I'm 60 years...young lol It takes a lot for me to get off my old ass and write a review... OUTSTANDING customer service from the time I called and spoke with Sean, the New Manager, to thanking the mechanic Raul who not only worked on my vehicle with great care, but solved a major problem that I just paid another "professional" shop that until today I USE TO BE a regular at, to misdiagnose my problem to the tune of $120! Additionally, Raul's expertise and quick thinking in his field saved me over $300 and a couple of down days on my car. That's huge to me right now.! Thank You! So for the 2nd time in my life, I taking the time to write a review but first, THANK YOU to ALL the guys at this MIDAS, Sean, Raul, Jo Jo, Eddie, Peter and I hope I didn't miss anyone. You guys are a great team and made me feel like family. I Needed an honest estimate for some work on my 90 Toyota Supra. Not your everyday car. I needed a shop that would make sure "my baby" didn't get scratched, chipped, dinged, and / or otherwise abused on test drives, or in the lot. I needed it TODAY I needed it on a tighter budget now as I just pissed away the money I needed to fix her, at the other "professional" shop I called and s/w Sean, the New Manager. VERY IMPRESSED, with his customer service skills, knowledge of my vehicle, and assured me that I would be well taken care of. On hold, I decided to look at this locations YELP reviews.. whoa, what I was reading, verses experiencing, were two totally different things. I know as a business owner, your people make or break you. You just can't be everywhere, but it looks to me like the owner fixed whatever the problem was. Sean was very respectful and asked if he could take a look at it for me. Going with MY gut feeling, I drove from El Cajon. The shop was clean, customers in the office looked happy, coffee and donuts were there, phones were ringing, and work was getting done. Sean came out with a smile, after helping a few customers ahead of me and promptly "got my baby in" and we went from there. Looks to me like they have the right combination of people and skills at this location to satisfy even the toughest of customers high standards. I would HIGHLY recommend Midas Tire/Auto Repair Shop. I called Discount tires and one other tire shop in the area but they didn't have the tire my AUDI required. This place said "come in and we'll take care of you asap!" I was a bit nervous coming with a deflated tire and having our three yr old. The front desk gentleman (Derrick) was so kind, respectful and helpful. He immediately took care of my car even though they were very busy!!!! We were on our happy way within thirty minutes YAHOOOOOOO!!!!!! A bonus...I was also offered a fresh cup of coffee and handed a brand new coloring book w crayons for our son. Went to Midas for the 17 point Oil Change & Inspection. I was told on phone on better coupon at Midas sites instead of Speed Dee site. I was told after inspection by great Customer Rep. Peter K. that my car had a major Leak. He says for Saftey reasons refilled the missing OIL and did not charge me. "Great Service".... He told me the options, told me the True problems and reffered me to great repair places. I told him for great service he had a life long Customer in me. Great Job Guys.... read more

I've only had one experience with this center, but it was great! Needed an oil change, so had it done for $20. Also, needed to top off transfer case fluid - I had the fluid, but couldn't get it in. They did it for free! During he check-up, they noted that my battery was on its last legs (which I figured, as it was about 5 years old), so I got an Interstate battery that was on sale. I went in for and authorized an oil change (initial charge 29.99). I also authorized them to change the agreed to oil change from standard oil to synthetic (an additional charge of roughly 30.00). I thought it might be good to use the better type of oil. While they were inspecting my car, they noticed that my tires should be rotated, again I agreed to the tire rotation (an additional charge of 12.99). I thought to myself, the economy is bad, they don't have any other clients and there are four service people there, one manager, and one receptionist. I thought to myself "This helps the economy". Right before they were pulling my car out they noticed that my front headlight was not working and began looking up how much it would cost to purchase a bulb for it. I informed them that I planned on replacing it myself and had already purchased a bulb right from CarQuest down the road before I stopped at the Midas, it was in the front seat clearly showing my intent to replace it myself. They told me it would be another 30.00 to replace the bulb, I told William (the manager) "Thats ridiculous I am not paying 30.00 to replace a bulb". Though it made me question how much work it would be, so I walked out to the service area to see how much work it would be and the service technicians had it already done (literally 3 minutes worth of work). They looked in the wheel well, pulled the access panel off, pulled the bulb out and replaced it. I went back inside and proceeded to check out. Patty receptionish/cashier, asked if they had replaced the bulb and I said they had before I got out there but as I had indicated before, I was not paying 30.00 for a bulb replacement. William the manager said "My guys don't work for free. I am sure you don't work for free!". I felt he was rude and disrepectful in his comment especially when I clearly told him I was not paying 30.00 for such little work. I told him that the oil change and tire rotation were both 10 times the amount of work, and were completely justified in their charges. It took the proper equipment, oil, time to do, and the bulb replacement was not justified nor was it authorized. William said he "should" be charging me with the book says of .5 hours instead of what he was charging which was .3 hours. I told him his crew had already done the work before consent was given for the charge. I wanted him to remove the charge for the bulb replacement and I would be fine with the other charges (fine with 60.00 oil change + 12.99 tire rotation, but not ok with 30.00 bulb replacement). He then told Patty to take off the tire rotation (12.99) which I told him again, I was fine with all the charges except the bulb replacement and that I was not paying the 30.00. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he pointed to a picture of Aaron Davis on the wall whom I called. I left a few messages with Aaron and didn't receive a call back. From there, I went to the auto repair store down the road. I was still upset about the incident and spoke to them about it while I was there working with them on a couple chips on my windshield. They informed me that the Bureau of Automotive Repair could be a good avenue for complaint especially considering Midas never got authorization for anything above the initial 29.99 oil change. Apparently a repair shop is required by law to get written authorization for estimates and again for any changes to a work order which they did not. I filed a complaint with the BAR and will never take my two cars to this location again. The service technicians and Patty were great, but the management is awful and needs to be replaced. I felt he completely tried to take advantage of me especially when I felt I was being nice and giving them more business than I initially went in there to give with the additional work. Next step.... disputing the charges with my bank. I am not paying a dime over the 60.00 oil change + 12.99 tire rotation. read more

I had an issue with the Midas at Chula Vista. Unfortunately, they weren't able to resolve my problem since their location close down. I came to Midas at Poway and they were able to solve everything out. Ask for Drew, he's the manager there. He's a very polite guy, that has his heart in the right place. BEWARE if you are bringing your car here for work. Please read this review of my experience. I came to get a new clutch put in on 9/2/10 and was told that my Honda Civic would be ready the same day. It was not, and I received no call that it wouldn't be ready. I found out on 9/3/10 that the delay on 9/2/10 was caused because the "new" clutch that they had put in was actually bad. So, they got another one to put in on 9/3/10. Most of 9/3/10 went by, and I received no call. I called the location after getting off work at 3:45 PM and was told that my car was being test driven and that they wanted to make sure the "sound" that they heard had gone away. I received a message 10-15 min. later that my car was ready to go. I arrived at the store ready to pay and the manager said that "you're ready to go", but that he wanted to walk out with me to my car. He then proceeded to ask "has your shifter always been that far forward?" I told him, "No, that it had not." He pulled my car back into the shop and onto the lift. The two mechanics and store manager---William Wiser at the time (before they shipped him out to another location)---are dumbfounded as to why the shifter is slanted that far forward. They didn't admit that the "shift linkage" part was possibly installed incorrectly. So, the manager said that he would order a new shift linkage part, but that he would have to do it on 9/7/10 because of the Labor Day holiday. So, I took my car "with the badly-angled and incorrectly-installed shift linkage" home. I discovered on 9/4/10 after returning from work that my Honda had been leaking transmission fluid. This was "after" my service. I took a "non-paid" day off from work; 9/7/10 to get the leak looked at. The mechanic discovered a leak in the axel seal and replaced it. He showed me how the seal most likely broke when they had installed the two clutches (the one bad one and the new one). Since my shift linkage part was not ready, I proceeded to drive my Honda home. I was almost home when my car's "malfunction indicator lamp" came on. I returned to Midas, and the mechanic determined that it was an oxygen sensor that needed to be replaced. I was then told by the manager that it would be $167 to get the sensor replaced. The manager said that it had no relation at all to the work that had been done---despite the fact that the oxygen sensor rests right next to the transmission assembly which was taken out to get to the clutch. I reluctantly paid for the new sensor. The new shift linkage arrived on 9/7/10. They put my Honda up on the lift. The mechanic studied the installed shift linkage and didn't immediately see what the problem was. He removed it from my Honda and placed it on the garage floor. The store manager who was there at the time noticed that the shift linkage part HAD BEEN INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN. It was like a scene out of the Three Stooges. They then installed the new one correctly, and I thought that I was home free. Unfortunately, I was wrong. As an aside, the mechanic who did the incorrect installation continues to work at this Midas location. As I drove home, I noticed a sound that sounded like it was a problem with the new clutch. I brought my Honda back to Midas and had two separate mechanics listen to the sound. One of the mechanics told me that it sounded like the clutch was working itself in. He mentioned the sound to the store manager---who then told me (without looking at me) to bring the car back in if the sound didn't get any better. Unfortunately, the sound did not get better, and it only got worse. So, I brought my Honda back to Poway Midas on 2/3/11---as this was the place where the sound had begun. I left my car to get looked at and later received a call from store manager, Daniel Glad who said that the problem was in the transmission and that they did not cause the problem. I went to pick up my Honda from the 2/3/11 visit and specifically asked store manager, Daniel Glad if my clutch had been visually inspected when the transmission diagnosis was made. He said that it had been and that the transmission was the problem. I would find out the following day from the mechanic, who looked at my Honda, that they had only listened to the transmission and that they "HAD NOT VISUALLY INSPECTED MY CLUTCH". I told store manager, Glad that I was going to make my disappointing experience known to corporate. To which he replied, "Do what you've got to do". I had talked to supervisor, Aaron earlier that day expressing my disappointment about the whole experience. At one point he replied, "Well, we're certainly not going to eat it"---referring to the cost of any transmission work that would be needed to make my car whole once more. I can certainly sympathize with the supervisor. I find it hard to swallow that I spent 7 1/2 days of my life on what was supposed to be a simple clutch replacement, and I am left with an ailing transmission and no offer from Midas to fix what was working before my 9/2 visit. read more

This crew is awesome. I knew I had at least a small issue with my brakes. Turned out to be more than I expected. Front right was down to metal (and it never gave the tattletale squeal). Left rear shoes were gooed from a slow leak on the axle seal. Short story - all fixed, new rotors, pads, bearings, axle seals, shoes and drums. They stayed late to finish same day. Very happy with the service and attention to detail. If you need work done, give these folks a shot. Timing, service, and price were all good. read more

Would go to Midas strictly for oil changes because they do a good job. However every time I would go they would always tell me something on my car needed to be fixed. Little do they know I have a close family friend who is a mechanic that I take my car troubles to. Midas told me I needed new rotors and that it was going to be expensive, so I took it to my mechanic to fix it. He was honest and said that there was nothing wrong with my rotors and that they wouldn't need replacing for a long time. After that incident I find it very hard to trust these guys. Would only recommend going there for oil changes but nothing else. Their team does not work hard to satisfy their customers, it is a low paying job that requires commission to make a living. They tell you stuff is wrong with your car to earn a commission, not because it needs fixed read more

We came to Midas in Poway and were helped by Drew. He tried his best to help us and was able fixed our issues. I originally went here because my breaks were squeaking (I have a '98 Camry. Great car) and I had a coupon for new break pads. The first time I went they said my break pads were fine and still had plenty of life on them so my breaks were just cleaned. As I was about to drive out of the shop I heard a noise and sure enough my wheel was not tightened and about to come off. I went back a few days later because the squeaking had returned, they said it was fine and tightened my E-brake. I went back again a couple weeks later due to the persistent squeaking where one of the main mechanics looked at my car he said he sanded them down or something so they wouldn't squeak any more. He was very nice towards me but when I was driving down Poway Rd I heard another noise, I pulled over and saw that a giant tool was still in the bottom of my car. I went back and returned the tool, he was very apologetic. I went back another time, squeak was still there and this most recent time, my FIFTH time I had made an appointment for three, they didn't start working on my car for an hour which was extremely frustrating because I had class. They put on new break pads (finally!) and the person who was working on my car was the same as the first time I went, he said my break pads were practically shredded. How was this not noticed the past four times I went??? Also, the person who was at the front desk that day, he seemed like a manager and he had a normal name it was just spelled strangely, was quite rude to me (I'm an 18 year old girl) and was talking down to me which i didn't appreciate. Anyways, they do good oil changes that are pretty cheap and quick so that's the ONLY reason you should go here and that's the only reason I gave two stars instead of one. read more

Not the best place anymore. Unless you like spending more money than you need to in order get your car fixed. I used to trust the shop but the last couple times I took it in they charged me for work that didn't need to be done or incomplete work. I also asked if they could check my car and they said they didn't have the tools but when I brought it to another mechanic, they popped the hood and figured out the issue in about 5 minutes without any tools (just a flashlight) and didn't charge me the $65 Midas would've taken from me. They may know how to fix cars but if you aren't in love with throwing away money I would go somewhere else. read more

Came by to drop off my vehicle to get an oil change. When i got helped at the front desk, the host told me that one if their technicians had quit so the work load was extra heavy. He counter offer with me making and appointment, so I did. Before my appointment time I received a call to see if i could reschedule my appointment. I figured no harm done I can wait another day. I appreciated the call. The appointment day finally came so when I arrived at the location there was a note on the sign that stated they were going to be closed all day. There was no call,no nothing. I went in for an oil change that I really did not need. But just wanted to do it for a road trip. I had just taken my car to the dealer for an inspection a month earlier. My car is parked in a garage every night. Theses guys told me I had a major oil leak and that my rear differential was leaking but they did not know from where. First i have no oil stains on my garage floor and the dealer just inspected the car bumper to bumper. I asked to see the major leak and it suddenly could not be found. SCAMMERS!!! read more

A Poway Firestone shop quoted me $350 for new front rotors and pads and rear drum breaks needing only cleaning and adjusting ('03 Tacoma). The break inspection was $20 which would be applied to the end cost. Even with an appointment, Firestone said it would take 3 hours. I had noone to pick me up and didn't look forward to sitting in their waiting area for 3 hours (not even a TV to watch and 5 year old magazines). I decided to call Midas of Poway. The owner, Victor, quoted me $275 over the phone and said he could get it done in about 2 hours. Sure enough it took them a little over an hour and a forty five minutes, without an appointment. My experience with Midas of Poway was very satisfactory. I forfeited my $20 brake inspection fee to Firestone, but still saved $30 and over an hours time wait, which was fine with me. Midas of Poway doesn't charge for break inspections, inferior places like Firestone do. read more

I started smelling gasoline off and on in my car and knew I had a problem, took it to the Honda dealership and jiffy Lube, both told me I didn't have a problem...turns out out Drew knew right away I had a leak, in the fuel module and needed to be replaced right away...I am very lucky to be alive!! These guys are the best at what they do. Earlier in the day I had gone to pep boys and they quoted me $1000 for rear brake drums, shoes and wheel cylinders. I called these guys up and Drew called me back with a quote for $450. I brought the truck in at around 230 in the afternoon and at 6 they called me back and told me it was all set. I was blown away by how fast and affordable they did the work for. These guys are amazing at what they do and I will be recommending everyone I know to them. read more

Let me start by saying that I never expected what happened in a chain auto repair service. I was about to get a smog check and had a brake light out. Tried to do it myself but it proved more cumbersome. Anyways, I had the bulbs (which turned out to be wrong), so initially Blaine quoted me $0 for labor. After realizing that I gave him the wrong bulb, he put one on his own and still charged me nothing. It's so nice to occasionally face a random act of kindness. Kudos to Blaine. read more
