Used them for the first time for an oil change and brake inspection. Great service and friendly staff.

Called for an appointment and she got me the date and time I wanted. All I had was a check engine light on so we had no idea of the car's problems. They put the car on a left checked car and came back to explain the problem, timing chain. Explained everything and gave me the price, I agreed to repairs to be made. They also explained my rear shocks were getting bad but didn't need replacement yet. So I said I'd bring the car back. Repairs on car didn't take too long. Everyone at the shop were professional and courtesy. I will be going back and I'll recommend this shop to anyone needing car repairs. Thank you for a great experience. read more

A negative review under zero would be better for this muffler shop. They have scammed couple thousand in repairs most of which were not needed I found out and the ones that were needed they did backyard mechanics like using zip ties instead of clamps. They also forgot to put a gasket in part of the muffler assembly. And don't go there for emissions they purposely have a TV that's half black screen and half green screen so you can't see what the mechanic is doing. This TV looks like it's from the '80s so you have to go out there and stand in the parking lot watching. You really need to keep a hidden camera in your car when you take it to any auto shop but especially this Midas if you're going to go to a place like this after reading a review from somebody who lost a couple Grand going there. Complete con artist the mechanics are okay it's the manager that's the problem. Even if you're going there for an oil change watch out cuz he's going to give you a laundry list of stuff that needs to be done immediately or you're going to get into an accident driving down the street leaving the garage. That's the fear Factor that he uses and if you look up the Midas corporation they have a quota to meet just like the cops have a quota to meet with tickets and arrest and if they don't meet their quota they get fired. Came in asking them to do emissions on my 2000, now that its 2025 i get it you dont have to but the DMV told me i had to in december. Yes its my fault i waited but regardless, they should have ran the test without any "fight" the Woman behind the counter was very sweet but when she rang for the head mechanic, he was the largest a**hole to me ever. They broke my cars oil pan while attempting to give my car an oil change. They then tried to blame it on previous car shops for using "poor product" and said that my car will continue to leak unless I pay $700 for them to fix it. As someone who has worked in the car industry for years, I was able to understand that they were the ones who broke my cars oil pan during the oil change. They later agreed to one of their men breaking it and then left me without a car for two days. Did not offer ANY compensation. Horrible, horrible service, would never recommend. read more

I've always had good luck with Midas. When I moved to Middletown over 15 years ago I was still driving "home" to go to my hometown Midas. For one reason or another I ended up at the Washington Street Midas and I've never looked back. Crystal and Gene are the greatest! Crystal handles the phones and general office duties. She's friendly and helpful. Gene is the man to see when your car starts making noises or you need a quote on tires or any other mechanic oriented request. Gene has a great sense of humor and I have a feeling that he treats his customers like he would treat his own friends and family. He's honest and doesn't make me feel like I know any less, just because I am a women. The prices are average, but they offer coupons via snail mail and their website. read more

This place is AWESOME. I brought my in Jeep because it had overheated badly. I knew I needed a new radiator, catalytic converters, and possibly a new head gasket. I was given a quoted price for all this and scheduled an appointment to get it done. I got a new radiator, hoses, thermostat, new remanufactured head, 3 catalytic converters, 2 O2 sensors, new oil pan, and so many other items that are just too many to list. Anyway, all this work was done at the ORIGINAL QUOTED PRICE, and was finished 3 days ahead of schedule. My Jeep runs very well now. Thank you all at Midas. I'll tell you I have had the worst experience with the manager Gene,Jim, or Jay as they are triplets. So anyways I went for the emissions test. They failed me and the nice man who did the test told me it was a fuse and to change it and come....that's when Gene started screaming at the boy and saying "I'll take care of this customer and shouted at another lady too. I was shocked at his treatment of people. Than this half of a man comes up to olde Shelly telling me I had to bring the car in and they would fix the problem which he said would be $900 FOR A FUSE! I told him off for trying to rip me off. I let him know what that nice boy said to me about the fuse and he went spastic on me. I told him to back up and calm down or I will use the next option. That's when he told me to leave now or he would call the police. I told that sorry broke dog DK. I'm licensed for carry and to do what he going to do. That Gene,Jim or J walked away talking s**t under his breathe. I went to another shop the next day after my nephew put in the new little fuse which cost me 1.25 out the door at ACE hardware. I went to Personal Auto care and it was good folks over there. They even had a working tv to see my car and a big couch all nice n neat. They passed me in ten or so minutes. I would rate a zero if it was there. I had them do a brake job on the front brakes of my SUV . and it cost about 300 bucks when I drove it the brakes make a noise in the system . I took it back and they said nothing is wrong so I had to pay more to have the brakes reserviced elsewhere and MIDAS SUCKS ... I was told they should have fixed the frozen caliper. I'm going back on them for the extra money I spent . they made me feel like I was wrong and I'm even a retired senior on a fixed income .. so I even canceled my card and will never go to them again. I went there to get the price for a battery for my car. Receptionist seemed new.. asked for my name and number?? After 15 minutes, a guy comes out with a clip board, attempting to document my plate number. I asked about the price of the battery, he said we need to check your car, first. I was totally annoyed because I was comparison shopping as I had received 2 completely different prices and wanted to make an informed decision. Seriously, lets face it, I was pretty upset that I had to bring my car in to Midas. I was in Portland picking up some breakfast and my muffler dropped in their parking lot. I was so upset about it, it was not the way I had planned my day to go! My husband came to my rescue, jerry rigged the muffler to last the trip to the repair shop, and I called Midas to see if they could take me in. The woman on the phone was very nice and assured me that my car could be seen that day. When I went inside to drop off my keys I got to meet the woman I had talked to on the phone. What a wonderful person she is, really put a smile on my grouchy face! We were promised a call with an estimate and it came within a reasonable amount of time. The estimate was a competitive price and we went down to look at the car with the mechanic so that he could explain what he would be fixing. The mechanic was really nice and showed my husband several things and gave him a couple options of ways he could fix the problem. By the end of the day my car was fixed and I was able to go out that night like I had planned. I may not like spending large amounts of money to fix my car but I do like having a mechanic be honest with my husband and me and treating us like human beings. read more

Went to get tire repaired knowing it might have to be replaced. Tire was patched. Put tire on vehicle that night, air loss by next morning. Offered benefit of the doubt thinking maybe they didn't inflate tire fully. Filled tire. Tire was flat the next day. The same nail, which was visually inspected and discussed about with employee, was still in tire. Patch is not where discussed. Safety not a priority. Told it was not Midas's fault. My review of this location was mysteriously deleted by Yelp because it "didn't give enough detail". Perhaps the owner complained about a one star review hurting his business? Here is the detail, Yelpers. -Gene quoted me an overinflated price for tires -when I questioned why, he claimed that he had overhead to pay his mechanics to take off 4 tires and put new ones on, a tire warehouse doesn't have overhead -implied I was stupid for asking such a question -said he didn't care whether I bought the tires elsewhere and had him put them on or I bought them from him, he would still charge me(with a snotty voice) -I said fine, I'll take my deposit back and my business down the street to Town Fair Tire if that's the attitude you have towards a customer about to drop $700 in your store -one star review for this place because I have nothing good to say other than I got my money back -having Yelp delete reviews is supposedly against their policy -a real business owner would take this review as a learning experience about how to deal with customers and not treat them as if they were ignorant read more

Been taking our cars to this Midas for close to 20 years. Gene is a rare breed...an honest, ethical mechanic/manager. A few years ago, I had the brakes done on my minivan and they started squealing a few months later. Gene said that most garages and the dealers put basic car brakes on minivans, but due to their weight, they wear out faster. He replaced them with heavy duty brakes at no extra charge! I've had flat tires that need quick replacement and he has always come through. Even if you've had bad experiences at other 'chain' auto service center. Gene is one of the most honest mechanics that I've ever dealt with and will never try to push any unnecessary services. The girls at the reception desk are also very nice and helpful so calling or going in is always a pleasure. These guys are honest and do good work. They have the best deal in town on oil changes. I wanted to use them more, but sometimes they refuse to do a certain job (e.g. when my car was leaking gas). I hope to use them more in the future. My female co-workers love them because they don't feel like they're being ripped off or condescended to. It is difficult to avoid all issues with cars, even when paying good money for good service. At this Midas location I recently had an issue with service that had been provided nearly a year ago. I felt I should not have had this issue. I dealt with Jeff (the owner). He heard my. Interns, asked some questions, analyzed the parts and agreed the problem should not have occurred. He then made sure I was satisfied with his handling of the issue. Problems happen, how they are dealt with makes a big difference. This is one of those notorious places that try to take advantage of women and people who might not know much about cars in order to get money out of them for unnecessary repairs. I hope this review saves at least one person from going here and dumping a bunch of money unnecessarily. I don't trust Midas and will never go there again. I've been there twice, and both times they tried to scam me. I took my wife's car there for an oil change, and they said she needed a new air filter when she had JUST gotten one. Giving them the benefit of the doubt and hoping that they wouldn't so blatantly lie and cheat me, I gave them another shot. When I took my car in for an oil change, the guy tried to tell me that I needed a new air filter, battery, and wipers. I knew something was fishy because I had just gotten new wipers a couple of weeks prior. When I went to pick up my car, he brought "my" air filter out to me to show me how filthy it was. It may or may not have been from my car. When I explained to him that it's frustrating to go to auto shops and never know if you're being cheated, and how I had experienced this the last time I went to Midas, he looked me in the eyes and said, "You don't have to worry about that here". Then why is my battery running just fine (in extremely low temperatures) and my wipers are in mint condition (not "shredded" like it says on my receipt)? Being scammed twice shows that it's not just an isolated case or a mistake of a rookie (as the second guy tried to tell me), but a part of their business model and culture of their shop. read more

I went in for an emissions test and received a courtesy check. They told me that I needed to replace my whole rear exhaust system because the bolts were missing and a huge gap was between the muffler and tale pipe and the muffler needed to be replaced because it's too rusted and estimated it above $800. The manager was extremely nice to me and pointed out all of these problems to me, but I don't know a thing about cars and took his word as truth. I then went home and asked a family friend who has worked on cars his whole life and said that no replacement was needed and that the rust was normal level for a 10 year car, the bolts are still there and the gap was barely letting any exhaust out and that all we should do is put some special caulking in the hole and it will last me another couple years. I was thoroughly upset when I first heard the estimate because I am a college student with no money, and then I was furious after hearing that the whole process will only cost me $4 for the caulking. I will never suggest Midas Mufflers to anyone, especially young women who they think they can rip off. I figured they would rip me off by charging me $50 for a $20 procedure, but I didn't even need to have anything done on my car. They are all about the money. read more
