I have taken 3 different vehicles here that I have owned over the years have had tires done on all…read more3 of them as well as a variety of other work from sway bar links, Emission testing, breaks on all wheels and alignments, oil changes and more. I have never had to take a vehicle back for a problem with any work they have done for me. They even found a problem the dealership missed on a noise diagnoses that I was complaining about and after the repair was done no more noises. I recommend this shop as at least a place to get a first or a second opinion they have never suggested more than was needed and handled all work and repairs in a reasonable amount of time for a good price. Both a friendly and a busy shop which is a good sign that they are doing something right. P.S. This is a write up from a former A.S.E. certified Tech that has done their job as mechanic and manager and can check their work over even though I can no longer do the work and I recommend this shop.

We managed to limp the car home. Having been to Skytop a number of years back and happy with the service and pricing I decided to go back there even having been told by others not to and that they're very shady over there. I should have listened. We get home and I schedule an appointment for their earliest time slot which was about 5 days away. I explain what the issue was to the girl on the phone and she said basically no problem and would I need a tow? I thought I would so I said yes. Asked about the price and she gave me a tow price of $150 for only a couple miles town in town. We decided against it the day of the schedule. We get the car there. Drop it off and talk to another girl. Maybe the same one? She takes some more info and I talk about the tranny again. She takes down some notes. I then ask if they can take a look at the tire. One tire has a slow leak. She said well we can look at it but they don't do tire repair and to take it to another shop. Um... what? So whatever. We leave and she advised if they don't get to it today it will be the first one tomorrow morning. Ok fine. The next morning I receive a text message with a laughable inspection report. Regarding the transmission... "Possible transmission work needed - Take to a transmission shop." So naturally I call and question this. The girl on the phone said she can't help and quickly transferred me to the service department where another girl answered. I asked her to explain and she advised that their transmission guy left about a year ago and they no longer work on transmissions. UM SO WHY DID YOU TAKE THE CAR AND WASTE MY TIME?! Obviously at this point I'm prepping to go get the car and take it somewhere else. In the process of making those plans I get a text message from someone blaming me and telling me I was told on the initial call that they couldn't promise they could work on it but that they may have someone that could do the job.... yeah no thank you. Something's not quite right and since I was told they don't do transmission work I can't trust this. Who's this person that they may or may not know that may or may not be available for service? How is that anyway to treat a customer???? Naturally at this point I'm frustrated. So I declined and went and picked up the car. Never again with Skytop! I wouldn't have my lawnmower serviced there.

I had the car towed to Civali's. Put my key in their night slot. I showed up at 7:50a to discuss what happen in hopes they would be able to fix it. I know they open at 8a but was blown away that they were already open and the door was unlocked for clients to come in. As a business owner myself I hate walking up to a business where they unlock the doors precisely at the hour indicated. I was Impressed by that alone... a great first impression!!! Spoke to front end person discussed what happened while I was driving. Long story short: they were able to fix it that day. Great communicators throughout the process.. very fair and reasonable prices... and GREAT customer service!!! If I ever have another car issue I'd definitely take it back... So I just got a phone call from a very highly regarded Bmw mechanic in West Hartford, who is known for as honesty. He told me my brakes were 75% fine a little wire on the rotors on the front and a little less in the back, but nothing I had to address right away. Whereas Portland automotive told me I needed a complete thermostat sensor yada yada when they check the codes, this Mechanic and West Hartford said he would do less and then see what happens (instead of trying to gauge me.) what convinced me to get another opinion was reading the reviews on Portland automotive, which seems sketchy, especially by men who probably it appears to me no more about cars versus the women to think they're very nice. Well, I'm a woman, but I go with my gut instinct, and in this case, it told me to go elsewhere.
