, drinks came out half filled. Only comment was I'll get your check. The manager was just as absent when asked " how was everything?" I Replied" It was ah ok." ......he showed no care and nothing to ask else. The Wendy's next door might have been a better choice. Have eaten here many times with my mom. Have tried many different items... not once disappointed. Hearty servings and extremely reasonably priced. My favorites- any of the burgers. The fish sandwich is great, I believe it was haddock. Country fried steak is awesome, home fries are perfect. The best ribeye steak , I thought it was prime rib! And huge! The people that have waited on us have all been very friendly and accommodating. Manager ( owner maybe?) has frequently asked us if everything was good, something that is above and beyond most of the service In the area. Was surprised at the rating on this place, I think it definitely is a good place to enjoy a sit down meal at a fast food price. And the quality of the food is better. Best establishment I've ever been to! They give you free bugs in your food without you even having to ask! Last night I dined in and had the privilege of trying some terrible clam chowder to start and then got this delectable bug salad. When I told my waitress she asked if I wanted a new one (noooo thank you lol) and then just walked away to tell the other servers who then all stared at me (so fun!!) and in the end, I was charged full price for my meal still. Very disappointed in the food..let's start with the ham and bean soup the beans were as hard as stones .the blue cheese burger came out with burnt bacon and crispy ones over top to cover the disgusting burger that tasted like cardboard..we attempted to inform the manager, and he sent our waitress over to handle the situation ...she apologized continously and it was Nothing to do with her. Once management was told of the problem and the fact that I did not want the food at all (not willing to take a chance again) he then attempted to resend the burger out.. what a waste of our lunch time.. There every Sunday for breakfast. This place somehow became our go to place ? Like the wait staff as they now know us and are cool with the weird customizing or our orders. Food is as I have said before on diners - "its a diner serving diner food ". My wife, daughter and I have stopped in a few times for breakfast. First time was great, second was ok, and the third was very bad. Service isn't good and the food is straight diner food (nothing made fresh, just out of a can or bag) and tastes like an old diner. Management needs more oversight of the wait staff which was all teenagers. The last two times in, our server never stopped back until we finished our meal. One person took our order drink order, another person delivered them, another person took our food order and yet another to bring it. When my wife asked for ketchup and hot sauce when our food was delivered and the person that dropped off our food just nodded and walked away. We sat there for 10 minutes for a server to come by to ask if we could have what we asked for and they said they're not our server. REALLY?? We just ate the food with out any condiments and left. The last time in, my wife asked for hot sauce for her eggs and when she went to poor on the Texas Pete, the lid fell off and hot sauce over her entire plate. We asked a server walking by if we could get a new order for my wife, however they said no and we should have checked to make sure the lid was screwed on properly before we used it. It was a brand new bottle that they handed to us, so why didn't they check? The way things are managed over there and the lack of well prepared food makes this place a last resort if needed. read more

Our family grades this restaurant as a three Star Rating and recommends that you maybe visit this restaurant. In full disclosure that rating is based on our only visit to the diner. During that visit the positive experiences were: The atmosphere was good. The staff was very friendly & professional. Finally, the prices were reasonable. The only negative experience was the food, much of which was seemingly not homemade. Instead it appeared to be microwaved or pre-made and warmed up. Specifically, saur kraut on the Reuben was canned food as well as sides like mashed potatoes. In conclusion, we will go back at some point to try it again and for time being stick with out 3 Star rating, and "Maybe" recommendation that you should visit. read more

My first visit was shortly after they opened. The reviews were rough, so we went in without our high hopes. We got wraps and chips and were pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was quiet, but attentive. We went again last night, and everything was good again! Our waiter was a high school student who was very outgoing and attentive. Our food was great. My grandmother raved about the triple decker sandwich that she got, and I thought the cheesesteak was hearty and tasty. My teen/tween girls like to go for breakfast sometimes with friends and enjoy it (it might have something to do with the teenaged male staff, though! haha). I recommend giving them another try if you've written them off now that they've had a chance to work out some kinks. They employ some young kids who are learning at their first job, so have some patience. At least they're working! read more

Visited this diner for breakfast. First observation was that the diner was clean and in good repair. We were seated within a few seconds of entering. We found that the service was excellent. Received our drinks in a timely manner. Our order was taken at that time. Pecan Pancakes were on special, so my wife had those. She said they tasted GREAT. They were almost as big as the plate they were served on. My order was a little more intense as it was not a normal menu item, however, it was cooked to perfection and I had NO COMPLAINTS. The staff was friendly and most attentive to our needs. Our coffee cup and Iced Tea glass did not go empty. This is always a good sign that the server is on top of the situation for her customers. We didn't read any reviews so we could go in without preconceived perceptions. We ordered drinks - 2 iced teas and a chocolate milk for our 5-year old granddaughter - and after a slight mixup (we got soda instead of tea) the chocolate milk was bad. I ordered the grilled marinated chicken breast and my wife ordered the hot turkey sandwich. My chicken breast was a little overcooked but still ok. The hot turkey sandwich came out on I toasted white bread. The gravy was very bland and looked and tasted like it was out of a packet. The turkey itself had no flavor. The side of green beans was not hot. To top it off, all of the toilet paper in the women's restroom was either on top of the dispenser or on the floor. They could at least take the time to put it in the dispensers. 1 star is for Aubrey, who was very nice and did a great job with our visit. read more

The same family that owns this place also owns Starlight Diner in Hanover Pennsylvania. There menu is exactly the same. I been to the Hanover location several times with some big hits and some major misses. Most of the staff here at this location is on the younger side. My meal came out quickly. Before the soup and salad . My meal the hungry fisherman's platter. Half of that was very noticeable to be just about burnt. The crab cake was a little disappointing. But with the price of crab meat now I can understand all the filler in it. Overall it's not a bad value if it was cooked correctly. Service was friendly. I did have ask for utensils . And I got ranch dressing for my salad because I forgot to tell her what dressing I wanted. The issues I have this place are easy fixes. I hope they can work them out. Food was descent, nice atmosphere. Host/owner working the counter lacked personality and did not seem interested in customer service. Would go back but I prefer squeaky rail personally. Best thing was the American cheese omelette, hash brown potatoes and sausage patty was amazing( a tad tangy which I prefer). The mozzarella sticks were not good, the cheese was not gooey and the outside was over fried. Our total bill was 30$ some dollars so not too bad. They need a website to post daily/weekly specials and soups of the day, and also to order carry out. I did see a lot of people ordering the crock of French onion so I would like to try that.
