I called for a quick and minor auto care and he had me in and out in a jiffy. First time there, he was very pleasant and seems to really know what he's talking about. I will be back and I'm happy to have found a good and reliable and HONEST mechanic. **** Been back several times and he is now my oil change and go-to mechanic. Honest and reliable. Keith is straightforward and puts providing a reliable service with integrity above generating profits. I brought my car to another shop in town just for emissions testing and was faced with an urgent recommendation of over $2,000 in repairs before driving it away. I felt that someone else could do the recommended repairs at a more reasonable price, so I sought out Keith for an estimate. Going in to Keith's, I had assumed my car needed these extensive repairs and asked him for his quote on those repairs - but Keith called back hours later with the surprisingly honest news that none of those were necessary and I was probably being taken advantage of. Here I was, openly ready to hand him $1,000+ with no questions asked, and he ended up giving me a bill for only $150 after fixing one simple component. This isn't an exception for Keiths Auto, it's his business model. Later that year the same car broke down, and I had it towed in to Keith. He completed an extensive service on it even around his vacation time, and what looked like one single problem going in turned out to be many, many other problems. As the cost of repairs started to match the cars value, instead of taking money from our pockets, Keith worked with us to devalue his own labor and absorb some costs to keep the repairs feasible. I keep bringing back my old Volvo, every time thinking I will have to buy a new car (my Volvo has a special ability to make terrifying noises whenever it breaks down), and Keith invariably brings it back to life. He also was able to help my partner with his 1998 Toyota Corolla, whose exhaust gave up. Some wielding later, the car was running smoothly again. I moved to Middletown, CT in 2012, and looked for a local mechanic that would be honest, dependable, available and helpful. In checking Yelp! Reviews, the obvious AAA Auto Service provider in Middletown was rated "Poor" (although I have had good experiences with battery replacement on-site and AAA Service calls) and big-name garages were shady. Reviews for Keith and his Team were unanimously "Excellent" with only positive comments and feedback from all. As a multi-year (5+) Customer - I can vouch for every good review and positive item on the Yelp! Page. I have brought my cars to Keith for regular oil service and more complex mechanical problems that could have been "Big Ticket" or for a short-term fix to hold me over until the next car purchase. He is invariably up-front, will quote options and speaks to Customers professionally - with no fake work or recommended service that's unwarranted or wholly unnecessary. On a 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid with a loud muffler noise, I stopped at a Washington Avenue (Route-66) Store on an early Saturday (when Keith was closed for vacation) and got an estimate for $800-$1,000 on work that seemed far-fetched and unwarranted. I had the shop drop the car off the lift and waited for Keith to get back to handle the issue - for $300-or so dollars; with a simple patch and a much-needed brace. Sound was gone, $500-was still mine and the car runs perfectly (to this day). The only negative (if it could be one) is that the appointments fill-up fast and that scheduling may be a week or two out (depending on the time of year and demand) - but the wait is well-worth some planning and patience, since the service is exceptional, the value is well-worth the price and the amount of integrity, honesty and trust can't be matched by anyone other than "Family" or your own "Home Town" Mechanic (and this isn't my hometown). Great guys on the Team, invariably professional, courteous, thoughtful, polite, efficient and effective - with "what's needed, when it's needed" approaches and honest-upfront conversations on options to solve problems and make card "Go!" versus upselling and gimmickry. Mechanics sometimes have a bad reputation for making things complicated and adding unneeded charges - but this is NOT the place for that type of sketchiness and always gets my immediate recommendation when someone asks, "Do you know a good Mechanic?" Keith has been my mechanic for over 20 years. He is extremely knowledgeable and honest. Unfortunately, in my experience, It is rare indeed to be able to trust an auto mechanic. In most cases, we are completely at their mercy, especially with the complexity of today's cars. Keith has always been fair and honest in his treatment of me and mine, and very, very knowledgeable. As an example, just recently, Keith and his fellow mechanic, Mark, checked out two cars that I had just bought from a local dealership. They found important defects which were all subsequently fixed by the dealership, at no cost to me. Keith had no intention of charging me for this service for both cars. I had to insist that he charge me and he did so, a very small amount. I have sent a number of my friends and acquaintances to Keith for auto repairs. I always say the same thing to them. Keith isn't cheap (he deserves to make a good living like all of us), but he is honest and very, very good (knowledgeable) in auto mechanics. To my knowledge, everyone of the people that I referred to Keith continue to use him and are very satisfied with his service- work. Oh, Keith... You missed yet another opportunity to overcharge me. Short story: my car refused to start one Sunday evening. A friend jumped it for me and got it back to my house, and we theorized (we don't know much about this stuff) that it was probably the alternator, since the battery is pretty new. I called Keith in the morning and he had me describe the sound the car was making. He said, "Do not let anyone sell you an alternator; that's your battery, and it should still be under warranty." An INCREDIBLE MECHANIC! Honest, genuine, helpful and very knowledgeable! I just moved to CT from the west coast and had no idea where to take my Scion TC with about 130k miles on it other than a Toyota Dealership. Didn't want to pay $2,000 for simple repairs like I'd done before when dealing with Toyota so I searched and found Keith's... Quite simply, even taking the vehicle to his place only twice, I've already saved hundreds of dollars. The first repair was textbook repair of some struts and Keith walked me through the process, the costs and was great throughout. Pricing was more than fair and repairs done well. The second time I went to him is what really sold me... I was having some rattling which I was attributing to either a bearing, sway-bar, axle or any number of other expensive repairs. Dropped the vehicle off and within 5 minutes Keith was already out test driving to diagnose (I was still waiting for my ride). Called me back in just a few hours and let me know that it was just an issue of having some things tightened up, but everything was just fine with the car and he fixed it free of charge. He had an easy opportunity to put the screws to me and at the very least create some fabricated "Suspension System Maintenance" charge and fling a $300 bill my way (I remember that because I had something very similar happen at a Toyota dealership once). He did not, because he's an honest, hardworking mechanic. He's just gained another customer for life based on his trustworthiness. I cannot say enough good things about Keith & co. Had my car (a '96 Volvo 850) towed in with some kind of major transmission malfunction (sluggish acceleration, high RPM, scary flashing transmission light on). Keith found the problem (leaking transmission axle seal), fixed it, and the car was ready to go in 2 days. 2 weeks later, the problem came back--turns out the new seal didn't quite fit. This time around, Keith ordered the part from Volvo, installed it within several hours of getting it in, and didn't charge me anything. So far so good with the car, and Keith remains the most honest mechanic I've ever come across. read more

My trusty mechanic retired recently and I had two big jobs (on an old car) done at another place in Middletown following breakdowns. The second time the other Middletown shop completely misdiagnosed a simple problem (it was the starter, not the battery or alternator) and then, when the car died on me because of the misdiagnosis, failed to return my calls. I called Keith's, on the recommendation of a colleague (backed by Yelpers), and dropped my car off at noon. I was told it would take a day to fit in the schedule. The next day at about noon I had a message on my cell. I thought it would be the call asking for more time and reviewing a laundry list of "fixes" coming to $600 (or a $1000 or more). Instead, they'd detected the problem (the starter), solved it, and the car was ready to go. No laundry lists, no stalling, no poor communication (I didn't have to chase them), no inflated costs. They offered to pick me up within 15 minutes of a call to them (I live about 2 miles away) and they did so the next morning when I could make time. When I paid I asked if they'd seen anything else worrisome and it was clear they'd had a quick look to ensure nothing major was overlooked--they didn't see anything that would affect performance or safety. It's a relief to have found, again, an auto shop that I can rely on to be competent, fair, communicative, and helpful. Let's hope that others in the car world follow their example. I've also heard great things about Marty's in Middletown--but, for now, I'm sticking with Keith's. read more
