I have been doing business with this company for a few years now with my Jeep Grand Cherokee. A few weeks ago, my Jeep engine light started to flash on my way back from my son's basketball game. It got the point where my gas pedal was on the floor and I couldn't accelerate at all. I called Computer Tune and Lube and Dan, the owner, told me to drive it straight to their shop. So I did, and he said he'll have his team take a look and give me a call. Gave me a loaner (2010 Toyota corolla, that sounded worse than my Jeep). Told me not to drive it on Monday (day of the blizzard). With a quarter tank of gas and the way it sounded I just drove it home. Within a few hours I got a call from Dan. He explained that "fuel started to leak on my exhaust tank, which caused my catallactic converter, radiator, temp gauge, etc to not work properly and he'll have his guy start tonight if I give the okay. He told me it would be around $3,800 plus tax for everything. I felt EXTREMELY pressured. I told him to let me talk to my husband and I'll give you a call back. He said, "I'm leaving for the day, and so will my guy unless you give me the okay to go ahead. Otherwise, I can't get to working on your car for another week or so." So I did give the go ahead since I needed my Jeep fixed soon with 6 kids and activities and sports going on next week. Fast forward to last week, I picked up my car on Wednesday and paid in full the $4,267.28. The invoice was 2 pages long! Dan even said " you got a lot of life left in that Jeep. My brother pays over $1,300 for his new jeep, so no need to get a new car anytime soon" Well, yeah especially since I just put $4,000 into it. On Saturday, I drove my jeep on the highway it started to flash with the engine light again. Then my temperature gauge went all the way up to "H." And then it went right back down to "C." Thought it was a fluke so drove it home. On my street, I could barely accelerate and it started to smoke. After getting a second opinion, from another mechanic, they told me this is the shops fault. He said "you just paid to have your radiator replaced which is what cools your engine and prevents it from overheating. See if they can take a look at it free of charge since they caused it." On Monday, I went in person to talk to Dan and see if he could resolve this. He told me that it's my "fault I drove it. I would have to bring it back in the shop and he'd look at it and if it's on them, they would fix it otherwise I would pay for the tow and all other costs associated with it." I told him my jeep never overheated in the past and I just got my radiator fixed from your team and now my engine overheats. He says "it's an old car and has a lot of issues." I felt scammed and didn't trust him after that. I contacted the BBB and decided to write this review to warn others, especially women. His shop caused my jeep to overheat and now after $4,000+ of repairs I can't even drive it. It's NEVER overheated before and I just paid for all those parts to be replaced and then my car overheats and he won't even look at it free of charge? Women, moms, beware, this guy takes FULL ADVANTAGE. read more

I found this location through Groupon. It was such a good deal for a full synthetic oil change that I decided to give them but I'd pay regular price. The owner was so kind and did a full inspection on my vehicle. He explained what he thought I should repair at a future date and gave me an estimate. While waiting I also spoke to a gentleman who has been bringing his car for years despite the dealer giving him a service package. I will come back. read more

Brought my car in for a check engine light, code P0337 (crankshaft position sensor). They quoted me $127 for the part. I bought the same part at AutoZone for a fraction of that. Before the repair, the mechanic made a comment that it's on me "if it doesn't start." That comment makes a lot more sense now. Days later the check engine light came back with code P0338 (still the crankshaft sensor). When I returned, the mechanic was extremely condescending, raised his voice, and blamed their bad work on the warranty I'd declined on their significantly overpriced part. The second owner then called offering to "diagnose" the problem they should have diagnosed the first time for ANOTHER $140. They replaced a part without finding the root cause, and that warning before the repair suggests they had their excuse ready before they even started. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! Save yourself the energy and money. I have filed a dispute with my bank and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

I usually call a week or two out for an appointment. Oil changes/Emissions go smoothly. Dan is at the front when you enter; very helpful with questions and concerns. Prices are comparable. Service requested has not been up sold and I appreciate that. read more

Went here for an oil change. They over filled my tank then Dan the manager claimed I was lying and said he wouldn't give me a refund bc I was being a "dick" for complaining about it. Go to Valvoline down the street for oil changes at the very least. A loaner car is NOT worth having your engine blown. read more

Went here for CT emissions test and bought a $80 Groupon for a tire rotation and oil change. 2004 Toyota Corolla passed the emissions test but Dan said the frame was too rusted to put on the lift. Said he could do it next week in the far bay. Thanked him, and rescheduled for next week. Tums out the Groupon was marked redeemed at that point. Today Dan said that he could only do the oil change in the far bay and not the tire rotation, he would redeem me $8. I said I would cancel Groupon instead. Oops, turns out the Groupon has already been redeemed and now I am in Groupon hell trying to get a refund. read more

Had such a great experience at Computer Tune & Lube today. My stepson's car has been leaking various fluids all over the drIveway for months. I've told him to bring it in to get checked out, but he never did. So when he went out of town for a few days, I took the opportunity to bring his car in to Computer Tune & Lube. I went in without an appointment on Saturday morning, but they took us in right away. The technician did a thorough review of the car and then called us in to review the issues and show us everything while the car was on the lift. The car needed a lot of work - new radiator, coolant and transmission fluid lines, new muffler, front and rear brake pads and rotors, and 4 new tires. He took the time to explain everything and answer all of our questions. Then he handed us off to the manager to go over pricing. It's an older Subaru with almost 250k miles on it, so we didn't really want to dump a lot of money into it. Everyone was great and really honest about the value of completing repairs on such an old car. The manager worked with us on pricing and cut it as low as he could, which was very much appreciated. The prices were very reasonable given the amount of work needed. He even threw in an oil change for free! They were able to do all the work same day, and got us back on the road in a much safer car! As we paid we also saw that they warranty their work for 12 months or 12,000 miles, which is better than most other repair shops. They also do emissions testing, someone came in while we were waiting for diagnosis and they got him in and out very quickly. They are located in a busy area with lots of stores or restaurants to visit while you wait for your car. They also said that they provide loaner cars for any service over 3 hours. Have been in twice so far, my first times going. Expecting to have to make appointments, I was pleasantly surprised that I could have my car looked at (one day was emissions, today was for a concerning noise I thought meant my oil was low) right then. I was not expecting that at all. Even though I was asked to be patient while waiting for emissions testing, it was done in less than ten minutes. I was given an excellent quote on tires which I desperately need and will be back for. Today 8/16/23, I stopped in rather late due to my concern over the engine noise and I'm definitely overdue for oil and a change! Which I scheduled this week. Thankfully he took the time to clean things up a bit, as it seems I was close to irreparable damage to my engine. He also noticed my need for tires as well and suggested I get a good quote which I have done. I just feel that both times I've been in, it's more about the customer and the safety of the vehicle than the money that's being made. That's not been my experience anywhere else I've gone for service, especially at the dealership. I felt comfortable, and that each person I've worked with, I felt listened to, and not dismissed, and their generosity is beyond compare. I have found my new place to go and to refer others. Driving from RI to NY my car suddenly overheated on 9 north, bells going off, symbols lighting up, smells and sounds that were not good. I was LUCKY to be directed to Computer Tune & Lube who had me back on the road within a few hours. Not all the parts were available to fix my almost blown engine but with creativity, adhesive , tape and experience they were able to get me safely home. It would have been very easy to sell me things I did not need, to exaggerate or invent the damage. They did not. They were were remarkably conservative and I watched the capable and kind man on the desk do this consistently over the hours it took to repair my car. I was informed every step of the way of what was going on, the different directions the repair might go in and what they would do to mitigate it. I know this place from Gropon, I made an appointment and confirmed if they would honor the gropon, they replied to me "Yes". When I arrived, they have told me not to buy from Gropon, they will match the price to me. Soon, they told me they matched the price and I have to pay more fee for the sales tax, which is MORE than what we have agreed on my already-purchase Gropon. I insisted just follow the initial agreement, they refused to honor it. The manager told me they won't honor the Gropon unless to make another appointment. This is a big scammer, lied on the phone and fool customer to pay MORE money!!!! not Trustworthy, NO RECOMMEND. read more

I went in last week to do my emissions testing. My car failed initially but they were able to identify the exact issue within the 10 minutes I waited. Dan explained to me step by step what was wrong with my car and how to fix it. Ultimately I needed to replace my O2 sensor and a manifold converter assembly. I knew about this problem long before my emissions test...I went to other places before Computer Tune & Lube and their quote was HUNDREDS of more dollars than what Dan suggested. Dan Glyck at Computer T and L reviewed my car's problems and told me that although he could repair the problem, it was best that I bring it to the dealer as he had ascertained that the repair and parts were both covered by my dealer warranty. He was correct and his advice saved me hundreds of dollars. That kind of honesty should be rewarded. I called ahead to make an emissions appointment (not really sure if it's necessary to do midday Thursday, but wanted to be sure). The staff was very friendly and flexible with time on the phone. When I arrived, parking was clearly marked for emissions, and I walked right in while someone else was checking out of an emissions test, no wait at all. They have a sign in the waiting room guaranteeing 15 mins or less for an emissions test and I was in and out. Process was simple and quick. Great location if you need work that'll take a bit longer, plenty of places within walking distance. read more

HOWEVER, the man at the desk (Dan) was not wearing a mask, the chairs in the waiting room were not spread out, and there was no plexiglass or anything in between the customer and the desk staff (which is normally understandable, but at least wear a mask!). I was shocked to see him standing there behind the desk above a sign that said "we're taking the COVID-19 situation seriously". I'm incredibly thankful that I brought my car to computer tune & lube. I have been a loyal customer to another well-known mechanic in Middletown for the past several years. Recently, my car started having some weird engine issues and was bucking on the highway, stalling, and the RPMs would randomly drop to 0. Shortly after experiencing these issues my rear brake caliper seized and I brought my car into the other shop in Middletown (which I will not name because despite one bad experience I have had great ones). The day I brought it in the mechanic who looks at engine issues was out due to a family emergency and I was told he wouldn't be back until the following week. They did take a look at my brakes and also told me that I was in need of 4 new tires. They quoted me $2000 for the brakes and tires alone and that was even before my engine issue was evaluated and estimated. I waited a week to make a decision until my engine could be looked at. When I called the following week I was told that even though the mechanic had returned he would t be able to look at my car until the following week (wtf. Don't you have a first come first serve policy???). Anyway, I took a gamble and tried CT&L and I'm so happy I did. Dan was INCREDIBLE. I called and explained the situation and he was very matter-of-fact in his explanation of what could possibly be wrong with my vehicle. He squeezed me in that day and followed up with me a few hours later with a possible diagnosis. Because my brakes were seized so badly, he couldn't drive my car long enough to recreate the problem but explained the most inexpensive possible fix. He fixed my rear brakes and my crank shaft sensor--he even gave me a lower price than what he originally quoted because my crank shaft was easier to replace than he originally anticipated. It cost me roughly $1800 when the other mechanic made it seem like my car should simply be junked. Thank you CT&L and Dan! You have earned a loyal customer. read more

Went to another local mechanic who actually looked under the hood and discovered squirrels had chewed through wires. Repairs cost $295. Women, don't go here. You know what I mean. read more

Came in on a Thursday with an electrical issue with my Jeep. Was kinda stuck because the Jeep wasn't going anywhere else without being toad. On Friday they did a full diagnostic on it and determined it was the computer. They had to order the part and get it programmed. I was looking at 3 days no car. Dan the owner gave me a loaner car. Recently moved to Middletown and needed a good, reliable mechanic. Found these guys and they definitely fit the bill. I've had them do big and small jobs on 2 vehicles. Their prices are quite competitive, they are very knowledgeable, and unlike too many businesses I've dealt with lately, they treat their customers as if they truly value them. They are always pleasant and will explain upfront the issue that needs fixing and the approximate cost. I was provided with pictures of defective parts on the vehicle, and recommendations for any other items they find that need repairing before they get worse (ie-more expensive to fix). They also complete jobs in a timely fashion and let me know when they are done. An honest mechanic is often very hard to find, but these guys will be my go-to shop going forward. Being from out of town (NJ), travelling to our Hartford office, and having my electrical go haywire, I was lucky to stumble on this place. The GM, Daniel, was upfront, reasonable and explained that critters had eaten my wiring... so for a battery/alternator and wires, the overall price was fair, the work was done in the day, a loaner car was offered and used. Dan even stayed 1/2 hour after closing to accomodate my travelling back from my Hartford office. While I never like to spend money, this was value given and received, thus the high rating. read more

Went in for a simple oil change. Asked them to check the air filter for mice. Odd odor in truck. Told the filter's clean. Mice are in the dash. For $350+++ they would tear the dash apart and clean out the rodents. Went home and pulled the air filter. Took about a foot long mouse nest out of it. Shame on you. Trying to upcharge an elderly woman. They were betting I'd never look for myself. Would have done it myself sooner, but rarely drive the truck in winter. read more

Great experience here with Dan and Marc. They really made a tough situation much better. My subaru lost 3rd and 4th gear for some reason. They were the only shop in the area willing to actually look at the transmission rather than ONLY swap it or decline completely. They hooked up the price on a used transmission after finding some snapped linkage. They even showed me the wrecked transmission pieces upon pick up. To top it off they helped me transfer my deposit to protect my credit while I am also currently buying a home. The car was ready in 2 days. Phenomenal communication and prompt service. This is THE BEST place to get oil changes and any other service your car requires. I had my BMW serviced here and they did my oil change and multi-point inspection flawlessly. I was in immediately and out within 30 minutes! They specially ordered my BMW filter in advance and even reset the BMW factory service notification. Other Non-Dealer Oil change companies have absolutely no idea how to do it and I end up having to manually do it myself from YouTube Tutorials. The general manager Dan is amazing and made sure every detail of my BMW service was professionally and efficiently handled. I drive 30 minutes from South Windsor to get service here because I know that there is NOBODY better than Computer Tune & Lube. I highly recommend them to everyone that I know!
